Cisco Firewall :: 5510 8.3 (1) Static Nat For Web Servers And FTP Server As Well
Sep 13, 2011
I got the charge of a ASA 5510 running with 8.3(1) version.Found that this is simple config with Patting for inside host and couple of Static Nat for web servers and FTP server as well.
There is lots of other configuration being done,I assume for the purpose of just R&D by the previous administrator.I need to understand if the following Nat statements holding any relevance?
Where we are running Only NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.0.0/23 subnet at inside and there is no other subnet defined in rest of the statements.i.e 10.0.0.0/27 and 192.168.1.128/27 doesn't exist at all.

Only trying to have the mail server reachable via the secondary ISP link if the primary ISP link goes out. The public MX records with priority markings should make it so any outside hosts tries the first ISP address then the second ISP address if the first is unavailable. I would be using object tracking to control the default gateway in the ASA. I'm just a bit fuzzy on the NAT with a dual ISP config on single box.It shouldn't happen but... if traffic comes in on ISP2 while ISP1 is still up (and the current default gate) that traffic should return out the ISP2 interface (using the ISP2 address and avoiding asymmetric routing) since there already an existing connection present inside the ASA. Any server initiated traffic would still use the current default gateway defined via object tracking on the ASA.

I have a situation where we have a single DMZ server currently statically forwarded to a single public IP. TCP ports 80, 443, 8080, 8500, 53, and 21 are open to this server via an access list.
However, we have added an additional server to the DMZ, and because our web developers did not communicate with me beforehand, we are forced to use the same DNS name (thus, the same piblic IP) for this server. This server only needs traffic on TCP/8800 forwarded to it.
I am using ASDM 6.4 for configuration of this, as I am required to take multiple screen shots of the procedure for our change control policy.
My question lies in the reconfiguration of NAT/ PAT. Since our current server has a single static NAT to a single public IP, it is simply natted for "any" port. I understand that I can add the new server as an object, and only PAT it on TCP 8800, but will I then have to go back and reconfigure the first server multiple times for PAT, or will the ASA notice the specific PAT, and forward 8800 to the new server without affecting the existing "old" server?
It appears ASDM will not allow me to put multiple ports into a single network object. I am assuming I will need to add 6 separate object translations for the "old" server based on TCP port, and 1 object translation for the "new" server, correct?

Recently moved into the hardware firewall space and have a ASA 5510. Having some issues trying to get traffic through the box to my 4 dedicated servers. all the servers have static IP's and are connected to a private switch into one of the ethernet ports on the firewall(0/2). Public internet connection into another(0/0). 1 of my servers has a connection to the management port, and the public switch, and this is the one im trying to do the configuration on.
Im unsure what to set the IP address of my "outside" interface as. need to have RDP,FTP, HTTP traffic going to each of the 4 servers independently, pretty sure i can get the rules in place to allow this, but cant seem to get any traffic to go through the firewall to any of the other 3 servers.

I've tried a bunch things but it didn't work, I'm about to gave up! :-/
I have the following scenario:
ASA5510 - v8.3(2)
Interfaces
ETH0/0 = outside = 189.xxx.xxx.129
ETH0/1 = inside = 10.xx.1.15
[Code]....
What should I do to get the SIP and 8080 port working on my Public IP, likewise just as access from my browse the http://189.xxx.xxx.129:8080 and get through directly to my internal server 10.xx.xx.61 ?

One of our customers has asked us to Nat from the LAN to the Voice LAN based on destination IP address in order to access a public phone server through a vendor managed voice router..
Internet for everything else
|
|
Inside ------------------------> ASA 5510 -----------------> Voice router ------> outside to public phone server only
10.10.1.0/20 10.10.1.7/320 172.16.20.1/24
Voice------------------------->
172.16.20.0/24 172.16.20.254/24
Here the ASA5510 has an interface in both networks and the inside network can ping the voice network through the firewall by using non at acls. The phone server can only talk to the 172.16.20.0/24 network. So I need to nat the 10.10.1.0/20 network to the Voice interface on the ASA 172.16.20.254/24.
So I think I need the following static but I get the error below:
static (Inside,Voice) interface 10.10.0.0 net mask 255.255.240.0
WARNING: All traffic destined to the IP address of the Voice interface is being redirected.
WARNING: Users will not be able to access any service enabled on the Voice interface.

