Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WMP600N Defaults To 54mb?
Feb 4, 2011
I finally got the adapter to work in my windows 7 64bit machine after ditching a Netgear WN311B which very rarely worked at speeds over 1mb/s...anyways
I set my router to N only and it connected at 270mb/s but when I set the router to 270N/54G the adapter reconnected to the router at 54mb speeds...how do I get it to connect at the N speed? I need the G setting for other wireless devices (laptop, phones, etc)

I'm having trouble trying to allow this device to wake the pc. Does WMP600N support this ? When i go into the power management section i have 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' but the option for 'Allow this device to wake the computer' is greyed out ? I currently have driver version 3.0.2.0 installed.

Is there a way to force 40 mhz on a wmp600n. I have it connected to a e2000 router. When I bootup It connects at 130 mbps and if I let it sit for about a day or so it will eventually connect at 300 mpbs which is what I want it to connect at after boot. I dont see a option in the drivers for this adapter to force 40 over 20. Seems it connects at 20, then after so long it moves to 40.

I just bought a Wireless-N PCI adapter (WMP600N) and followed the instructions given by the CD. I installed the card into an empty slot and ran the CD to install the drivers, but error message 221 keep appearing to tell me that the computer can't see the adapter.
My computer runs on Win 7, 32-bit so I have downloaded the latest drivers for Win 7 from your website. Now I want to manually update my adapter to the Win 7-driver, but I don't know how. The adapter won't even show up in the device manager.

what are the main differences between these two PCI wireless network cards WMP300N and WMP600N The first one seems to have a better coverage due to the external antenna, the second covers more wireless standards.Witch one is the better.

I have a Linksys wireless WMP600n PCi adapter installed in my desktop PC and after recovering from standby, it does not automatically reconnect. I have to right-click on the Wireless Networks icon in the system tray then select "Repair". I would say it does this 9 times out of 10 (1 time in 10 I seem to luck out and it restores the connection automatically).
I have an Asus M4A88TD-M motherboard with 1 Gb of DDR3 RAM and I am running Windows XP Home Edition (SP3). There is only one PCi slot on this motherboard. Also, I am not using the wireless network software that shipped with the product but rather the native wireless networks application software that shipped with Windows XP. I have had this problem with the original driver that shipped with the product CD and the problem persists with the latest driver. I have not enabled Hibernation and there are no active power saving modes on the PC.I have reviewed all of the options in the Wireless 600n Properties/Advanced tab and have enabled the Continuously Awake Mode and disabled the Power Saving Mode but the problem persists.
I have two other PCs with the older Linksys wireless WMP300n PCi adapters and they do not exhibit this behaviour after recovering from standby - they reliably reconnect.

So I just bought and recieved a new computer with the wireless WMP600N.
I turned the computer on and a had small lags every 5th second or so which, even though they are small, are pretty annoying. I then tried to look for a reason as to why this happens and what i found out was that if a turn off the wireless internet connection the lag spikes stops and if I turn it on they occour.
My computers specs are:
I7 2600k 4x 3,40ghz
Nvidia geforce GTX 570
8 gb 1600mhz RAM
WMP600N wireless-N PCI
Windows 7 64xbit

I bought the WMP600N because Linksys and Microsoft listed it as 'compatible' for Windows 7 x64. My experience:
- unstable and weak connection
- pings to websites like google.com drops, average: 1 out of 3
- low signal, on the same spot my three years old HP-laptop with 'a build in wireless card' has full signal strength in Windows 7
- it works well under Windows XP (32 bit)
I am convinced that drivers for the WMP600N are not ready for Window 7 x64. Linksys (or Ralink, which developed the chipset), release a proper driver for the WMP600N.

I have a WMP600N in my desktop (win7 x32) and I just got a new router (e2500). I put it on 5ghz only and it won't even pick up the signal. My laptop connects without any problems. It has a Intel Centrino Advanced N 6200. When I go to the properties it only has a short list of things. I also have XP and more options come up.

I've just purchased a new router (WRT160N) and wireless adapter (WMP600N). The problem is that I cannot connect to the router when I have it set to WPA or WPA2. At the same time my laptop with Atheros 9285n connects to router and works perfectly. When the wireless security disabled the wmp600n connects to the router without a problem and shows 300mbps connection speed and laptop 150mbps. When the router is set to WEP both laptop and pc with wmp600n connect but work very slow - 54mbps only.

