D-Link DIR-615 :: Setup Two Wireless Networks On One Comcast Cable Modem?

Apr 7, 2013

We have kids in the house and I'd like to limit their internet access to certain times of the day but because of the great amount of devices they use (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) the only way I could think of doing that easily was to set up two wireless networks: one that the adults could use 24/7 and the other that the kids could access during certain set hours.

Here's the equipment I'm working with:

DLink DIR 615 wireless router
DLink DIR 515 wireless router
Motorola Surfboard cable modem S85101U

I plugged the DLink 615 in, set it up for DHCP client and plugged it into the cable modem. I lef the default IP address for the device. On that router, I also reserved the IP address and assigned it to the DLink 515.I also gave the DLink 515 device the IP so I could administer it.I set the DLink 515 to static IP and made the IP and the default gateway plugged the DLink 515 into one of the LAN ports in the DLink 615.I set a schedule on the DLink 615 to shut down internet access to the DLink 515 at a certain hour and turn it back on at another time.Everything seems to work ok, but at least once a day we have to unplug and plug the routers to reset them.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610n 2 Networks From 1 Comcast ISP Cable Modem

Jan 12, 2010

I have a need to have 2 seperate networks from my comcast cable modem.I was hoping to plug a 5 port hub into the cable modem and then plug both the wrt610n and the wrt54g into the hub. Seem that only one of the routers will get an ip assigned from Comcast. Is there a way to have one ISP cable modem and create two different home networks with the two linksys routers, thus two separate independent networks?
-Network 1: public household use and family (Jane's wireless laptop, household PC's etc).

-Network 2: private household/company use and separate from the public family network (company wireless laptop/company PC, un-secure media server).

Cable Modem From Comcast - Unable To Add Additional Port?

Jul 24, 2012

Our small business just moved into a new building and I am in charge of setting up the network infrastructure. I am not new to computers or networking but I have never had to deal with this set up before.

Our current set up.We have a cable modem from comcast that has the Coax cable connected to it.The modem has 4 ports on it. The ports are connected to a built in 24 port switch that was already in the building. The switch has it's ports connected to outlets in the walls. Currently we have 4 computers on our network and since the cable modem had 4 ports it worked fine.

What we need? We will have another person join our office so I will need to activate one additional port on the switch that already exists. However, since all 4 ports on the modem are already taken, I have no way to add an additional port. They also want us to get wifi in the building. How I think I have to solve the problem (most likely wrong).I have to get another switch (like 8 port) and connect the cable modem to the switch using a cross over cable (if there is no designated internet port). Since I have the modem connected to the switch, I will have to move the 3 remaining connections to the switch.

Then I connect the 4 remaining ports on the switch to the existing 24-port switch that is already there. I will use one of the outlets in the building to connect an AP for Wi-Fi for better signal. Currently the modem and switches are hidden in a closet away from the office space and would mess up the signal.

ASUS AC66 Router Plugged Into Comcast Cable Modem

May 27, 2013

I've got a ASUS AC66 router plugged into my Comcast cable modem (regular dumb modem), it's running the Merlin (OEM-modified) firmware.I've got a Netgear 3400 router flashed with DD-WRT (latest build), it's a replacement for another N router that died on me.

Anyways, I went to set client bridge like always. Main router is so I set DD-WRT router as, set the wireless modes to client bridge with matching SSIDs for my 2.4/5GHz radios, input the correct security keys on the security page (AES), then I put the router in router mode (from gateway) Basically, I followed the instructions on DD-WRT's website, which worked perfectly until the other router died.

This time around as soon as the DD-WRT router reboots with its bridge information saved it immediately causes some sort of conflict on my network and kills the internet and all network connections. All devices lose their IP address. It's like the DD-WRT router is somehow shutting down the network and my default router.

