The detected problem is the connection between my access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.The network gateway is accessible, but Windows couldn't receive network traffic from the Internet.All other devices (iPad, Xbox, android phone) have no problem connecting to the Internet.Desktop is the only one experiencing the connection issue.
View 1 RepliesMy laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

It appears to be working but before I got the cable modem I had it connected to a router and it was set-up with a static IP address. With my new ISP, I no longer have a static IP address so I am trying to configure the WAP54G to use DHCP. Trying to access it thru the internet at 192.168.1.245 does not work.

However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.

I've done a factory reset on the APs to no avail. I have a 2504 WLC as well that i'm in the process of implementing in a DMZ specificially for these APs, and for testing purposes, I associated the 602 Ap to that WLC as well. This one is running 7.4.100.0 too, same results. It would appear to be a problem with this version of software?
I recently purchased an Asus RT-N12B1. It has an external hardware switch which allows the router to operate in different modes. I put in access point mode. Then I connected an ethernet cable from a LAN port on my Verizon supplied Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2 E router to a LAN port on the access point and turned off the wireless in the router.

I took the cable connector from the back of my PC and put it into the port of the Dell, hoping that that would be sufficient. However, it doesn't connect. Cable modem connected directly to a Dell Vostro laptop works fine. Same cable reconnected to Dell Dimension 4700 is not working. This has all been working fine for years - usually I have a wireless network with the 4700 connected to the router by Ethernet cable, and the Vostro connected by wireless, but I have removed the router to close in on the problem.First, I am not sure if my ip settings are correct. It started when I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 530s from 64 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. After a day, I started getting the "Local Area Connection: A network cable is unplugged or broken internet connection." However, the cable is not unplugged. My other PC and laptop (which is wireless) can connect to the Internet, so I know it's not my ISP or my router. It only happens about every other day. It would work perfectly on day and other day I would go to my internet and I would have no connection. The weird thing is that when I restart my computer, it connects right away. My other two computers that was upgraded also does not have this problem.
First, I thought it may be the cable, so I replaced it with another cable I had. No luck.Then I thought it may be the port on the router, so I plugged it into one of the other ports (including the port that the working PC was plugged into). Next, I checked Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel(R) 8256v-2 10/100 Connection. There is no exclamation point next to it. Plus, under Properties, it indicates that this device is working properly.I shut down all my computers, and unplugged the dsl modem and router. I waited a few minutes and then plugged in the modem, followed by the router. Once both of those were fully booted, I turned my computers back on. Still after a few hours, I lost connection.Following this, I went to Run, typed "cmd" and then "ipconfig." Under Windows IP Configuration, it reads:"Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State.........: Media Disconnected."

View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection.The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.

I can see the AP from a wireless client and connect, but no IP number is provided to the client. The AP is connected to a router which has a DHCP server via wired connection (though a switch). The AP does it self get an IP number from the router but does not pass through DHCP requests from the clients.Occasionally an IP number is provided, but then there is no route to the LAN or the WAN on the other side of the AP.I have tried a whole lot of things to make it work (and been in the internet chat for two hours with a Linksys supporter, who could not make it work either).I have tried to set the IP number in the AP to static.I have tried to remove security (has to be WPA2 eventually, but for the sake of testing it has been removed)I have tried to factory resetI have tried to reinstall the firmware (the same version as the factory installed)etc.

I called my ISP who said there was nothing wrong on their end. Plugging directly into my modem allows me to access the Internet. When I wake up in the morning, the connection is back until 11 or later again. I ran WireShark but I'm not sure what to be looking for. I assumed that this was not my ip but the ip of zoomtown which when i looked at the old routers info i figured this was the ip under the configurations summary that said wan ip, perhpaps i was wrong, i'm not sure but this ip info is static it does not change , but I believe the individual computers ip addresses use dhcp and are not static.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy home lab is in a different room than the cable modem. I have a wireless N router in the room with the cable modem. I have a wireless access point that is connected to a Cisco 2611XM routers fa0/0 interface. The 2611 accepts the DHCP address from the wireless router. However, I can't ping past the wireless LAN 192.168.10.0 network. I know with the wireless router it's two layers of DHCP. Should remove the DHCP settings from the wireless router? The wireless router is a TrendNet TEW-651BR. I can ping my iphone or any device conntected to the wireless router. And my laptop can ping default gateway of the wireless router, which I assume is the cable modem, however the 2611 cannot. So I'm assuming that's why the hosts behind the 2611 can't get to the internet. I followed the below instructions. I know the instructions don't assume your using a wirelss router between 2611 and the cable modem. But, I really don't want to run a cable to the cable modem.
