D-Link DIR-600 Modem Can Connect Directly To PC But Not Through Wireless Or Wired Router
Aug 12, 2012I've been using D-Link DIR-600 wireless router for two months with my ISP, SmartBro. A week ago my internet went down due to heavy rain and technical support had a home visit yesterday to re-activate my internet connection. My net connection came back smoothly using a direct connection from modem to laptop.When I tried to connect the modem to my wifi router, the internet was not detected. Even if I reset the router settings, no internet connection was detected. Initially, I thought there is a problem with my wifi router so I connected the modem to our Edimax wired router but still it could not detect internet access. Every time I open a browser while connected to a router, this message is shown (see attached screenshot).
I tried using another ISP, Wi-Tribe with both wired and wifi routers and everything worked well. So now I assume the problem lies with my SmartBro ISP. I called the ISP hotline but they told me that they do not provide support for router connection problems; only with single, direct connect to a PC.I asked a neighbor IT technician to look into my problem but he too could not solve the problem.

basically, I dont understand why linksys is not able to connect directly to the modem. yet it gets solid connection hardwired through another router.

Of course If I enable prioritisation, I get even less, 12-15 Mbits/sec.I tried already even configuration with ASMAX as wired router and EA6500 connected to its LAN port. It gives me 50Mbits/sec.

Jun 9, 2011I have been using my DIR-655 for about 2 weeks now with Road Runner wideband services. Starting yesterday my internet became very slow and I discovered the cause was the router. I tried resetting it to factory settings and things will be fine and run smoothly for about 5-15 minutes but after that it goes back to being extremely slow. My speed tests would go from 10ms (normal) to 250-450ms. Before this issue occurred the Dlink was perfect, had full speeds. I am running a wire Ethernet connection.
I am currently using revB and tried upgrading firmware to 2.01NA which had no effect, but make my internet seemingly go back to normal for the first few minutes then nosedive again. I have also changed my speed/duplex settings in Network Config to 1gbs Full Duplex. I've also disabled QoS, and still no change. Not sure what else to do. When directly connected to the modem everything seems fine. The modem is also the provided Motorola SBG6580 which I have called Time Warner to set the modem into bridge mode and have the DIR-655 connected to it.

Feb 16, 2013I would like my dcs-930l ip camera to be directly connected to my d-link dsl-321b modem (which has only one rj45 port to connect to), so that I can either access the cam via the internet (watching livestream through webinterface, that would be option 1) or so that the cam sends an email with a picture as soon as the motion sensors activate - that would be option 2 (by the way: the modem / cam get internet access through german telekom / t-online).
I have tried to get option 1 as well as option 2 to work, but I failed... I would be happy if either option 1 or 2 would work for me - I don't really care which one. In both cases, the problem seems to be that the dcs-930l cam cannot access the internet (but the cam itself works - I can view the livestream through the local network).

Aug 29, 2011I know there are a lot of threads out there regarding connection issues, both with wireless & LAN connections, after updating firmware to 1.35. To provide a snapshot of my setup...I have 3 GB switches throughout my home, a couple Ethernet enabled Blu-Ray players, 2 XBOX 360's, multiple satellite receivers with Ethernet, 5 PC's, 3 iphones, etc...you get the picture. I also have 5 older DLink wi-fi cameras. So, with this said my setup has been flawless for some time. However, a week or so ago I upgraded my firmware on my DIR-655 to the latest version...everything still seemed fine at the time. Yesterday I noticed we had no wireless internet so I went and checked. Sure enough...no connectivity on my desktop that's directly linked to the router, etc.
I tried rebooting & then resetting the router...got connectivity, but as soon as I plugged my PC into the switch...no IP address. I played around with settings, wiring configurations, etc...I'm pretty up to speed on this setup so I felt I exhausted every option. I thought my router went bad...gave me an excuse to go get the latest so I brought home a NetGear N750...hooked it up. As soon as I changed the LAN IP address range to condense the #of IP addresses I'm giving out again, the LAN connection to the PC was lost...I could not get it restored. I finally got it working, bypassing the GB switch, but the wireless would lose connection literally after a few seconds.
I ended up taking the NetGear router back and bought the exact same DIR-655, but this time it was HW version B1 instead of A and it was firmware #2.00 or something like that. I hooked it up when I got home...configured the system to exactly the way I had it before and PRESTO!!! My system is working like it was before. I can only think that the firmware upgrade I made on the previous router screwed something up in my system.

Now when i try to hook the router [dir-655 rev B v2.10NA] up the world light is orange and i cannot get a connection. I tried running the wizard but it times out and says it cannot find the server. I used the reset button and that did not work. It says to use a PPoe connection and i have the right password but it will not connect.

Oct 27, 2011I have a setup where there are two networks. A 172.16.0.0/16 and a 10.1.0.0/16 that are separated by the dlink router. I am able to ping from the 172 network to the 10 network using a laptop that is directly connected to the router and that laptop can also browse the web fine. However, I cannot ping to that router or access that subnet at all from the 10 network (if I try to access its LAN (the 172 network)). The 172 network is on its LAN and the 10 network is its WAN. I can access its WAN fine. Also, there the router is not recognizing the laptop as a "directly connected deivce" but its not preventing the laptop from using the router. I have tried to make the router as least secure as possible but still nothing.
I thought about making Static Route to point towards the router's LAN but the only option it gives me is the WAN for the exit interface.

Can't Get Internet If Plugged Directly Into Modem
Nov 29, 2012I think our brand new Belkin router toasted itself after it automatically updated it's firmware. We've had it for three days the first two days we were downloading around 2MB/s, then last night it updated itself and since then it's been crawling around 100kb/s.
I've tried to plug the desktop right into the modem to see if it'd speed back up but it won't give it internet access this way. I've tried rebooting the modem after and before switching cables around but nothing will make it change.

I have no access to the router ATM, but when I went to update, it was the latest version and build of the foirmware.I have read several reports of successful use of these two. I connect the MR 3420 to the PC, power it up. I connect BP3-EXT to the router and power it up. The MR 3420 router shows a very brief connect to the USB-based modem.: the USB light on the router stays on for about 2-3 seconds. The WLAN light on the router is on, showing a signal.
Running the setup has resulted in a couple of things. The Router's page shows that is knows the MODEM is attached to Telstra, in Australia. I do not get to put in #99# or my name and password. "Next" results in either a freeze of the Router's page "Connecting...." or I get to step through to "Congratulations, you have finished. Now connecting you to the Net"...with absolutely nothing happening on either the router or the modem. I am not sure how it thinks I am going to log in.If I do put in manual username and password, it freezes when I try to go Next.I _think_ that if the router page is frozen, it responds better if I pull the modem out of the router's USB socket.The modem works fine if plugged straight into the computer.I do remember I had a lot of trouble using a different brand of 3g router a couple of years back. Unfortunately, after I got it working, the router died.

Currently my friend just got the internet and I told them to buy a router but they did not, and just have it directly connected to the modem. Is this fine, because they only have one computer, and it works fine for now, but wouldn't this be prone for attack?
