Cisco Switches :: SG500X-24 Stacking - Keeping Connections Active

May 12, 2013

I am installing a network that has two SG500X-24 switches as core and several SG300-52 switches as access switches. I've seen in the SG500X-24 datasheet that there is a True Stacking feature. But in the data sheet there are not a lot of details about it. My doubt is the following. If I configure the two SG500X-24 switches as a single switch through stacking them, can I connect one SG300-52 switch to these two SG500X-24 switches through two cables (both configured as a LAG in the SG300-52 and in the SG500X-24 stack, one cable per SG500X-24), the  the first cable connected to the first SG500X-24 switch and the second cable connected to the second SG500X-24 switch and keep both connections active?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Dropping And Keeping Connection Active

Jun 3, 2009

Having problems with my wireless router, dropping and keeping connection active. For some odd reason I keep dropping connection either wireless or wired. I have a total of 5 items going through this router. 2 of them are wireless and the other 3 are wired. The wireless items are a desktop computer that is using the Wireless USB adapter to get online. Sometimes it drops and most of the time it doesn’t have any problems. I have a laptop that sometimes the connection goes from strong all the way down to no connection at ALL. It starts at 54MBPS to down to the RED X over the wireless manager. Forgot to mention both of these machines are Windows XP. If I reboot the laptop, it comes up without any problems.

Sometimes I tell Windows XP to manage the Wireless connection and tell it to disconnect and re-connect again, it goes. Now for the wired items, I have 2 gaming systems and another computer plugged directly up to the router. For some odd reason when I double click on the internet, on the computer that is hooked directly to the router, it says page couldn’t be found. I know that there is connection and there is nothing running in the task tray except for the Anti-Virus and Firewall. The browsers that I am using are Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Firefox 3.0.10.  Also checked on the back of the machine to see if I have link lights and everything is flashing. Finally, when I click the homepage or refresh button about 2 or 3 times, it goes through.

think that I am overloading this Router and it can’t handle it. I might have to look into sending "Keep Alive" packet setting on the router.

Cisco Switches :: Virtual NIC On VOIP System And SG500X?

Aug 27, 2012

We have a VOIP system with 1 physical NIC attached to our SG500X. It has a virtual MAC address along with the physical MAC address. It has 2 IP addresses tied to it.

I can ping the physical IP address, but can only ping the virtual address from the same vlan as the virtual nic. However, if I clear the arp table, a few pings will go through until they all time out again. This is causing problems on my phone system, and I need to establish this communication. I have tried putting in static MAC and ARP entries, but that does not work.

CIsco Switches :: SGE-2010 How To Wire Switches For Stacking

Dec 13, 2011

We had a SGE-2010, just purchased 2 (two) SGE-2010P. I want to stack the switches (all 3) (unless there is a better way). Not sure what is needed hardware wise, and how to physically wire the switches. Had switches years ago (diff brand) that used a special cable that connected the switches. It seems that is not the case here. I have not used fiber in networking before so I am new to that part, I’m willing to learn, just need pointed in the right direction. Can all three switches be stacked, (1) SGE-2010 & (2) SGE-2010P? I THINK I need to use the GBIC port 4 to stack, I understand 1 port is enough if two switches are used, but what about three or more switches. What are the other GBIC ports used for? Will I be better off (can I ) use the GBIC ports LAG (2 ports) to the other switches? Or would regular ports work just as well?

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Stacking And Powered From POE By Upstream Switch?

Sep 11, 2012

I discovered on a pair of SG300-28P.

On a second switch (ver 1.2.7.76) when I unplugged the power cord, to my amazement the switch turned right back on (about 1 second later), with the power cord removed. To verify that the power is indeed coming from POE, the upstream switch (ver 1.1.2.0) that is the same model (sg-300-28p), shows all 7 Ethernet ports connecting the two drawing from 2700mW, to 3000mW.

While the second switch is powered from the first over POE, the POE does not work on the second switch to power anything, and the system summary mentions something about "PoE Power Information on Master Unit".

Is this a stacking operation, and is POE on the second switch NOT supposed to work when powered over Ethernet from an upstream switch?

Cisco Switches :: SG500x Point To Point Connection Very Slow After 1.30.59 Update

May 1, 2013

I have a point to point 100mb line connecting SG500x switches at 2 locations, with these ports in a vlan together. I use layer 3 on the SG500x's to route between the two sites. I also have RIP protocol enabled to allow for automatic failover if the point to point fails (this works well).

I upgraded the ios to 1.30.59, and the connection now runs at a fraction of the speed. I have hard-coded the ports to run at 100mb full duplex, but I still only get around 12mb of throughput between the switches. I used to get about 90mb before. The provider also hard-coded the circuit to 100mb full duplex. The provider has checked the circuit remotely, and everything looks fine. I tested with a laptop at each side, and did get almost 70mb throughput. I would think this indicates some type of setting mismatch, but i cannot find anything.

I am using a backup vpn for now as some things look flaky as well (on vpn, I can use the web interface to access the SG500x on the opposite side, but on the point to point I cannot - I can ping the device though).

I have seen some references on here to shutting off STP on these 2 ports.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Stacking 24 And 48 Port 3750X Switches Not Working?

Dec 11, 2012

We purchased a number of 3750X 48 and 24 port switches for the College Campus. Am finally getting around to getting them inserted on the network. Working with a WS-3750X-48PF-S and a WS-3750X-24P-L. Have them stacked with the 10Gb uplink on the 48 port switch. Have not been having fun.In the boot sequence, the switches recognize they are stacked, but as soon as they finish boot, I get the message on the 48 port switch: “Stack Port 1 Switch 1 has changed to state down.” Then “Stack Port 2 Switch1 has changed to state down.” Am noticing that I have a message preceding that: “Major version mismatch with stack neighbor.”The 48 port is running c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2.The 24 port is running c3750e-unversalk9-mz.122-55.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2Most of our 3750X and older switches are running 122-55 or 122.58 code. IP base or Universal. There is speculation that the problem is the 24 Port is Lan base, as the part number might indicate. (WS-C3750X-24-P-L.... I think that is the part number) and the 48 is IP base. Both switches are Universal, and my understanding is that they don't care about LAN or IP Base until you enable a function that falls in the IP Base domain. Then I have to call Cisco Licensing. For these switches, LAN Base is fine, based on the boot message, I feel the real problem is 122-55 versus 150-1 in the stack. So.. the question is: Do I downgrade the 48 port to match what we have in our environment, and what is on the 24 port switch. Or... Upgrade the 24 port switch to match the 48 port switch and have an installation that is not consistent with our environment? I do have two more edge closets to install with this purchase of 3750X 48 port switches.

Cisco WAN :: 5520 - Active / Passive ASA With Redundant ISP Connections

Apr 25, 2012

Currently we are using a single connection to our ISP and in the coming months will be moving to a two seperate connections (to same ISP). In our current setup we utilize active/passive ASA's (5520, single context) and would like to utilize that going forward as well, the reason being is our DMZ's all hang off of these ASA's and we have fiber connectivity between our datacenters. Our main datacenter and DR Datacenter are basically one big LAN with fiber between them, so we have our DMZ networks at both locations currently with both terminating in our ASA's. That way if the ASA at our current site fails the DMZ's are still accessible via the secondary firewall at our DR facility.
