I purchased 2 SG500x switches that I will stack and connect to a NAS device at 10G. I need to purchase transceivers. The documentation has me confused. I just want to make sure that I can use SFP-10G-SR to stack and as the interface to the NAS. S1/S2 for stacking and XG1/XG2 to connect to the NAS all at 10G.

The switch SG500X-48 has 4 SFP+ ( 10G ) ports - XG1, XG2, XG3/S1, XG4/S2 - and two configuration modes - standalone and "native stacking".
Can I use XG1 and XG2 SFP+ ports to connect servers when "Native stacking" mode is active ?

We have a VOIP system with 1 physical NIC attached to our SG500X. It has a virtual MAC address along with the physical MAC address. It has 2 IP addresses tied to it.
I can ping the physical IP address, but can only ping the virtual address from the same vlan as the virtual nic. However, if I clear the arp table, a few pings will go through until they all time out again. This is causing problems on my phone system, and I need to establish this communication. I have tried putting in static MAC and ARP entries, but that does not work.

i was checking the datasheet of 500X series and got confused regarding the 10GE uplinks. how many 10GE ports can be used for uplink and which transceiver should be used for 10GE copper uplink? for example, SG500x-24 switch has 24GE ports and 4x10GE uplinks. can i use the 4x10GE ports for uplinks or only 2 ports are for uplink and the rest for stacking?

Does SG500X support the following
redundant Power Supply?PIM sparse mode (PIM-SM), PIM dense mode (PIM-DM), and PIM sparse-dense mode?Layer 4 prioritization: enables prioritization based on TCP/UDP port numbersUni-Directional Link Detection (UDLD) — monitors a link between two switches and blocks the ports on both ends of the link if the link goes down at any point between the two devices

We currently have the XG1 through XG4 ports on our SG500X switch setup in a LAG with the Cisco 10G-FiberOptics. Everything is working fine,however in the web UI under Port Management->Port Settings the "Port Speed" is listed as Unknown. All other ports report the speed correctly. We have 2 SG500X switches configured this way and both are reporting the same Uknown speed.
Firmware Version (Active Image): 1.2.7.76 Firmware Version (Non-active): 1.2.0.97

I am installing a network that has two SG500X-24 switches as core and several SG300-52 switches as access switches. I've seen in the SG500X-24 datasheet that there is a True Stacking feature. But in the data sheet there are not a lot of details about it. My doubt is the following. If I configure the two SG500X-24 switches as a single switch through stacking them, can I connect one SG300-52 switch to these two SG500X-24 switches through two cables (both configured as a LAG in the SG300-52 and in the SG500X-24 stack, one cable per SG500X-24), the the first cable connected to the first SG500X-24 switch and the second cable connected to the second SG500X-24 switch and keep both connections active?

We have a site with a number of SG500X switches who are about to have a new server installed.
The server is a Dell ESXi host with a dual port 10Gb NIC supporting SFP+.
I know the primary purpose of the 10Gb ports on the SG500X is for stacking etc. but the switch does come with four 10Gb ports.
Why I wouldn't be able to utilize a 10Gb port as a copper connection to the 10Gb NIC on the server? Anyone out there with a SG500X connected directly to a server at 10Gb?

I have a point to point 100mb line connecting SG500x switches at 2 locations, with these ports in a vlan together. I use layer 3 on the SG500x's to route between the two sites. I also have RIP protocol enabled to allow for automatic failover if the point to point fails (this works well).
I upgraded the ios to 1.30.59, and the connection now runs at a fraction of the speed. I have hard-coded the ports to run at 100mb full duplex, but I still only get around 12mb of throughput between the switches. I used to get about 90mb before. The provider also hard-coded the circuit to 100mb full duplex. The provider has checked the circuit remotely, and everything looks fine. I tested with a laptop at each side, and did get almost 70mb throughput. I would think this indicates some type of setting mismatch, but i cannot find anything.
I am using a backup vpn for now as some things look flaky as well (on vpn, I can use the web interface to access the SG500x on the opposite side, but on the point to point I cannot - I can ping the device though).
I have seen some references on here to shutting off STP on these 2 ports.

I am unable to connect to webview on our SRW2024 switch. I use a macpro G5 running 10.6.8. When i try to connect to it through Safari, Chrome, or Firefox using 192.168.1.254, I receive a message that a connection cannot be established. 192.168.1.254 is the ip mentioned in the manual. I used an ip scanner and it showed the actual ip is 192.168.0.1. But I cannot connect to webview through this ip either. We got this switch a year ago and did not change any settings, we just connected it and it worked fine. But now we want to change some settings on the switch but cannot connect.

Trying to connect 2 switches together (both 2960G 8 ports). I have an SFP in each (GLC-LH-SM). They are connecting over SingleMode Fibre using the correct cabling. The fibre cores have been tested and are all ok also.
I can't get no Layer 1 connectivitiy at all. Just dead. I have tried 4 different GBICS, swapped cabled etc.. I have forced the media type to use SFP. No link light....
I thought it would just be a case of plugging in the gbics cables and off I go! I read about forcing the speed and duplex on the port but because the port if SFP, the speed and duplex settings are not available. This seems to be hard coded.

