Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.1 - Service Selection Rule And Machine Authentication

Nov 7, 2011

- I have a cisco unified network (ACS 5.1, Cisco controller, LWAP) and have configured ACS to integrate with AD.

- I am using this network for Laptops and wireless IP phones access.

- I have only one Service Selection rule for both Laptops and wireless IP phones. All the conditions attributes are set to ANY except Protocol = Radius

- I select a simple Identity Policy and I use a sequence where IP phones users are authenticated using ACS local user and the Laptops users are authenticated using AD

- Laptop users are authenticated using PEAP and IP phones users using EAP-Fast

Everything is working fine BUT I need to make 2 changes and eventhough  I spent many hours hours on forums and reading articles and trying things myself I can't get the changes to work.

The first change is to use 2 Service Selection Rules one for the IP phones and one for the Laptops. After adding another service selection rules that I put at the top, I tried many combinations to try and get the IP phones to use it but whatever I did (used different combinations of conditions), the IP phones always select the 2nd rule, which is the original one. The question is "what conditions to put in a service selection rule to make wireless IP phones use the rule).

The second change is that I want to add machine authentication so only Laptops that are in AD can access the network. AGain I tried various settings but can't get this to work.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 9.1 WebVPN - URL Entry Default Protocol Selection?

Feb 19, 2013

through asa webvpn we need to provide our user remote destkop access; we would not use static rdp:// bookmarks for this accomplishmet as this would grow too much management effort with bookmarks updating.  Our strategy would be to give users the "url entry" bar where they can input the resource name (example: "pc-flavio.mydomain") so the management effort is outplaced to the guys who manage the dns server. This stated, we noticed that most end-users would get in troubles because of the default-ing "url-protocol" is http://, so they don't change it to the correct rdp:// from the drop-down list and don't have the java-rdp applet started.  There is a chance to admin the default protocol for URL Entry Functions?  Our setup is asa 5510 ver 9.1, act/stb failover.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS V5.3 Identity Selection For Authentication?

Jan 16, 2012

I configured before ACS v4.2 to authenticate network devices using internal users at first, and if the user is not found use AD list users.  But with v5.3 I have some problems doing this, on identity policies I use rule based result selection option, I configured 2 polices for Identity source, one for Internal Users and other policy for AD user, but it only works with the first policy, internal users or AD, but works only for the first policy identity.  how to do that, if the user is not found on first policy, continue to the next policy.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.1 Access Rule Selection Sequence

Apr 14, 2011

I just installed a new ACS 5.1 to authenticate wireless PEAP users, so I created an Access policy "WirelessUsers" with identity store being Windows Active directory and all domain users are selected, and create a service rule that dictates that if the authentication protocol is radius, network device belongs to WLC device group, the result service will be "WirelessUsers", so this part worked perfectely, all domain users are able to gain wireless access via their DOMAIN/usernames and domain passwords. Now I want ACS local indentity store users (those local usernames can be the same or different from their AD usernames) to be able to manage those controllers, so I created another access policy "DeviceAdminUsers" with identity store being local users, another service rule which says that if the authentication protocol is radius, network device belongs to WLC device group, the result service will be "DeviceAdminUsers". The problem is that with the setup, whenenve when I try to SSH to WLC, ACS always put me in "WirelessUsers" access policy, even the login name does not have DOMAIN pre-pended or the login name simly does not exist in AD.  if I put the second rule in front of first rule, I am able to authenticate with ACS local username/password and gain access to WLC, but wireless users will fail to authenticate, because ACS is trying to put regular wiress users in "DeviceAdminUsers" access policy. I would expect if username does not exist in AD, ACS should proceed with next rule. Similar requirement was easily achieved in ACS 3.3.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: VSA 218 - Configure IP Pool Selection By RADIUS On ACS 5-3-0-40-7?

Feb 18, 2013

I'm trying to configure IP pool selection by RADIUS on ACS 5-3-0-40-7.So, I went to configuring the cisco-assign-ip-pool (Cisco VSA 218) attribute within some test authorization profile but discovered that cisco-assign-ip-pool is an integer (?!) and (therefore) accepts digits only.

As far as I can remember, we used to put pool *names* within ip:addr-pool

(something along those lines: cisco-avpair = "ip:addr-pool=test-pool-1").

So how should we configure the values for this attribute in ACS 5?

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.3 And TACACS + Authentication From VPN?

