Cisco Switches :: What Kind Of Cable Is Required To Connect To Console On Linksys SRW2024
Apr 26, 2011
What kind of cable is required to connect to the Console on a Linksys SRW2024 switch ? ( I've lost the original cable )I use the following settings: Speed 38400, 8 bits, no parity, no flow control and stop bits 1I have tried a serial cable, no go.I have tried a null modem cable with partial handshaking, no go.I have tried a null modem cable with full handshaking, no go.For the null modem cables, if I use it to connect between computers using hyperterminal it works very well. What I type on one computer appears on the other computer's screen. However, I can't get anything out of the switch. I've tried pressing Enter repeatedly, resetting the switch with the Console cable on, etc.
I have lost the original console cable to the Cisco Linksys SRW2048 and was wondering if I can use the Cisco console cable or can a regular serial cable with female ends will work?
According to documentation Cisco RPS 675 should have support for Cisco 3750v2 switch(WS-C3750V2-48PS).What kind of cable should be used to connect them?Cisco RPS has 16 pins and 3750v2 has 22 pins.I could not find that type of cable,
I am unable to connect to webview on our SRW2024 switch. I use a macpro G5 running 10.6.8. When i try to connect to it through Safari, Chrome, or Firefox using 192.168.1.254, I receive a message that a connection cannot be established. 192.168.1.254 is the ip mentioned in the manual. I used an ip scanner and it showed the actual ip is 192.168.0.1. But I cannot connect to webview through this ip either. We got this switch a year ago and did not change any settings, we just connected it and it worked fine. But now we want to change some settings on the switch but cannot connect.
I have a Campus LAN setup which is layed out using Cisco SRW2024 and SGE2000 SB switches. On the LAN we are running various services. These are CCTV, VOIP(SIP), Public Address(multicasting) and Internet hotspots to various locations. I have attached a layout of the setup. A unique VLAN is setup for each of these services. The problem we have is that the PA audio is breaking up at intervals making the output distorted this is also happening for the SIP phones within the facility. Using the user guide we have tried to setup QoS on the system but we seem not to improve the services.
Have an SRW2024 that I was updating firmware and it got interrupted. Now I can't access the switch from either console or IP. Switch will not pass traffic. Is there a way to get this switch completely reset so I reconfigure and use it again?
I HAD similair problem:[URL](Have ver 1.1) Forgot password. Restored to v1.0.0.86 via telnet Been playing around with telnet AND web based updates Read somewhere else (Web-based ONLY works with IE) (Tried Web-based and keep getting "Copy Failed/Undefined Error" and 0 Bytes transfered) Know to upgrade "Boot" first, then "Software Image" THEN reboot
Tried telnet (not through web-based startup) Can get to "lcli" (by Ctrl+Z twice)Retyped Username and Password:
At "console#" tried typing "copy tftp:///srw2024_16_boot-101.rfb boot" didn't work : "Must be valid URL or reserved keyword"
Every "once in a while" (about a week with my network load), the SG300 crawls to an almost standstill of all IPv4 activity (haven't got IPv6 enabled here yet, so I can't comment wether this applies to IPv6 as well). It seems pure L2 transmissions is not affected, but L3 definitely is (down to 20mbit as opposed to the 600+ rate I usually get).
Soft-rebooting the switch (via the webgui) useful, and the intervals of the crashes seem related to total bytes transmitted, not time. I have jumbo frames enabled, and disabled flow control on on the switch and all hosts.
Firmware Version is 1.0.0.27, md5 1987292110f5657e74308dde30c03dc4 Boot Version is 1.0.0.4 md5 4c9a0b6a9f1346736646d08ab94ae2ac
Does it matter what kind of modem and wireless router to make DSL the fastest? Also is a modem with built in wireless better than having separate units?
So I have read about proper procedure involving the connection between a console cable and Hyper-terminal. I have also tried plugging into a network port to obtain an IP Address but nothing seems to work. When powering on the switch I see that it lights up, hear fans spin and assume it has booted properly. I'm using Hyperterminal on Windows Xp Pro SP3 and I've also tried minicom in Fedora.
And just FYI Hyperterminal was set to the proper:
Bits per second: 38400 Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop Bits: 1 Flow Control: None
I have had the switch for about 2 years and recently moved. The manual specifies:
38400 bps and 8-n-1 serial port settings using DB9F to DB9F cable.
I have done this and tried using multiple machines/ports/cables as well as several peices of software (minicom, PuTTy, hyperterminal) and none give me any output from the switch at all.