I have an issue, of two parts. The first part I believe I have figured out, just the second part I am unsure of. I have an ASA 5510, currently, there is a mailserver that is static NAT'ed to one of my ISP routed IPs (not the IP of my main Dynamic PAT/Outside interface). I need to convert this over to PAT for ports 25,80,443, etc (standard ports). I know I need to remove the static NAT statement and add in the PAT statements, but I need traffic from that machine to continue to go out the IP assigned to it by the static NAT.
E.G.
1.1.1.1 <- main public IP on outside interface, everything gets internet through this IP
1.1.1.2 <-> 10.10.10.10 static NAT to mailserver, secured with ACLs
I need to enable the mailserver to continue to appear to the world as living on 1.1.1.2, due to MX records and rDNS settings, etc...
The terminology for this setup escapes me at the moment.

I have a Cisco ASA 5510 that was set up as a VPN server for working remote. I have disabled split tunneling so that all traffic created while VPN'd in goes through the ASA. The problem I'm having I believe would be resolved if I enabled split tunneling but I would prefer another solution. Now..for the problem. When a user is connected via VPN, they can hit all intended devices both public and private accept servers that have static NATs in the FW. So Server A has a public of 1.1.1.1 which is one to one mapped to private address of 10.1.1.1. Now if the remote user brings up a browser and goes to 1.1.1.1 it wont work. The FW gives me a error which is posted below. However, using the private IP of the server works. I thought about trying to manipulate DNS to resolve this as the remote users are using URLs and not IPs when trying to reach these servers but again, was hoping I could resolve the NAT problem that the FW seems to be having.
Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for tcp src Outside:192.168.202.100/49238 dst INSIDE:1.1.1.1/80 denied due to NAT reverse path failure 192.168.202.x/24 is the remote vpn ip given via the ASA.
Here are some configurations on the ASA:
static (INSIDE,Outside) 1.1.1.1 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.255
access-list INSIDE_nat0_outbound extended permit ip object-group DM_INLINE_NETWORK_2 192.168.202.0 255.255.255.0
object-group network DM_INLINE_NETWORK_2
[code].....
Outside with 4.4.4.4 as the public ip traffic gets NAT'd do dynamically Inside with 10.1.1.x network on it.The ASA is running 8.2

I've got an ASA 5510 that has been working like a charm for some time now. Until now we've not had to nat any resources to the outside. I created network objects for an internal host and an external host. The internal host has to respond to requests on tcp/2001.
The internal host has no problem accessing the internet, but when I attempt to access the internal host from the outside, I get the following:
4 Sep 20 2011 16:20:33 fw_outside_ip 62678 outside_host 2001 Deny tcp src outside:outside_host_ip/62678 dst inside_host:inside_host_ip/2001 by access-group "outside_access_in" [0x0, 0x0]
When I try to use the packet tracer to simulate the outside traffic, I get the following
5 Sep 20 2011 16:17:41 inside_host 2001 Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for tcp src outside:outside_host/1065 dst inside_int:inside_host/2001 denied due to NAT reverse path failure
I've got over my NAT statement and access rule and can't find anything wrong with either.
Here are the pertinent NAT and access rule...
static (inside_int,outside) tcp interface 2001 inside_host 2001 netmask 255.255.255.255
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp host outside_host host inside_host eq 2001

I am setting up a network that will use the 1941 router with a cellular card (HWIC) to connect to the Internet for communication with remote stations in the field. The 1941 has a static IP address (166.142.xxx.yyy) on the Internet provided by the ISP (Verizon). The 1941 is connected via ethernet to the ASA5510. The end goal is to have the field cell routers (Digi Transport WR-44-R, also static IP) connect to the ASA5510 via VPN tunnels for communication back to the servers behind the firewall. I'm not sure exactly how to configure the 1941 so that the remote router can connect to the ASA using the public IP of the 1941 router. I have the 1941 working stand alone and can connect to the Internet and pass traffic, but I tried a static NAT to translate the public IP to the private IP of the ASA and cannot pass traffic. below is part of the 1941 configuration: [code]
Do I need to use VLAN bridging to accomplish the task or am I missing something with the NAT?

