Setup Cable Modem / Router With Printer Attached To One Of LAN Ports?
Jan 25, 2012
Im trying to setup a cable modem which is also a router that has a printer attached to one of its lan ports. From there it connects to another router which connects to other clients from there i have another router with a VPN connection with other clients. I would like to be able to see everyone on the network. How do I setup the routers in particular the router with the vpn which is the last router. Also the vpn router is connected through its WAN port to the router ahead of it at its lan port so it can use its VPN connection. If it makes it easier lets ignore the cable modem as router and ill find the printer another way of connecting but essentially i need the two other routers for two ip addresses. One for the first router with my regular IP and then the other is for VPN IP.
I have a WAG160N wireless gateway . Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?
I've been having problems with the router portion of my cable modem router. I have a brand new router that I would like to use rather than the crappy router that is part of the cable modem. The problem is that I'm not able to get online no matter how I set the settings. I have disabled DHCP in the cable modem router and am connecting this to the router thru the internet port of the router.
I have one interface setup to a Cisco 2921 router connected to a Cable modem.DHCP is on the 2921.when I connect to the ssid for my guest i'm redirected to the authentification portal 1.1.1.1 .i'm putting valide credential and when pressing the submit button .. it just go anywhere.
I have setup another SSID with a psk and it's working fine.. getting ip and able to browse internet. From what i have read... it's apparently DNS issue on my router.. but what should I check.
So i have recently upgraded my internet connection and was not gettting my advertised speeds, i called charter and they said to hook directly to my modem and i reluctantly agreed thinking nothing would change, man was i wrong! I use two sites to test, one was speedtest.net and here is the result:
I recently switched from dsl to cable. I have a e2000 router that I would still like to use. The modem I have is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.
how to setup and connect two RV082 routers together with a crossover cable between their WAN ports. This is to connect two separate LANS together via an ethernet connection. For staging we are setting everything up with a crossover cable in our shop. Ultimately the crossover cable will be replaced by a microwave link between the two LANS several miles apart. There will be no internet connection.
I have recently purchased an SG-300-52 Managed Switch. (This is the first managed switch I have used, so I am trying to figure out what I can do with it and how it works.)
I would like to know how to find out the IP address of each computer connected to each port of the switch. Is this possible and if so how can I do this from the browser interface?
I can't seem to setup my WAG120N modem.I kept on getting the error "your ethernet cable does not appear to be connected properly" even though I have connected all the cables correctly. I can access the modem through the browser via 192.168.1.1 though.I thought the setup is supposed to be simple but I have wasted few hours.
We have kids in the house and I'd like to limit their internet access to certain times of the day but because of the great amount of devices they use (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) the only way I could think of doing that easily was to set up two wireless networks: one that the adults could use 24/7 and the other that the kids could access during certain set hours.
Here's the equipment I'm working with:
DLink DIR 615 wireless router DLink DIR 515 wireless router Motorola Surfboard cable modem S85101U
I plugged the DLink 615 in, set it up for DHCP client and plugged it into the cable modem. I lef the default 192.168.0.1 IP address for the device. On that router, I also reserved the 192.168.0.199 IP address and assigned it to the DLink 515.I also gave the DLink 515 device the IP 192.168.1.1 so I could administer it.I set the DLink 515 to static IP and made the IP 192.168.0.199 and the default gateway 192.168.0.1.I plugged the DLink 515 into one of the LAN ports in the DLink 615.I set a schedule on the DLink 615 to shut down internet access to the DLink 515 at a certain hour and turn it back on at another time.Everything seems to work ok, but at least once a day we have to unplug and plug the routers to reset them.
I have two ASA 5505's. One is currently setup as my firewall connected to the Cox Cable modem and wireless AP. I have another ASA that I would like to use, I have an idea that I could set that one up as a VPN unit, but not sure how I could do that. If that is not an option, can you provide the command line instructions on how to setup the VPN via the console cable. [code]
I have a small home LAN of four hard-wired PCs and two iPads and two notebooks which are connected by wireless. At the heart of it all is a Linksys X3000 wireless router. Any of the four PCs that are hard wired to the X3000 have no problems talking to each other but none of the wireless-attached iPads or notebooks are able to see any other machine on the network. All machines are able to access the Internet.
I am having issue consoling into Cisco 3560V2 using console cable attached to USB to serial adapter.using putty.when i try to login on the putty i only see black screen.