I've been having major issues with my wireless on this computer (randomly decides not to work while computers in the same room are fine) so I got a new wireless card to see what it could do. Installed it, everything says it's installed fine, but it will NOT detect any wireless networks. Not just mine, any of the 8+ networks I can usually detect from my room. I'm on Win7 Professional 64.
Things I've tried (and I'll be seriously annoyed if people reccomend doing them a 14th time, as I've already spent an hour on livechat with a support person telling me to do things I told her I'd already done):
Installed with 4 different drivers (the ones on the CD, the ones on the website, two versions directly from Ralink for the chipset) Tried both the manual and automatic "update driver" options in device manager. Uninstalled/reinstalled it like 4 times. Moved it to a new PCI slot.
Removed the old adapter before installing it. Removed the old adapter after installing it. Tried connecting to my network as a "hidden" network (which it's not). Installed only the driver and not the adapter utility, and used the utility. Installed the software before physically installing the adapter. Installed it after physically installing the adapter.
I'm at a loss. It doesn't detect ANY networks. No, it's not a problem with my network, there's more than a half dozen that my other adapter, in the same computer, can detect. And I don't know why. It has not ever worked properly. The antennae are on properly, nothing is interfering with it (though that would be odd since it's 3 inches from an adapter that can detect other networks). I might be willing to accept that it's just DoA, but that would be odd considering it installs just fine and reports that it's working just fine.

I'm experiencing problems with the wireless adapter WMP600n. I'm a pc gamer, and as I play I get lag spikes with a ping up to 1000+! Also when I browse the internet, its insanely slow, or sometimes doesn't load at all. I looked for updates and manually installed them but no luck. I'm kind of mad since I spent $80 at staples for it. I'm using it with a wireless g router but I researched it before I bought it and it said it would work with wireless g, and I figured if we ever end up getting a wireless n router, I'll be prepared. Anyways, I want to enjoy my new computer but this gets me pissed.

I recently puchased the WMP600N, connects great, I can browse the internet and even download without a problem. But when I try to play games such as world of warcraft, warcraft 3, (basically games that require immediate constant data transfers), I get 2-4 lag spikes every couple of minutes. As you might notice, this is a huge problem for many online games.

I have tried running all versions of the setup program that came with the adapter. Even when I ran the compatibility program I still get error 211 adapter not recognized. When I looked in the device manager the adapter is listed but with problems. Under properties it shows windows cannot load the drivers required for this device error 31. I also tried updating the drivers from the device manager using the ones I downloaded directly from linksys website. The ones for the 64 bit windows 7?

The latest driver is version 3.2.7 for Windows 7. I am still on the 3.0.2.0 driver which works fine for me. I just wanted to note that the 3.2.7 driver obtained from Windows Update doesn't work well, drops connections and takes longer to establish a connection. I've tried to update twice and each time I go back to the older driver. Can someone at Linksys examine the performance of this driver?

My WMP600N has been giving me some trouble. It randomly, meaning I have been unable to predict the loss in connectivity, drops all wireless connectivity. During one of these blackouts, the device registers as functioning correctly in the device manager. Installation went fine when I bought it last month.I have only noticed this rude interruption during a game of Rift, probably because its impacted so heavily by the interruption.
Further detail:
- The wireless icon continues to display during the loss of connectivity.
- I have another compute and a smart phone which remain connected during the loss of connectivity.
- The duration of the loss of connectivity is approximately 25-30 seconds.

I have been having problems with my Linksys WMP600N adapter and trying to connect to the internet. It started a few weeks ago in my old house, where it wouldn't connect unless I rebooted the router, or it would take a long time (over half an hour after being turned on to connect.)Then when I moved it got worse. At the moment it finds the wireless signals avaiable to it, but when I click connect it fails very quickly. It doesn't even try and connect, as it doesn't ask me for my wireless password. When I do get it connected, if I reboot the router and mess around, it kicks me off after a while, and then instead of showing the network available to connect to, shows it with a red cross beside, and I have to go and edit the security settings, or delete the profile and try and connect again. I have tried googling, but various different searches have turned up empty handed. My desktop is running Win 7 64bitThe rest of the specs are Core i7 920 CPU, Asus P6T Deluxe v2 Mobo, 12Gig RAM, Asus GTX 670 GPU, a Corsair SSD, 2 1TB HDDs and 1 2TB one.My Windows 7 laptop connects fine, and our Media Centre PC had some problems before I was here, but works fine now too.

I just bought a WMP600N adaptor and although windows 7 recognizes it I would like to install the official drivers from Linksys. When I try to update the drivers that I downloaded from the linksys website I het an access denied error. I am logged in as the administrator. I have already tried uninstalling the default drivers, but still I get the access denied error. I even tried the windows safe mode and still got the access denied error.
With the default windows 7 drivers the connection is quite poor. how I can install the official windows 7 drivers?

