Installed Windows 7 Now Have Broken Internet Connection
Feb 25, 2011For about two months now I have been experiencing a problem with my Internet connection. It started when I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 530s from 64 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. After a day, I started getting the "Local Area Connection: A network cable is unplugged or broken internet connection." However, the cable is not unplugged. My other PC and laptop (which is wireless) can connect to the Internet, so I know it's not my ISP or my router. It only happens about every other day. It would work perfectly on day and other day I would go to my internet and I would have no connection. The weird thing is that when I restart my computer, it connects right away. My other two computers that was upgraded also does not have this problem.
First, I thought it may be the cable, so I replaced it with another cable I had. No luck.Then I thought it may be the port on the router, so I plugged it into one of the other ports (including the port that the working PC was plugged into). Next, I checked Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel(R) 8256v-2 10/100 Connection. There is no exclamation point next to it. Plus, under Properties, it indicates that this device is working properly.I shut down all my computers, and unplugged the dsl modem and router. I waited a few minutes and then plugged in the modem, followed by the router. Once both of those were fully booted, I turned my computers back on. Still after a few hours, I lost connection.Following this, I went to Run, typed "cmd" and then "ipconfig." Under Windows IP Configuration, it reads:"Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State.........: Media Disconnected."

Mar 4, 2012I am having problems after installing the ae2500 adapter in my win 7 machine had to remove malwarebytes and avg to get it to work but now it constantly has problems dropping the internet connection. I have to disable the adapter then enable it to reconnect to the internet. Are there other compatibility problems with this setup that I need to address?

Jan 31, 2012My laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

Dec 27, 2011I just re-installed Windows XP Professional on my Dell XPS Gen 4. Everything works fine on it but the internet. I can open IE, but it just says "This page cannot be displayed" and on and on.Since I re-installed it I believe their are not many drivers on it, I don't really know, and I think that might be it but I am not sure. And I am not sure which drivers I need if it is missing drivers.

i was tring to connect to the internet but after about 30 second the connection to the internet was terminated, and i need to unplug the device and replug it , in order it will work again (for about 30 seconds more).
i have an edimax router and all my other devices are connect perfectly (laptop, iphone , galaxy s)

Dec 13, 2012I have been using WAP4401N for almost a year in our office and I’m very happy of this device, never had any problem. So I bought 3 new ones for our customer which supposed to work in configuration below:
Network ----- AP1 –Bridge mode ----- AP2 – Bridge mode -----AP3 – Access Point mode.
Everything was working perfectly fine to the moment than bridge was broken. I can get access to all AP (obviously when connected to proper part of network) however not able to ping from AP2 -> AP1 or opposite so basically no link between AP1 and AP2. After reboot everything is working fine to next time (happens twice in two days). When I go to System Performance can see Connection is enabled but doesn’t work.
I upgraded firmware to latest version (2.0.5.3) but haven’t worked. When I’ve done some research found many users having similar problem with this device and basically they recommend to don’t buy. Unfortunately this is not an option for me as I’ve already purchased them.

Dec 1, 2012I recently swapped a router out for an old one to check an internet problem (to rule it out basically) and when I tried swapping the newer (better) one back in it networks fine (ie computers can see/stream off each other) but it doesnt recognize as being plugged into the internet.
After doing a factory reset via routerlogin.net I still have the same problem. The only thing I can think of is maybe the port got damaged? (The ethernet cables all work fine).
My process for hooking up the new router in case I was doing something wrong:
Unplug cable modem power, swap all the cords, on router while cable modem was rebooting and then once modem connected I turn on router. Did I need to restart the PC as well? Is that why this is screwing up?

