Cisco Firewall :: 2851 HTTPS URL Blocking Using Class Map
Aug 3, 2011
I have a request for blocking urls using a class map. I have made this work with HTTP, however it does not work for https. This is a 2851 router with IOS Version 12.4(15)T7. I see i could use the command "match protocol secure-https" however this does not let me specify any specific urls.
Does a new IOS version will support what I'm trying to do? Or if there is another way?

I am having a setup with a 2851 router & websense url filtering server where I need to forward the traffic to websense server for all the internet requests. The http traffic is getting filtered properly, but the https traffic is not getting filtered. The two commands I ahev given for http & http are as follows: ip inspect name test http urlfilter ip inspect name test https.

I was under the impression that all Cisco ASA firewalls shipped with a default inspection policy.
Example
policy-map global_policy
class inspection_default
inspect dns preset_dns_map
[Code]......
can I build this myself? Why is it missing (I have two other ASA 5505s here that also do not have it). What would I do to rebuild it?

I have a Cisco 871 router that used to have Access list based security. now I am trying the ZBFW for the first time. I thought I had a pretty good program until I found all my traffic was getting dropped. This is my first stab at ZBFWs and I am a bit confused esp with the default class part.
The router is for my house and thus also has to have priority for gaming. I will add the gaming and voice QOS once I get it working,
Guest VLAN has access to 2 IP's in Data for printing. Cisco871#sh run

I really need understanding some of the logic behind the default ZBFW settings on my Cisco 881W courtesy of Cisco Configuration Professional. Here are my two questions:
1.) What is the purpose and logic behind consolidating the first class-map (ccp-cls-insp-traffic) in to the second Class-Map (ccp-insp-traffic) as follows?
Code ....
2.) What is the purpose and logic of Policy-Map ccp-inspect is trying to drop traffic from ccp-invalid-src, which is filtering based on ACL 100:
policy-map type inspect ccp-inspectclass type inspect ccp-invalid-src drop logclass type inspect ccp-insp-traffic inspectclass type inspect ccp-protocol-httpclass class-default drop.
Code ....

I am carving up an internet Class C for customer. This class C is used by 3 distinct QA, Corporate and Production firewalls. I want to carve up IP space so there is a /26 for each environment. The issue I have is the firewalls may need communication with each other via the public IP space. Currently I don’t have any L3 switches in between the firewalls and the edge internet router. So with subnetting, it would seem I need to push everything through the internet router for the intra-firewall communication.I would rather not push this traffic through the edge router, so I came up with an idea to allocate all firewall outside interface IP’s in the 4th (last remaining) /26. That way, I can allow firewalls to communicate over the primary interface IP’s, which will all be in the same subnet – without going through a routing “engine”/device.
For the actual environment subnets (NAT's on respective firewalls), I create a static route on the edge router pointing to each of the firewall’s primary IP’s for the respective environment routes (the first 3 - /26’s).This is still a beta design, but I have done this before on small scale when ISP gave me 2 subnets for example, assuming I was going to put a router in between the customer firewall and ISP. I would use the “routed subnet” on the ASA interface, and then pull the NAT’s from the other subnet. The ISP would have to add a static route directing the NAT subnet to the “routed subnet” correct IP - which would be the firewall outside interface primary IP.I recently found out that with ASA OS 8.4.3 and up, ASA will not proxy arp for IP’s not in its local interface subnet. This means the ISP/router will have to assign static ARP entries on the edge router. This can get messy after the first few NAT entries. So I am debating the design now. I think this kind of stuff going forward won’t be worthwhile with newer ASA 8.4.3 code.
How to communicate between different ASA’s, while still carving up the Class C into usable smaller subnets? The primary reason for doing this in the first place is to support routing on the edge router. I am thinking it might be time to ask for another Class C to do the routing functions, and keep the firewalls all at Layer 2 in one /24 - Class C?

