Setting Up A Modem / Router Combo (D-Link DSL2730-B) As A Dedicated Modem?
Feb 28, 2013i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

How To Connect A DSL Modem To A D-link DIR-815 Router
Jan 12, 2013I ordered the D-link DIR-815 router online at [URL], and I'll be receiving it this Monday which is the 14th, so I am asking my questions on here now, so I could be prepared.
1.) I don't have a wireless card in my PC, so I will be connecting wired to get WiFi via WAN and LAN ports, right? First before I forget, I have a Windows 7 32-bit desktop PC. We are working with a DSL modem residential line without phone line using a coaxial cable, and Ethernet cable from modem into the PC. connecting this D-link router to my modem and WiFi, and for me to use the WPA2 security?
2.) I have an iPhone 4 with Verizon. If I want to use my iPhone to get WiFi from the router, and turn off the Internet on my phone, and use WiFi only on my phone, how would this work?

He says has 3 static ips for the modem, and 1 of the network cables coming from the modem directly into the D-Link Router. I first attempted to just plug it into the uplink, and let DCHP do its magic, but I had no luck with that. I could connect to the router but it didn't have internet.
So I restarted the downstream router, and plugged the network cable into the 1st port, and suddenly I had internet on the wireless but it would constantly go up and down, and ping times were extreme erratic.

Sep 6, 2011I have a D-Link 2740B with the 2 antennas and sloping black case and for some reason I now can't seem to login to the web GUI via 192.168.1.1. The modem is working OK but there is a setting I need to change.IE says "Internet Explorer cannot display the page"A friend then recommended trying Firefox. This worked the first time but now it is not connecting either. On http://192.168.1.1/ I just get a blank screen.I've turned the power off on the modem for 15 minutes and back on, and rebooted the computer.I've also tried turning Norton Antivirus & Firewall off but this didn't make any difference.I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with SP1.I've avoided resetting the modem as I am of the understanding that means I have to start from scratch with all the settings.

I just bought the TP Link MR 3020 and tried connecting my Tata Photon Whiz USB (Huawei EC121) modem with it. The TP Link cannot identify the modem. It goes forever into identifying mode. I next tried a Huawei E173 with Reliance 3g sim in it but again no results. The TP Link goes into identifying mode forever. I have installed the latest firmware for the device but am not able to set it up.

Now when i try to hook the router [dir-655 rev B v2.10NA] up the world light is orange and i cannot get a connection. I tried running the wizard but it times out and says it cannot find the server. I used the reset button and that did not work. It says to use a PPoe connection and i have the right password but it will not connect.

my MR 3220 cannot manage tp-link Ma180 modem. At start-up it tryes to identify the modem but after a while the status of the modem shows "Unplugged"

D-Link DIR-601 - Access Modem Router As Admin?
Feb 26, 2013I was trying to access the modem router as the admin but AT&T seems to have a pain in the butt security system from me making any changes. I wanted to forward some ports to setup my Synology DS212j Network Attached Storage (NAS). I connected my d-link router to the already setup modem router which I am now connected to. I have to run off to school but I was wondering, would I be able to forward the port off my d-link DIR-601 and be able to host my NAS server off that?
I don't have too much in-depth networking experience besides setting forwarding ports, setting static IPs, but I can't do that since I am not the admin for the AT&T router. I figure the password for the AT&T router is just defaulted to admin or blank but I haven't had time to fully test everything out.
Share 3G USB Modem Internet Through D-Link DIR-655 Router
Oct 6, 2012I moved to a new apartment and have to wait a month or even more to get my DSL internet, so I temporarily got myself a USB 3G device to have some access to the internet till I get my DSL line.
The USB acts as 3G modem for a single PC that's connected to it, what I want is to share that internet using my D-Link DIR-655 router so I'd be able to connect my iPhone and PS3 as well.
How to get that setup working as smoothly as possible would be great. DIR-655's default gateway is 192.168.0.1, and the auto DHCP range IIRC is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.

