Internet Port Broken On WNDR4500?

Dec 1, 2012

I recently swapped a router out for an old one to check an internet problem (to rule it out basically) and when I tried swapping the newer (better) one back in it networks fine (ie computers can see/stream off each other) but it doesnt recognize as being plugged into the internet.

After doing a factory reset via routerlogin.net I still have the same problem. The only thing I can think of is maybe the port got damaged? (The ethernet cables all work fine).

My process for hooking up the new router in case I was doing something wrong:

Unplug cable modem power, swap all the cords, on router while cable modem was rebooting and then once modem connected I turn on router. Did I need to restart the PC as well? Is that why this is screwing up?

Networking :: Port Forwarding On Router WNDR4500

Apr 29, 2013

I have a netgear WNDR4500. What I want to do is stream video from my PC to my IPAD using a program I downloaded from the IOS Store. I simply cant seem to get the router to forward the port.

I will post 3 pics showing what I see on the router side and what the streaming program is asking erroring out. The program on my IPAD just errors out and does not see the PC at home at all.

WNDR4500 - Connecting Two Routers For Internet Using Wi-Fi On Both?

Oct 10, 2012

I have two routers, one Apple router and a WNDR4500. The WNDR4500 is the second router and I need to have access to the computers and printers on the first router. Right now I have a cable from the first router (Apple Router) connected to the WAN port on the second router (WNDR4500). How do I set up so I can use both routers as wifi access-spots, both have internet and all the printers and computers are available on both? So I can print and share regardless of which wifi and router I'm connected to.

Asus RT-N12B1 / Port Forwarding Broken With Installation Of Access Point?

Mar 3, 2012

I recently purchased an Asus RT-N12B1. It has an external hardware switch which allows the router to operate in different modes. I put in access point mode. Then I connected an ethernet cable from a LAN port on my Verizon supplied Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2 E router to a LAN port on the access point and turned off the wireless in the router.

I have dynamic DNS setup and port forwarding setup in the router to forward from port 50000 to 192.168.1.2:22 which is a server plugged into a LAN port on the router. This is no longer working since adding the AP and disabling wireless on the primary router. how to debug?

Installed Windows 7 Now Have Broken Internet Connection

Feb 25, 2011

For about two months now I have been experiencing a problem with my Internet connection. It started when I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 530s from 64 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. After a day, I started getting the "Local Area Connection: A network cable is unplugged or broken internet connection." However, the cable is not unplugged. My other PC and laptop (which is wireless) can connect to the Internet, so I know it's not my ISP or my router. It only happens about every other day. It would work perfectly on day and other day I would go to my internet and I would have no connection. The weird thing is that when I restart my computer, it connects right away. My other two computers that was upgraded also does not have this problem.

First, I thought it may be the cable, so I replaced it with another cable I had. No luck. Then I thought it may be the port on the router, so I plugged it into one of the other ports (including the port that the working PC was plugged into). Next, I checked Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel(R) 8256v-2 10/100 Connection. There is no exclamation point next to it. Plus, under Properties, it indicates that this device is working properly.I shut down all my computers, and unplugged the dsl modem and router. I waited a few minutes and then plugged in the modem, followed by the router. Once both of those were fully booted, I turned my computers back on. Still after a few hours, I lost connection.Following this, I went to Run, typed "cmd" and then "ipconfig." Under Windows IP Configuration, it reads:"Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State.........: Media Disconnected."

Zyxel - Ethernet Cable Portal On Laptop Broken / Cannot Access Internet

Jun 20, 2012

I do not have access to internet (I'm on some unsecured internet from around here now, very slow). When I start the internetdiagnostics from windows, he says it's the modem or the connection from laptop, router, modem to internet. However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.

I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.

Connection Between Access Point / Router Or Cable Modem - Internet Broken

Jan 31, 2012

My laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRTP54G Route Table - Broken Internet Access

May 2, 2011

I know that WRTP54G is a voip device, but it is router as well and my problem is related to routing part.I cannot access public internet servers with IP in subnet 2.0.0.0 / 8 and 1.0.0.0 / 8. In the 2.0.0.0 / 8 subnet are some akamai cdn servers (yes, the fbcdn .After some time I've found, that routing table in wrtp54g contains also entries:

1.0.0.0                 0.0.0.0                 255.0.0.0                 LAN&Wireless2.0.0.0                 0.0.0.0                 255.0.0.0                 LAN&Wireless

which cannot be deleted. It looks like someone wanted to filter dark space when the router was developed. Is there any way, to get rid of it? I've restored to factory defaults, no change. Firmware version is 3.1.27.ETSI

Netgear WNDR4500 / 802.11n And 802.11ac Compatibility?

