My pc is windows 7ultimate and my laptop is vista ultimate. the router is connecting fine to the pc. as i try to connect to the laptop it keeps saying unidentified network and local access only. i tired different things but nothing seems to work. it will work only when there is no password on the wireless.
View 3 RepliesWe have 2 HP Pavillon laptops working with a Netgear DG834GT wireless router and both working fine until a week ago. Now one cannot connect wirelessly (but can using ethernet cable) the other is working fine. ISP is Sky. Anti virus on both laptops is Bullguard. It does connect for a minute or so but with poor signal quality and speed of 1mb ps and then drops connection. At first it said unidentified network but after various attempts trying to resolve it does now actually say Home Network but ipv4 connectivity which should say internet says no internet access. It does go back to unidentified network and then back to home network intermitently. The only thing that has been done recently was that my husband connected a Samsung Galaxy 2 Tab to his laptop (daughters christmas present) to download items to it and whilst connected he noticed that Samsung Mobile MTP Device installed something. Could this have caused an issue. He cannot see how to remove this. Below is ipconfig from both laptops

I am suddenly unable to connect to the internet. My signal stregnth is "excellent" to my router, on my desktop but unable to connect to the internet and says "unidentified network" in Network and Sharing Center. Tried to "Diagnose and repair" and automoatic new IP setting prompt but this didint work.
Turned on off, reset, all the basic tricks. I am able to connect wirelessly with my laptop and ipad so it is not a router issue.
I just moved to Auckland, NZ from the USA to go to school at the university here, and am having a problem connecting to the internet in the university residence hall in which I am living.Wifi is not available in the residence halls, so we need to use an Ethernet cable. When I plug in my computer, the network adapter icon says Identifying for a while then settles on Unidentified Network with no internet access, the IP is 169.x.x.x.When I try to release and renew the IP, it says unable to contact your DHCP server, request has timed out".I've tried multiple Ethernet cables, both brand new.I tried connecting to a port in a friend's room in the same building, and even in a classroom on campus, and both had the same result.Naturally after all that I assumed my NIC somehow died overnight while I traveled here, so I went to a computer repair shop expecting to have some hardware replaced, but we plugged it in there and it worked immediately so they weren't sure what to tell me.
I've gone through pages of old threads at this forum and others like it, trying solutions but having no luck.I've power cycled my computer, obviously I can't power cycle the whole network as it's for 200 people, but the IT people here have tried resetting it for me on their end as best they can. It should be noted that I am using powerline adapters for my connection, but as I said, this problem only recently started cropping up. I went fine for almost a week with no problems, then all of a sudden it started happening. Im still able to connect wirelessly so its not too much of an issue, but I prefer via Ethernet..

Last night before I went to bed it was surfing the net fine and then this morning, nothing. No one has touched the laptop overnight and it was switched off all night so I have no idea how this has happened. I'm using my internet connection via my iPhone with no problems. I've already tried several things to try and fix the problem - I've reinstalled all network adapters, have fiddled with IPv4 settings, have deleted and re-setup my network connection, and have restored Windows to a previous point. I can't connect my laptop to the router using a cable because I live in a bock of flats where lots of people share the same router and it's locked in a security box, so I'm just using a wireless connection.

The only way the internet works again is by me tapping the power button and putting it to sleep and turning it back on then the internet works but only for a couple of minutes.
I've tried everything, I've installed the latest wireless driver worked a little then went back to the same problem then I rolled back the driver it worked then it went back to the same problem. I've tried everything I checked power options, I reset the winsock and Ip,I tried a vpn still no luck. If I go to network and sharing center and trouble shoot it say that the adapter is not plugged in or the DHCP is not enabled which it is. Like today I could barely get on because it just showed unidentified network with no hope of connecting. On Xirrus it shows the hotel has more one ssid with the same name.

When I try to connect to the internet, it just says "identifying" then says it is an "unidentified network". I've tried:
Resetting the modem
Checked all cables
Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
Disabled & enabled the drivers
It's set to automatically connect to DNS
Updating the ethernet with the latest from Microsoft
Ran ipconfig /release and renew
Tried another modem and new cables
Tried other houses with DSL & Cable internet
I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been working with a friend set up a brand new laptop with Win-7 Home Premium (64 bit) preinstalled. I did the initial set-up at my home, with the machine connected via broadband internet cable to my router. I had absolutely no problem getting it to connect with the internet. Didn't bother to try getting the thing going wirelessly at my location. During the initial setup, I selected "home" as the network type (as opposed to public, etc.)But, when I took the machine to the owner's home, it wouldn't connect via her broadband modem.
Mousing over the network icon in the tray area brings up a tool-tip baloon, "Unidentified Network, No internet access). Opening the Sharing Center shows the network as "Unidentified Network, Public Network. None of the settings accessible to me from that point seemed useful or relevant.I have not been able to find appropriate settings to redefine the network type, etc. Her old machine, which is in the process of dying, is still able to connect, and I'm using the same cable to connect both machines. To top it off, I very recently upgraded my own laptop to Win-7, so I took it over there and it exhibits the same problem. And, if I bring her machine back to my house it connects right up with no fuss at all.
i can search for networks. As you can tell i am currently on the internet on my laptop. I can search for the current network i am on through my adapter. I then connect to it. It says im connected to a unidentified network. It will not let me search the internet or anything else.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy gateway laptop, running vista 64 home premium, cannot connect to the internet at home. connects straight to the modem via ethernet. displays as 'unidentified network'. according to the Atlantic BB tech(my ISP), my laptop is not obiaining an IP addy from the modem. The modem seems good, and the tech could see the modem from his end, but no IP addy from the laptop. ran ipconfig /all from home and the gateway was 207.255.36.1(preferred) instead of 192.168.x.x So i'm stumped with no net at home. the ipv4 properties do have the obtain automatically button checked, and dhcp is enabled. had the tech reset the provisioning on the modem & he said the mac addresses were cleared already. i reset the ipv4, ipv6, and winsock. haven't gotten anywhere. tech's last advice was to bring the modem back and swap it for another one.