The trouble is that in its original config, it had 1 port locked into its own VLAN for management with port security and an obscure RFC1918 IP address which I cannot recall for the life of me.
At this point, I have no access to TCP/IP management so serial console is my last hope and is not working.
I have a Linksys BEFSX41 wired router. If I wanted to connect a second computer to my router, what would be the maximum length of cable I can use without experiencing any problems ?
I would like to know if the Console cable that comes with a Cisco 877 wireless router will work on a PIX 501 firewall? If NOT then where can one buy a PIX 501 console cable?
I wondering whether the Linksys e1200 and/or e1500 offer any kind of Denial of Service (DoS) protection?I'm currently looking for a new router and would love some info.
I have a problem with my vpn concentrator. I cannot access it through console, I have tried every baud rate that is available on my SecureCrt but it won't display anything. At first, I thought that my console cable is defective but I was able to access a WLC via console cable together with the rj45 to db9 converter. I also tried connecting the vpn concentrator to a switch and enable the cdp in the switch but the "show cdp neighbor" can't detect or display the vpn concentrator even if the interface status is "up up". Is it safe to say that the VPN concentrator is already broken?
I purchased an old cisco 831 for practical studies for a cisco certification. I purchased the console cable (serial/rj45) and a usb->serial converter cable. However when I open my terminal application (tera term) After I select the right com port (3) and make sure the connection settings are right. It will just sit idle and not show any data from the device. Was I sold a faulty device? It lights up and has three lights on.
Everytime I look at a manual or cisco video I am given the impression the terminal application will just automatically connect. But whenever I try I get nothing.
I want to directly connect two Win XP machines together to transfer large files. Both have "Gigabit Ethernet".Its been years since I last did this, and used to need a special cable called a crossover cable to accomplish this, but reading up to refresh my memory I believe I no longer need the special cable, but can use the cable that now connects my cable modem to my computer, as the Gigabit specification eliminates the need for a crossover cable.
I am having issue consoling into Cisco 3560V2 using console cable attached to USB to serial adapter.using putty.when i try to login on the putty i only see black screen.
I am wondering what the cable wires or sockets on the back of this router are for? could it be you can connect through the cable tv network the sockets fit perfectly in the back of the router thats a strange coinsidence dont you think?
I have two 3750 layer3 switches and I need to connect them via stack cable.so if I connect them with the stack they will be act as an one switch, but for the configuration if I create a VLANs on the master switch (applied all the configuration on the master one) this configuration will be transfered to the slave one or I have to repeat the configuration that I did on the master.
I am trying to connect two D-link 24 port switches thru cat 6 cable, distance is less than 50 meters, but its not working but if i connecting it with a Laptop i am able to connect to the network. But if i connect the switch in between it fails i tried changing the switch and cable but no use anyone have a clue how it fails?
I like to set up a pix and router for this network for a small buss, but I need to know what type of cable do I need to set this connection to work straight through or a cross over cable? also I need a subgestion if a nat would work better on the pix or leave it on the router?
I planed to configure a new catalyst 2960 switch with console cable.
During the boot, all seems ok. but from my terminal client, I can't have access to configuration mode.Keyboard or Terminal client is not sending commands to the switch.
The terminal is blocked on this line Compiled Tue 28-Sep-10 13:44 by prod_rel_team.what can I do to get access to the switch? [code]
We are having a problem with our ACS and switch configuration.Basically if the switches lose connectivity to the ACS server the switches completely lock up, you can’t even console onto the switches. We want them to use the fall back username and password when this happens.
I can access the web console, and also have telnet access but only to a VT100 menu system - How do I access the full console command prompt (without using the serial console connection)?
My company just bought a SF300-24P, got it configured without much issue. Today I try to get into it and I can't. Tried via HTTP and console and nothing happens. Decided to try to reset it using the button on the front. Using the documentation, I held down the button for over 10 seconds. Didn't reset to factory defaults, tried again and rebooted it, still nothing. What I am I doing wrong. Also nothing comes up on console window and I'm using the setting for Hyper Terminal that the documentation says I should use.
The switch functions and operates fine but I can no longer login to the webview(GUI) and when I use a serial cable to console in to it, it shows nothing on the hyperterminal meaning no login. How can I get back into the switch to manage it or reset it back to factory settings? I kept the default IP address and I enabled HTTPS to login by gui, well I got in by HTTPS so I went in to turn that setting off and hit apply and now I can't log into it at all.
