Home Network :: Connection Between Router And Cable Modem Goes Off At Specific Time?

Jul 20, 2011

Lately I've been experiencing connection problems between my router and cable modem. Every night after 11:00 PM EST, my Internet connection sporadically goes out. I called my ISP who said there was nothing wrong on their end. Plugging directly into my modem allows me to access the Internet. When I wake up in the morning, the connection is back until 11 or later again. I ran WireShark but I'm not sure what to be looking for. There are a lot of random things from the LLMNR protocol like standard query A zmtvrjaql.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG160N Modem Just Dropped Wireless Connection Constantly In Various Time Period

Sep 28, 2012

I've bought a "WAG160N v1.0 Annex A" almost 2 years ago. I never used it's wireless feature untill we moved our house. Now it's like 4 month I'm using its wifi feature and I've got to admit I'm really frustrated by its functionality!

For months the modem just dropped wireless connection constantly in various time periods. Somtimes it went like 2 days without any problem but some other times I had to change channel every 15 minutes for it to get back working. And yes it didn't get fix until I changed the channel, otherwise clients had to wait several hours for a 50/50 chance of reconnection. Now It's two days the changing channel trick no longer works. I tried all channels and even put my notebook next to the modem but no luck. The notebook sometimes connnects to the access point but disconnects after a few seconds. Somtimes it doesnt even detect the SSID of my WAG160N modem. Some friends suggested that the wireless hardware of my modem is broken and no longer works but I'm eager to know if it is broken why is it still broadcasting and sending signal.

I've tried everything from upgrading and downgrading firmware to turning on and off the modem several times and changes modem position. And even tried the G-only 20MHz mode.We are at a very crowdy place. Using inSSIDer I could pick about 15 other access points. Only few of them are using Wireless-N, most of them are using Wireless-G.This is the inSSIDer diagram of my WAG160N modem from a client: [code]

Home Network :: Two Computers Can't Be On Router At Same Time

Aug 13, 2011

I'm using Comcast cable. I have a motorola cable modem. I run that into a Netgear 8-channel router with wireless (that's 8 physical network sockets).I have had these devices hard-connected to the router up until today and everything has been running fine:

* My Desktop (desktop running Windows 7 with Gigabyte motherboard and built-in Realtek NIC)
* T-Mobile VoIP device
* My Laptop (old Alienware running XP with generic NIC)

Today I took my old desktop motherboard from a year ago (Gigabyte motherboard, but not the same as My Desktop, built-in Realtek NIC), gutted it out, replaced the hard drive, got it running Windows 7 and set it up for my kids. Got it connected to the Internet early this morning when my machine was off and it ran fine. While it was updating, I fired up My Desktop and the router stopped working, all machines lost Internet, and I was at a loss. After some troubleshooting, it turns out that if I have My Desktop and the Kids Machine connected to the router and running at the same time, all devices on the router lose connection. I can have the Kids Machine on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. I can have My Desktop on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. But as soon as My Desktop and the Kids Machine come on together, everything gets hosed. The router is set to reserve different IP addresses by Mac Address for every machine. And I've verified that My Desktop gets its IP address correctly, and so does the Kids Machine. They are different IPs.I (usually) know just enough about networking to get a home network set up.

Cisco WAN :: 2611 - Connecting Home Lab Router To Cable Modem Over Wireless Access

Mar 11, 2012

My home lab is in a different room than the cable modem.  I have a wireless N router in the room with the cable modem.  I have a wireless access point that is connected to a Cisco 2611XM routers fa0/0 interface.  The 2611 accepts the DHCP address from the wireless router.  However, I can't ping past the wireless LAN 192.168.10.0 network. I know with the wireless router it's two layers of DHCP.  Should remove  the DHCP settings from the wireless router?  The wireless router is a  TrendNet TEW-651BR.  I can ping my iphone or any device conntected to the wireless router.  And my laptop can ping default gateway of the wireless router, which I assume is the cable modem, however the 2611 cannot.  So I'm assuming that's why the hosts behind the 2611 can't get to the internet.  I followed the below instructions.   I know the instructions don't assume your using a wirelss router between 2611 and the cable modem.  But, I really don't want to run a cable to the cable modem.

