I want to keep my documents on my XP SP2 machine, but be able to edit them from a windows 7 laptop. Points so far:1. I can print from windows 7 to XP OK.2. Before I re-installed XP this was working fine.3. The workgroups match4. I can see the XP files on the windows 7 machine5. When I click on an XP file on the windows 7 machine, it goes very slowly, then gives a "Not Accessible" error.6. I have not used passwords to set this up.

The screen has only the option for 1 video channel. I have seen on-line screen shots that have options for channel 1 through 8. I want to assign each camera to a different channel so I will be able to use remote live view to show all 4 cameras at the same time. I can only show one at a time. Do I need a different version than 3.3 or some obscure windows 7 setting?

I recently upgrading the main computer from XP to Win7, as well as upgraded the TV computer from Win98 to XP. The laptop and main computer are fine. The problem arises when I try to access files from either the laptop or main computer from the TV computer.I've also read something about that the user name and password has to be the same on all the computers on the network, but that doesn't really make sense. The laptop and main computer don't have the same user name and they work fine. Besides, before I disabled password file sharing, I entered the proper name and password for the main computer and it still wouldn't let me connect.

We are running sage accounts system and i cant connect to the main computer that is acting as the hub which runs of windows xp to acces the sage data.The main computer is visible on the network along with all other computers on the network but i cannot connect to it. when i click on it a box appears titles 'windows security' it asks me to 'enter network password' and says below 'enter your network password to connect to cornwall-31aae0' which is the name for the hub pc.
I type in the username and password for that computer and press ok and nothing happens the box flashes and remains the same as if stuck in a continual loop. i have tried various combinations of usernames and passwords including using the computer name as a username and none work.i have played around with the settings changing workgroups and network names etc to match the hub pc and none work either. i have disabled and enabled password protected sharing etc and none of this works either. i seem to have tried everything and also tried matching the settings so that it is the same to another pc on the network running windows 7 also but still makes no difference.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to transfer my old files (pics, documents, music) from my 6 year old Macbook Pro to my new Windows 7 desktop that I built about a month ago. I'm having a really hard time getting the files to transfer over. I've tried extensively to network them through my home wireless to no avail. I tried setting up a workgroup and having my mac manually join to no avail. I know there should be a way to transfer these files quickly over my home network.
The real problem I am having is that my mac isn't showing up as a computer on my network on the PC. I can get the pc to show up as a computer on the mac, but it doesn't show my user profile and all the folders are empty. I've gone into the share settings on both machines and made everything as open and shared as possible, still not showing up. Any foolproof way to quickly transfer files between these machines?
I'm running a desktop pc with Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit, connected to the network via ethernet, and a laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit connected to the network via ethernet and wireless. The homegroup name is the same on both machines.
When I go to network places on either computer, the other is not visible. I tried pinging the desktop's IP address from the laptop, and the request timed out. I tried pinging from the desktop to the laptop, and it timed out.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my network, I have 2 PCs running Windows 7 Ult, and 2 PCs running WinXP-Pro.When my XP PCs browse a shared folder living on a Win7 PC, not all files or folders are listed. It is as if once a certain number of filenames have been listed, something gives up.For example, on my WIndows 7 PC, I have a folder with about 400 folders of pictures. The XP PCs only see about 300 folders. The number is consistent as far as the number of folders the XP clients see. It is not a permission problem, because if I move some of the low-numbered folders out of the share, then the names at the bottom of the folder list start to appear.I even copied all picture folders to the other Windows 7 PC, and created a fresh share and still the XP clients only see the same limited number of folders or files. It also seems to be based on a percentage, and not a finite limit of file or folder names. For example, if I have 700 objects in a folder, only 500 are visible on the client. If I have 400 objects in a folder, only 300 are visible.

I can access files on her computer, and she can access files from mine (photos, music, video, etc.). I set up a shortcut icons on her desktop for easy access to specific folders I am sharing on my computer. Unfortunately, when I share a folder on my computer, she is unable to view any files added after I initially shared it. So I routinely have to go in and share the folder again. It's not a huge issue, but it is annoying. The limitation seems to be one way, as I can access newly added files on her computer, without resharing.

I have an EDIMAX BR-6228nC 150 Mbps broadband router to which my desktop is wired and the laptop connects through WiFi. The speeds never go above 2.5MBps, so there should be plenty of bandwidth left for Internet use. My router config confirms that there's no Internet connection while transferring the files.

I have found many well meaning suggestions to resolve this annoying aspect of networking between Windows 7, Vista and XP but it seems like we are all banging our heads against a brick wall. I have tried every suggestion I can find on other forums but still my Windows 7 computer cannot access my XP Home or Vista machines. The message I see each time I try is as follows:- "\WINXP (or \VISTA) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. The account is not authorised to log in from this station." You will of course appreciate that the 'administrator' is myself. I can access files and a printer on Windows 7 from the other two computers providing I place shared files in the public folder ... no problem with this.
I have checked that all three computers have the same Workgroup Name. Yes, I have got Network Discovery turned on. Yes, I have turned on file and printer sharing. Yes, I have turned off Password protected sharing (and tried it turned on). Yes, I have set my network location to Work network. Yes, the computers I am trying to access do show in my network window ... each and everyone of them can be pinged from each other. I even have a little utility called Wireless Network Watcher that shows that the IP addresses, MAC addresses and each computer by name can be seen on the network.
I have a Toshiba Win 7 laptop and a custom-built (JNCS) XP desktop. Both access the Internet thru a D-Link router. I would like to be able to access the working files on each computer from the other. I have changed the workgroup name on my Win 7 laptop to the same name as the workgroup on my XP desktop. I have gone thru the instructions Microsoft gives you, but they are FAR from clear because things don't happen or choices are not available that they reference.

Basically, what I did was turn off password required sharing or whatever, so all I had to do was click on networks in the left side panel when i was in My Computer and click on say, my wifes laptop and it'd open the public folder she had there, and I could drag and drop stuff into and out of it. And same for her and seeing mine.
Now that I have windows 8 on my PC It's all buggered up.
I didn't change ANY settings on HER laptop, but when I try and access it (I used it to back up important files while fresh installing w8) it's asking me for a username and password
When I looked up "setup home wifi network windows 7" I had no idea what I was reading after I got as far as setting up an ad hoc connection on my windows 7 laptop.I need to take beyond what I've done to get this going? And when I go to Network and Sharing Center, on "View your active networks" part, I click joined to give check mark on Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents, and Printers (the default setting: only printers that got checked). After I checked those all, I click "Save changes". But, if I go back to click "Joined" It was set as default, it is like it doesn't save my setting.
