Cisco Firewall :: Reboot ASA 5505 Every Time Modem Reboots?
May 21, 2013
I currently have a problem where I have to constantly reboot my ASA whenever my cable modem reboots. The ISP (Pen Tele Data) is setup so that my ASA has to obtain its' static IP using dhcp (ip address dhcp setroute) on the outside interface. Now, I also have another location with a cable connection (Comcast) that does NOT experience the same problem. However, the difference is this ISP allows me to assign my static IP directly on my outside interface. What can I do so that I don't have to reboot my first ASA everytime modem reboots.
if I am XP and online, if I restart into Win7, I have to power cycle my modem before I can go online. If I then restart any number of times into Win7, there is no connections problem. If I then restart into XP, then I have to power cycle the modem again. If I then restart any number of times into XP, then there is no problem. If I then restart into Win7, then I have to power cycle the modem.
For a customer I have to move the ASA 5505 firewall to a new internet connection. I have modified the config in a notepad textfile and want to put it on flash or so, so that it will be loaded at next reboot.
I have a WS-C3560X-24 and attached to that are some 9 acces switches, for some weeks now my 3560 reboots some time what couse that the other 9 switches are down for some minuts as well and i dont want this of course. the reboot happens at random times and some times one week not and then like yesterday afternoon it rebooted again.
when i check the Flash directory there is no crash file and when i look at the logging its clean and just shows the startup. it's not the powersuply it's redundend and more L3 switches are attached to this power source and they dont reboot.

I've just confirmed that everytime I try to stream music from my MacBook Pro (iTunes) that is connected to my WiFi network using the 5GHz mode (channel width is Auto, channel: Auto (DFS)) to a couple Airport Express cubes are connected via the 2.4 GHz WiFi (channel width: Auto, channel: 10) the E4200 router reboots. When I set the MBP to use the 2.4 GHz mode I can stream music without causing the E4200 to reboot. The E4200 is running firmware 1.0.03.
My wife has an HP laptop running windows 7. when she opens a photo on her laptop , HP mediasmart photo software launches. At the same time , my DIR 655 router reboots knocking everybody off line until it comes back. It does this consistently whenever a photo is opened for viewing on the laptop. I have tried about everything I can think of but still cannot figure this one out. Is it Win7? HP? Dlink? all? both? I've tried defaulting my router and it still does it.
we have the issue that a new WLC 5508 has been installed in a new location. Unfortunaltelly we have no hands-on suopport on-site, so just remote connection. Now we figured that the service-port and management interfaces have to be reconfigured. In case we can not reach the WLC with the new configured interfaces it would be useful if the WLC reboots automatically after time x to reload the previouse working configuration. So the question is, is there a functionality to create a script which reboots the WLC automatically after time x?
I recently upgraded to Docsis 3.0 Routers Homenetworking Modem.Speeds are more than I am paying for when using WirelessOnly problem is. When I start a torrent in Bitcomet my whole modem will "disconnect".Including all the computers connected via Ethernet Cable.I have had the modem exchanged, same thing.I am not using a Router. The modem has wifi which I use.The modem stays online it's just that is loses its internet connection, I have had a technician over to see for him self, he didn't know what to do, he tried swapping the modem. Same thing.
I want to be able to gather some time metrics based on source IP, and destination port. Is it possiable to track how much time a user spends using a service based on it's port number. I have figured out how to capture all the data, and I can then look at timestamps, but I would like a better way if possible. Can this be done at the firewall, or do I need a different appliance?
I have 3 WAP321, all set to uk time zone, all the settings restore apart from the time, on reboot that defaults back to 1999 despite NTP server listed, interestingly have to manually reset time to present before NTP will update it.
I have a Cisco WRT120N Router and a Cisco Valet AM10 wireless adapter. Almost every time the computer reboots, I loose my network and I have to redo the AM10 setup. The AM10 is the only device that loses the connection, my lap top and printer do not lose the connection.
Problem 2: Everytime I upplug and replug the AM10 a window pops up saying I need to check the drive for errors but none are found.
Problem 3: I downloaded the AM10 install program, Downloadable.Setup.AM10.1.2.10148.2. It does not work. If I try to run it Iget an error message that the setup canot be completed and to call in for support.
Problem 4: When I can get it working is shows that it is Wireless Connection 5. Why 5 and not 1? Where are the other 4?
i have a cisco 1900 series router from the isp and we connect it the our router the rv042 small biz, and we have here a cisco catalyst 2950 switch with just default configuration connected to the hosts.
my problem is from time to time that the connection is lost there is no connection with the router and the only solution is to turn off and on the cisco 1900 router and the connection will be back.
do we need to configure the routers and switches? what do you need to configure?
I have two ASA 5505's. One is currently setup as my firewall connected to the Cox Cable modem and wireless AP. I have another ASA that I would like to use, I have an idea that I could set that one up as a VPN unit, but not sure how I could do that. If that is not an option, can you provide the command line instructions on how to setup the VPN via the console cable. [code]
My modem decides to lose connection at odd hours/times, resulting in the need to restart it. So far my only solution is to manually do that. But, the modem is located in my roommates room who has different sleeping hours than I do. We have tried relocating it but it really doesn't connect then. Anyway, I have my laptop (Windows 7) and access my Netgear router to my Motorola modem supplied by Time Warner Cable. Under normal conditions I can connect to the Surfboard page for the modem and reboot it that way. But, when the connection is dropped, I can not access the modem page via 192.168.100.1. How can I 'remotely' reboot my modem so as not to disturb my roommate?
we just bought brand new Cisco ASA 5510.We are using it in transparent mode, only for firewalling. But we have problems... This device reboots itself several times in day. Actually throughput is around 5 Mb/s and connection number is around 200.
