2wire With 4 Ethernet Ports / Modem Randomly Shuts Itself Off?
Jun 20, 2011
It is a 2wire with 4 Ethernet ports and wireless capability. I have a pc and xbox connected via Ethernet and a laptop and smartphone connected wirelessly. The problem is that my router randomly completely shuts off/resets itself causing me to lose connection. This happens both when things are in use and not in use.

I'm using a 2wire 2701 HG-B (AT&T). Throughout the day (sometimes even 5minutes apart) the DSL light will turn red, the internet will turn off green and 20-40 seconds later they'll both become green again. It's irritating because it sometimes happens so frequently and causes me to close EVERYTHING I have opened in my browser. If I'm on xbox or an online game, it disconnects completely (even if the light is only red for 15 seconds)I have data error stats .tl;dr: 2wire modem giving me problems. DSL light turns red randomly for 20-40 seconds, sometimes up to twice in 5 minutes.

This has been going on for a few months now, but I'm just finally getting around to finding out the issue. So basically, this is what's happening; I'm randomly browsing some pages just fine, then I try to go to another page, and I can't load the page. I try to open a new page after that, it won't load. My internet still says it's at full bar internet access. I can somehow still use pages that are open (Such as a chat program, I can still chat in there, but I can't load any pages) for as long as a few hours after the internet supposedly shuts off. Everybody else in my household doesn't, and hasn't ever had this problem before, so I seriously doubt it's the modem. I've tried moving my laptop into those places to see if it's a problem with reception in the area I'm at, though it doesn't. The only thing that will turn the internet back on again, is a computer restart. After a fresh restart, the internet will last anywhere between 4 hours to a couple of days before doing that.?

I have DSL service through Verizon, using the wireless modem Westell 7500. At least 1-2 days a week the power light goes out on the modem. I typically reboot the modem and it takes 1-2 minutes to restart but sometimes I have to reboot a second time in order to get the power light to go on.

since the past week, I have not been able to use my home internet network properly on my laptop. I'm experiencing a really strange issue with it. Whenever I connect my laptop to my home network and try to use the web browser, I get a message from my modem that says that my laptop has been blocked by parental controls and cannot access web browsing. However, this is incorrect, my laptop has full access with parental control restrictions. This only happens when I try to use the web browserWhen I use a third party application such as Windows Mail it works fine.

I purchaseda trendnet 692 GR router because I understood that I would be able to stream from let's say my computer to my TV that is up the stairs. Here is the problem. I did get the router to use my existing 2Wire 2701HG modem.Yes I can connect my Samsung 6100 to the wireless 2Wire but I thought the trendnet setup would work the best.I and Trendnet support set up my router and media bridge and the two do work but my tv won't work through the MB. I have connected to the network but the next part of the connection (the internet) won't connect. I have tried different IP settings that I thought would connect but nothing so far has worked. Also I have taken a 50' ethernet cablefrom the trendnet router to the tv and I do get a connection.I have also taken a laptop through the media bridge and connected to the trendnet router. The customer service at trendnet can't take this to the next level(which is a$40 one session professional service)

I have a 2wire Modem connected to a Cisco Wireless N Router, that is connected to another Cisco Wireless N Router. All was working well. In my absence sbc (AT&T) changed the pass word of the 2wire Modem. The 2wire has stoped communication with the Cisco Wireless N Routers. I connected am Ethernet wire to one of the ports of the 2wire, and connected it to the 2nd Cisco Wireless N Router. The signal gets to the 2nd Cisco Router. However, when I attempt to access the Internet on the CPU connected to the 2 Cisco Router, I get an error Message saying that there is a problem with the Modem and/or Router. On the available Networks selection screen I can see the connections that I want. The selection info shows connected. But when I try to connect, the I can't.

I'm using a 2wire 2701HG-B wireless router/dsl modem combo. My computer is a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. The router/modem has been reliable for the last 2 years.. hardly ever needing a reset, reboot, or anything. Then all of a sudden my wifi network didn't show up anymore. I did a reboot, nothing. Kind of weird so I got on the phone with AT&T and they walked me through some simple stuff and they determined it's either the router or my computer. Well I know it's not the computer, I can use the mobile hotspot on my android phone and it gets on just fine. All of the lights on the router are green, AT&T showed that all the tests show the internet connection is working. Since the router is not sending out a wifi signal anymore, I had to plug the ethernet cable in. The system recognizes a connection but says it isn't connected because it is a "public" connection. Additionally, if I go to network connections with the cable plugged in, I can see my DirecTV DVR is showing on the network (because it is connected to the router via ethernet too). So it isn't broadcasting wifi, I can see my DVR over the network in windows, but I can't get the IP renewed.
Here is the ipconfig /all print:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : thindery-laptop
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
[code]....
When I try to do an ipconfig /renew, it says this:Windows IP Configuration An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The operation was canceled by the user.An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system cannot find the file specified. The AT&T rep said I may need a new modem and router. It seems weird because it worked fine one night, then the next night all of a sudden it didn't work.

