However, when i connect them together,the ethernet light on the router remains stable as if connected but still the desktop shows not connected. This time i have installed the drivers which came from the motherboard manufacturer and are the latest. In the Network and Sharing Center, the icon is enabled. It does not show cross sign.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine
-Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically
-Checking the connection on another computer, works fine.
-Disabling the IpV6
-Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup
-Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter
-System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.

For the past few days my laptop's connect has been really spiky and constantly D/Cs. So I turn on my other laptop to check and its connect works. Then I check my current laptop and the connection works now too. Long story short, I found out that if I turn on my old laptop (also connected thro wireless) my current laptop is able to connect flawlessly. I tried it the other way around, turning off my current laptop and only using my old and it works so it must be a problem with my current laptop.

The thing is when i connect the modem to my laptop via ethernet cable internet works but not when i connect the cable to the router even though this worked before. actually a few hours before. so i dont know whats happened to my router since clearly the problem is in there. the modem has lights for PC Cable DATA and POWER. The lights to all of them blink when i have connected the modem directly to laptop but the PC light is non existent when i connect it to router. hence i get no internet access. the routers power is on so i dont know what the prob is ive rebooted it a few times but to no avail.

I was having internet problems pior to this happening (internet was being very slow and some web pages and some videos wouldn't load. I think the latter had to do with flash player though.) I had also been doing some stupid stuff on my comp that I know can give you viruses. Furthermore I also knew that due to previous virus's I was not able to do a restore. So as you have probably gathered my computer was pretty buggered even before this problem. So decided to restore to factory default using some backup images I made when I first got the comp. That went smoothly however the internet stilll doesn't work unless I plus it in using a ethernet cable.

my laptop when I'm on any web browser (Chrome, IE, Firefox, etc.) it will say I'm not connected to the internet and stay that way for a minute. Any downloads and stuff I have going still download though and it shos that I am still connected to the internet with excellent strength. This happens with both wireless and Ethernet connection. The only way I can fix it is by disconnecting form the internet and connecting again, even that though only works for like 20 seconds and then it says I'm disconnected again and I have to disconnect and reconnect again.
I don't think its internet connection point either because all my friends and school laptops and desktops have no problems connecting and don't disconnect.

When I uninstall the software my connection is fine. I am using an Ethernet connection by the way. I think it is being blocked by the component called Network iControl. View 1 Replies View RelatedIt pretty much just stopped working one day. I have reset my router completely. I have tried the netsh commands. I have tried using different dns ip addresses. I have released and renewed ipconfig. I have reset both my cable modem and my wireless router. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless drivers and made sure they were up to date. None of these things worked.
Here is the story. My laptop will not connect to the internet even though it says it is connected and shows the SSID when you hover over the wireless on the bottom. I have an iPad, iPhone, and another laptop connected to this exact wireless connection. The laptop that does not connect (the one i am having problems with) recently connected to another home wireless network this past weekend in another house so it is not the card in the laptop. It seems to be settings in this particular laptop with just this wireless connection as the wired connection using the same router works just fine. It DOES NOT time out when I ping websites in the command prompt. I get returned values. I have tried several browsers and none of them work. It will not connect to AIM either. I have spent many hours trying to figure out what the hell has changed and why this connection won't work. I really need this connection for work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop normally always works on the wireless network, but every now and then its randomly stopped working and said "identifying network" followed by "could not identify network, unidentified network." When i would troubleshoot it would say stuff about the default gateway and not a valid ip address. THis was fine because it would always just start working on its own in a day or so. A couple of weeks ago, my wireless connection was getting slower and slower. As one day it decided to get extremely slow, I decided to uninstall the wireless card via device manager and reinstall it. Once this had been completed, the wireless just stopped working. The signal bar came up with zero and had a big red X in it. It works fine with ethernet cable but just won't seem to work as a wifi connector.
I have reinstalled all drivers and everything is enabled. When troubleshooting, it comes up with a possible problem with driver. Once this has been resolved it is then a problem with the network. The router is fine as I am able to connect on every other device in the house. I even purchased a USB wifi adaptor in the event of the Wireless card packing in but this is still creating the same problem. I used system restore to roll back the laptop to a time when the wireless worked and it didn't seem to work at all.

(Laptop is company owned with standard type of corporate AD authentication and image) my wireless setting use WPA2 personal with AES encryption. use both N & G, auto rate and scan.any time this laptop connected the wireless crashed, other devices didn't show SSID (both main and guest)But wired connection continued to work fine.
