I am trying to connect two D-link 24 port switches thru cat 6 cable, distance is less than 50 meters, but its not working but if i connecting it with a Laptop i am able to connect to the network. But if i connect the switch in between it fails i tried changing the switch and cable but no use anyone have a clue how it fails?

I've tried downloading software from Dell's web site, I bought (and returned) and USB to Ethernet cable, only to find out that it was a model ahead of what this machine needs.I've asked local repair place (Microcenter) what it might be, but they'll only tell me after I pay $70 just to open it up.Another repair guy said that it is probably the motherboard and it wasn't worth fixing. View 2 Replies View RelatedOur small business just moved into a new building and I am in charge of setting up the network infrastructure. I am not new to computers or networking but I have never had to deal with this set up before.
Our current set up.We have a cable modem from comcast that has the Coax cable connected to it.The modem has 4 ports on it. The ports are connected to a built in 24 port switch that was already in the building. The switch has it's ports connected to outlets in the walls. Currently we have 4 computers on our network and since the cable modem had 4 ports it worked fine.
What we need? We will have another person join our office so I will need to activate one additional port on the switch that already exists. However, since all 4 ports on the modem are already taken, I have no way to add an additional port. They also want us to get wifi in the building.How I think I have to solve the problem (most likely wrong).I have to get another switch (like 8 port) and connect the cable modem to the switch using a cross over cable (if there is no designated internet port). Since I have the modem connected to the switch, I will have to move the 3 remaining connections to the switch.
Then I connect the 4 remaining ports on the switch to the existing 24-port switch that is already there. I will use one of the outlets in the building to connect an AP for Wi-Fi for better signal. Currently the modem and switches are hidden in a closet away from the office space and would mess up the signal.
I have just upgraded my AIM and Skype messengers and now it won't let me sign in. I did before with my old versions. It is saying that my internet connection is bad which it is not. I have looked up ports in my Yahoo messengers, Control Panel and Bit Torrent still nothing.

I believe there is a box the size of a power box in the back room for the Internet.All my other devices (MAC, iPod, Blueray Player) are able to recieve instant and unbelieveable internet connection except for my Dell. I have a Studio XPS Dell computer with windows 7. I plugged in the ethernet cable in the back of my computer and into the "Fios Box" but i didn't recieve any internet. Then i bought a wireless adapter and I do get internet but it disconnects me like every 5 minutes.

View 9 Replies View RelatedNow that the wireless on my Dell XPS 15 Z is fine, I've run into some problems with internet connectivity with Ethernet cable. Since the beginning, I wasn't able to connect to it through cable. When I connect my laptop with the cable, it says that it's connected, and that it has an internet connection. However, I can't get on it... My browsers don't have internet, and other programs can't connect either. (that while it says that it's connected to internet, quite strange)... I was thinking of some security adjustment that might block the internet connection or something, I don't know.
Oh, something that I should mention... I was able to get internet through Ethernet cable when there was a firewall... But when there's no security to the network... It isn't possible to have internet and it gives the situation described above. (any other laptop can connect with the network, so there must be some adjustment issue...)

The Wireless Was previously working fine though recently, has stopped working, all the other devices on the wireless network work fine (Asus Laptop, Iphone's etc). The hp laptop has no problem in connecting to the neighbours wireless and picking up a signal, however, when i go to search for the WAG320N im unable to find it in the list, sometimes it does appear, but after double clicking has trouble connecting to the wireless and will then dissapear from the list. First I had the LAN port cable connected at the back of my router, and the other end was connected at the back of my desktop. A little green light lit up at the back of my desktop, saying that it was grabbing signal. I could use the internet fine, and my laptop could grab wireless signal fine as well. I was missing around my router, trying to see what mark it was, and the LAN port cable came off, and when I plugged it back in, i couldn't receive signal, and neither could my laptop. Now the only way I can grab signal is by connecting the WAN port cable from my modem to my desktop, which means I cant get wireless signal on my laptop. Now when I do connect my LAN port cable to the back of my desktop, I try connecting to my wireless connection, and when I go to Network and Sharing Center, it says Connected (With full bars).

I am unable to connect to webview on our SRW2024 switch. I use a macpro G5 running 10.6.8. When i try to connect to it through Safari, Chrome, or Firefox using 192.168.1.254, I receive a message that a connection cannot be established. 192.168.1.254 is the ip mentioned in the manual. I used an ip scanner and it showed the actual ip is 192.168.0.1. But I cannot connect to webview through this ip either. We got this switch a year ago and did not change any settings, we just connected it and it worked fine. But now we want to change some settings on the switch but cannot connect.

I can't get no Layer 1 connectivitiy at all. Just dead. I have tried 4 different GBICS, swapped cabled etc.. I have forced the media type to use SFP. No link light....
I thought it would just be a case of plugging in the gbics cables and off I go! I read about forcing the speed and duplex on the port but because the port if SFP, the speed and duplex settings are not available. This seems to be hard coded.
