Unable To Connect Wirelessly / Unidentified Network
Dec 29, 2012
We have 2 HP Pavillon laptops working with a Netgear DG834GT wireless router and both working fine until a week ago. Now one cannot connect wirelessly (but can using ethernet cable) the other is working fine. ISP is Sky. Anti virus on both laptops is Bullguard. It does connect for a minute or so but with poor signal quality and speed of 1mb ps and then drops connection. At first it said unidentified network but after various attempts trying to resolve it does now actually say Home Network but ipv4 connectivity which should say internet says no internet access. It does go back to unidentified network and then back to home network intermitently. The only thing that has been done recently was that my husband connected a Samsung Galaxy 2 Tab to his laptop (daughters christmas present) to download items to it and whilst connected he noticed that Samsung Mobile MTP Device installed something. Could this have caused an issue. He cannot see how to remove this. Below is ipconfig from both laptops
The first one is working fine

I am suddenly unable to connect to the internet. My signal stregnth is "excellent" to my router, on my desktop but unable to connect to the internet and says "unidentified network" in Network and Sharing Center. Tried to "Diagnose and repair" and automoatic new IP setting prompt but this didint work.
Turned on off, reset, all the basic tricks. I am able to connect wirelessly with my laptop and ipad so it is not a router issue.
My pc is windows 7ultimate and my laptop is vista ultimate. the router is connecting fine to the pc. as i try to connect to the laptop it keeps saying unidentified network and local access only. i tired different things but nothing seems to work. it will work only when there is no password on the wireless.
We have 2 computers the main one running OS XP and mine running Vista. Previously, we had no problems with my computer finding the main on the network along with the printer. But now the main computer can see mine (printer and PC) but I cannot connect to the main. Mine does not see the printer nor the PC. We are both running the same virus protection, which is Norton. I really want to use the main computer's printer, which I was able to do until for some reason now I go into networking and it is not there. I know it is marked as shared. When I go into setup network printer and type the name of the printer a window pops up "The printer sever spooling service is not available". I have uninstalled the printer software and drivers and reinstalled but still not showing up on the network? When I click print a document the printer I am looking for is there but it shows as offline, which it is not. I am not 100% sure but seemed to occur when we switched from Mckfee to Norton?
I'll try and keep this brief, we were having problems with our netgear router (DGN1000) mainly with connection when online gaming with PS3, generally poor connection - so purchased a TP-Link router (TD-W8960N). We could usually access the netgear wirelessly on our laptops Dell and Acer Aspire 4820T (both Windows 7) without any problems and were still doing so last night. However hubby attempted to install the new router last night and all seemed to go fine but after installing we couldn't connect to the wireless network through laptops, iphone ps3 etc - even though we could see the network with excellent strength, after hours of trying called TP-Link they went through everything they could think of and still no joy. Gave up in the end and went to reinstall the netgear Router and now we have the same problem with this router, even though earlier in the night it wasn't a problem - we deleted the previous networks so there was nothing stored in memory & tried everything we can think of (although neither of us are brilliant with IT we do usually get by).We even set up an unsecured wireless network (on both routers) and still couldn't connect?
I just moved to Auckland, NZ from the USA to go to school at the university here, and am having a problem connecting to the internet in the university residence hall in which I am living.Wifi is not available in the residence halls, so we need to use an Ethernet cable. When I plug in my computer, the network adapter icon says Identifying for a while then settles on Unidentified Network with no internet access, the IP is 169.x.x.x.When I try to release and renew the IP, it says unable to contact your DHCP server, request has timed out".I've tried multiple Ethernet cables, both brand new.I tried connecting to a port in a friend's room in the same building, and even in a classroom on campus, and both had the same result.Naturally after all that I assumed my NIC somehow died overnight while I traveled here, so I went to a computer repair shop expecting to have some hardware replaced, but we plugged it in there and it worked immediately so they weren't sure what to tell me.
I've gone through pages of old threads at this forum and others like it, trying solutions but having no luck.I've power cycled my computer, obviously I can't power cycle the whole network as it's for 200 people, but the IT people here have tried resetting it for me on their end as best they can. I am unable to connect to my network using my d-link wireless adapter. I am able to connect to my neighbor's network and other devices in my house can use my network with no problem. I am absolutely positive that I'm inputting the right password, but am unable to connect.
I'm having a big problem with my connectivity. I can connect to the internet (a BT Home Hub router) using my ethernet cable but not using wireless. My computer is searching and finding wireless networks, but when I try to connect to my router, it says limited access/connectivity.
I haven't used my computer in quite a long time (7 months) as it stopped working and is miraculously working again now (huzzah!) but the wireless does not, when it was perfect previously.
I have run IPCONFIG/ALL and the details are below. This is done with the ethernet cable attached.
