My laptop was fine until I got an I pad for Christmas. It took me two weeks to figure out how to get the I pad online...should have been minutes I am told.now my laptop is off and I can not get it back on line..
View 1 RepliesI've been through pages and pages of Google and Bing searches, and I've found plenty who have this issue, but none who seem to get it solved. Three computers, all running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, are members of a Homegroup that functioned perfectly for more than a year until Tuesday of this week. On Tuesday, I installed Windows updates and also updated from Norton 360 v5 to v6.Computer A and B don't have password protected logins to Windows; Computer C is password protected. Until Tuesday, A and B have never been required to enter a password to access shared files and folders on C. Computer A still communicates fine in both directions with B and C, without having to enter C's Windows login credentials. B can be accessed by C, but when B attempts to access the C libraries that are shared by C to the Homegroup, the appropriate shared folders are shown (Documents, Pictures, etc.), but instead of their usual icons, the icons look like this: url... and if I try to click on them, I am prompted for a Network Password like this: url... The name following "Enter your network password to connect to:" is the name of C, and the "Domain" shown below the password block is the name of B. (Domains aren't even possible with Home Premium, are they?)
If I enter C's username and password I can access C from B, but upon rebooting B it starts all over again, even if I click "Remember my credentials." Sometimes I don't get the prompt and instead am told that I don't have permission to view
we were having problems with our netgear router (DGN1000) mainly with connection when online gaming with PS3, generally poor connection - so purchased a TP-Link router (TD-W8960N). We could usually access the netgear wirelessly on our laptops Dell and Acer Aspire 4820T (both Windows 7) without any problems and were still doing so last night. However hubby attempted to install the new router last night and all seemed to go fine but after installing we couldn't connect to the wireless network through laptops, iphone ps3 etc - even though we could see the network with excellent strength, after hours of trying called TP-Link they went through everything they could think of and still no joy. Gave up in the end and went to reinstall the netgear Router and now we have the same problem with this router, even though earlier in the night it wasn't a problem - we deleted the previous networks so there was nothing stored in memory & tried everything we can think of (although neither of us are brilliant with IT we do usually get by).We even set up an unsecured wireless network (on both routers) and still couldn't connect .

Initially, I couldn't connect via ethernet cable either, but I went into the settings and set it to obtain an IP address automatically. After that, I could connect via ethernet no problem.I was able to successfully connect wirelessly on two different mobile phones.I still can't connect wirelessly to this router (well, technically it says it's connected to the network, but it won't connect to the internet, nor can I bring up the hub settings). However, I can connect to their old router no problem. I'm not sure whether the problem lies with the laptop or the router, and don't presently have another laptop to check

View 2 Replies View RelatedI set up a DIR-655 router for a friend 4 years ago and it's worked reliably with all of their equipment since. They have wireless printers, iMacs, pc laptops and iPhone 4S's, all connecting without any problems. Recently, they got an iPhone5 and it will not connect to their home wireless automatically, they have to re-enter the password each time. They've tested their iPhone 5 on other networks and they do not have to re-enter the password. Apple and ATT are blaming the router. I do not live near them and I'm going to have to facilitate them remotely. At this point, I believe their router is configured with WPA2, but I can't be sure. Which configuration will work with the iPhone 5, as well as their other, older, devices that have worked for 4 years

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an E2500 router. When I enter 192.168.1.1 as a web address I am asked for a User name and password. When I do not enter anything for user name and put “admin” in password the screen again asks me for the same two things and eventually goes to a 401 message.
When I enter admin in user name and my secure password to allow devises to connect to the network it lets me in. I thought the password to enter the system settings and the one to enter the network are usually separate. When I open the Cisco Connect program and go into the various menus there my “secure” password is written and visible for anyone who clicks it. Is this how it is supposed to work?Also, how do I occasionally change the password to enter into the network.
My laptop can no longer connect to my home network. It used to connect fine, but I was having problems with my graphics card as every time I went on Youtube it would crash. As a result, I sent it into ASUS (it is an ASUS K52J Series) and got the motherboard and the hard drive replaced. After this, my laptop seemed to be working great. It connected to a variety of networks, including 3 home networks, and 2 public networks. However, it cannot connect to the network in my apartment.
I know this network works and is connectable as my roommate's laptop works perfectly fine. So I know it is not a problem with my laptop since it connects to other networks, and I know it is not the network since other laptops connect to it. I've tried resetting my adapter, I've tried turning off the firewall. Also, I've tried the trouble shooting option numerous times after trying a variety of things that usually fix the connectivity, but it always says that the problem cannot be detected.
It's starting to be really frustrating, especially since I'm in university and sharing a laptop when both my roommate and I need to do work is not convenient.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to create a network for file sharing, as have upgraded the 'server' (part of a Workgroup, not a Domain) from WinXP to Win7 and experienced problems ever since. Ironically the problems haven't mainly been with sharing files between Win7 and WinXP systems, but between 2 Win7 systems. I bought a new Win7 laptop and tried to connect it to the server, but it hasn't had Read/Write privileges over the files in the Win7 server. Entering a username and password to gain access to the servers folders has not been a problem, and as far as I know, opening files such as documents has not been a problem either. However, when trying to save an edited document, access is denied, and if I try to open an executable file (this is necessary for a node installation), it prompts me for a network password. Every combination possible of username and password from the 2 systems (including '' or 'SYSTEMNAME' before the username) has not worked. I tried syncing the times which was apparently a previous problem, but to no avail. I am unable to access Local Security Policy, as the server is running off Home Premium. I have tried creating a new workgroup, removing and changing passwords, enabling guest access to the network through the Windows Resource Kit Command Shell, creating identical users on both computers, but nothing appears to have worked.

The homehub works perfectly and I have other laptops in the house connecting via the wireless networkHowever, this is the problem. The Wireless connection status shows as good but packets only being sent and not received. View 1 Replies View RelatedI received a new hard drive along with recovery discs from dell yesterday. They told me the new drive would be blank and I would have to run the discs. Not a problem. Installed the OS along with the drivers that had check marks next to them.
Today I plug in my home internet and it won't work. Unplug it and turn the wireless back on and it gets online just fine.
I'm having a big problem with my connectivity. I can connect to the internet (a BT Home Hub router) using my ethernet cable but not using wireless. My computer is searching and finding wireless networks, but when I try to connect to my router, it says limited access/connectivity.
I haven't used my computer in quite a long time (7 months) as it stopped working and is miraculously working again now (huzzah!) but the wireless does not, when it was perfect previously.
I have run IPCONFIG/ALL and the details are below. This is done with the ethernet cable attached.

At first some massege appeared saying that there are 2 identical IP's and there is a conflict or something like that. Now it just stops trying to connect to the network. I can connect with my own laptop tho.

I took the laptop to a pc repair shop and it connected wirelessly there withouto a problem; I also took it to Best Buy and was able to connect wirelessly there as well). It will not connect to the internet at a Bloodbank I visit twice a week. It will connect to their wireless network, and gets a strong signal, but no internet. Other people at this facility seen to have no problem connecting to the internet. I tried downloading updated drivers for my wireless card, but it said I already had the latest drivers. I have turned off my firewall and changed to the lowest security settings. I don't know what to do.