Home Network :: Router Not Getting IP From Modem?

Feb 12, 2012

so yesterday I went out and bought a new Cisco Linksys E4200v2 router. My ISP is Communicomm (terrible, but they're the only one here). I also have a Terayon TJ 715x cable modem. I shut down pc & cable modem, connected everything, and powered back up. I am able to access the router config page at 192.168.1.1, but the router does not receive an ip address from the modem. If I plug the modem directly to the pc, I get an ip and am able to connect to the internet. I have called my ISP several times, and they tell me that they do not use MAC address filtering. The only MAC address that they need is that of the modem, which they have. This modem has been working fine for several years. After spending over an hour on the phone with Linksys support, they have determined that the router is functioning properly.I also tried hooking up an older netgear router and got the same results. The following is my ipconfig with the modem connected directly to the pc. [CODE]

Home Network :: PCs On Modem Can't Find PCs On Router?

Oct 3, 2011

I have a wireless modem on the first floor of my house, where I got cables through the wall running throughout rooms in first floor, ground floor and basement.I have my small business at the basement, so I have 2 PCs one printer and one external hard disc which also connects directly to a modem/router.I have 3 PCs from the first and ground floor that connect through the wall to my modem, and everything works well. But for my basement, which only has 1 lan cable output on the wall, I got myself a router so that I can connect all my devices.I connect the router with my modem, and then the PCs, printer and hard disc on the router. The PCs have internet access, so I know the connection to the modem has nothing wrong to it. But I am not able to access the PCs connected to the router from the PCs connected to the modem, or vice versa.

I was told to not obtain an IP address automatically, so I assigned my modem and router to work on 192.168.10.x and gave my PCs IPs such as 192.168.10.19 Only after setting this up did all my PCs have internet access, but again, no network communication between PCs on modem and PCs on router. One thing that might be worth mentioning, is that through time, my network keeps going from Home Network: Network, to Network 2, Network 3, and so on... now it's on Network 5. I have no clue why this happens, and if it's related to my problem

I checked to see if the modem is compatible and it says it is. I went through the configuration that was given to me with the router and I tried using you tube but nothing. Do i need to get a static I.P address off my Internet provider? If I plug my 02 usb dongle directly into my computer it works perfectly and I got the router to work using a ethernet cable and plugging it into the WAN port at the back of the router but I would prefer to let it connect through the 3g port. I get a connection at 40% and 100 bytes are sent and some are received but the connection drops. Is it a problem with the connection? I will upload a image.

Connection Between Access Point / Router Or Cable Modem - Internet Broken

Jan 31, 2012

My laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG320N - Drops DSL Connection Each Time Connect

This is a bit of a pain as the behaiviour is not consistent. whenever I connect to the Device webpage a number of things may happen

1. There is no connection - the page tries to load but never does. While this happens the router drops the ADSL connection and re-connects. I have to close the browser session and try again later. OR

2. The Browser session connects but at some point after the connection, say when I am trying to save changes or even just browsing through the config pages the session hangs, and again the router drops the ADSL connection and re-connects. I have to close the session and try again later.

I have noticed this happens when I use my OpenSuse  11.4 Linux Box using Firefox 5 or even using my Win 7 Box using IE9.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: AE2500 - Needs To Restart Modem Every Time For Connection

Aug 27, 2011

So I just got hooked up to the internet via qwest the other day with my room mate.  We have a wireless modem (PK5000) and he's using the AE2500 usb adapter to get online.  Now, he can get online, but if he ever turns off or sleeps his computer, he can't connect when he turns it back on.  His computer can see the network, full signal, but when he tries to connect it says cannot connect and under troubleshoot options suggests we should move his computer closer to the modem, but its only about 20 feet away and shows full signal.  To get it to work, we need to go into the modem config and reset the wireless options.  No changes are made, just scroll to the bottom and click apply, and presto change he can connect with no problems. He's running windows 7 home edition 64 bit.  The modem's security is WPA/WPA2.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 And Cable Router - Expand Home Network

Apr 27, 2012

I just picked up a 24 port Catalyst 2950 to expand my home network and learn a bit more about networking. Having just upgraded the IOS software 'm now trying to get this to work as required on my network but I'm having a few issues.

