I am having issue consoling into Cisco 3560V2 using console cable attached to USB to serial adapter.using putty.when i try to login on the putty i only see black screen.

My PC has no serial port and I am unable to use the provided cable to connect to the firewall appliance. Is there software that can allow serial over my PC's Ethernet? I really don't have time to order a serial card for my PC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had the switch for about 2 years and recently moved. The manual specifies:
38400 bps and 8-n-1 serial port settings using DB9F to DB9F cable.
I have done this and tried using multiple machines/ports/cables as well as several peices of software (minicom, PuTTy, hyperterminal) and none give me any output from the switch at all.
The trouble is that in its original config, it had 1 port locked into its own VLAN for management with port security and an obscure RFC1918 IP address which I cannot recall for the life of me.
At this point, I have no access to TCP/IP management so serial console is my last hope and is not working.
I have a WAG160N wireless gateway . Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?
I have some 2620 routers and 2950 switches that have Console Ports that are serial. However my HP PC w.Win 7 dosent have any serial ports. I am looking for a USB to Serial converter that will allow me to access the console ports so I can configure these devices. I've read many old posts and still havent found a solution. Is it true that none of these cables work? Anything that will work on XP? (also have XP PC's).How about a RJ45 to Serial?? How about a PCI Serial card? I cant believe Cisco hasnt developed a conversion cable to use with their Console Cables?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm trying to setup a cable modem which is also a router that has a printer attached to one of its lan ports. From there it connects to another router which connects to other clients from there i have another router with a VPN connection with other clients. I would like to be able to see everyone on the network. How do I setup the routers in particular the router with the vpn which is the last router. Also the vpn router is connected through its WAN port to the router ahead of it at its lan port so it can use its VPN connection.If it makes it easier lets ignore the cable modem as router and ill find the printer another way of connecting but essentially i need the two other routers for two ip addresses. One for the first router with my regular IP and then the other is for VPN IP.

Any of the four PCs that are hard wired to the X3000 have no problems talking to each other but none of the wireless-attached iPads or notebooks are able to see any other machine on the network. All machines are able to access the Internet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop that does not have a Serial port or a Break key on the keyboard. I have a Prolific PL2303 USB-to-Serial adapter which is installed and I can access the CLI ok with this setup via HyperTerminal.
My problem is that I am unable to break into ROMMON using the break sequence Ctrl + Break (as there is no break key). I have also tried TeraTerm with the break sequence of Alt + B.
Additionally, I have tried setting the baud rate to 2600 and pressing the space bar for 10 seconds to no avail.
when I may need to break into ROMMON.
Is there a Port Adapter (PA) with Synchronous/Asynchronous Serial Ports, for Cisco 7200?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my vpn concentrator. I cannot access it through console, I have tried every baud rate that is available on my SecureCrt but it won't display anything. At first, I thought that my console cable is defective but I was able to access a WLC via console cable together with the rj45 to db9 converter. I also tried connecting the vpn concentrator to a switch and enable the cdp in the switch but the "show cdp neighbor" can't detect or display the vpn concentrator even if the interface status is "up up". Is it safe to say that the VPN concentrator is already broken?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an old cisco 831 for practical studies for a cisco certification. I purchased the console cable (serial/rj45) and a usb->serial converter cable. However when I open my terminal application (tera term) After I select the right com port (3) and make sure the connection settings are right. It will just sit idle and not show any data from the device. Was I sold a faulty device? It lights up and has three lights on.
Everytime I look at a manual or cisco video I am given the impression the terminal application will just automatically connect. But whenever I try I get nothing.
I cannot connect to the Cisco 2801 with console cable. what to do ?

So I have read about proper procedure involving the connection between a console cable and Hyper-terminal. I have also tried plugging into a network port to obtain an IP Address but nothing seems to work. When powering on the switch I see that it lights up, hear fans spin and assume it has booted properly. I'm using Hyperterminal on Windows Xp Pro SP3 and I've also tried minicom in Fedora.
And just FYI Hyperterminal was set to the proper:
Bits per second: 38400
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None
I have 6 of these WS-CBS3012-IBM modules that need to be configured but I cannot access the USB console port. I was told I could just get any DB9- to- USB cable and that would work. I did buy a DB9-to-USB cable and it did not work. I looked up the installation guide for this module and it just said the console cable is DB9-to-USB but with no part number.

View 5 Replies View RelatedLast night, my internet was working perfectly and I closed my computer lid before going to sleep as usual. This morning, I wake up to use my computer and the internet isn't working. I check the icon at the top and instead of showing an empty wireless meter with an X over it, it shows a computer and a cable with an X over it, which isn't normal. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532 with a built in wireless adapter and it has a button near the power button that turns the adapter on and off. I decided to turn it off, give it a while, and turn it on, but that didn't fix it, so I restarted the computer.
Now, when I try to turn it on an off, it gives the wireless symbol with a circled X over it. I have checked the device in Device Manager to see if it is working and it says it is working properly. So I uninstalled it, restarted and the computer automatically installed software like it should, but that didn't fix it. I tried a System Restore, but that didn't work as well. Another thing I should mention is that I have tried rolling back the driver (which didn't fix anything), then I updated it, which also didn't fix anything.
Is there anything else I should try? The only thing Diagnostics can detect is an unplugged cable, but it's built in, so it doesn't require a cable (I've had it for >1 year and this is the first problem I've had).I downloaded Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and it says no wireless adapters can be found.
whenever I troubleshoot a random internet connection shut off, the diagnostic is "Local Cable Connection 2 Adapter is disabled." Weirdest part is that I am connecting via WiFi.I've had this problem since college freshman year (I am a college junior). It only occurs at school, but the school tried fixing it and "everything" works fine. The internet basically shuts off every hour or so. One day I changed some minor settings like wireless signal type, reboot it and it's gone. I can not access it from my computer. The network adapter shows "cable unplugged". The lights on the front come on, but I can't get anywhere with it.
I've done all the resets I know how to do, including the 30/30/30 and leaving it unplugged for a few months.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently my setup works fine except that I need another ethernet port.I have a E4200V2 with a HP laserjet 4000N printer connected via JetDirect ethernet and I am able to print with any of my devices.However, because I have need of another ethernet port, I am wondering if anybody has tried using a parallel to usb cable? The parallel side of the cable being connect to the printer and the usb side to the router.
Or if I really want that port made available, will I have to get some type of external print server?
I know that HP makes a JetDirect Card with a USB port, however, I don't want to spend the $80 on ebay to get a used one if a $10 new cable will work.