This problem applies (in my case) to our ASA5510. The issue here is that the http service on the ASA is runnnig off of the standard port 80. Login to the firewall and run the following.no http server enable http server enable 8080,Now you should be able to add a NAT/PAT on port 443 to another server of your liking. Just remember when you attempt to use ASDM to manage the ASA in the future to specify the new port 8080.

Is it possible to assign a static route to an interface and not globally on a ASA 5510 ver 8.3.
I have two links between my offices one for Data via a VPN and one for video traffic which is a secure connection with QOS end to end.
All interfaces are on the same security level of 100 except Outside which is 0.
Office 1 Interfaces ASA 5510
VLAN 1 vOffice1Data 10.40.1.0/24
VLAN 3 vOffice1Video 10.40.2.0/24
VLAN 5 vInterOffice 10.40.5.0/24 (QOS connection Between Offices)
[Code]....
At the moment if I try and access data from VLAN 1 to VLAN 4 it gets to the destination ok going through the static route and over the vInterOffice connection but the problem is VLAN 4 returning the traffic. This fails because there is no static route back to VLAN 1. If I create a static route from Office 2 to VLAN 1 then it will route all my data traffic over it as well.

route isp1 0 0 xx.xx.xx.xx 32 track 2

the last route will replace the previous two and only the last route command takes effect. Is there anyway I can set up the fail over to ISP2 only when it can't ping three different IP from ISP1?

I'am using ASA 5510 and I try to understand how PAT is working.I want to add a Mail Server in the LAN and a webmail using port 3000 on the server. ( webmail must be reachable from the WAN)This is my Configuration :actually LAN users access internet using NAT with one global IP ( 194.x.x.69) which is the ASA WAN interface.
WAN ----- ISP Router ---------- FW ---------- LAN -------- Mail Server + Webmail
| (25) | (3000)
194.x.x.69 192.168.1.254 192.168.1.6
I need to forward port 3000 and port 25 from outside to inside. For example, from the WAN : [URL] must be redirect toward 192.168.1.6:3000 . What is the Correct Configuration ? And what about the Inside/Outside Traffic,Is there any configuration to add ?

Since the power failure two days ago, my -ASA stops forwarding traffic to internal servers, for no apparent reason. Packet trace shows all OK, packet capture buffer stays empty when I try to http into the mail server. The only way to get it working is to change the Outside Ip to the one used for mail, then to change it back. It will work OK for a few hours, then stop, with nothing obvious in the logs.

I have an ASA 5510 running version 7.0. I have a problem with an exchange server using a static map and its outbounc connectivity. It connects outbound through the global address even though inbound connectivity works fine through the static mapping. The recent changes are changing of the zero route through a different interface (there are to circuit connected to this ASA on different interfaces). So the idea was to get all workstations in the office using the global address and routing out through one circuit, and the servers connecting in/out through the other circuit. Shouldn't a static mapping ignore what the zero route is?
Here are what I believe to be the relevant configs.
interface Ethernet0/0
description New 6mb circuit
speed 100
[Code]....
So exchang2 server can be connected to from the outside properly via IP xxx.207.51.231/exchange2-outside, but all outbound connections from this server are going out via IP xxx.122.47.218/circuit-6mb as do all the workstations due to the global address statement.

