I want to setup SQL Server on my internal home network, and make it available to my colleagues.
[code]...
Win 2008 Server with SQL Server. What do I need to do to allow my colleagues to connect to the SQL server from their computers, in their offices (not on my network)? For example, because I have a DHCP address from my ISP, do I need to use something like DynDNS to track my IP address?

We have three laptops in our house. We are set up with internet that gives me a direct connect and up to eight wireless devices. My son and daughter-in-law use the wireless and I use the direct connect. M son added a router (which I have no idea what that does) and set up networking on his computer (which I also have no idea what that does). When I am the only one on the computer, it flys. When either of them get on thiers too, it slowes a little. When both of them get on, I might as well get off because it can take up to three and a half minutes to load a page.

I bought the DIR 655 to put into our network as the Netopia wireless fails to connect even though we have maximum signal strength. Att advised that buying a third party router would solve this problem.I did manage to almost configure the DIR 655. I would have to connect it to the system to test it[CODE]

I've been having problems with the router portion of my cable modem router. I have a brand new router that I would like to use rather than the crappy router that is part of the cable modem. The problem is that I'm not able to get online no matter how I set the settings. I have disabled DHCP in the cable modem router and am connecting this to the router thru the internet port of the router.

I run the setup wizard and everything is going well until the router tries connecting to the internet when a pop-up appears telling me that it can't connect to the internet and that i should try turning my modem off and on again.

I'm trying to setup a Canyon CN-FW514 wireless router through a Thomson modem. When I first started trying, I could get up the set-up screen on [URL] however this is as far as I got; the laptop said it had a very strong signal with the wireless connection, but I could not get any web pages to open (windows explorer couldn't detect any problems either). The Thomson modem works when I conect it to the laptop via the ethernet cable, but that's not much use to me trying to use the internet elsewhere in the house!I tried changing the IP address, subnet mask and gateway IP address on the set-up screen [URL] which seems to have been a big mistake; I now can't even get the set-up screen to appear.I've reset the internet options and have set everything to obtain the IP address automatically but am still having no luck.

Im trying to setup a cable modem which is also a router that has a printer attached to one of its lan ports. From there it connects to another router which connects to other clients from there i have another router with a VPN connection with other clients. I would like to be able to see everyone on the network. How do I setup the routers in particular the router with the vpn which is the last router. Also the vpn router is connected through its WAN port to the router ahead of it at its lan port so it can use its VPN connection. If it makes it easier lets ignore the cable modem as router and ill find the printer another way of connecting but essentially i need the two other routers for two ip addresses. One for the first router with my regular IP and then the other is for VPN IP.

So my family has an E2000 setup near the modem in a room that litterally is a DEADZONE, signal bearly gets in or out of this room. I've argued until I was blue in the face that we ned to rewire the internets inlet to the house in to another room that isn't a deadzone and rune a router from there. They IT disadvantaged refused. We have also an E2500 they say hook it up, maybe it will work better (when your in a concrete and mettal room with a router sitting on a shelf surrounded by book and with a corless phone system hooks up and sitting on top of it... its jsut not going to work. is there a way i can take the E2500 and make it an access point for the E2000?
I figure if I can I would take the E2500 and put int in a better location and jsut have it relay the E2000 internet. Because of the IT limited thought process of most of the people living here I'd prefer that they share the same SSID or atleast make for a simple transition for the apes I live with.

I am trying to get my parents Kindle Fire to work. They recently purchased a Motorola Modem/Router which is hooked into the desktop and works fine. I want to get their new kindle to work and can not seem to figure it out. Their operating system is Vista which I can upgrade to Windows 7 if that would make it easier. When I click on setup the WiFi part of the installation wizard cd that came with the Motorola it says there is not a network adapter. I know what that is however I do not know why I would need it when the desktop is hooked directly into modem/router and I just need the WiFi for Kindle.

I recently switched from dsl to cable. I have a e2000 router that I would still like to use. The modem I have is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.

I have the Linksys BEFSX41 wired Firewall router. My ISP is Verizon DSL. The DSL modem is a Westell 6100G. I have the wall phone line connected to my modem. The output of the modem is going to the input of my Linksys router. I have two computers connected to the router outputs. In order for me to see the output or configuration of my Westall modem, I have to go http://192.168.1.1. In order for me to see the configuration of my Linksys router, I have to enter http://10.10.10.1. When I look at the instructions for setting up and configuring my Linksys router, it never mentions the above 10.10.10.1 address, but instead it tells me to enter the 192.168.1.1 address. I have never done this because when I powered both units for the first time, and it worked, I noticed then that my Linksys address was the 10.10.10.1. Why is it then that none of the settings or instructions for the Linksys router never mention to enter the 10.10.10.1 address as oppose to the one the do call out to enter which is the address for the Westell modem? What would happen if both addresses on both devices were the same?