Every body is assigned manual lan ip like 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, etc and subnet 255.255.255.0, to access some resources between the computers. Today we formatted one computer in the lan network and changed it to windows 7 from xp, then put manual like before like 192.168.0.x but now it shows "unidentified network" though it works. I mean even though it shows unidentified network it works and it can access the other computers.I wonder then why it shows unidentified network now, before formatting in xp it was showing connected or enabled. Even now in other computers, it's good.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDuring this time we've had two different Internet Service Providers as well as two different modems. Also we've had 9 different devices connected to modem wirelessly. ( 2 Desktops, 3 laptops, 2 Xbox 360s, and 2 Nintendo Dss ) And this desktop is the only one that has had any issues, it's also the oldest of the devices. So I doubt the issue lies within networking but more with the actual desktop. I've even conneceted the desktop straight to the modem with an ethernet cord, also to no avail.
View 1 Replies View Relatedok i did the cmd ipconfig and it says media state disconnected.also i uninstall a network adapter it was the isatap one also it had a yellow mark one it so thats why i tryed to uninstall it i thought it would let me install it agian but it didnt so i did that add legacy hardware so now it shows it in the hidden devices tad with out that yellow mark also when i try the problem and solution found the isatap sayinf could not load driver software click on it and it says windows was able to successfully install device driver software but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run.the problem code is 31. the control panel tad would all was say microsoft windows came up saying window explorer has stopped working windows is checking for solution to the problem windows explorer the internet was working then and it still was i think it had that internet ball on it but when i try to use the internet it wouldnt connect

I am connected to the router but it says unidentified network, local only...When I lost connectivity I spoke to my ISP provider and they took me through all the steps then determined that it is the router that is at fault and are sending me a new one. HOWEVER after I hung up I remembered I have an old router so I tried that one, same thing, then my neighbours gave me access to their wi-fi, same thing.... so suspecting that it is not the router I have dug out an old laptop which now connects fine to my router wirelessly.

This part works fine, never had any issue with internet.Each of the computers also have its own GBE adapter but i wasn't really using them. Until now, i bought a switch and connected all 4 computers through rj-45 to the switch just so i could transfer files easier and especially much faster than through the wireless.This is where my problem is, the network works, i can see and transfer files just fine, the issue being, on each and every computer, the lan is considered as unidentified public network. I've tried everything i could think of, yet, nothing, i can't change the status of the lan connection.

Woke up around 9am, sat back down, Unidentified network and No Internet access. That's where this god-awful day began. I've tried so many things (from tech forums) I may forget a few... I've tried disabling IPv6, disabling Bonjour, enabling/disabling the adapter card, all kinds of stuff in the command prompt... reset this, flush that, restart restart restart restart restart. I uninstalled the adapter driver, rebooted, installed the latest from a flash drive, didn't do anything. Really the only suggestion I haven't taken is recovering Win7 from factory specs and reinstalling about everything since one guy said that still didn't fix it and this is causing enough trouble already without more misery in the mix.

Acing some issues with my Belkin router, I can connect to it wirelessly and maintain an Internet connection. Sometimes I notice on my wifi signal symbol in my task bar that the connection closes and reconnects. This doesn't bother me too much, however, after doing that I don't know how many times it will reconnect but the network will not identify, which as you would know that if it cannot identify the network the access is limited and therefore I cannot connect to the Internet. I know it is a long winded problem but I am struggling to find out why this is happening. It is a Belkin f5d8636-4 v2 modem and a tp-link wireless adapter for my pc (achieving a 300mb/s wireless connection)...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI been struggling to repair my internet connection for more than a month now and i haven't found an answer yet. what happens is that every time i re-start my computer or some some time it just disappeared, my net connection. In order to get my connection back there are a lot of different procedures and mix up that i'll have to go through until one of them hit something and return the connection back up. Below are the action so far i have taken:
1. Re-start my computer.
2. Re-start my router
3. Intentionally plug out and plug in the hard wire connection.
4. Change the adapter settings by disabling and enabling it.
5. Do the re-installment of the network through device manager and so on...
i even have tried re-installing my windows 7 but still the problem persist.i have un-install my built in anti-virus esset thinking it may have some how contributed in the disturbance.
