Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 To Allow 2nd Network Segment Through Mpls

May 31, 2013

I have been having a heck of a time trying to configure my 5505 to allow the second segment on my network to use the internet. Office 1 has a fiber internet connection, and all traffic flows fine. Office 2 had gotten it's internet from AT&T, via a network based firewall injecting a default route into the mpls cloud. both offices connunicate to each other through the mpls.

When we added the fiber to office 1, we had the mpls people change the default internet route to the inside address of the 5505 and things worked fine. when AT&T attempted to remove the NBF defaut route, and inject the 5505's address as default, things didn't go so well.

AT&T claims that it is within my nat cmmands on the 5505, but won't tell me anything else.  I assume that they are correct, and I assume that I am not good enough with the 5505 ASDM to tell it what to do.

Office 1 uses 10.10.30.xx addresses and Office 2 uses 10.10.10.xx - the 5505 inside interface is 10.10.30.2 the internal interfaces of the mpls are 10.10.30.1 and 10.10.10.1

Cisco Firewall :: SSM-4GE Firewall Has 5 DMZ Segments And Specific Segment For Internet Traffic

May 23, 2013

I was asked to enable netflow in an ASA Firewall for Orion/Solarwinds server monitoration. Firewall is a 5550, with 4G RAM, and no extra modules but SSM-4GE. This firewall has 5 DMZ segments and ans specific segment for internet traffic.There are segments as unique subinterfaces in physical interfaces. Other segments as individual subinterfaces in the same physical interface (but individual VLANs)Usually firewall CPU flows between 30% to 40%. Rarely to 50%.

1 - How dangerous or risky could be implement netflow in this firewall?...This firewall is very critical for the customer. My concern is regrading CPU, traffic generated, memory, etc

2 - In a month, firewall will be migrated from 8.2 software version to 8.4 software version. Is there any incompatibility in some commands?...Would be recommended to perform netflow configuration after software upgrade?

3 - How could it be implemented for Orion monitoring, regarding each individual sub-interface (and so, each VLAN assigned)?I there any recommendation regarding configuration, best practices?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 / Multiple VLANs Behind Single Firewall Segment?

Feb 5, 2012

I need to create a firewalled segment that not only separates hosts from general population, but also from each other.  The solitary confinement of firewalled segments.I know that I could create a bunch of sub-interfaces, one for each host or group that needs to be isolated, but I'd really rather not have to do that if possible.  1) It could become a management nightmare between ACLs and sub-interfaces and 2) it's a waste of IP addresses.s there any way that I can create a bunch of separate VLANs behind the firewall and have them all terminate at the firewall, using a single firewall IP address for the gateway?

VLAN 1 - hosts 1.1.1.5 and 1.1.1.6VLAN 2 - hosts 1.1.1.7
Firewall DMZ Interface - 1.1.1.1VLAN 3 - hosts 1.1.1.8 and 1.1.1.9

This way, the hosts are isolated and can't talk to each other unless they're on the same VLAN.I'm working with an ASA 5510 running 8.2.4(4).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 / Can't Ping From OSPF Network To HSRP Segment

Aug 21, 2012

We have an OSPF network with four 6500 Distribution Switches.  They are fully meshed and see each other as peers and are sharing routes.  Off of one pair (Border)  there is a setup of 3750G  siwtches that go off to another network and they do not run OSPF.  Between the Border Dist and the 3750G Switches we run HSRP.  The 3750G side uses HSRP GP 192 and the Dist Side uses HSRP 192.There are static routes on the 3750G pointing to the Dist HSRP address to get back to network.Pings fail from the OSPF side to the HSRP address on the 3750G side.If I do a trace from the OSPF side to the HSRP address it hits one border dist switch then the other and fails.If I have static routes on both border dist switches pointing to the HSRP on the 3750side, do we need to change the metric on one dist so that it is preferred over the other or should the router Id take care of that?

Cisco WAN :: Adding MPLS With 1841 To Existing 5505

Aug 28, 2011

We currently have out T1 attached to a 5505. We have IPsec site to site tunnels that also terminate on the outside interface of the 5505.

We are getting rid of the T1 and bringing in a manged MPLS circuit which will run off of a 1841 ISR. I would like the 5505 to pretty much work as is with little change. Whats the easiest way to accomplish this? Of course the MPLS will come with new external IP.

Current Design --->    T1<------>[asa5505]<------->[LAN]
New design--------->    Mpls<------->[1841]<------>[asa 5505]<------->[LAN]

Questions:

1.  Whats the easiest way to drop in the 1841 without having to change all my ASA acl's.

2. How would I terminate my ipsec site to site tunnels on asa outside interface. Now that the WAN interface is on 1841 and not ASA how would I terminate the other side of tunnel? Can I leave my tunnel end points on ASA or do they now have to terminate on 1841?

3. How would I configue outside interface on ASA to communicate out 1841 MPLS?

Cisco Firewall :: Upgrade From 5505 To 5520 On Network - ASA Firewall Throughput

Feb 27, 2013

I'd like to see some REAL LIFE comparisons of ASA firewall throughput (a bit like this one for ISR G2 Routers - [URL].

The reason I ask is that I recently upgraded a firewall from an ASA5505 to an ASA5520 on a small network where the only outside connectivity was a single 10meg Internet circuit with an IPSEC VPN (not landed on the firewall but on a router) to another site.