Mar 4, 2012

I have a Cisco ASA (8.2) setup with remote access for my users using Cisco VPN client. The authentication is passed off to my ACS 5.3 which then checks with AD. What I've done so far is create Access Policy rule where I define specifically the Location and NDG where the ASA is and then a DenyAllCommands command set. This should pass authentications just fine but this also gives those users the ability to remote connect directly into the ASA and login successfully. Even though there is a Deny Commands there I still would prefer they get Access Denied as a message. If I do a Deny Access on the ShellProfile then this stops the login authentication altogether.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: Cannot Authenticate AD For Tacacs ACS 5.0

May 24, 2011

I think i've got everything set up to authenticate against AD for Tacacs+ device logins.  When i check the logs, i see:"24408 User authentication against Active Directory failed since  user has entered the wrong password".  This leads me to believe that it is checking AD correctly, however if i enter the password correctly for the same AD user, there is no log at all...no pass, no fail.

If i look at the Tacacs debugs on the switch, i see the following:May 25 10:55:07.927 CDT: TAC+: ver=192 id=874699084 received AUTHEN status = ERRORMay 25 10:55:09.932 CDT: TAC+: send abort reason=Unknown

Obviously the switch is communicating to ACS, and ACS is passing info back to the switch.  ACS also appears to be communicating effectively with AD since it knows when i put in an incorrect password for the specific user.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.3 / Tacacs Authorization Restrictions

Nov 14, 2012

ACS 5.3 configured with two rules, 1 rule for standard level 15 access for the Network Engineers and a 2nd rule to allow some limited access to switches: The limited access account has enough command set access to change the vlan on a switchport, so Configure Terminal, Interface FAx/x and switchport access vlan x.

Switch configuration:

aaa authentication login default group tacacs+ local
aaa authentication enable default group tacacs+ enable
aaa authorization console
aaa authorization config-commands
aaa authorization exec default group tacacs+ local
aaa authorization commands 0 default group tacacs+ local
aaa authorization commands 1 default group tacacs+ local
aaa authorization commands 15 default group tacacs+ local
aaa session-id common

Everything works well and the limited access users can only perform the commands i've setup.

Problem:The problem i've encountered is when one of the network engineers makes a change that would stop the device from being able to see the ACS server it stops allowing any commands to be typed in the router/switch. Additionally if you then connect to the device and login with the local username and password the device then waits for it to hit the TACACS server timeout for every command you enter. This is obviously very slow and painful for the engineer.

Question:Is there a way to set this up so the engineer logging in with full Level 15 access doesn't have to have each command authorized by the ACS server but still allow the limited access accounts to be able to make interface changes?

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: Switches TACACS Or RADIUS With ACS 4.2

Aug 14, 2011

So far i managed my switches with TACACS+, however now i've to deploy 802.1X, requiring RADIUS only. For what i know, ACS (i'm using 4.2) allows to define a device using only TACACS or RADIUS, but not both. Do i am right? Or there is a way to define an AAA client to communicate with the same ACS using both the protocols?

Supposing i am right, i was then considering the following options: - configure all of the switches to use radius for any service (authentication, authorization etc ec) This simplifies the task, but i lose the TACACS+ services for the switches. Is this a big loss?

- configure the L3 switches to use a second Loopback, just for RADIUS services. This would allow to still use the TACACS+ but would require a new network just for the RADIUS service; furthermore L2 switches doesn't support two IP addresses and would require anyway a migration to RADIUS.

A considerable administrative overhead, in other words. I'm not willing to deploy a second RADIUS (ACS, Windows, whatever), in this moment.

The key point is this: reading around i see Cisco documentation recommending always to use TACACS+ for management, but in this situation is not possibile. In general, every time the device has a role of network admission  (switch or access-point) RADIUS seems to be the protocol of choice. Moving to RADIUS would have some major drawback or only a change in the communication protocol? (I know the difference between TACACS+ and RADIUS: tcp vs udp, encryption of the whole packet vs encryption of only the password).

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.3 Load Balancing - TACACS+ NAS IP Address?

Jun 26, 2012

I'm currently evaluating a scenario where AAA request are load balanced across multiple ACS 5.3 instances. The application delivery controller runs in L3 mode, which naturally causes the original packet's source IP address to be replaced by a randomly selected proxy address. As far as RADIUS is concerned, I can perfectly determine the originating NAS by means of a 'Device Filter' condition. Unfortunately, ACS seems to lack the possibility of achieving the same for TACACS+. According to the user manual, only the actual IP address from the received packet is taken into account. I've also come across the 'NAS-Address' attribute in the protocol dictionary, but it can't be used in a custom condition either.how to retrieve the initial device IP address from a TACACS+ request in order to use it for further policing?