My intentions are to plug my cable router/modem wan connection which is set up as the dhcp server to fa 0/1, then use fa 0/2 - 24 for the rest of my wired network. So essentially all on the same subnet interfacing with the router 192.168.0.1.

So far I have set up all of the security on the switch, and have all switch ports assigned to vlan1 with no IPs. My laptop connected to fa0/2 however is not assigned an ip address. Looking at a few posts I ahve rightly or wrongly played about with dhcp snooping.

Netgear N300 Dgn2200v1 Adsl2+ Modem Router / Extending Wifi Range For Home Network?

Dec 11, 2012

how to properly configure 2 different hardware devices to extend the current wifi signal of my home network.I'm using a Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem as my primary access point (AP) and a Netgear N300 DGN2200v1 ADSL2+ modem router which will function "behind" the SBG6580 in repeater mode. I previously had DSL for my internet connectivity but recently switched to broadband cable for faster speeds.Due to the layout of my home, I cannot physically connect the Netgear router to the Motorola modem via ethernet cable and need both devices to communicate wirelessly. I have already done extensive reading on this subject and best practices suggest that, whenever possible, both units should be the same brand/manufacturer. The Netgear appliance does have the capability of being configured as a repeater so if I don't have to buy a "network extender" that would be my preference.I understand that both units must be configured to have the same SSID, subnet, wireless channel and security encryption. In repeater mode the Netgear router can't be configured to use WPA2-PSK so I need to use WEP instead.

Home Network :: Wireless Loses Speed Over Time (at College)

Oct 25, 2011

Using my Acer Aspire 5750 at school my wireless connection speed will drop from around 4 Mbps to .30 Mbps. The speed will start out fine from startup and degrade over time. This happens only at school, and only on this laptop using this wireless card. My home network hold its 3Mbps down just fine. My campus has two wireless networks, one is WPA enterprise encrypted and one is open, both exhibit this behavior. Using my network credentials on another machine or using a different wireless card this machine works fine.I've updated to the latest driver and rolled back to previous ones.

This is happening on a fresh install of Windows and on Ubuntu live CD so it is not malware or something along those lines. Spoofing a different MAC address does not change this behavior. The devid is PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4358&SUBSYS_E040105B&REV_00

It is a Broadcom Wireless N...

What could be causing this problem? Does the NIC not like the access points or vice verse? Are they any settings I should tweak? The drop in speed happens no more than 10 minutes after boot and occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu. I should add that other students don't have this issue so it is not a network wide thing. Other students get around 4mbps down continuously. Using somebody elses credentials on this machine doesn't work either.

SMCD3G Cable Modem / Belkin Play N600 Router - Small Office Network?

Apr 21, 2011

I'm trying to network a small office and have the following devices:

SMCD3G Cable Modem
Belkin Play N600 Router
Digi Mil-H1130 8 Port Ethernet SOHO Hub
Hubbel Cat5 Patch Panel (goes up to 12)

We're replacing our DSL line with a Cable line. Our DSL was a one piece wireless router/modem. When it was installed, it was inside our office, next to the server, and plugged into Wall Jack 1 for all the other computers to connect to. Our server plugged into this modem/router. We didn't have the Belkin Router at the time. The Patch Panel wires went into the Hub behind our office and everything was fine.

The cable modem is now next to the Hub and Patch Panel. I bought the router since we didn't have the wireless feature that the DSL had and everyone I spoke to said I need a router to set up the office. I ran one of the LAN lines from the modem into the Router where it says Modem (WAN). From the Router, I ran the line 1 (LAN) into the Hub. (Does the number matter if nothing is plugged into it in our office?) No computer is able to connect to the internet except my laptop which connects wireless. It works fine.

