Sep 4, 2012I've tried setting up some simple port forwarding on my ASA, where I want to forward one port on the external interface for both UDP and TCP to the same port on an internal server.
It works fine for UDP, but all TCP packets are dropped on the outside interface, even though the configuration for UDP and TCP is basically the same! This is my config:
object network MY_SERVER
host 10.10.1.4
object service TCP_MY_SERVICE

Port count goes up on line 2 (UDP) but never for line 1. I just see the packet denied instead. Same thing happens in the packet tracer, a packet destined for my external interface on that port for UDP is allowed and NAT'd just fine. TCP it gets dropped by the ACL on the outside interface.

But, no matter what, the I can't ping the static address or access the computer 10.2.1.2 from outside of the asa 5505. I have attempted to ping from inside of the asa 5505 or from another computer. I just does not work.
I also have created several rules that allows icmp traffic.
icmp unreachable rate-limit 1 burst-size 1
icmp permit any echo-reply inside
icmp permit 10.2.1.0 255.255.255.0 inside
icmp permit any echo-reply outside
icmp permit any outside

Nov 12, 2012I've attached a document showing how this network is designed. A client on a guest vlan behind the ASA, nat'd to one address on the public subnet, needs to be able to get out to the internet, and still come back in for specific services, such as OWA, via the IP which the mail server is nat'd to. The drawing is pretty explanatory. Do I simply need to create a NAT statement and ACL to allow that client out and back in, or do I need to set up hairpinning? I'm working with a Cisco ASA 5505 Version 8.4(4)3.
Note: The drawing has public IP's substituted with 1.1.1.x with final octet being accurate.

What I have successfully done:
- Modem online and passing on DHCP requests from the ASA to my ISP (ASA does get an internet address on the outside interface)
- ASA assigning DHCP to internal network
- All internal clients can access the internet.
What I am getting stuck on is getting NAT rules set up for simple port forwarding. What I would like: ANY internet address be able to access a server on the inside network address (192.168.2.x) over tcp/22 . I set up what I believe to be the correct NAT rule and Access Rule, but the packet tracer fails. Here is my config.

Question 1) - if I want higher security zone to to talk to lower security with NAT rules. I would use statements like below. Am I correct?

Is this correct? So in this case I am kindly of like overriding the no nat-control statement ...right?
Question 2) - Now I have no nat-control enabled. Would the below statements (nat 0) be of any use for NAT exemption??

Since last friday, they've seen the CPU utilization go up to high 90% while only serving 400+ remote users. I saw some high cpu utilization bugs, but none looked to be relevant. How I can find the root cause of the CPU high utilization?

Apr 26, 2011Just upped our external ASA-5540 pair to 8.4(1), and now one of our nat's is busted.
Here's the lowdown:
Our public IP for our IronPorts ends in .167. That IP is natted to a VIP on our ACE, which load balances to the IronPorts.
The outside interface of the ASA uses .162, which has been the pat for all outbound traffic for a few years... except for the subnet that houses the IronPorts. Due to reverse lookup, that subnet uses the .167 IP address for all outbound traffic.
After the code upgrade, the nat won't work. No email sent or received. Nothing but Deny's on the ASA with flags reading either "SYN" or "RST". IE: Apr 27 12:56:11 10.22.151.41 local5.crit %ASA-2-106001: Inbound TCP connection denied from 69.25.174.17/36917 to 207.236.211.167/25 flags SYN on interface outside
If I return the subnet pat back to the outside interface, then inbound traffic works fine, though reverse lookup fails and anyone running a reasonable spam filter won't send to us.

What is the process to do this safely? After removal will the HA wizard recognize that the module was removed or do I have to update the software?

We are currently on 8.2 code with this set of firewalls and I was going to upgrade it to 8.4 being I have a couple of other firewalls running this code currently and am familiar with it. That said, I saw that the 9.x code is out there now. Are there any major advantages or caveats with the 9.0 code? I plan to use this firewall with SSL VPN and RSA Secure ID integration for the next 2-3 years at least. Any quick pointers on these two code versions and on upgrading to 9 or staying with 8.4 line.

Apr 22, 2013I will be implementing a new firewall (cisco asa 5515x) on my existing 3750x (server switches) and my 2960s (user switches). What should I need to apply on my firewall and swtiches to make the implementation successfull. I will put my 3750x as my DMZ and my 2960s as my inside. The 3750x have multiple subnet and also the 2960s.which features and technologies i need to know on those 3 products. my 3750x and 2960s don't have any ACL defined and most common features are vlan, switchport, trunking, spanning-tree, stacking, vtp.how my asa knows that my 3750x/2960s have multiple vlans. my current connection right now on 3750x and 2960s is just through 6 ports i assigned as one trunk, below is my config [code]
my 2960s vlans are almost the same with my 3750x except vlan 160, 170, 192. but of course when i put this in asa, i have to segragate vlan for 3750x (192, 100, 110,160, 170) and 2960s (130, 150). for my 2960s connection to the asa and since this will have big bandwidth, i will use 3 ports on my asa (and trunk it) connecting to my 2960s and i will use 2 ports on my asa (and trunk it) connecting to my 3750x. the one internet ports and my one management ports on my asa will stay like that.

Nov 14, 2011I'm having a throughput problem with a new ASA 5540 running version 8.2 (1). When trying to access a database server using tcp port 1521 (sqlnet) it is about 10 to 20 times slower than when the database is not behind the firewall. We've been running the same software on a database behind an ASA 5520 running version 8.0 (3) with no problems for years. When I check the cpu usage on the 5540 at the ASDM home page, it is rarely above 20% and never above 30% while this is being tested. I tried testing ftp throughput over the same interface and it was normal with ~320 Mbps average rate transferring a 500 MB file.

Cisco VPN :: Juniper Firewall To ASA 5540 Drops Every 45 Minutes
Oct 10, 2012We have a VPN established between the above devices (I don't have more info on the Juniper as it's a client site) The Juniper initiates the VPN and all is well, tunnel is up all ok but approx every 45 minutes the VPN drops.
the tunnel parameters are set to keep it alive for 8 hours but that doesn't work.