my computer randomly disconnects from my modem and will not reconnect until I restart my computer (do not need to restart modem). When I check the modem, it always is still running. The lights on the modem do the exact same thing whether the internet is working or not. The disconnection is entirely random. Sometimes it will disconnect immediately, sometimes it will take up to a few hours. I do not have a router hooked up to the modem, and the only other thing the modem is hooked up to is our tv. But even when the tv box is off, we still randomly disconnect.
On the previous forum thread that I read, some of the comments asked for the person to paste their entire ipconfig and their entire ping list from command prompt I will post that below: [code] Could it possibly be a virus? I am currently performing a virus scan using Microsoft Security Essentials. I will report the results of that tomorrow, seeing that it will take several (up to 10) hours to finish and it is nearly midnight of me posting this.I should also note that whenever I unplug my Ethernet cord it gives me a symbol that looks like this other than the regular disconnect with the red "X" over the wire symbol.

We have an ASA 5505. 5505 comes with two default vlans 1&2 with each of them marked as inside & outside respectively. My query is , if i do not want to use vlans on 5505 and only want to use the Ethernet ports as pure physical layer 3 ports, is it possible?i.e. i want to assign a layer 3 ip address on eth0/0 and eth0/1 and make them as the inside & outside interfaces rather than vlans. is it possible to do away with vlans in 5505 & will it work otherwise?

It's plugged in via an Ethernet Cable from a Homeplug Adapter, since the modem is not in the same room as me. Basically, I've been having problems with the internet randomly disconnecting and for no reasons. There's some days where it'll go fine, no problems at all, other than a few things that always disconnects it, then there is days like today, where it keeps connecting every time I try to go to a webpage. I cannot seem to upload anything to the web (Youtube, Mediafire, etc.) without the internet disconnecting before it uploads. The only other problem that I've had constantly, even if it is working fine, is I cannot seem to do a video call on Skype or really use my webcam to broadcast online without my internet disconnecting. Also, when I play games via Steam such as TF2, Call Of Duty, etc., I have no problem with the internet at all, it works smoothly and never crashes when I play games. And the desktop is the only thing that ever has this problem. We have 1 other desktop, and 3 laptops (all connected wirelessly) and they do not disconnect from the internet at all. This has been going on for quite a while, and I'm still not certain on what is triggering it.

So i just moved my desktop into my dorm room and am using an ethernet cable supplied by the school for my desktop. Every 10 or 15 seconds i will lose internet connection because according to the troubleshooting on the computer there is apparently no cable hooked up (there is obviously). I've tried using both ports in the router and both yield same results and 2 different ethernet cables which both had the same problem. Others in the building have internet connection w/o problems which leads me to believe that there is something up with my computer. I run windows 7.

It has been such an annoying problem, I really was hoping to find a fix for this sooner as I know other people have had similar issues. Does anyone have any other ideas because I would like to use the only ethernet connection sometime in the near future. Having to run of an WPN11 netgear usb adapter at the moment.

Basically my modem will randomly disconnect (all the lights shut down expect for the power one) for 2-3 seconds max and it happens just at a random time. When I'm on my PC I barely notice cause I'm not consistently loading something up. However, when I'm gaming (PS3) it's really frustrating because I will always get disconnected. The router is working fine and my PS3 is connected by wire. What should I do? Can it be my internet provider?

I have a 2Wire 2701HG-B modem/router provided to me by AT&T for my DSL service. I have one issue and a seperate question sort of related to it.The issue I'm having is that whenever a laptop gets online with wireless internet the modem will randomly reset connection. Some times it will do it every 30 seconds, some times it will be once an hour or even more.It works perfectly fine on any laptop when plugged in with Ethernet cable but only with wireless it will glitch out. It does this whether it is the only computer online on the network, and also when there are a few others online so it's just the simple fact of the wireless resetting it somehow.I've done lots of google searching and some people say changing the line pair settings fixed it for them. Some say changing from b/g mode to just g mode fixed it. I've tried every thing that I've come across and nothing has worked so far. Apparently this is a very common problem for this model I just can not find the right solution that has worked for other people, to work for me as well.
if I were to want to make this modem/router just a modem and hook up my own router for N wireless would this be possible? I know I've read ways about putting combos in DMZ mode or something but I don't really know what I'm looking for because everything is worded different in this modem's settings. Can any one provide any insight as to if this is possible, and if it's even worth it to do so? Mainly worried about the first thing I mentioned though, this is just a side note.

