Cisco Firewall :: 2921 Enable WCCP - SSH Connections Fail
Feb 22, 2012
I have a IOS firewall on a 2921 router, zone-based config. The remote and main sites have Cisco WAAS , running 4.4.1 software. I am using WCCP redirection on the WAAS/router combination. If I leave it off the firewall passes SSH correctly to the devices on the other side of the firewall. If I enable WCCP the SSH connections fail. The SSH to the router itself is fine, I am not using the self zone for router protection. I had seen a few posts on WAAS but the only one mentioning a config statement in the firewall was on 4.0 WAAS and the command is no longer on the IOS firewall. Is this supposed to work transparently or am I missing a config?

We have a second ASA 5510 that is suppose to be a hot standby. I need to find out that, as a hot standby, does it have to have the same licenses as the ASA that it backs up. We purchased 50 SSL VPN licenses for that unit. If it fails over, we need to make sure the failover asa can allow SSL VPN connections.

We have a site with two inbound circuits, one for internet and one for our MPLS. Each circuit is being terminated by a 2921 Router and matching ASA 5510 Firewall. For the internal network, the Internet ASA's inside interface (172.16.0.1) is the default gateway for all hosts. OSPF is the routing protocol between all the routers and ASA's and routing is working. In fact, ICMP is working as well. From an inside host (172.16.0.81), we can ping anything on the MPLS network. But when I try to use telnet (for example), the connection fails. If I add a route to 10.10.10.0 to the host, or re-configure the host to point to the MPLS ASA (172.16.0.254) as it's default gateway, connections will establish.
Both ASAs are running 8.4(3), and have the following commands:
same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
interface Ethernet0/0
nameif outside
[Code]....
And from the MPLS nodes, I can see a tcp request is made.

I would like to apply a policy-based route on one of our L3 switches (Cisco 3750) to change the next-hop of a couple of servers only. The VLAN where those servers reside got WCCP enabled on it. When I want to apply the route-policy to that VLAN interface it doesn't let me. When I try to apply the same policy to a VLAN interface without WCCP it does work. Is there any Cisco IOS limitations that would prevent me from doing that?
Configuration:
route policy config:
access-list 70 permit ip host x.x.x.x (server IP)
route-map PBR1 permit 10
[Code].....

I have an ASA 5520 running, user web trafic, incoming VPN and systems NAT for DMZ services. Nothing new for a standard firewall. I have upgraded the memory in it to 2GB, per Cisco so that I could install and run IOS 8.41. I have uploaded the both the IOS bn image and the ASDM 645 image and set it as the primary boot file. When I reload the ASA, everything boots fine, no errors and all traffic appears to be working fine. But here is my problem:ALL the previously configured VPN sessions will connect to the ASA and show that they are passing traffice (TX and RX increments through the monitor) but if I try to access a device on the other side of the VPN or they try to access services in the corporate network, the connection fails. Ping works, So I know I can reach the devices and the tunnel has been correctly created, but nothing else, . I did not change anything in the configurations for the VPN connectors. But, if I reload the ASA with the 8.21 version image, everything works just as before and all connections are good.

Phase 1 appears to complete without issue, however at phase two it fails with "Fail to allocate ip address" (full debug attached). Everything I've read suggests that this issue relates to client based VPN, where the Cisco router cannot assign other related attributes to the requesting client (DNS server etc.) but obviously that isn't relevant in this case. Why the router might think it's a client connection and how to stop it?
While I'm troubleshooting this issue currently with a Check Point VPN we've noticed the issue appear on other VPNs (to Cisco 880 routers), and the problem seems to solve itself (which obviously doesn't useful in finding the cause of the problem!).

I am having problems with these types of 3G cards(EHWIC-3G-HSPA+7) from Cisco. We are using them on ships where we have a SAT connection and the 3G connection. Fail over between the two connections are handled by an IP SLA echo and a track on the cellular interface, towards an public IP where we have configured a static route to via the Cellular interface.
Once configured the connection comes up fine, the VPN tunnels comes up and all is good. But after some time the connection dies, the track goes down because no data goes through.a sh cell 0/0/0 all however say that the profile is active.