This is an odd one, possibly a broken unit but I have a SRW2024P which has been running for a couple of years all OK but some time ago I noticed I couldn't access the web interface. I decided to leave it until I actually needed to change something, which is now!
After much messing around modifying a null-modem cable to work (i.e. connected pins 2,3 and 5) I managed to connect to the console through HyperTerm. Did a full factory re-set and XMoDem'd the 1.2.9 software on again but still no luck.
I tried accessing the web console and telnet with the default IP and tried setting my own IP but can't even ping them.
There are a few other peculiarities: The units MAC address in the console is shown as 00-00-00-00-00-00The units hardware version is blank in the consoleBoth PING and TRACERT tests fail to any address except the units ownTFTP uploads fail to connect (the TFTP server doesn't even log an access attempt)All other clients connected to the switch are working fine and the port statuses in the console show working connections Basically; it is as if the web/config/admin 'module' is disconnected from the actual switch in some way?

I'm the administrator of a system composed of seven SGE2010P switches in stack configuration.I developed a script to update the ACL at regular time intervals.
ACLs work well unless one or more switches in the stack is turned off. In this case it would seem that once, which switches off will restart, they do not synchronize ACLs assigned to interfaces.
Currently the only solution I've found to restore functionality, it is cold restart of the entire stack.I was wondering if there is a command to propagate the acl switches that I can recall in the event of a restart of any of these.

I need to set up a VLAN. We just bought the SG500x switches and we need to create several VLANs.
So for example:
192.168.1.x --> Vlan 1
192.168.2.x --> Vlan 2
192.168.3.x --> Vlan 3
What I would like to know is how do I come about setting this up and do I have to do something with my DHCP server to allow this to happen?

I have two workstations running 7 Pro, each has a quad port intel card (PCIe) which I have created teams for on both sides using link aggregation. On my switch, a Cisco SG500X-24, I set up two LAG's with 4-ports each and have both servers connected as necessary. I turned on Jumbo frames and disabled energy saving. The teams were set up without LACP turned on, however I tried it with LACP and I also ran into the same problem. Both workstations have a 26TB arrays running in RAID 6 (so plenty of read/write speed), however, with this setup, I can only get about 100MB/s (single port speed) and multiple data streams cause the speed to divide. Only single ports blink on the cards as well.
Questions 1 is probably a no-brainer, but it's my first time setting this up, but once this is working properly, would it allow a single file to transfer at ~400MB/s or would I need to start multiple datastreams to take advantage of link aggregation.
Question 2 is what do I need to change to make the link aggregation work?
I do have a little linksys router plugged into a non aggregated port to do DHCP but that wouldn't mess anything up, would it? Considering I can unplug it once everything is talking, all the transfer should take place at the switch level, correct?

We're looking for Cisco switches with the following attributes to serve as the core switches in a production network:1U (or close), fixed config20 or more 1GbE copper ports4 or more 1/10GbE fiber ports (SFP+)Not ridiculously expensive So far the closest fit we've found for these requirements is the SG500X-24. However, since the SG500X-24 is a "small business" switch we're concerned that the reliability may not be up to the levels of Cisco's enterprise switches, the support level may not be sufficient, the 12MB packet buffer may not be enough to support wire-speed operation (or efficient communication between hosts on 1GbE and 10GbE ports), and so on. But in looking through Cisco's entire current switch line (a daunting task...) this seems to be the switch that best fits the specifications above. So, some more appropriate switch that fits the listed requirements?s why the SG500X-24 would be a poor choice for a production network? Have you had positive experiences with using the SG500X-24 as a mission-critical switch?

I have 3 2960g switches that each have about 40 devices (pc's, printers, etc..) attached to them. Each of these 2960 switches has one port connected to a port on a "core" switch, which is a 3950g. The 3950 has 3 switches and all of our servers (12) conected to it's ports. The network seems to be running alright, however most, if not all, of the port lights on ALL switches blink wildly(at least I consider it "wildly"). Am I doing this wrong? Is there a better way to connect all these switches?Also, this configuration is for our first floor. The second floor has the exact same configuration, and the two 3950's (one upstairs, one downstairs) arec connected via fiber.

I configured a new SG-200-08 with a static IP. I tried to save the configuration as the startup configuration. After 10 minutes, I restarted the switch. It didn't boot with the new configuration, and returned to the default .254 and default pw. Now I cannnot assign a new pw or get past the change the pw page. When I try to save a new pw, the switch reboots and prompts me to change from the default pw. I tried resetting the switch by depressing the reset button for a long time, but results are the same. LED indicators are green with a flashing green indicating the .254 address and a solid green on the port where the switch is connected to the computer. How can I reset the switch or get passed the change your pw page?
