I have two ASA 5505's. One is currently setup as my firewall connected to the Cox Cable modem and wireless AP. I have another ASA that I would like to use, I have an idea that I could set that one up as a VPN unit, but not sure how I could do that. If that is not an option, can you provide the command line instructions on how to setup the VPN via the console cable. [code]

Here's the equipment I'm working with:
DLink DIR 615 wireless router
DLink DIR 515 wireless router
Motorola Surfboard cable modem S85101U
I plugged the DLink 615 in, set it up for DHCP client and plugged it into the cable modem. I lef the default 192.168.0.1 IP address for the device. On that router, I also reserved the 192.168.0.199 IP address and assigned it to the DLink 515.I also gave the DLink 515 device the IP 192.168.1.1 so I could administer it.I set the DLink 515 to static IP and made the IP 192.168.0.199 and the default gateway 192.168.0.1.I plugged the DLink 515 into one of the LAN ports in the DLink 615.I set a schedule on the DLink 615 to shut down internet access to the DLink 515 at a certain hour and turn it back on at another time.Everything seems to work ok, but at least once a day we have to unplug and plug the routers to reset them.
I have DOCSIS 3.0 modem and a Linksys E1000 wireless router with which I get reults from SpeedTest of 8.6 mps down, 1.57 mps up up from 15 mps service from cable provider. Connected to modem via ethernet cable produces 16.0 speeds. Do I need to upgrade the router or are my settings wrong?

It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.

The Cable ISP can ping the modem and gave me the IP address over the phone. I cannot ping the modem even when I take the router out of the loop. The network card (i1394) in the Laptop is functioning normally and I can see traffic on the modem (both the Cable Internet light and the PC activity light are flashing green) the ethernet port on the laptop is also flashing (amber). View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection.The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.

From there it connects to another router which connects to other clients from there i have another router with a VPN connection with other clients. I would like to be able to see everyone on the network. How do I setup the routers in particular the router with the vpn which is the last router. Also the vpn router is connected through its WAN port to the router ahead of it at its lan port so it can use its VPN connection.If it makes it easier lets ignore the cable modem as router and ill find the printer another way of connecting but essentially i need the two other routers for two ip addresses. One for the first router with my regular IP and then the other is for VPN IP.

When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.

We have two three switches behind the firewall. Today the uplink to Interface 1, to the firewall, on the switch went bad. I want to setup a second inside interface on the firewall and configure it as failover incase this happens again. I want to attach it to the other switch. Can I do this? If so, what do I need to do? would it only be a passive/standby interface?

I have a Pix 501 running 6.3 code sitting behind a cable modem. I use ip address outside dhcp setroute because I don't have a dedicated IP from my cable provider.
How do I configure the Pix to host VPN connections from my iPad when offsite? Since the outside interface is going to change, I can't configure a static IP.
I currently have a problem where I have to constantly reboot my ASA whenever my cable modem reboots. The ISP (Pen Tele Data) is setup so that my ASA has to obtain its' static IP using dhcp (ip address dhcp setroute) on the outside interface. Now, I also have another location with a cable connection (Comcast) that does NOT experience the same problem. However, the difference is this ISP allows me to assign my static IP directly on my outside interface. What can I do so that I don't have to reboot my first ASA everytime modem reboots.

I'm having trouble setting up the correct rules on an ASA 5505 I'm using in my home office. I have a couple of IP Cams I need to access remotely.
I've tried setting up simple NAT(PAT) and/or Access Rules, but it hasn't worked. I have a single dynamic IP for the Outside interface. Call it 77.76.88.10 and I am using PAT. The CAM is setup to connect on port 80, but could be configured if necessary. I've tried setting up NAT Rules using ASDM as follows:
Match Criteria: Original Packet
Source Intf = outside
Dest Intf = inside

I have been using static NAT to map between a single server behind an ASA 5505 and a single public IP address. In other words, I've been doing this:

Now I would like to start using the clientless VPN feature of the ASA, so I of course don't want that particular port forwarded to the server. Is there a way to define such an exclusion? I've tried several things, including setting up a separate NAT rule to direct that port back to the ASA's interface, without luck.
If that is not possible, what configuration would I need to move to in order to get the behavior that I want? It is important that all (non-VPN) traffic is passed exactly as it arrives at the firewall (whether it is coming from internal or external), with the exception of changing the IP address (i.e., I need static port mappings for some of my services).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to determine why Comcast Business Class modem configured with a static IP (IPV4) works with a laptop or Linksys Cable modem but not with a Cisco ASA 5505. After a few minutes, the 5505 stop passing web traffic. I am able to ping the default gateway even though I can not surf the web. Restarting the 5505 and the Comcast modem, web traffic flows for a short period of time, then stops. I can connect inside the firewall via ASDM 7.1.1 and via SSH. I can not connect via either from the outside. Comcast tech support indicated their router is working and is configured in bridge mode. I swapped out the 5505's memory, and then with another 5505. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. I am trying to determine if the 5505 or the Comcast router is not configured correctly.
Here are the parameters: The 5505 was reset to default factory settings via the command: config factory-default. Configured the outside interface with static IP Address followed by the no shutdown command, then removed DHCP features from outside interface. Added Comcast DNS servers, default route, ntp servers, configured DHCP features on the inside interface. Enabled HTTP/SSH (inside & outside interfaces) and ICMP echo-reply (outside only).
I believe the Comcast modem is not configured correctly. The show version and show startup output are below.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get a new IP from my ISP when my Cable modem router(EPC3925) is set to router mode, i have tried factory restore, unplugged etc..but still no luck. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?