---------------- Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
-Tried to connect to internet, got message "unable to connect to proxy server"
-Decided this proxy stuff isn't worth it, deleted the proxy extension
-Reset router
-Now wireless isn't working on ANY laptop- it shows a connection available but cannot connect to it, however wired connection works (and is how I'm on here right now)Is this as simple as setting up a new wireless connection?
-went under "proxy server" under "LAN settings" in ctrl panel
-The box which stated "use a proxy for LAN" was checked, and the address and port I obtained from hidemyass were underneath
-I unchecked the box, applied the new settings, and reset my router
I'm using Untangle on my clients wireless network. It handles all the DHCP and DNS requests. I'm using the web filter option as well. There are two access points, one on upper level and one on lower level. All connect into a switch and then into the optional port on the firewall. Firewall is not set up to give out DHCP leases. Pretty basic setup. Ever since I got Untangle up and running ive noticed my laptop, which has Win 7 as O/S will connect to wireless network, i can ping untangle box, and access point. But no internet. Signal bar shows I have limited connectivity. I thought it was just something on my laptop and set the issue aside. For the record I've never had any issue with connecting to a wireless network with this laptop, at home Im using Ubuntu server to handle all my DHCP, DNS requests on both my wired and wireless network. Never had a problem. Now this client is a library. And I talk to the director, and she has gotten complaints that any patron that uses Win 7 can not connect to wireless. When I'm not there we have a laptop that uses XP, it connects fine. All other patrons that use XP connect without a problem.
I switched on my laptop today and it wouldn't connect to the internet because of an 'unidentified network' problem. Last night before I went to bed it was surfing the net fine and then this morning, nothing. No one has touched the laptop overnight and it was switched off all night so I have no idea how this has happened. I'm using my internet connection via my iPhone with no problems. I've already tried several things to try and fix the problem - I've reinstalled all network adapters, have fiddled with IPv4 settings, have deleted and re-setup my network connection, and have restored Windows to a previous point. I can't connect my laptop to the router using a cable because I live in a bock of flats where lots of people share the same router and it's locked in a security box, so I'm just using a wireless connection.
Right now I've been staying at a hotel and my internet doesn't work while my brothers laptop connects flawlessly. The only way the internet works again is by me tapping the power button and putting it to sleep and turning it back on then the internet works but only for a couple of minutes.
I've tried everything, I've installed the latest wireless driver worked a little then went back to the same problem then I rolled back the driver it worked then it went back to the same problem. I've tried everything I checked power options, I reset the winsock and Ip,I tried a vpn still no luck. If I go to network and sharing center and trouble shoot it say that the adapter is not plugged in or the DHCP is not enabled which it is. Like today I could barely get on because it just showed unidentified network with no hope of connecting. On Xirrus it shows the hotel has more one ssid with the same name.
I have a compaq Presario CQ 60 windows vista 32 bit. I cannot connect to my centurytel westell 7500. I was able to connect to the westell versalink 327W but when I upgraded to the 7500 I havnt been able to connect wirelessly. I can with the Ethernet but not wirelessly. My wifi network adapter is a atheros AR5007 802.11b/g.
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium ACER Aspire X3400 Nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 ethernet Cable internet SB1502 Cable modem
When I try to connect to the internet, it just says "identifying" then says it is an "unidentified network". I've tried:
Resetting the modem Checked all cables Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers Disabled & enabled the drivers It's set to automatically connect to DNS Updating the ethernet with the latest from Microsoft Ran ipconfig /release and renew Tried another modem and new cables Tried other houses with DSL & Cable internet
I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.
I recently configured a linksys range extender to my modem and since doing that, I'm getting a message stating that there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network. When I set up the range extender, I assigned an IP address to it that was different from the modem but yet this message still appears. Also even though my wireless connection is connected, I'm unable to connect to the internet - I keep getting the message 'internet explorer cannot display webpage'.
Just recently im having trouble connecting to the wireless Using my hp laptop. The Wireless Was previously working fine though recently, has stopped working, all the other devices on the wireless network work fine (Asus Laptop, Iphone's etc). The hp laptop has no problem in connecting to the neighbours wireless and picking up a signal, however, when i go to search for the WAG320N im unable to find it in the list, sometimes it does appear, but after double clicking has trouble connecting to the wireless and will then dissapear from the list. I have tried manually entering the SSID and Password and seeing if it would connect, and also manually entering the IP address however no luck, no other device on the network has trouble finding the broadcast Signal Apart from the HP DV6-3139TX
Im running a linksys wireless router, WRT54G V6 with firmware 1.02.8. It worked before I moved after I moved I can't connect via wireless. hard line works. i've tried resting to factor, i've tried not using ses, not using custom ssid. I've rest it like 5 times retarted the computers. I've hit the little cisco systems button on the front, this makes it work for a few minutes. When I hit the button it will go out then come back on white, and blink around 1-2 blinks per second, it will do this for maybe 1-2min. then stops and changes back to orange. and i get nothing from it. the WLAN light is on like it's working but I cannot detect it with my desktop or laptop, can i can detect 3 other routers around me. I've tried pretty much everything i know to do, tried flashing it, updating, about the only option i have left is throwing it out the window.