Or do I just let both of the transmit as routers together?

Is there a way to force the user to use the modem dns settings? I'm using open dns (set within the modem settings) but think the users are simply entering alternate dns servers in the browser settings or temporarily re-configuring the network settings. I know the easy solution is to take away administrative privileges, but due to the work the users are doing, they need admin privileges.

I have a small home network, which until now has been set up via a Verizon DSL modem/router. Today I added an ASUS wirless router to the network, and that is working just fine. However, I did not think to shut off wireless service from the modem before I switched over. However, now I can't seem to find the IP necessary to access the modem's setup screens. Whereas before I logged in at 192.168.1.1, I get nothing there now. The new router is at 192.168.2.1 and I have not be able to puzzle out any IP that gets me access to the modem settings. Is there way to find that screen, without totally redoing the setup process?

My adolescent son wants to create a server to host video games. We, the parents, want to separate our computers and files from all the crazy security risks my son and his friends take, while allowing them to learn by their mistakes.I want 2 separate networks, or does this make sense? Would love to have our computers (assorted PC's, Macs, both laptops and desktops, running Vista Ultimate, Windows 7, OSX 10.5 and up), ipods, TV's, Blu-rays, wireless printers, etc. isolated from our son's computers, ipods, TV's, XBox, Blurays, wireless printers, (as well as the digital stuff his friends bring over).Since security is the reason for this, would love any tips over and above Brian Posey's article on Tech Republic (5 common security mistakes people make on setting up wireless networks, or something like that)We have Optimum high speed (testing up to 65 mps) internet service and 5 static IP addresses to work with.

I would like to be able to access my DSL Modem's http setup screens from my networked computers via my DIR-655 (rev B) router - but I do not know how to get the router to route to the WAN port.
At first, I had my DSL Modem's LAN IP at 192.168.0.1 and my DIR-655 at 192.168.1.1 and the rest of my home network at 192.168.1.xxx; because I had read on a forum that having the modem on a different subnet prevented potential routing problems. When I pointed my web browser to 192.168.0.1 - it would just timeout (I kind of expected that).
Now (willing to try anything), I have my DSL Modem's LAN IP at 192.168.0.2 and my DIR-655 at 192.168.0.1 and the rest of my home network at 192.168.0.xxx (DHCP range is set to assign hosts from 64 to 254). When I point my web browser to 192.168.0.2 - it still just times out.
The DSL Modem is setup in transparent bridge mode. And everything else is working well with the home network.
How can I get the DIR-655 to pass/route my http connection to the DSL modem?

My daughter is on an Army Base in the South Pacific. They have Dial up internet on their home telephone not DSL. They have high speed wireless at the base community center/coffee shop. I will be going there in 9 days to install the dir-615. She has a Dell Desktop with Vista Basic SP1, laptop with XP, IPAD2 and a NOOK Tablet. The dir-615 HVE1 with firmware 5.00na on the bottom sticker. She said she was able to go to web address, login, change the user name and password, started on the wireless configuration and she paniced. My question is basically this. by using a cat5 cable from the desktop to the dir-615 with dialup internet connected can the router be setup using the automatic method as opposed to manual. Our first priority is to be able transfer files to the 2 tablets without being connected to the internet like a switch and secondly If possible go on to the internet from a Tablet or the Laptop. I assume the second option would reuire internet sharing option when setting up the network and performance would be ugly.
Can get I get this router to work this way with just dialup to set it up

We have kids in the house and I'd like to limit their internet access to certain times of the day but because of the great amount of devices they use (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) the only way I could think of doing that easily was to set up two wireless networks: one that the adults could use 24/7 and the other that the kids could access during certain set hours.
Here's the equipment I'm working with:
DLink DIR 615 wireless router
DLink DIR 515 wireless router
Motorola Surfboard cable modem S85101U
I plugged the DLink 615 in, set it up for DHCP client and plugged it into the cable modem. I lef the default 192.168.0.1 IP address for the device. On that router, I also reserved the 192.168.0.199 IP address and assigned it to the DLink 515.I also gave the DLink 515 device the IP 192.168.1.1 so I could administer it.I set the DLink 515 to static IP and made the IP 192.168.0.199 and the default gateway 192.168.0.1.I plugged the DLink 515 into one of the LAN ports in the DLink 615.I set a schedule on the DLink 615 to shut down internet access to the DLink 515 at a certain hour and turn it back on at another time.Everything seems to work ok, but at least once a day we have to unplug and plug the routers to reset them.