I'm trying to support a friend. They just switched to TWC Business Class from Megapath. They have a Cisco 5505 ASA and are trying to configure it to work with the new TimeWarner cable modem. But we can't get PCs behind the firewall out to the Internet.
We think it should be a pretty simple config. They have the ASA connected directly to the modem. The modem is running DHCP, and we''ve configured the ASA to get its address via DHCP. We have a Windows server behind the firewall; it can't get out the Internet either. It's set up to be a DHCP server and is giving IP addresses to the PCs on the network.
Laptops connected via wifi to a wireless router attached to the modem are able to connect to the internet, thus we know the modem is up and running fine.
Here's our running config:

I got myself lately Cisco SR520 router with some basic firewall functions built in. This is going to be used for my home broadband, so no need to be really super secure, as it would be for some business. I managed to configure it, however there are few things on the firewall side, which I don't understand.
This router had some default configuration in it's flash, when I bought it. There are class maps.... how it works or how to add/edit rules. Also, do I need to use class maps, or can they be replaced by ACL's to certain extend? How to add/edit class maps rules to allow certain port (eg. 3333). Pease see below part of the default config:

match protocol sip
class-map type inspect match-any sdm-cls-icmp-access
match protocol icmp

I'm trying to configure a zone-based firewall on an SR520 and am confused about the 'not' criterion. The 'zone-design-guide' says (my stress): Class- maps define the traffic that the firewall selects for policy application. Layer 4 class-maps sort the traffic based on these criteria listed here. These criteria are specified using the match.where my intention is to let only LAN hosts with IPs in the range 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.7 out through the firewall. There may be an easier way of doing this which I'd be pleased to hear about. But, even if there is, I'd also be interested to know what I'm doing wrong in the above.

We have a new 50/10MB Comcast Deluxe connection we are trying to set up in our environment. We have a single static IP and the Comcast provided SMC-3DG router/modem has been set to "bridge mode" by Comcast. This is then plugged into one of the interfaces and that interface has the static IP defined on it with a default route to the Comcast provided gateway IP. I wired the 2851 into our layer 3 switch, set up some static routes on the 2851 back to our existing subnets and everything traffic-wise is flowing between our existing subnets and this new router.
Since the default route on our layer 3 switch is defaulted to our older 2811 router (that I'm intending on replacing with this 2851), I set up a static route on our layer 3 switch to guide all traffic for speedtest.net and comcast.speedtest.net out to the 2851 router. Doing speed tests show 12 MB down, .5 MB up. Connecting a laptop directly to the Comcast SMC modem and setting it's IP to the static IP shows full speeds again, so the issue has to be with our configuration/equipment.
Can a Cisco 2851 support this 50mb Comcast connection and do I just have it configured wrong? Or do I need a different router altogether? At first I tried the 2811 but that had slow speeds, so I figured the 2851 with twice the throughput would do a better job but for some reason it is not currently. I have played with duplex settings (100, full, half, auto) and nothing changed. I updated the 2851 to the latest 12.4 firmware and also no change.

I'm trying to troubleshoot an ASA5505.
The original goal was to block "Mumble/Murmur" (a voip app) traffic, which runs on TCP/UDP 64738, both inbound and outbound, except to a certain host (63.223.117.170).
However, when nothing I tried seemed to make a difference, just to troubleshoot, I decided to try blocking all inbound traffic. I first disconnected ethernet port 0/0 to ensure that it was cabled correctly and the outside interface went down when I did. That worked as expected, so I confirmed I had the right interface and it was cabled correctly.
I then applied a "any any deny ip" rule as the first element in the outside interface access_list, as you can see below. However, it appears to have had no real effect and the hit count is very low (it should be astronomical).

• HTTPS Filtering
– Able to allow or block HTTPS traffic.
– Supports group-based and user-based HTTPS policies.
– Includes URL blocking/URL exception list support for HTTPS domains.