May 19, 2011My desktop recently broke so i bought my first laptop. I have AT&T DSL and i bought a new D-Link DSL-2640B modem/router so i could have wireless internet. I installed it and i was able to use it with the ethernet cable, however when i tried to use wifi, it worked for only about 2 minutes before it disconnected.. Now when i try again it says that it is connected (full 5 bars) but it also says there is no internet access and i cannot use the internet.
Also, before, with the old modem i was able to just connect the ethernet cable to the laptop and just start using the internet. Now i have to connect by putting in my username and password provided by my ISP almost like if it was dial up. I don't know why i have to do this now but not before.

I am connected to the internet via a non TP=Llink ADSL2 modem/router supplied by my ISP.I was using my TL-MR3220 as a 3G modem but no longer need it for that purpose. I was wondering whether I can now use my TL-MR3220 for two other purposes: as an additional wireless access point and as a means of linking equipment (i.e. printers) to the home network . i have tried connecting the ADSL2 modem/router to the TL-MR3220 via an ethernet cable (one of the 4 LAN ports on the ADSL modem/router to the blue WAN port on the TL-MR3220) but I can get no internet connection through the TL-MR3220.Is this normal i.e. something that the TL-MR3220 is not designed to do, or am I just using the wrong settings ? my Huawei E353 dongle/modem is not recognised by the MR3420 router. The router functions perfectly with a different dongle (E122). The E353 works fine when connected directly to laptop so I am happy it is functioning fine. Could not find a bin file for the E353.

I have just bought the MR3040. I am using this in India with local ISP Airtel and ZTE MF 880T LTE modem, which normally gives 4G connection when connected directly to the laptop.I have used the normal settings as guided by TP link and checked that dialing properties are all fine. When I am connecting through the MR3040, the blue light is visible in the modem but there is NO internet throughput, the internet icon in the router also remains OFF.

The TL-MR3420 recognizes my modem (Olivetti Olicard 160), but it does not connect to the 3G network. I tested the modem on my PC and it connects fine. The PIN verification is deactivated and the Modem configuration is the same as I use on the PC, however it just keeps trying to connect without success. I updated the firmware to the latest version.

I'm using D-Link DWM-156 3.75G HSUPA USB Adapter.The problem I'm encountering is the router does not auto detect the 3G USB adapter when I power up the router. The router will detect the 3G adapter only when I plug out and plug in the 3G USB adapter. I used to have the same router but version 1.2. Version 1.2 does not have this problem.

D-Link DIR-825 :: Router Stopped Communicating With Cable Modem
Jul 21, 2012We ran a D-Link DIR-655 for about 5 years on our home network of 7 desktop computers (LAN) and two laptops (wireless) with essentially no problems. However following a power outage last week the router stopped communicating with the cable modem (WAN port failure?). From the web site we determined that the DIR-825 is a fancier version of the DIR-655 (extra 5 GHz transmitter) so we upgraded to a new 825 three days ago. I did not use the wizard on the CD to set up the new router -- rather did it manually because I thought I'd configure the new router exactly the same as the old one -- this was probably not a good idea in retrospect. (FYI our new DIR-825 is a ver. B1 unit with ver. 2.02NA firmware.
After setting the router up -- it lit up like a Christmas tree and I could see all 7 desk top computers (3 are WIN7 & 4 are WINXP) in the LAN and all would go on-line with no issues. (FYI 3 desk tops are directly attached to the DIR-825 and four attached via a switch). However, when I tried to map the network I find that only 5 of the desk tops we assigned to our named home network -- 2 or them could not be mapped as they were assigned to a "public" network. So while they all still communicate with each other two are no longer in our home network. I do not think this was anything that I did -- knowingly at least.
I logged back on the the router home page but I see nothing that clues me in as to what I did wrong.So I'm wondering how the DIR-825 made these "assignments" and what I can do to redirect the router to bring the other two computers into our home network. (BTW one of the two "miss-assigned" computers is WIN7 and one is WINXP so its not a window version issue).