Mar 31, 2013

I know that N operates on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, whereas AC operates only on 5Ghz. Yet many AC routers advertise as operating on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. So what happens when you connect to an AC access point on 2.4Ghz? Does that operate using 802.11n?

What happens when you try to connect to an 802.11ac access point using an 802.11n client on 5Ghz? Is this possible, or are legacy connections only possible at 2.4Ghz?

I have a Netgear WNDR4500 (802.11n, dual band) currently that I am very happy with. I figure I will eventually switch over to AC. I'm trying to determine if I would be better off simply replacing the N unit with an AC unit, or running both (perhaps WNDR4500 to handle 2.4Ghz clients, AC access point to handle 5Ghz clients, or similar).

WNDR4500 Adding A Dedicated Firewall To Network

Feb 22, 2013

I'm considering adding a dedicated Firewall to my network. Here is what my home network currently consists of:

-Comcast Arris TM722 Broadband Modem
-Netgear WNDR4500 N900 Gigabit WiFi 450/450 Router
-2 x Netgear GS108NA 8 Port Gigabit Switches
-1 x Netgear WN2500RP Universal WiFi Range Extender
-4 Pc's running Windows 7 Home Premium
-Netgear ReadyNAS NV+
-3 x Blu-ray players - Sony & Oppo (2 wired, 1 connected by WiFi)
-Sony PS3 (wired)
-Onkyo TX-NR905 AVR (wired)
-Sony KDL-55HX800 TV (wired)
-2 x Vizio E400 Seies Smart TV's (1 wired, 1 connected by WiFi through Netgear WN2500RP Range Extender)
-HP Photosmart Printer

All wired connections using Cat6 ethernet cabling. So, I want to setup a Gigabit Firewall between the modem and the router (and just use the router as the wireless access point) but I don't want to take a hit on my bandwidth speed.I was thinking of the Netgear ProSafe FVS318G for this.

WNDR4500 - Shutting Down Wired PC Disconnects All Wireless Connections

Oct 30, 2012

So I have this Netgear N900 (WNDR4500) wireless router. I have one PC connected via ethernet cable to the router and 4 wireless devices connected wirelessly. As long as the ethernet-connected PC is turned on, the other wireless connections work fine, but as soon as I shut down that PC, the internet connection is lost (although I can still connect to the router via the wireless laptops - router login page - so I know the router's wifi part is working). Why would my PC need to be on? Does the PC handle any of the internet connection for the router?

I hope I don't need to keep my PC running 24/7 so that the other devices can access the internet!

Netgear WNDR4500 - Adding Wireless Router To Existing Network?

Sep 23, 2012

Added a wireless router to our office here so that people with laptops could get on the net without having to physically plug in. Right now it is ok, but the router is acting as it's own DHCP server instead of our server here assigning out the IP's.

The main gripe I have is I can only login to the router through my phone and not through my computer. How can I achieve this. We have multiple offices that all connect through a VPN. I would like our sys admin to access the router at his location as well.

Do I just turn off DHCP on the router and thats it? The model is Netgear WNDR4500.

Netgear WNDR4500 - Clients Not Showing Up In Clients List

Jul 6, 2012

I have a Netgear WNDR4500 running the stock firmware, acting as a router for my home. I also have 2 routers that are flashed with DD-WRT (Linksys WRT54G and Asus WL-520GU) running as client bridges. The Netgear is 192.168.1.1 and the other 2 client bridges are 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.10.3. The Netgear router is performing DHCP giving addresses from 192.168.10.100 to 192.168.10.254. I have numerous machines connected to the Netgear, wirelessly and wired, and numerous machines wired to each client bridge. All machines have IP addresses that are 192.168.10.100, 192.168.10.101, 192.168.10.102, etc... Everything is working fine, but I have one question: When I access the Netgear router, it shows the client bridges as clients, machines that are wired and wireless to the Netgear router are listed as clients, but the client list does not show any clients that are connected to the client bridges. I assumed that since the router is performing DHCP that all clients would show up.