I can't get a new IP from my ISP when my Cable modem router(EPC3925) is set to router mode, i have tried factory restore, unplugged etc..but still no luck. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?
I have a cable modem installed to my property but want to use my modem/router to go wireless. The proble is my cable modem output is a RJ45 and the router input is RJ11.
I'm switching to cable internet service instead of DSL. My Netgear router will not work with my cable modem; but it works like a charm with my DSL modem. Is it a problem with the router setup? Good thing I still have the DSL service.
I am considered as a novice when it comes to networking, modems/routers etc.I have a Belkin Modem/Router, I need ports TCP 80, 2300 and UDP 2310 I think to be forwarded so I can play a certain game online (Age of Empires 3). I have tried DMZ mode for my pc and I can play the game online but only with DMZ enabled. Just some extra info.Belkin Modem/Router model : F5D7634-4A-H v2 (on the device)F5D7634-4-H v2 (01) (on the online settings (192.168.2.1))It has the latest firmware as I have clicked on the firmware update and it says "There is no new firmware update available for this Router!"
I am trying to setup my printer using the USB port on the router. I installed the share-port utility 32bit and every time i try to connect to the printer from my desktop the computer crashes and i get a blue screen.
I just want to open up a few ports for Age of Empires 3 but no matter what I do the ports still stay closed.I have a Belkin F6D4630-4 v2 modem/router (firmware updated to 2.00.25) and I use https:[url].... to check my ports.
I've forwarded the ports 2300-2310 in my router (both TCP and UDP) using the 'virtual servers' thing.
I've disabled windows firewall.
I've disabled my AVG antivirus.
I've disabled and enabled this thing to see if it would make a difference: "UPNP Enabling:
Allows you to turn the UPNP feature of the Router on or off. If you use applications that support UPnP, enabling UPnP will allow these applications to automatically configure the router." When I probe the ports from 2280 to 2330 using the Gibson research website, the ports I forwarded (2300-2310) say 'closed' and the others say 'stealth'. Why do they say CLOSED and not OPEN? There shouldn't be anything blocking those ports.
When I probe the ports from 2280 to 2330 with windows firewall ON, all of them say 'stealth', even though I've added those ports to the windows firewall exceptions.I just want those ports to say "OPEN" so I can join all games on Age of Empires 3 instead of coming up with the message "Failed to join game".
this router of my girlfriends only works when iplug the dsl modem into the output ports what could possibly cause this. would a firmware upgrade straighten it out...
i just bought an HP Officejet 4500 wireless all-in-one printer. i imagined this would mean that my laptop can print to the printer without a USB cable, but also that the printer itself would not have to "cable" to anything, but rather be wireless and located anywhere in the house. was i wrong? does this printer HAVE to connect physically with the router box?
I have a printer (epson cx6600) I wanted to connect to our router here so everyone can print to it. It only has a usb connector (which you would typically connect to your pc)... I did notice they have usb to lan cables out there and was going to buy one and connect it to the router that way.
How do I setup a WRT160N as a wireless adapter to connect a wireless printer to my network? I do not use the wrt 160 as a router because I have an AT&T router for u-verse connection. Also, I physically cannot wire the printer to the main router (opposite corners of the house).
At home I have a D Link DSL-2640R wireless adsl router/modem in my downstairs office.I would like to use the cable which goes to upstairs of the house to link to some sort of extra router or switch in order to provide more network ports upstairs.
I brought a router TP-LINK TL-WR741ND . I have an usb modem which has no other port as lan . I have only one ethernet lan controller which is integrated .Now With the mentioned device above can i setup my router , so i can use the internet on other wifi device.
I want to be able to connect my Canon MX700 printer via ethernet cable to my Linksys Router - WRT54G2, with the ultimate goal of having only the printer and router on, and able to print wirelessly from my iPad, MacBook and/or iPhone.

Just finished the setup for Canon MP780 USB printer to work with EA4500. Printer goes online only while it prints the pages. When I try to scan the document with MP Navigator it cannot communicate with the scanner as printer is essentially offline. How to setup the printer in order to perform the scan of the documents?
I have a pc running windows 7 connected to a broadband modem. From that modem I have a LAN cable running to another building plugging into a wifi router. I have 2 pcs running xp plugged into this wifi router. (they can see each other)Is it possible for the 3 pcs to see each other on the network? The only way I got it to work was if all pcs were connected to the same modem. However to save running super long cables for each pc I want to run just one between the modems and then plug all pcs into that wifi modem which is close to everything.
