i am going to implement a ASA5505 in one of my offices. I would like to use web filtering feature on it. Will it cause any performance degradation in ASA? will it utilized more memory?
View 1 RepliesI've been trying to configured Websense urlfiltering using ZFW feature on my Cisco 881G router. The router is running on IOS 15.0(1)M with Advanced IP Services. And I have confirmed it supports urlfilter feature.
This is what I tried to accomplish but IOS version 15.0x seems to have different command set.

I have ASA 5505 running 7.2.4, I want to prevent users accessing some web sites such as facebook , youtube and hotmail etc.
Which ASA 5505 IOS version should I use to block web access?
I don't want to isntall a dedicated filtering server ( websense etc) , I just want to block web sites statically on ASA 5505 via ASDM as I only have few sites to block.
know if ASA 5505 can do URL filtering, and what IOS is required ?
I've a new Dlink DIR-632. All ports snif from outside are answering stealth by default. And the port forwarding feature works good.The problem is that I would like to allow a trusted net IP to reach my computer, whatever the request may be (whatever tcp/udp and on any ports). A kind of DMZ just for a precise IP. I tried the inbound filter feature. I've choosen allow, and I've put the remote IP start and end the same IP. It has been added correctly to the list. However, this IP still doesn't seem to be able to access to my computer on any port unless it tries on an already forwarded port.

But Websense and other Web Filtering Servers are paid ones ? Are there any free solutions available ? What exactly is N2H2 ? The reason is I don 't want to increase the CPU utilization of ASA by implementing URL filtering within the device. If I have around 30 nodes which connects to the internet via a 2Mbps line through ASA 5505 and if I want to block around say 10 or 15 URLs , will it increase CU utilization beyond permissible limits ? Currently the CPU Utilization is around 10 - 15 . Here's the infrastructure setup .

The default primary peer (a server) is one that is considered better than other peers for reasons such as lower cost, shorter distance, or more bandwidth. With this feature configured, if Easy VPN fails over during Phase 1 SA negotiations from the primary peer to the next peer in its backup list, and if the primary peer is again available, the connections with the backup peer are torn down and the connection is again made with the primary peer.

I've gone through all the documentation as well as different blogs but still not clear about the various things.One of these is NAT-CONTROL. I understand that this has now been removed. Does this means that traffic traversing the ASA doesn't need any NAT'ing commands unless specifically required by the administrator? In other words by default traffic is allowed through the firewall without any NAT'ing.
My Second Query
I've ASA5520 running ver 8.4(2). For inside interface, I've created 13 x sub-interfaces under Gi0/1. All have same security level i.e. 100. What I want to achieve is that:Traffic from these sub-interfaces should be NATTed to outside interface when going to internetBut, intra sub-interface traffic should be allowed without NAT'ing. I'm using RFC1918 on both sides i.e. source / destination The first point is not a problem it's working, however. I'm struggling with the second point. On ver 8.2, it wasn't a problem, I used NAT 0 with access-list permitting RFC1918 addresses as source and destination.
I have upgraded ASA5550 version from 7.2(4) to 8.4(2).
On version 7, I am used to "names" command, like this:

By addition, when configuring acls it was very usefull, for example:
access-list inside_access_out line 15 extended permit udp host Picard host 107.25.4.61 eq snmp
On version 8, I have verified that names replacement is no more available:

Should we active IPS feature in ASA 5500-x by useing license?in the 5500-x ordering guide:IPS is only sold as ASA-IPS combo SKUs i.e., one cannot add IPS service as an option on top of ASA SKU. For example, if IPS service is desired on ASA 5515-X appliance, the relevant SKU is ASA5515-IPS-K8 or ASA5515-IPS-K9.But my customer has actived it by using the ASA5525-IPS-SSP on ASA5525-K9.

It is filtering the ones we don't want ie: facebook, and youtube. Though it is causing all other https to slow to a crawl. Therefore some sites it times out on us. What should we be looking for to change so it isn't slowing the allowed sites down?

I'm primarily using Cisco CP 2.4 to provision the router with minor tweaks being done in the CLI. I want to set up a filter to allow access to roughly 20 websites for the majority of my network which is all on the same VLAN. The ip ranges are x.x.x.10 - x.x.x.169 which I have set into a Network Object group called limitac. The second group ranges at x.x.x.170 - x.x.x.199 and is called allowac. I have set up DHCP bindings for all the devices that will connect to the network but I want to set up a web filter for only the first group. I cannot seem to find anything in the Cisco CP manual or the IOS manual for setting up filtering for a range of IPs only. Primarily there are a few computers that need full access to the web while the others should only have access to the sites I set up in the filter.

The router has 12.4 (20) T4, which is supposed to be supported, the only other way of configuring is using CCP which is not compatible with SR-520's you recieve hardware not supported message's.
I have big trouble with easyvpn clients access filtering on asaos 8.4.1. I have couple of remote offices with hardware clients (cisco 87x, 88x) configured as easyvpn clients to Asa. Default route in it's routing table pointing to the Virtaul-Access interface (easyvpn connection to ASA), so there is no split tunneling or any kind of nat on the clients. I have ip-telephony deployed across remote offices. This remote offices should be able to call to each other.
On the ASA i have configuration for this purpose:
same-security-traffic permit inter-interface
same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
But as soon as I configured it, remote users obtain an ability to access Internet without any restrictions although there is couple of access-lists configured on the outside interface pointing to easyvpn clients. Then there is no same-security-traffic commands i can filter out access to internal and external resources correctly, but remote offices can't communicate with each other
I was just wondering if it possable if I could make a server with URL Filtering, Firewall, and a login system.So, when users want to use the internet they are required to login before they do. Is there a program out there?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt this moment (firmware 1.0.3.5) the router has no IPv6 firewall and therefore when used in a typical dual stack IPv4/IPv6 network it has no protection regarding IPv6 traffic. Hopefully this will be fixed with a firmware update before the World IPv6 Day on the 6th of June 2012.

I have 3 urls that I would like to block so I can't justify the cost of an external URL filtering server. I have found a way to filter individual URLs on the ASA but the same configuration does not seem to be available on the FWSM. At least not on my code. Any way to do this other than resolving the hostnames and blocking the current IP addresses?

I upgraded MY ASA IOS with 8.4.2 and CSC IOS with 6.6.1125.0 .
Then after HTTPS filtering fine with Firefox broswer but not with IE.
In URL blocking window i configured Public IPs of some https web sites then URL blocking working with IE.
