2wire Modem Dropping Internet Randomly?
Jun 21, 2011I'm using a 2wire 2701 HG-B (AT&T). Throughout the day (sometimes even 5minutes apart) the DSL light will turn red, the internet will turn off green and 20-40 seconds later they'll both become green again. It's irritating because it sometimes happens so frequently and causes me to close EVERYTHING I have opened in my browser. If I'm on xbox or an online game, it disconnects completely (even if the light is only red for 15 seconds)I have data error stats .tl;dr: 2wire modem giving me problems. DSL light turns red randomly for 20-40 seconds, sometimes up to twice in 5 minutes.

Mar 1, 2013I purchaseda trendnet 692 GR router because I understood that I would be able to stream from let's say my computer to my TV that is up the stairs. Here is the problem. I did get the router to use my existing 2Wire 2701HG modem.Yes I can connect my Samsung 6100 to the wireless 2Wire but I thought the trendnet setup would work the best.I and Trendnet support set up my router and media bridge and the two do work but my tv won't work through the MB. I have connected to the network but the next part of the connection (the internet) won't connect. I have tried different IP settings that I thought would connect but nothing so far has worked.Also I have taken a 50' ethernet cablefrom the trendnet router to the tv and I do get a connection.I have also taken a laptop through the media bridge and connected to the trendnet router.The customer service at trendnet can't take this to the next level(which is a$40 one session professional service)

In my absence sbc (AT&T) changed the pass word of the 2wire Modem. The 2wire has stoped communication with the Cisco Wireless N Routers. I connected am Ethernet wire to one of the ports of the 2wire, and connected it to the 2nd Cisco Wireless N Router. The signal gets to the 2nd Cisco Router. However, when I attempt to access the Internet on the CPU connected to the 2 Cisco Router, I get an error Message saying that there is a problem with the Modem and/or Router. On the available Networks selection screen I can see the connections that I want. The selection info shows connected. But when I try to connect, the I can't.

May 13, 2011I'm using a 2wire 2701HG-B wireless router/dsl modem combo. My computer is a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. The router/modem has been reliable for the last 2 years.. hardly ever needing a reset, reboot, or anything. Then all of a sudden my wifi network didn't show up anymore. I did a reboot, nothing. Kind of weird so I got on the phone with AT&T and they walked me through some simple stuff and they determined it's either the router or my computer. Well I know it's not the computer, I can use the mobile hotspot on my android phone and it gets on just fine.All of the lights on the router are green, AT&T showed that all the tests show the internet connection is working. Since the router is not sending out a wifi signal anymore, I had to plug the ethernet cable in. The system recognizes a connection but says it isn't connected because it is a "public" connection. Additionally, if I go to network connections with the cable plugged in, I can see my DirecTV DVR is showing on the network (because it is connected to the router via ethernet too). So it isn't broadcasting wifi, I can see my DVR over the network in windows, but I can't get the IP renewed.

When I try to do an ipconfig /renew, it says this:Windows IP Configuration An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The operation was canceled by the user.An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system cannot find the file specified.The AT&T rep said I may need a new modem and router. It seems weird because it worked fine one night, then the next night all of a sudden it didn't work.

Jan 31, 2012My laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

Sep 8, 2012I am with Virgin media and have a home lab (2611 routers, 3550 switches, 2950s etc) which i usually just use for testing things on and practicing.
Now I tried to connect it to the internet and got some weird things happening.
I got NAT and DHCP client all setup correctly on the router (or so I think!) along with DNS settings but I still can't get Internet access.
My network is all setup right so that through using OSPF the router is the gateway (0.0.0.0 route) for all devices. Doing a traceroute confirms this.
Yet I never get any further than the router? I see IP nat translations ticking up as I send more requests but never get a webpage or a reply from any of the machines in my network.
HOWEVER... The router itself does get some replies from Google.co.uk and bbc.co.uk but doesn't seem to want to give anything else on the "inside" a response?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Internet Dropping With 861 Router And DPC3010 Cable Modem
Oct 1, 2012I am having an issue with my network that has me perplexed. I have a DPC3010 cable modem (Charter internet). I previously had it connected to a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT installed and that was working OK except that I had to reboot it 2-3 times per week. I replaced it with a Cisco 861 (non-wireless) router and it worked OK for a few hours then it started dropping the internet connection (it goes up and down constantly). If I switch back to the Linksys everything works fine again. I am using the same cables in either case so I know it's not a cabling issue. I upgraded the firmware to c860-universalk9-mz.151-4.M3.bin, but it made no difference. I was starting to suspect a problem with the physical ports on the router, but I decided to try connecting the 861 behind the Linksys and turns out it works fine in that setup.
So to recap...
If I connect the 861 directly to the modem my internet connection bounces up and down
If I connect the Linksys directly to the modem my internet connection is fine
If I connect the Linksys directly to the modem and the 861 to the Linksys everything works fine (my PC is connected to the fe0 port of the 861)
Are the 861 and the modem simply incompatible or is it a configuration issue? I have attached my 861 config to this thread.
Trying To Bridge 2wire 2701hg-b To Netgear Router / No Internet Connection
Jun 15, 2011Everyone's 2wire works in bridge mode of they follow these steps url...but when i try i get no internet connection nor does it pick up any internet activity. I even input my account and dsl password in the netgear router gateway still no luck.I'm trying to use the netgear router because in my room i only get 2 signals bars and if i switch to the netgear wireless N router the signal strength would be alot better.

It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?

Feb 20, 2012I've been given a used Dell Latitude laptop and need to access the web to register Microsoft Office, which is currently unlicensed on my machine. I took the cable connector from the back of my PC and put it into the port of the Dell, hoping that that would be sufficient. However, it doesn't connect. The gubbins that is displayed for the local area connection status says something about 80 packets sent and only 8 received.

Motorola SURFboard Extreme Cable Modem Is Connected But No Internet Access
Nov 7, 2012Today I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection.The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.