When I swapped out the firewall the users noticed a big improvement. The firewall is not doing anything out of the ordinary - no IPS or VPN, just standard state full inspection.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5500 WAN Failover MPLS / Internet Using Dual ASA

Jun 1, 2011

I am putting together a solution for a client. The client has an MPLS circuit and internet as a backup circuit. I understand that we can do WAN failover using ASA5510 appliance.Now, if i am adding dual ASA5510 active/standby mode, How do i automatically failover WAN circuits to standby firewall if both MPLS and Internet circuits are connecting to primary ASA5510. Should i connect MPLS circuit to ASA1 and Internet circuit to ASA2? Ideally, i want both circuits to connect to primary ASA5510 for automatic WAN failover. My concern is , if the primary ASA5510 fails which has WAN and Internet circuits connected , do i need to manually switch connection from primary to standy? The goal is to fully automate wan failover and asa failover .

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 Connected To MPLS And LAN Via 6506-E Core Switch

Apr 19, 2011

I am attempting to install an asa 5510 at my hq.  Our MPLS network is provided by our ISP and the routers are managed by them.  They will be working with me to add the needed routes to the routers. Using version 8.4.1  That said, here is my challenge:

I am connecting the MPLS routers and WAAS device to my core switch(also performing inter-vlan routing) in VLAN 2. There are 3 connections needed for the mpls equipment and they are all in vlan 2 on my core switch.  The firewall (ASA 5510 with security plus licensing) also has an interface (outside) in vlan 2.

e0/0
shutdown
no nameif

[Code]....

configuration guides or suggest TAC as they have been a bit inconsistent with this issue thus far.  What am I missing because I cannot get to where inside interface of the firewall is pingable by the lan and the outside interface of the firewall is pingable by the lan.

Cisco WAN :: Zone Based Firewall On ASR1002 With Xconnect Encapsulation Mpls

Apr 3, 2013

we have an ASR1002 running zone-based-firewall with 2 zones:

zone_ouside
zone_ph

I have a common ZFW-configuration on that interfaces, e.g.

<code>
class-map type inspect match-any pass_cmap_in
match access-group name pass-ipv4-in
!
class-map type inspect match-any ph_cmap_in
match access-group name ph-ipv4-in

[code]....

There is some basic stuff in the Access-Lists; direction ph-ipv4-in contains basically "permit ip any any" and ph-ipv4-out contains some permits for certain services, but nothing else. The pass-ipv4-in/out ACL contains particularly the udp-500/4500-stuff as well as gre/esp/ah.

Here are the zone-pairs:

<code>
zone-pair security zone_ph-zone_outside source zone_ph destination zone_outside
service-policy type inspect ph_pmap_in
!
zone-pair security zone_outside-zone_ph source zone_outside destination zone_ph
service-policy type inspect ph_pmap_out
!
</code>

[code]...

The xconnect is only built up correctly when I configure the interface in the zone_outside. The destination for the xconnect is an ASR9k. If I do not configure the zone on the L2VPN-Interface, only arp-packet are allowed to tgo through the tunnel.

The L2VPN connects a branch office to the network of "PH". Now the trouble starts: when they are putting a host in the branch office, DHCP via the L2VPn works fine, they can ping anything from the branch office-PC in their local network and reach all internal servers etc.

BUT if they want to go to a destination outside their network, it will not work properly. For example, the branch-office-PC can ping 8.8.8.8 fine, but when they try to connect to a website, e.g. www.google.com, they run into a timeout. Netstat says, that the http-syn is sent, but no ack is received.

On the router, I see:

Session 1178BAE8 (x.y.225.250:2370)=>(173.194.35.151:80) http SIS_OPENING

whereas x.y.225.250 is the PC connected via L2VPN in the branch office to their local lan. When they put the same machine in their local lan directly behind the router (without l2vpn) everything works fine. When I switch off the firewall on the Gi0/0/0-Interface, the PC from the branch office also reaches its destination, so for me it looks like the firewall inspects the traffic going via Gi0/0/1 and L2VPN, what in my opinion, it should not do....

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Adding New Rule For Network?

I have an asa 5505 and I would like to adding a new rule for a network, however it was added, it seems it would be inactive. I have two inside network,192.168.12.0/24 (name: lanA) and 192.168.99.0/24. (name: lanB) I have the following in the running-config:

access-list lanB_acl line 1 extended permit ip 192.168.99.0 255.255.255.0 any
access-group lanB_acl in interface lanB_interface

But when I tried to reach a host in the lanA, the packets are dropped. I configure the asdm, which shows this on the LanB interface:

1 lanB_network | any | ip | permit (hits 344)
2 any | any | ip | deny

 and I checked the packet tracer with: tcp, source: 192.168.99.57:10460 dest: 192.168.12.2:443 and it shows that the packet has been dropped by the last 2. 'implicit any any ip deny' rule, in spite of my access-list rule (access-list lanB_acl line 1 extended permit ip 192.168.99.0 255.255.255.0 any) preceded it, and active.

The lanB and lanA interfaces are the same security level 100, and I can reach the outside/internet from 192.168.99.57 Is it possible that I have to reload the rules or something like in order to apply? Or I missconfigured something?

Why Don't Get Back An ACK Segment From Client

Jun 15, 2012

I am currently working on a project which purpose is to establish a TCP connection between a PC and a microcontroler.I configured (in C language) the µC as the server, and the PC as the client (in C#, using the TCPClient class).While running the codes, I capture the frames on the network with Wireshark.The client's ISN is chosen randomly by the TCPClient.Connect method.Since there will be only one TCP connection at a time, the server's ISN is always 0.The server's port is 0xC0C0 (49344) and the client's port is also chosen randomly by the TCPClient.Connect method.find the screenshot of the Wireshark's capture attached.In compliance with RFC793, the three-way-handshake should conclude with an ACK segment from the client.In my exemple, the client tries to connect three times, and then drops : the client sends no ACK segment.The µC's SYN-ACK reply may be bad configured .What kind of information did I miss ? Are there special data the client is expecting ? Why don't I get back an ACK segment from the client?