Nearly every morning/evening I have to re-boot my router to get internet access. Netgear N300 ADSL2+ modem router Model DGN 2200 (had about a year), Windows 7 64bit Home premium Laptop connected wirelessly, Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium desktop connected by LAN cable. ISP BT Internet. Until recently this set up has been working OK with occasional loss of interent access and need to re-boot router. The internet light has been showing red on those occasions. Over the last two weeks I have found that when I turn one of computers on although all lights on router are green I have no internet access. I have to re-boot, then all is OK until the next day when I have to re-boot again. My phone line appears OK with no noise on line, no reported problems on BT broadband staus. The thing that puzzles me is that the lights are all green on the router yet my networking icon on the pc shows an exclammation mark and 'no internet access' and I do not have access to net.The wireless connection is OK with excellent strength.
I'm running a couple of 5520 (with failover configuration) and fw 8.3.1. Everything worked fine until I try to upgrade firewall to new fw version: 8.4.1. [code]
When I try to upload new firrmware or asdm image, ASA, the appliance reboots during tftp session. I've already tried to upload new images on both appliance, or use CLI either ASDM, but the result is always the same: ASA reboots.
From my point of view, the problem isn't the image but could be the firmware I'm running, becouse using fw. 8.0.1 I was able to upalod asdm 8.3.1, but using fw 8.3.1 I can't upload the same image.
I have a PC that is connected to LAN network and I have USB 3g Modem when i try to connect them both my pc use only ether LAN or Modem what should i do to make them both work at same time? Running windows 7 64x
My laptop connected to the LAN for internal access, the LAN is limited access ( limited permission for internet connection), so I bought USB Modem. But when i connect to USB modem I lose my internal connection. ( I want to use LAN for internal access and USB Modem for Internet access at the same time)
I need my ASA 5505 to support ESP-AES-128-SHA on 2 dynamic clients, one with PFS and another without PFS. I add 2 dynamic maps like this. [code] Now the client without PFS can be connected, but the one with PFS cannot. How can I set the dynamic maps so that they can support both clients at the same time?
I have a smc wireless cable modem gateway router lease is set to expire every 7 days does it matter if its like more often, is this good enough, i was told every day might be better as i get better connection.
I have two sites that each have asa 5505's and each have dual ISP's. Currently I'm using sla monitor to failover to the secondary line when there is a detected outage. After this sla failover occurs which seems to be instant, secondary ISP re-establishes the VPN. This process takes about 30 seconds. My thought is that the side which is healthy does not detect the outage due to a preset amount of timeouts and thats where this 30 second delay comes in to re-negotiate the VPN tunnel. can I create a smaller window of time to heartbeat between the two so that the VPN outagage is detected in around 5-10
I usually put some stuff up for downloading and go to sleep. Now I setup my computer to auto-shutdown at a particular time via cmd, but I want o know whether it is possible for me to put some time settings in my modem+router so that it switches off at a particular time or something like that. Then when I get up next morning, start using it again. I don't want to keep my router on after it's not needed. Also I don't wanna keep it vulnerable after it's not needed, even though I have set it up quite securely. ( WPA2 PSK, and MAC filtering)
Lately I've been experiencing connection problems between my router and cable modem. Every night after 11:00 PM EST, my Internet connection sporadically goes out. I called my ISP who said there was nothing wrong on their end. Plugging directly into my modem allows me to access the Internet. When I wake up in the morning, the connection is back until 11 or later again. I ran WireShark but I'm not sure what to be looking for. There are a lot of random things from the LLMNR protocol like standard query A zmtvrjaql.

The TL-MR3220 takes a long time to identify the 3g modem and sometimes it will not identify it at all and says "unplugged". Sometimes "unplugged" suddenly apears after the modem has been identified and was working properly. Is this the normal behavior of this device ? Why ? What can be done ? I'm Using Alcatel X500D 3g modem.
So I just got hooked up to the internet via qwest the other day with my room mate. We have a wireless modem (PK5000) and he's using the AE2500 usb adapter to get online. Now, he can get online, but if he ever turns off or sleeps his computer, he can't connect when he turns it back on. His computer can see the network, full signal, but when he tries to connect it says cannot connect and under troubleshoot options suggests we should move his computer closer to the modem, but its only about 20 feet away and shows full signal. To get it to work, we need to go into the modem config and reset the wireless options. No changes are made, just scroll to the bottom and click apply, and presto change he can connect with no problems. He's running windows 7 home edition 64 bit. The modem's security is WPA/WPA2.
On our ASA 5510 we have two security contexts. After opening ASDM I can see and manage admin context, but cannot see second context. I can do changes to second context via CLI but as probably you know it's easier and quicker doing it via ASDM.