Sep 14, 2012I'm off to university on Monday but I couldn't afford a laptop (I have a huge Dell gaming desktop!) so my awesome parents gave me their little Acer Aspire One D260-A netbook; Intel Atom Processor N450 (1.66GHz, 512K), 1GB, 160GB HDD. It's a couple of years old, was running XP and literally everything was broken - no sound, no backlight, faulty touchpad etc. - so first port of call was a clean install of Windows 7 and updating every driver (and BIOS) off the Acer website from a USB.Problem is, everything is running like a dream... except for the wireless. When I tried to install the latest Atheros drivers (doing all of this from a USB due to lack of connectivity) I received a Code 10: driver cannot start error, so after some troubleshooting I was pointed towards different drivers, only for Windows to inform me that it can't find the hardware.
Looking in devices, I'm seeing an Atheros Ethernet connection device but the wireless card seems to have taken a walk. Xirrus isn't seeing anything either. My current internet is between Virgin and BT (mine and my partner's house) but we move in together on Monday and we'll be setting up Sky, so I can't give you much information on internet. I do have an ethernet cable I can plug into our Virgin wifi home router (D-Link DSL-2640R Broadband Wireless G ADSL2+) if need be. One of my main problems seems to be finding the correct drivers as due to the wireless card disappearing, I'm not sure how to tell what the wireless hardware actually is.

When I start the internetdiagnostics from windows, he says it's the modem or the connection from laptop, router, modem to internet. However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.
I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.

Oct 31, 2011I just reinstalled windows 7 on my Intel i3 M380 laptop, and now I cannot connect to the internet wirelessly and I can't connect with a ethernet cable. In device manager, it says those devices aren't installed. I can't install them because the laptop has no internet. I can't seem to find the drivers for them either on intel. Seems like the reinstallation deleted my network adapter.. I can't find the correct link on intel.. I've tried like 3-4 on my laptop and none of them seem to work..

I'm currently relocating, so I unplugged my laptop from the Ethernet connection I had at my old place.At two different locales, I have tried to use an Ethernet connection in order to get better speed (the wireless at the first locale was non-existent and at the second it is extremely slow in my room). I have done so with two separate cables that I have tested on others' computers and found that they are perfectly fine. About a year ago, I updated to Windows 7 from the pre-installed Vista. Never had any problems (as I said, everything was fine up until about a week ago). The installed card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Everything under Device Manager indicates that the hardware is working properly and has all of its drivers installed, but nothing is working.I have tried to uninstall and re-install the drivers (albeit by allowing windows to find them automatically), but the result is the exact same.I have checked the port and found that there is no debris or obstructions. My computer hasn't been dropped or mishandled in any way.

Jun 8, 2012I have a LAN adapter and a USB wireless internet connection. When both connected windows 7 always uses the USB. I tried changing the metric values but no luck. Currently automatic metric on all adapters.LAN connected. ipconfig shows that it is connected to the correct ip/dns/gateway etc. IPv4 Route table shows Metric 24 Then connected USB. ipconfig shows USB connectivity then LAN in that order. Internet is now through USB. IPv4 Route table shows Metric 4249 for LAN and USB is 41. Gateway for USB shows "on-link". netstat -rn shows USBDEVICE on top.Changed LAN metric to 5 and now the route table shows LAN as 9 (not sure why it added 4) and USB as 41.
Netstat shows LAN then USB. ipconfig shows LAN then USB.But still connection is through USB. How do I know? Task manager shows utilization only through USB as well as speed is showing around 1mbps rather than LANs 10mbps. How can I get win7 use LAN while USB is connected. I am just trying to use USB as a backup just in case I lose LAN connection.I thought i will make USB metric manually to say 10. But it says I have to reconnect for it to be effective. Currently USB still shows below LAN and still has 9 and 41 in the table.Disconnected USB. Table shows LAN metric as 24 (Not sure why it got changed from 9 and setting got reverted by to automatic)Reconnected USB. Now in the setting still shows 10 and the route table shows 11 for USB and LAN shows 4249 (settings shows 4245, 4 less))For some reason restarting USB is resetting LAN setting when reconnected.
Internet Connection Sharing Between 2 Windows 7 PC?
Jul 15, 2011I newly installed win 7 in 2 pc's. I had used the internet connection sharing when I had Win xp installed in them before. So I gave the static IP address,192.168.0.1 to the pc with the internet connection, and had the other pc obtained the IP address automatically. File sharing works fine, but somehow the 2nd PC could not be connected to the internet. When I checked its connection details, the Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address was 169.254.224.63. I think this IP address should be something like 192.168.0.xxx, but it's configured to auto, so I can't really do anything right now