I currently have WCCP redirection setup on my ASA 5520 to redirect to an ironport on ip address 10.11.1.10. The ASA inside ip is 10.11.1.1 and the ironport is setup for transparent redirection to that IP. This all works well and the Service Identifier i'm using for WCCP is 95.I am now creating another WCCP group because on my ironport I have 4 interfaces so I wanted to use them for our admin network. So I created an ACL on the ASA for our admin traffic and I want to redirect that using Service Identifier 94 to the ip on the ironport of 10.11.1.22. But I can't get traffic to redirect.

I am currently trying to enable WCCP between a Cisco ASA 5512 firewall and Barraccuda Webfilter 410 Vx applicance. The ASA firewall is running IOS version 8.6(1)2 and the Barracuda is funning firemware 6.0.0.013. Both the ASA and Barracuda are in the same network and can ping eachother. The ASA has several interfaces, outside, inside, data and dmz. The PCs and barracuda appliance are behind the data interface. ASA data IP 172.16.18.1 Barracuda IP 172.16.18.40 All PCs in the 172.16.18.0/24 subnet use the ASA as the default gateway and should have web requests redirected to the Barracuda.
Below are the respecive bits of my ASA config
interface GigabitEthernet0/0
description Management
speed 1000
[Code].....
I suspect my issue is that the ASA is generating a Router Identifier of 172.21.20.1 which is my inside network and the barracuda cannot communicate with it. how I can get this working ?

I have a ASA5585 running 8.4 that is redirecting Internet http to a websense server via GRE.The integration is working fine, except when a user PC sends a large packet (~1500 bytes). With WCCP/GRE headers, the user packet is too large to be transmitted to websense, so the ASA fragments the packet in two and transmits both to websense.
A sniffer trace confirms that both fragments reach the websense server, but the TCP packet is never acknowledged.User-side TCP retransmits the large packet three times over 15 seconds, and eventually retransmits fine with smaller packets. The 15 second delay is of course not acceptable.Users and Websense server are both on the Inside interface.
We are considering imposing browser proxy to websense (which works fine), but would prefer not, considering the increasing diversity of devices.

What the support for WCCP on a FWSM running 4.0(7) is like, if there is any at all ?
I've read that the earliest PIX release that supports WCCP was 7.2(1) but I'm not sure how FWSM 4.0(7) aligns with the PIX versions. The only doc's i can find refrencing WCCP on a 6500 with FWSM is in the 6500 12.2 IOS guide.

What I'm trying to do is get VPN users off split tunneling and to filter their traffic through the IronPorts as well but I can't figure out how. When they connect they seem to bypass the Ironport completely.

Could i copy the wireless adapter and paste it into my Desktop, to enable wireless connections? Obviously, we are not talking about actual cards, they are all integrated into the Motherboard.

I am configuring a 2921 with enhanced security using the CCP. I have found a behavior that seems strange to me and I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding something or missing a setting. It seems that if I create a firewall rule to "allow" traffic through, that traffic gets dropped, but if I set the action to "Inspect", the traffic comes through fine. I can actually reproduce this at will by setting up a rule from out-zone to self to allow traffic and I cannot telnet into it from an external ip, but if I change that rule to "inspect" i can connect fine (i dont want that rule set up permanently, was just using it to test the firewall).
If I set the allow rule to log, I see the following line in the application security log:
(target:class)-(ccp-zp-out-self:user-fw-ccp) Passing telnet pkt 1.1.1.1:58141 => 2.2.2.2:23 with ip ident 0
(where 1.1.1.1 is the external laptop and 2.2.2.2 is my WAN IP address of the 2921)
So it looks to be passing the traffic, but that traffic is getting dropped somewhere because the connection is unsuccessful.
Is this the expected behavior of "Allow" action? Is there something I can do to make sure "allow" traffic actually gets through?

We have two Cisco 2960 TT-L switches. I'd like to reduce single points of failure and have dual servers for most tasks. For example, two firewall servers and two web servers. Should one server fail the other will act as a failover.I'd like to extend the redundancy to the switches, and am thinking of connecting one web server to one switch, and one to the other. In the event a switch failed a set of servers would still run, and be able to talk to each other.I'd like to run two VLANs, one for the LAN, and one of the WAN, and connect the two VLANs on each of the switches with the associated VLAN on the other switch.

we just bought a 2921 with the following modules: 4 port clear channel T1/E1 HWICSM-ES3G-24-P: EtherSwitch.I read some CISCO documents, and not be able to find what I need. I would prefer all instructions from you are for CLI interface. This is my first time to deal directly with T1, WIC and 2921 etc. The following is what I get from ATT, IP masked IP Address Block IP Address: 20.20.20.136/29 WAN Link Details: WAN Link IP Address:13.13.13.92 AR Serial INT IP Address:13.13.13.93 CR Serial INT IP Address:13.13.13.94 WAN Link Subnet Mask:255.255.255.252
A: how do I configure T1, what does "AR, CR" stands for, and do I need to use both IP addresses? What is the WAN Link IP for?
B: We have two T1 lines, so I should plug them both to the WIC, say port 0 and port 1, how to configure them?
C: how do I access the firewall from the command line?
D: I followed T1/E1 HWIC installation guide, and as soon as I add channel-group to the controller t1, the serial interface went down?

