When I use ASDM or the CLI to copy (ftp) files from my management station to flash on my ASA5520. I get to 99% and then the gui or cli window hangs.
The ASA itself completely freezes i.e. no traffic in or out until I kill the transfer window and then it may reboot
[and yes, there is more than enough free space on the flash file system for the files]

When I try and copy files from my Windows 7 Home PC to my Windows Server 2003 share, it copies so much then hangs the Server sharing. It then appears that the share has disappeared. If I copy from the Server 2003 to 7, it copies fine, and copying from XP to 2003 also works fine. I had a chat with a colleague who told me that he has the same problem copying from Vista to XP.

I first though of a flash problem and did a flash erase in ROMMON, then it brought error 15 during boot (No images found in / Error 15: File not found). I then TFTPied and image from Rommon, when done loading the image and start booting, the system hangs and nothing else. Attached is the screen I got on my console during boot up. BTW, the system was in the same state before I undertook any of the above actions. I don't have a service contract, so I can't contact TAC.

My parents bought a new computer today. My mom called me up today and asked me if I could transfer some stuff from the old computer to the new computer. I do not have a flash drive or an external hard drive, or jump drive.etc. So I was hoping I could just connect the two computers with an ethernet cable, and create a network.
Is this possible, or do you need additional equipment. I do not have a router, so if I create a network it has to be done with wires. So is it possible to create a network with nothing but an ethernet cable? Or is there another way I can get my moms i tunes transferred over?
I need to upgrade the ASA 5520 from OS 8.2(5)26 to 8.2(5)33. the ASA only has 64M of flash. I have a 256M flash card. What are the steps to upgrade the flash? I am not sure how it will boot up because the new flash will be blank?

I'm preparing for an upgrade to version 7.25(4), so I transferred the software code (obtained via Cisco download) to the firewall vis SCP. I then issued the "verify flash:asa725-k8.bin" and it fails. It comes back with the error that the CRC did not verify, Data Integrity has been compromised". My first thought was the image did not copy correctly, so I deleted it and transferred it again. I got the same error. Then I decided to run a verify against the actual current code that was running on the firewall, and it came back with the same error. I don't understand what the problem is. I don't tend to think it's an SSH key related problem, as the method I use to access the firewall is via SSH and I have no problems. Worth noting,this firewall is part of an active/standby pair, and I observe the same behavior on the failover unit, it fails to verify.

What is the difference between user and system compact flash? and for upgrade can I just insert the user compact flash or do I need to upgrade the system compact flash? Where can I find the part number for each type?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on a small business network. 8-10 computers, usually only 3-4 being used at any one time. I'm trying to improve network file transfer speeds between the local machines and a network READYNAS NV+. There are both 32 and 64 bit OS's in play. Between the READYNAS and the local machines are two non-managed switches (jumbo frames capable) and a patch panel. The cable from the READYNAS goes into the first switch, then out of that into the patch panel then into the second switch, and then out to several local machines.
Though i would love to improve performance to all the local machines, I am primarily concerned with one in particular. It has Windows 7 64 bit and an onboard Broadcom Netlink Gigabit network adapter. This device does NOT have a Jumbo frames option in the advanced settings. Here's the issue: When copying files from the READYNAS the upload speed is only 16mbps (jumbo frames enabled on the READYNAS) if I turn jumbo frames off on the READYNAS the upload speed drops to 9mbps. Just FYI, this is a photography studio and the files are always LARGE.
I have several questions that hopefully will lead to an illuminating discussion. 1) Is it possible that the universal patch is in any way a problem? Sorry if that is totally stupid, but I've never encountered one before. I understand routers and switches, but this patch thing is new to my experience. 2) Is having two switches a bottleneck? 3) Is it possible that the onboard Broadcom network adapter is junk? Why doesn't it have jumbo frames options? 4) Could I get better performance from an add on network card in a PCI-E slot and a couple of managed switches?I realize I'm all over the map here. Bottom line, I've got a small network situation here. Very simple, uncomplicated layout. All I want is better read/write performance to a single READYNAS NV+ to a handful of local machines. If I need to settle, I can live with better performance to the one single machine. 16mbps just seems tragically slow.
I have a HTPC running XP and a Media Player connected on the same wired network. I also have a Win7 laptop connected to the same network over Wifi.
From the laptop I want to send files between the HTPC and Media player on the wired network however if I drag and drop or use the "send to" option they are sent via the wirelss laptop which is very slow.
Am I missing a trick how can I send files directly between the 2 devices?
I was using my laptop - working in MS Word and hadn't even opend a internet browser and suddently a command prompt appears and all i managed to see before closing it from the task manager (which had it running through internet explorer i think) was that it was copying files.Its a work laptop so i would like to know if it was remote access from IT which seems doubtful on a Sunday or if i need to be concerned about security. Is there a relatively easy (considering i have zero programming experience) way for me to check if anyone logged on with remote access and who and what files were copied?

I have a public Ftp server and when i ever i transfer the zipped files more than 50 MB or 70 MB or more than that, it fails. I used to upload by clicking the ftp site and copy past the file to the location. After a certain point of time, the download fails with the below error on the explorer.An error occured copying a file to the FTP server. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two mac laptops and am trying to copy a directory with a number of PDFs in it. The files aren't particularly large, but there are many of them. At some point in the process the router stops and must be turned off and on before it will respond again either wirelessly or wired. I have tried the same experiment with both devices wired and the router works fine. I have tried changing the MTU, channel, beacon setting, etc. as other forum posts have tried. I tried reflashing the firmware, resetting to factory defaults and reconfiguring. So far no success. Cisco support wants me to return the router. Frankly I'm at the point of considering the former Linksys/Cisco products complete rubbish. I am going to have to buy a new router even if I return this one since I can't be without a router for any length of time.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to install a 512 MB Cisco COmpact Flash for an ASA 5520. We have inserted the compact flash but when we do a DIR, it does not show. even as an unformatted device.
What do we need to do to make this a usable CF? Do I just need to reload the ASA or do I need to format the CF. It has been inserted into the slot in the back of the ASA 5520 and we have ensured that is had been seated properly.
I have multiple site-to-site vpns using ASAs 5510 and 5520, tunnels were configured 3-4 years ago, and all these 3-4 years one vpn tunnel hangs until I clear isakmp sa peer. When I say hangs, I mean I can see the tunnel is UP and MM_ACTIVE with sh crypto isakmp sa, but I can not ping the remote subnets. When I clear the tunnel, it somes up again and communication is successful.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've a Cisco 5550 which hangs on powering up and stays at " Booting System, please wait..." forever and it has a flashing green Status LED.
The steps I've taken so far are:
1. Consoled with a different computer and tried to send the break signals (didn't work)
2. Open up the unit tried to remove the RAM's and reseated them again.
3. Taken out the CMOS battery on the board and replaced it with the new one (no luck still)
What is the next step, or shall I assume that the unit is dead.
we just bought brand new Cisco ASA 5510.We are using it in transparent mode, only for firewalling.But we have problems... This device reboots itself several times in day. Actually throughput is around 5 Mb/s and connection number is around 200.

The ATA flash card was formated successfully, however I cannot copy the system image to it so that it can boot after a power loss.
The command I tried was: console(enabled) copy sup-bootflash: slot0:
The source filename was typed in as shown in the Show Verison command.The result was: Error opening slot0: no such device.I suspect that I am missing something obvious as I am new to Cisco Switches.