D-Link :: DIR 615 - Comcast Thomson Modem With VOIP

May 28, 2010

Life was great with my DIR-615 and Motorola Surf Board SB-5100 cable modem, but my D-Link refuses to recognize the Internet signal from the Thomson.  The Comcast guy spent an hour trying to get it to work, but I'm stuck watching MLB.tv on a 24" monitor in a stiff office chair in my study, instead of on a 47" LCD in my living room.  How can I force the DIR-615 to accept the Thomson ACG905?  If you advise me to check settings or manually change them, please do not "assume" that I know how to access those settings.

Aug 17, 2012

I have an ARRIS Docsys3 modem from Comcast which has a built in WiFi router. I also have a DIR-655. The Modem is in my office and I have a 100' Ethernet cable running through my attic to my front room where the dir-655 is located.

I use the DIR for WiFi as well I have it connected to my TV and Xbox.I use the ARRIS Modem for WiFi as well I have it connected to another Xbox and a Desktop computer.I want to have everything on 1 network, Dir-655 uses IP address and the ARRIS uses ranges I want to be able to connect to the dir-655 and have the IP for that connection join up with the 10.0.0... network so that I will be able to transfer files freely throughout the network.

I want everything on one network. Right now when I connect a laptop to the DIR-655, I can not access the printer that is connected to the Desktop on the ARRIS modem. I have to connect to the ARRIS modems WiFi to then use the printer on the desktop.Likewise, I want to use the media extender on the Xbox connected to the DIR-655 with the Desktop connected the the ARRIS modem, but I can not because of the to different networks.

Two Separate Networks On One Cable Modem

Feb 5, 2012

We are a small office currently running a regular network (9 wired, 2 wireless) and also using the "guest" feature (7 wireless) on a Linksys E2000. We have a switch to connect our wired equipment to the E2000. If "A" is our regular network, and "B" is our guest network, is it possible to have 2 routers on 1 cable modem and still prevent network "A" from seeing Network "B" and vice versa?? We are looking to do this because we will soon be exceeding the maximum guest users (10) allowed by the E2000. We have another Linksys router in storage, I think it is a WRT54G, that we would use if this is possible.

Motorola VT2442 Router / SB6121 Cable Modem - Connecting Two Networks?

Apr 22, 2012

I have a 192.168.1.xxx network connected to Verizon FIOS via Actiontec MOCA / router. I also have a 192.168.15.xxx network connected to Comcast via Motorola VT2442 router (used for Vonage) and a Motorola SB6121 cable modem.

Each network has it's own gigabit switch connected to each router. The two networks are physically separated but switches and routers are physically side by side.

What is the best configuration to allow devices on 192.168.1.xxx network to communicate with devices on the 192.168.15.xxx network (share printers, NAS, etc), but still have each network served by it's respective ISP, and each device still get it's dhcp, dns, gateway, etc from each respective router?

Mar 29, 2013

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WR841ND
Hardware Version : V8
Firmware Version :
ISP : optimum online
I have two wireless routers:
TP Link TL-WR841ND
TP Link TL-WR541G

I would like to:

use the TL-WR541G for my children wireless laptop, wireless ipad and wireless iphones.
I can turn this unit off at a specific time each evening as I wish.

The WR841ND is used for my wireless laptop, wired iMac, wired Roku stream player and wired Voip adapter.

I tried a few things but really do not know what I am doing and I cannot get both wireless routers to access the internet.

What I tried so far:

Cable modem ethernet out to the input on the WR841ND router. took one of the four hardwire outputs from the WR841ND and ran into the input on the WR541G I powered on the cable modem....it booted... i then powered each router up and waited for each to boot. I launched web browser and navigated to : this allowed me to setup the WR841ND router.

it's current settings:
Firmware Version: 3.13.27 Build 121101 Rel.38183n
Hardware Version: WR841N v8 00000000
WAN type: dynamic IP
LAN IP address:
subnet mask:
DHCP Server: enabled
Start IP:
End IP:

How do I set up the second router? I tried to disable the DHCP server on router 2 (WR541g) and change the IP but don't know what to change it to.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Motorola SB6141 Link Speed LED On Cable Modem Never Glows Blue

Feb 26, 2013

when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed.  I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.