We have an ASA5505 UL bundel, updated with this license "L-ASA5505-SEC-PL=" to enable traffic from DMZ to Inside. No NAT or rules deployed for that yet.
On the Inside we have Exchange 2007 in a single server installation. The public url for smtp, ActiveSync, OWA and Outlook Anywhere is mail.company.se. There is a static NAT for outside traffic to access above mentioned services on inside. Now, on DMZ there is the WLAN for guests to access the Internet. How ever, our Smart Phones with WLAN turned on, cannot sync to the Exchange Server on the Inside! The DMZ gets IP-addressen from ASA on DMZ Interface with external DNS configured. How can I configure the ASA to achieve the function of ActiveSync from DMZ to Inside with the public URL from the phones?

I have a closed network that is not connnected to the internet, just other sites that we want to communicate with. We have a cisco router connected to the outside interface on an ASA5505 and a cisco router connected to the inside interface on the same ASA5505. I have an inside interface that connects our management LAN, five separate DMZ interfaces with a separate LAN (VLAN) on each DMZ interface and the outside interface that connects to the other sites. Data is not allowed to mingle between the five DMZ's.
Alll connections to the other separate nodes are handled with the router on the external interface. IPSEC GRE tunnels have been established between all sites and BGP routing has been verified. Pings are good between inside, dmz and external interfaces and between the DMZ's and the other sites, to include hosts on our local networks and hosts at the remote sites. Inter and intra traffic is enabled.
When a remote site attempts an https connection, the initial ACK handshake makes it through the ASA5505, but the return SYN/ACK is being knocked down and I don't understand why (it is not because of ACL's, they are any any at this point).
Why the return SYN/ACK to the remote site isn't getting through the ASA5505 outbound. Will probably have the same issue with FTP, but right now, just trying to solve one problem at a time.
ASA5505 is in routed mode, not looking to NAT since the IP addresses in the DMZ need to be reached by their real IP address.

My company uses a pair of 5510 ASAs as the gateway to Internet. I once configured policy-map to filter certain webpages (facebook, twitter, ...etc) and they work fine. However nowdays those websites all support HTTPS. In the https the URL seems encrypted so can't do regex match... Is there anyway that I can still block those webpages?
Another two ways I can think of are
1. Block IPs (don't really want do this unless absolutely necessary)
2. Block DNS for the URL (however they can work around by setting static DNS entries)

I have an ASA 5505 running 8.4.4.1. I've configured three WAN interfaces and have assigned failover on one of them (we have two ISP's, and a total of 3 static IP's in 3 different subnets). I've noticed that all the traffic is flowing through only one of the three interfaces, but I need to allow incoming https traffic on the second WAN port so I can access our Exchange server (we already use https on the first WAN port to access another server).
[code] WAN1 is the default outgoing route and we've configured several incoming services on it (smtp and https for example) and appears to be working properly as mail is coming and going and users can access the RDS gateway.I need to configure WAN2 to accept https traffic and send it to our Exchange server to enable OWA (webmail) access.I've configured the same Access and NAT rules on all three WAN interfaces for smtp (but I suspect only the first one is currently functioning at this point, I'll test it next chance I get). I thought all I'd have to do is configure an access and NAT entry on WAN2 (same as on WAN1), but direct the traffic to the OWA server instead of the rds gateway server, but it is not working.
In the realtime log I can see that it appears to be receiving the traffic on the WAN2 IP, but seems to be passing this through to the inside via the WAN1 interface.

I need to redirect all http and https traffic from one source in a dmz network, to port tcp/8080 on a proxy server on the inside network.
The source device doesn't handle proxying very well, so i've been advised to redirect the tcp/80 and tcp/443 ports to tcp/8080 as it passes through the firewall.
Scenario is thus:
PIX 515E 6.3 (5)
DMZ server: 172.31.255.250 (Real IP), 10.44.181.236 (NAT IP)
Inside Proxy server: 10.44.132.28 (Real IP), 172.31.255.110 (NAT IP)
I've configured a static NAT redirect using the following command: static (inside,dmz) tcp 172.31.255.110 www 10.44.132.28 8080 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0
When I try to add the next command of: static (inside,dmz) tcp 172.31.255.110 443 10.44.132.28 8080 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0
I get the following error: ERROR: duplicate of existing static
Is there a work around for this at all or am I stuck with the limitations of the software?