After recently intalling the WMP600N wireless adapter I have had great trouble getting it working properly.
Current performance
- signal: verygood/ excellent
- download speed: ~1mb
- upload speed: ~2mb
- signal speed: 18-54mbps (lots of variance but never above 54)
Comparison to my laptop
Laptop in same location with wireless G capability
- signal: verygood/ excellent
- download speed: ~20mb
- upload speed: ~2mb
- signal speed: 54mbps
my router is a D-Link wireless N router I recieved from my ISP. I do not believe my router is to blame for this problem since I have a laptop with an inferior wireless adapter recieving 20X the download speed.Drivers I have installed the latest drivers for windows 7 and I am running windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I've purchased a wmp600n pci adapter january this year and installed it with no problems and did not encoutner a single problem with it until today. I use windows 7 64bit.
I've just came back from a 3 week absence and turned on my computer for the first time since i left. I notice that I have no wireless connection. So i go to network connections and realize that my wireless adapter dosent even show up..only my lan card. So i check my device manager, and under network adapters, i can see my wireless adapter, but with an exclamation mark next to it. I check the properties, and under the status box, it gives me this message.Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35).
So i do what it says, and flash my bios to the latest version. After the update, I check the device manager, and the error message is still there. I check my wireless adapter driver version and it is v3.0.2, which is the latest version according to the linksys driver download webpage. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the adapter but no luck there. I also checked to see if maybe there was a problem with my pci slot and that was not the problem because I was able to use my older wireless adapter.

I recently acquired a WMP600N-EU that is running under W7 x64 with the latest Linksys available drivers for download, which unlike the default MS ones, don't enable the Virtual Wifi adapter. Now with this new adapter, the wireless icon starts with the blue circle spinning, and the at the point the other adapter was already connected, it displays the "orange sun" (not connected, connections available) and stays there dead for some 10 seconds. At this point, my router's SSID is already listed. Only after that time it will start to successfully auto-connect to the pre-configured network, whereas windows has already finished loading or the browser launched unable to check mail. This is obviously not a functional fault on the adapter. If I didn't had the previous adapter to compare, I might find it normal. Btw, I've cleaned every previously stored wireless connections.

I ended up with an RMA for a new E4200 ver. 1 and the problem I have still persists. My 2 GHZ WAP gets 65Mbp/s to its connected devices. However, the 5.4 GHZ WAP gets 48 to 54 Mbp/s only.My laptops have Windows 7 and Ubuntu. The WiFi cards are Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 and 6230. Both fluctuate at 48 - 54Mb/s on the the 5.4GHZ channel.
If I put it on Wireless-N only, the laptops cannot connect. I have tried AUTO detection for mhz and channels. I have tried 40mhz with channels 149 and 161 with no difference.Currently, I am operating both WAPs on different SSIDs to make sure my results are separate.Security for both WAPs is WPA2-Personal with a 10 digit sequence.

We've lost our WRT120N's administrator password and are trying to reset it to factory defaults. One peculiar thing that we have noticed is that the router has an IP of 192.168.106.1 rather than the default of 192.168.1.1 (this is verified by the default gateway, as well as a login prompt when 192.168.106.1 is put into a browser).Things we've tried to do to reset the router:
1) Press and hold the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds
2) Press and hold the reset button at the back of the router for 60 seconds
Interestingly, doing either of these things seemed to have no effect on the status lights.

WRT160Nv3 Firmware Version: v3.0.02
I've been using Linksys for years but the last two routers I have purchased have been very problematic.
- My router hasn't had this problem before. The other day I was downloading 4 games at a time from STEAM, when I got home from work I found that my router had completely gone back to factory settings. So I configured my DSL PPPoE, SSID, Wireless Security (WPA) changed the default admin PW and about 20 minutes later it was back to factory again.
I've done a "hard" reset and reconfigured and still it resets itself. What's also upsetting is this completely opens my network up to ANYONE when this happens...
So far in the past 2 days I have (now using a backup restore file) re-configured the device 10 times.
The only thing I can think of is that I just got Windows 7 the same day this started happening. I thought it could be STEAM as well so right now I have STEAM closed to see if it resets while it isn't running.
Could TOO much demand on the router cause it to completely reset itself to factory config?? Seems to me like there's a huge firmware or hardware problem here.
I have other friends and even co-workers that also have problems galore with their Linksys products...No other router it seems has as MANY issues as Linksys. Hat to say it but my next purchase most likely will not be another one of their products. This just shouldn't be happening.