We have 2 servers currently and are adding one next month. All need to be accessible using a different web address. We have setup a records for the 2 existing servers but cannot get NAT to work properly. We have a block of 5 IP's from FIOS. x.x.x.146-150 and have tried using 146 and 150 as the main WAN static IP with no success in getting the other address to communicate to the corresponding server.
What we need...
Server @ address 192.168.2.2 - SBS Server, standard SBS ports - currently working via port forwarding with WAN static of .150
Server @ address 192.168.2.3 - RDP, HTTP, HTTPS, and others. Some ports are the same as SBS. Trying to NAT .149 to this server.
Server @ address 192.168.2.4 - RDP, HTTP, HTTPS, and others. Some ports are the same as SBS. Trying to NAT .148 to this server.
All servers are on VLAN 1 which has a static IP of 192.168.2.1. DHCP is controlled by SBS.

I have a little problem with my ASA 5510 version 8.2(1) with a IAS server RADIUS for strong authentication.
I have configured a double authentication for my client to access SSL portal:
First authentication: AD serverSecondary authentication: IAS for my token SAFENET ALADDIN The server IAS is declared on a W2K3 and it's standard.
The problem I have is that after more than 24hours of unutilization, when i try to log in, my authentication failed the first time and then the other tries work fine as long as I use it in a period of 24hours.
I first thought about the timeout so i tried to put a "timeout" of 15seconds for AD and IAS servers and a "retry intervall" of 3 seconds, it doesn't change much.
Is there a tool/option in the ASA to check connectivity with the radius every 1h for example.

ow to backup Cisco ASA-5510 from a Linux server via TFTP?I do know how to backup a switch or a router. Basically creating an access list such as:
access-list 55 remark PERMIT hosts requesting TFTP access
access-list 55 permit host 172.16.0.27
and allowing access to
tftp-server nvram:startup-config 55
all this inside the router or the switch. From the Linux box just running a simple command such as:
tftp 172.16.0.3 -c get startup-config newbackup.conf
where 172.16.0.3 is the IP address of the switch and newbackup.conf is the name of the config file stored on the Linux machine. So, how do I do that with an ASA box? how to backup ASA from inside it.

First off, let me preface this by saying that I'm a novice when it comes to firewalls and more specifically, the ASA. I do however, have an above average understanding of switches/routers.
We have an ASA 5510 running 8.3 and recently I've decided to clean up the last admin's mess. All hosts and servers are on the same subnet, multiple subnets on the same VLAN... and a slew of other problems. Anyway, I recently placed the IT department on another subnet to test some things out before I migrated other departments to different networks. Everything seems to be working as it should be with the exception of one of our servers. The IT subnet is 192.168.150.0/24 and the problem server is on the 192.168.10.xxx network. I'm guessing the issue lies somewhere in the fact this server does have a static NAT and is accessible from the public. Let me give you an overview of what our network looks like:
ISP ---->ASA----->3750----->2960
My workstation is directly plugged into the 3750 switch, and the server is plugged into the 2960. I'm able to ping this server by both IP and hostname. However, I cannot access port 80 by IP or hostname. The users that are on the 192.168.10 and 192.168.11 (sadly both of those are on the same VLAN) network are able to access this server without a problem. Thinking logically, I thought I would send a packet from my workstation, it would head to the layer 3 switch's VLAN interface corresponding to my subnet, realize the .10 network is directly connected and then forward the packet straight to the server. However, it doesn't seem to be working that way. It look like it's being routed to the ASA then being dropped. I guess there's an access rule or firewall rule preventing me from getting to the server. Is there a specific part of my config you will need to see...

I am trying to configure a Cisco 871 router. There are 3 servers on my network that need static public IPs but also still need to communicate on the local network.I have given my WAN interface the first IP in the block and set up PAT for the rest of the computers on the network with that IP which is working fine. Next I set up static NAT rules for the servers translating 3 of the remaining public IPs to the internal addresses of the servers.I can access those servers internally using the public IPs but not from outside the network. A traceroute from outside the network gets dropped when it gets to my ISP.I've never configured more than one static ip for a network before and i know i've just missed a step here. Do I also need to use static routes? Will that update the next hop's routing table? Do I need to make an ACL to permit any host to the servers? If so, do I use the internal or external address?