When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.

I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.

I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.

Comcast Netgear WNR1000 Modem Won't Work

I tried to go on the Netgear website and they tell me that I have to be able to connect to the internet to download through the router. Well I can't do that because obviously that is the hangup. If I click on my Network Connections. It shows my computer connected to a Network with limited capability and then a big red X going to the internet.

Comcast Modem To Support 2 Ethernet Pcs And Wifi

Jan 17, 2012

Just got home from the Comcast store with a $7 rented modem just to last me until I do research and purchase one. I realize that this modem has only one Ethernet port with no WiFi support so I have another PC and a laptop sitting idle because there's no internet access. Did a quick search using Comcast's authorized modem's list and all of them only have a single Ethernet port and no WiFi. Is there a modem with multiple Ethernet ports with built in WiFi? I am getting almost 20mbps with a download speed of 4mb/s which is a HUGE improvement over my ATT DSL service that I've had since forever at 3mbps with a download speed of 300kb/s. I have no idea what technical specifications to look for in a cable modem to get 100% of full potential speed from my service without disconnects or other various problems.

I have a ATT U-Verse router sitting here right now, I am wondering if I can somehow connect it to my Comcast modem. I tried to connect the ATT router into Comcast modem via Ethernet cable, but I couldn't get past the "Your DSL service is unavailable" in the browser, but in my desktop system tray, it shows I am connected to the internet. If I could use this router, I would rather spend money on a modem instead of getting a combo.

D-Link DIR-655 :: How To Access DSL Modem Setup Pages

Apr 16, 2011

I would like to be able to access my DSL Modem's http setup screens from my networked computers via my DIR-655 (rev B) router - but I do not know how to get the router to route to the WAN port.

At first, I had my DSL Modem's LAN IP at and my DIR-655 at and the rest of my home network at 192.168.1.xxx; because I had read on a forum that having the modem on a different subnet prevented potential routing problems.  When I pointed my web browser to - it would just timeout (I kind of expected that).

Now (willing to try anything), I have my DSL Modem's LAN IP at and my DIR-655 at and the rest of my home network at 192.168.0.xxx (DHCP range is set to assign hosts from 64 to 254).  When I point my web browser to - it still just times out.

The DSL Modem is setup in transparent bridge mode.  And everything else is working well with the home network.

How can I get the DIR-655 to pass/route my http connection to the DSL modem?

TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless :: Comcast May Have Destroyed TL-WR1043ND

Mar 28, 2013

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WR1043ND
Hardware Version : V1
ISP : Comcast

I'm sort of used to everything failing every 2 days when a new device shows up due to the DHCP timeout issue that I've posted a workaround to. However, after rebooting everything, NOTHING worked. At all.I could get to the Admin page too.The DHCP address to my Comcast modem was etc.The TP-Link "Detect" feature started saying Comcast was issuing me a "Static IP" instead of "Dynamic".Now, I can get an address from the Modem to my PC.So I cloned the PC's MAC ID.If I reboot the TP-Link 5 or 6 times, it might pick up the Comcast IP once, but no routing happens to the internet.I did try putting the static IP address into the TP-Link to see if I could fake it into getting online temporarily, but no.

And... after hours of troubleshooting last night, the router will not hand out DHCP addressed to any LAN equipment any longer either.Even, if I plugged in my laptop (which worked on the Comcast modem), the IP address it received from the TP-Link was the Comcast Public IP!Not a NATed / DHCP IP address! so I Factory Reset the TP-Link via the Admin page AND via a paper clip at least 4x.There were also no thunderstorms. Both the router and the modem are on a UPS / surge protector. The house is not (usually) haunted.I did try the new Beta firmware but that didn't fix anything.I also "upgraded" to DD-WRT.