OK, I have a 2921 on 15.3-2T. ZBFW is working from the inside to the outside, but the DMZ is not being blocked at all to the inside. I am currently running with subinterfaces. All interfaces have zones attached. I have policies from inside to outside and DMZ to outside, those work fine. Without any policy from DMZ to inside, it can pass traffic freely from DMZ to inside. I have tried making an explicit policy to drop all to inside, still passes. I ended up just having to put an ACL on the interface
I already tried upgrading the IOS, that is how I ended up on the newest version. This is connected to a 2960S with a trunk port. Everything else works perfectly except for the DMZ security. I haven't had time to try to lab it up yet, but wanted to see if any reasons this shouldn't work, as all documentation says it should drop all traffic unless you make a policy to pass traffic.

I know I can use the RTR statement to determine when the primary ISP circuit goes down via this technote: url...My question can I assign static Nats on the backup ISP connection to the same inside servers in the dmz.?Example 10.1.1.11 is mapped to ISP1 ExternaIP of 65.217.77.11. Can it 10.1.1.11 also be mapped to ISP2's 208.217.77.11?This way I can get my DNS changed and my inbound traffic to servers in my DMZ on the asa 5510 running 8.0.3 code can continue to receive Inbound traffic.

I have a Cisco ASA 5510 and I am trying to set it up to be able to have it failover to the 2nd ISP connection if the 1st one ever went down. I think I need a nat statement that the "backup" connection will use when the 1st connection goes down, but I am unsure what the nat statement is supposed to be. I have added the commands that I am pretty sure that I need to add for the "backup" ISP connection. Attached are those commands, the interfaces that are set up, and the objects that are set up in the ASA.

I tried last night to upgrade the memory in my old 5510. It's about 5 years old and has the single memory socket. I followed the instruction included in the kit:
Mfr. Part#: ASA5510-MEM-1GB
I did wear an ESD wrist strap (genuine Cisco at that!) and ensured the memory was fully seated, the handles locked in.Upon restarting the ASA, for over 15 minutes, it stayed in mode: Power LED steady, Status LED flashing, other LEDs off. No response to attempts to SSL via Putty. I powered it off, verified the memory was indeed fully seated, and re-installed the original 256 MB module. It powered up normally in less than 5 minutes. Is there anything else to try before returning the memory? Tonight, I can try the same new memoy module and see if it works.

It was until yesterday that we experienced downtime on the primary ISP that the secondary doesn't do the fail-over. I have to manually configure the device to use the secondary ISP. Currently, I'm looking at maybe this has something to do with the licensing. We are currently using a Base License, should we be upgrading to Security Plus?

last night we tried to upgrade our cluster (2x ASA5520) from 8.0(4) to 8.2(3) and failed miserably.
1. Both units got the new image, but when we reloaded the secondary unit then we got the following strange message:
"Mate's license (10GE I/O Enabled) is not compatible with my license (10GE I/O Disabled). Fail over will be disabled."
After this message fail over was not there anymore and both units became active (!!!) which killed everything. Of course ASA5520 doesn't have 10GE and we have exactly the same units. What could be the problem here? Currently we run with a single unit with 8.2(3) and the secondary unit is switched off.
2. After the upgrade we cannot connect with multiple VPN sessions from the same client, this gets logged:
"Multiple sessions per tunnel are not supported"
This was working just fine with 8.0(4) and doesn't work with 8.2(3). Do we have to update something in the config or what is causing this? If you ask why we went with 8.2(3) instead of 8.2(5) then the answer is because we were testing that for several month in our secondary data center, but unfortunately only on a single ASA and not on a cluster. We couldn't go higher due to the 512MB RAM we have in all units.
And we had to upgrade, because we had crashes with 8.0(4) which was working fine for a long-long time.