Another problem. We have a server computer that's Unix based. In order for anyone to connect to the server to access the office software used, the IP address of the router must be 192.9.2.1 or the computer your using won't connect via Multiview 2000 Terminal Emulator. I can't connect to the server because the IP address of the router is still 192.168.2.1. I don't know where I have to go in the router settings to change it. I've tried a few spots and it tells me the IP address is invalid. The settings I had with the DSL modem/router were:

Modem IP address - 192.9.2.1
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
DHCP Start Address - 192.9.2.100
DHCP End Address - 192.9.2.150

It's not like I need to run wires. Everything is set. If something is plugged into a wrong spot, I can switch it.

Additional info:
There are 4 computers in the office and 8 numbered wall jacks.
Server computer - Wall jack 8 (IP address of this machine - 192.9.2.25)
XP Machine 1 - Wall jack 4 (can't connect to server! No internet.)
XP Machine 2 - Wall jack 1 (Is able to connect to the server! No internet.)
Win CE Machine - Wall jack 9 -

I assume. I have a wire that goes through the wall on this machine and it isn't marked. (Rarely used so not sure about server connection)

Wireless Windows7 laptop - connects to the internet fine since it bypasses all these wires. Can't connect to server.

Under the DHCP client list, only 2 computers are listed. The one that has internet is my computer. The other computer listed is wall jack 4 and that has internet now.

my computer - 192.9.2.2
wall jack 4 - 192.9.2.3

The router IP is 192.168.2.1 and the Cable Modem is 10.1.10.11. If I type either number into my web browser it will take me to the router setup page. I don't know where/how to check if it's only one device acting as DHCP. What I want to do is be able to get online with all the computers as well as have access to the software on the server through the office wall jacks. In order to do that I need the router IP address to be 192.9.2.1 and then I'd be able to connect to it.

Right now, one computer is able to connect to the server via hard wire but can't connect to the internet.Another computer is able to connect to the internet via hard wire but can't connect to the server. My laptop can connect wireless to the internet but not the server. In a perferct world, all the computers should be able to connect to both the internet and the server. Right now, it's one or the other with both hard wired machines and I don't know why. Is there a wire not in the hub right? Is a patch panel wire plugged into the wrong port of the hub? I don't know what's supposed to go where. tell me "wire X from the modem goes to Port Z of the router, and Wire Y from the the router goes to number V on the Hub, and that wire goes to number T on the patch panel for the Port number R in the office to work..." I'll try it.

Then I think all I need to do is change the router's IP address to 192.9.2.1 and everyone should be able to connect to the server through the Multiview 2000 Terminal Emulator. When I tried to change the IP address on the router it's telling me it's not valid. Under LAN settings it says 192.168.2.1 - when I try to change it to 192.9.2.1 it tells me LAN IP address is invalid. I clicked on More Info below that in the router page and a pop up gives me info. It says:

The "IP address" is the Internal IP address of the Router. To access the advanced setupinterface, type this IP address into the address bar of your browser. This address can be changed if needed. To Change the IP address, type in the new IP address and click "ApplyChanges". The IP address you choose should be a non-routable IP. Examples of a non-routable IP are:

192.168.y.x (where y is anything between 0 and 255, and x is anything between 1 and 254.)

10.y.y.x (where y is anything between 0 and 255, and x is anything between 1 and 254.)

172.z.y.x (where z is anything from 16 to 31, and y is anything between 0 and 255, and x is anything between 1 and 254.)

Home Network :: TL-WR340GD - Port 80 Blocked At Random Points Of Time?

Apr 15, 2012

The problems looks like this: I'm able to browse the web without any problems until at random points of time - might be 2 hours after I turn on my PC or 5 or even half an hour the port 80 gets blocked - actually more like it hangs it self. As whatever I try to open i get "waiting for response" going and going. It's not even returning "page not found" error or anything. To top everything all other ports work fine - i can use https, ping run tracert - no problem there.

I've spend two days looking for some answer on the web but came up empty. I've scanned for malicious software with ad-awar and malwarebyte anit-malware - nothing came up. After restart of the pc everything comes back to normal but its frustrating needing to do that every now and then.

My home network looks like this: I have some broadband modem that is connected to local wifi TP-LINK router (Model No. TL-WR340G/TL-WR340GD). There are four devices using this connection - two pc's (laptops), android phone and android tablet.