I have a sb 6120 modem and a wireless router that have been randomly dropping and resetting. I thought it was happening with increased bandwidth usage, but it doesn't appear to be linked to when I'm downloading or gaming. Just in case, I set up port forwarding for my games but no change. I have swapped out wireless routers and directly connected to my modem and it still happens. I have spoken with my ISP and they can't see that I have lost connection even while I am currently disconnected. My stats look good with my downstream power stable around 4 or 5 and up around 38. Also, I have pinged my modem and each computer connected wirelessly and show no packet loss.

Yesterday when I got home from college my computer randomly could not connect properly to my wireless modem. It tells me the SSID etc but when I connect to it, it becomes an unidentified network and has no internet connectivity. This problem only occurs on my laptop via wifi, wifi still works fine on other computers and my phone so I assume it is a problem on my laptops end. Also my laptop can connect to other wireless networks, ie my schools public network, and they work fine. I'm running windows 7 home premium.

I am trying to figure out whats wrong with my parents apple airport router. Its connected into an Arris TM402P/110 cable modem. It randomly stops working, the network is there and shows up fine but you cant connect to it. It might work for a day or 2 and then just stops. I am trying to figure out if there is a configuration issue or the airport hardware is just failing. I am not sure where to start troubleshooting. The event log for the modem isnt much help, the following message shows up occasionally:
No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out
Whats interesting is my mom plugged her desktop right into the cable modem and then after plugging it back into the airport the wireless was working again. Is it possible there is a DHCP issue? If the hardware is failing what would be a good replacement for the airport?

my house has 4 ports in each room, 2 coaxial, 1 for the net, and one for a TV, and there's a phone jack and a Cat5e Ethernet port. From what I have learned, all my ports lead up to a "closet", and I have found it. It has all the connections for the LAN, and everything else. I am confused on what to do next. I see that there are blue Ethernet cords connected to the ports on one side, and that they are not connected to anything on the other. I thought I had to buy a switch for all these ports, and I haven't done so yet. where am I supposed to connect the modem to the internet. It is currently connected to the internet coaxial port, which it then connect to the VoIP switch, and is then connected to everything else. Where is the coaxial port that I have to plug it in to, and what is it labeled?.

I have a Cisco 1841 that has an ADSL (ATM) card installed. It was previously used with an ADSL line to provide NAT routing for an office. Now I want to use it witha cable modem, which would mean abandoning the ADSL interface and instead routing between the two Ethernet ports.Between the Cisco and the LAN is a Linux transparent proxy. It provides routing between 192.168.1.0 (LAN) and 192.168.2.111 (Cisco LAN interface). The network looks like this:
Cable Modem(174.76.21.1)(gateway) --- (174.76.21.10)(WAN) Cisco 1841 (LAN)(192.168.2.111) --- (192.168.2.11) Linux Proxy (192.168.1.10) --- (192.168.1.0) LAN
For testing and diagnostics, I've connected a laptop to each FastEthernet port on the router. One laptop is configured with the IP 174.76.21.1 to simulate the cable modem gateway and the other laptop has the IP 192.168.2.11 to simulate the Linux proxy. From those systems I've performed the following diagnostics with the following results:
From 192.168.2.11
Ping 192.168.2.111 - OK
Ping 174.76.21.15 - OK
Ping 174.76.21.1 - Timed out
From 174.76.21.1
Ping 174.76.21.15 - OK
NAT translation to LAN IP's failing
There are some vestiges of the ADSL configuration, but I've cleaned most of it out and shut down the ATM interfaces. Here's my config:
!
version 12.4
service timestamps debug datetime msec
service timestamps log datetime msec
no service password-encryption

i would like to "team" two ethernet ports on a 2921 router into a single redundant link to a switch, similar to how an HP server teams multiple NICs to a single IP address. is port-channeling the best/only way to do this? i don't necessarily need the two links to be load balanced or bonded, considering the serial side of this router is just a single T1. i just want the links redundant, so in case something goes wrong with one cable or switchport, traffic will go over the other link.

There is an option for the 2 port where one can mix and match SFPs and RJ45 but I was looking for something which is RJ45 only. Are there any options for them available.I know I could get something with FastEthernet type but was looking for the GigabitEthernet type.

I have an ASUS P5E3 Deluxe motherboard and am having minor connection issues. Occasionally it will have trouble connecting to the internet....IMO, the traffic gets stuck as it attempts to send requests through the non-internet connected line. Here's how I have it connected, running Windows XP: It has a Realtek ethernet jack which is LAN 1 on the Connections menu and that line is connected to the router for internet. Typical set-up that automatically assigns IP address and all other options. It also has a Marvell Yukon connection (LAN 2) that connects to the server so that I can use the networked printer. I've assigned an IP address within the range of the settings on that router. The printer works. Is there a way to direct all internet or web data through one card so that the connection doesn't get bogged down? The server has no internet connection so I don't want any internet requests to go through the Marvell Yukon ethernet jack.