I'm using E4200 with latest 1.0.02 firmware and found I can not connect to VPN with my iPhone4 by WiFi.Googled a bit and found it's a common problem for Cisco routers when wireless devices can not connect to VPN but wired ones connects with no problems.\
I have Windows 7 on Dell N4110. I am unable to connect to my netgear router wirelessly. If i restart the router, it may work for some time but then again gets disconnected. However, i can connect to it through wired connection. Others in my apartment can connect to the router. They dont have windows 7 (they use vista, ubuntu). Its working fine for them. I have tried many things like updating the router, disabling firewall, changing wireless security settings, updating windows but none of them seem to work. My friend who has the same laptop also cant connect when I cant. As soon as my connection is disconnected, his also disconnects.
I have a WRT610 and am unable to connect any devices wirelessly. All the lights on the right hand side of the router are on except for the USB connection....what am I doing wrong? The router has worked for about a year flawlessly and last night all wireless connections quit.
I have been working with a friend set up a brand new laptop with Win-7 Home Premium (64 bit) preinstalled. I did the initial set-up at my home, with the machine connected via broadband internet cable to my router. I had absolutely no problem getting it to connect with the internet. Didn't bother to try getting the thing going wirelessly at my location. During the initial setup, I selected "home" as the network type (as opposed to public, etc.)But, when I took the machine to the owner's home, it wouldn't connect via her broadband modem.
Mousing over the network icon in the tray area brings up a tool-tip baloon, "Unidentified Network, No internet access). Opening the Sharing Center shows the network as "Unidentified Network, Public Network. None of the settings accessible to me from that point seemed useful or relevant.I have not been able to find appropriate settings to redefine the network type, etc. Her old machine, which is in the process of dying, is still able to connect, and I'm using the same cable to connect both machines. To top it off, I very recently upgraded my own laptop to Win-7, so I took it over there and it exhibits the same problem. And, if I bring her machine back to my house it connects right up with no fuss at all.
Namely an Unidentified Network with no NETWORK access. Some information first, the NIC that Im using is the Realtek PCIe Family Controller, Ive updated the drivers, Ive uninstalled, Ive reinstalled. Ive basically been on the internet for the past two days trying all the solutions. Including refreshing and renewing my ip, trying a static ip (although, Im still not sure if I did this step correctly) Ive tried disabling IPV6, Ive tried adjusting my speedflux. The problem is also intermittent with seemingly no reason whatsoever, some days Ill go without internet for the entire day, then the next day Ill boot up my computer and Ill have internet again. It should be noted that when I enable WIRELESS on my laptop, Im able to connect to the network, but when I enable wired, I am not able to.
Here is the ipconfig /all for when Im connected wirelessly and have a connection.

It should be noted that I am using powerline adapters for my connection, but as I said, this problem only recently started cropping up. I went fine for almost a week with no problems, then all of a sudden it started happening. Im still able to connect wirelessly so its not too much of an issue, but I prefer via Ethernet..

Including refreshing and renewing my ip, trying a static ip (although, I'm still not sure if I did this step correctly) I've tried disabling IPV6, I've tried adjusting my speedflux, believe me I've tried just about everything, I don't have one blue link left when it comes to my google searches on fixing this problem. The problem is also intermittent with seemingly no reason whatsoever, some days Ill go without internet for the entire day, then the next day I'll boot up my computer and I'll have internet again. I want to create a home network between a desktop (W7 64 Ultimate) and a laptop (W7 64 Home Premium), wireless.Router is TP Link TL-WR941N, AP (for desktop) is TL-WA701N. From the laptop the network map shows all devices, but the desktop is not connected to the AP.
I was trying to configure a friend's router, but their laptop wouldn't connect wirelessly. Initially, I couldn't connect via ethernet cable either, but I went into the settings and set it to obtain an IP address automatically. After that, I could connect via ethernet no problem.I was able to successfully connect wirelessly on two different mobile phones.I still can't connect wirelessly to this router (well, technically it says it's connected to the network, but it won't connect to the internet, nor can I bring up the hub settings). However, I can connect to their old router no problem. I'm not sure whether the problem lies with the laptop or the router, and don't presently have another laptop to check

My laptop was fine until I got an I pad for Christmas. It took me two weeks to figure out how to get the I pad online...should have been minutes I am told.now my laptop is off and I can not get it back on line..
