Cisco Firewall :: ASA5520 IPsec Client Reverse Path Failure
May 4, 2011
ASA-5-305013: Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for icmp src outside:192.168.13.50 dst DMZ2:192.168.13.15 (type 8, code 0) denied due to NAT reverse path failure
Cant seem to get around this one yet. I have a remote ASA that I can VPN into. It has 2 dmz's, outside and inside interface configured.
Inside subnet is 192.168.11.0 / 24
DMZ2 is 192.168.13.0 / 24
VPN client pool is 192.168.15.0 /24
I login in fine. But have no access to the DMZ2 subnet. I get the failure listed above.

After upgrading an ASA5520 from 8.4(1) to 8.4(4.1) I ran into the following trouble:
Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for tcp src outside:192.168.149.21/53 dst inside:192.168.37.123/53 [code].....
All the subnets mentioned above are connected via VPN.

I am trying to lock down the VPN access on my Cisco 5520 ASA's whereby I wish not to allow users to SSH access etc on servers running on the same interface that they are VPNing into.
I did not originally configure the ASA and so I am slightly confused by some config on it. Currently when I attempt to PING a server within the same interface as the VPN network I get the following error in the logs below.
5 Jul 05 2012 09:45:15 305013 monitoringsystem Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for icmp src dmzAHdata:VPN IP dst AHdata:monitoringsystem (type 8, code 0) denied due to NAT reverse path failure
As a workaround I created a NAT exempt rule which then allowed traffic to the server in question however I wish to limit the traffic to only ICMP and when I do this in the firewall it does not take affect. Is this because of the NAT exempt rule?

ASA running 8.2(5).When I enable ip spoofing on my network interfaces I see this getting logged:
Deny UDP reverse path check from 10.100.100.102 to 10.100.100.255 on interface SPECTRA-LAN
This is because interface SPECTRA-LAN (VLAN50) is the interface connected to the network with ip 10.100.100.0/24 but the interface do not have a ip address so it does not exist in the routing table I believe? However interface INTERN do also belong to network 10.100.100.0/24 which also is the management interface and the default route for hosts in network 10.100.100.0/24, but has no vlan.
1. move the management0/0 to SPECTRA-LAN and give SPECTRA-LAN ip 10.100.100.1?
2. give SPECTRA-LAN a ip address in the 10.100.100.0 range?
My routing table and interface list is:
Current available interface(s):
DATA-BACKUP Name of interface Redundant1.10
DMZ Name of interface Redundant1.900
GUEST Name of interface Redundant1.990
HOSTING Name of interface Redundant1.100
Infrastruktur Name of interface Redundant1.20

I am using an ASA 5520 running 8.2(4). My objective is to get a VPN client to access more than one network on the inside of the network, i.e., I need to VPN in with an IPSec client and be able to establish tcp connections to servers at 192.168.210.x and 10.21.9.x and 10.21.3.x, I believe I am close to having this resolved, but seem to have a routing issue.

I have a Cisco ASA5520 that I have setup to allow a GRE tunnel through from a router at site B. This all works fine when I use the below NAT with associated router object on the inside
object network SWTEST nat (inside, outside) static interface
My problem comes in that this kills off my Cleintless VPN connection to the same firewall, I changed my NAT to point at another of my statically assigned IP addresses, and then nothing works. Can anyone help with what I've done wrong, or what i should do? My rule base allows any GRE in from the source, and rules all look fine.

I was wondering if it is needed to license the IPsec VPN clients in the ASA5500 firewalls...I know that you have license the SSL VPN peers (AnyConnect). I am almost sure that for the IPsec you don't have to.

I am trying to implement IPSec Authenticated Firewall Bypass on windows vista clients within my microsoft domain to avoid implementing numerous windows firewall port exceptions for each client.
This is working internally on our network, between services servers (i.e AV server), and desktop clients. However i am having a problem when the clients are remotly accessing the domain via the VPN client.I have open traffic ports (IKE-UDP500, ESP - IP Prot 50, AH - IP Prot 51) bidirectionally between the remote vpn clients subnet and the services servers, however when the endpoints initiate traffic to the services server, the IKE traffic is unencrypted?

We have ASA5500's deployed for remote access concentration. We use Cisco IPsec vpn client with a group policy the chacks for Network ICE BlackIce ersonal firewall. The powers-that-be wish to change to McAfee presonal Firewall ok..Now the Group Policy allows you to check for several pre- configured Firewalls, Cisco Integrated, Sygate, Zone Labs etc.So as McAfee are no listed then I am to assume we go for "Custom Firewall" and this is where I am struggling. To configure checking for a Custom Firewall I must have the Vendor ID and the Product ID.McAfee haven't the faintest idea what we're talking about when we ask them for these details.Or is there a way to extract them from the registry of a machine with the McAfee product installed?

Our firewall expert has gone off on long term illness leave and I am trying to pick up the pieces :-(
We have an ASA 5520 (local office) talking to another ASA (remote office) via a VPN Tunnel.
My 1st problem is that I cannot ping from my inside network (local) to the outside interface of my remote ASA.
My 2nd is that I have debug enabled on my rules but am not logging anything.

I have a Cisco ASA5520 with Software Version 8.2(5) in place, most my users are Mac Users and I am currently looking into Cisco AnyConnect in comparison to using VPN client.
I have a couple of questions
1) Does Cisco AnyConnect make use of IPsec or is it soley SSL VPN based?
2) From the license information I have below in my ASA I understand that I can have max 750 vpn peers however am I right in saying that this does not apply to Cisco AnyConnect peers? and that with Cisco AnyConnect I can only have 2 peers? Also what are the disabled anyconnect options for?
Licensed features for this platform:
Maximum Physical Interfaces : Unlimited
Maximum VLANs : 150
[Code]....
3) When trying to set up Cisco Anyconnect on the ASA using ASDM, I noticed I needed to upload AnyConnect client images however when I did this by uploading the .dmg file for mac machines I got the error message "not a valid SVC image". Is this because I am running 8.2?

have just set up a WLC 4402 as a Guest WLAN controller on the DMZ of our network. I have successfully managed to get our internal controllers to connect to it, with the exception of 1. it says the control path is up but the data path is down. the other 14 controllers worked fine, and in testing the last one was OK but it is now not working properly. the 2 controllers can ping each other but just won't create the data tunnel. there is a firewall in the middle but that has been set up to allow traffic between the 2 groups of controllers to be unrestricted.
the internal controllers are 4404's and all controllers are running the same version of code. 5.1.151.0.

We are trying to add an additional LAN-to-LAN IPsec VPN to our network. We currently have one remote office connected, when we configure the second VPN matching the first the tunnel never begins to establish. There is an ACL that is dening the static IP for our remote office.
The layout is as follows:
Main office = ASA 5520
Remote Office A = ASA (Unknown Model)
Remote Office B = Adtran Router
All devices have static IP addresses.
We used the ASDM VPN wizard to create both VPN's.
We have created a rule allowing all traffic from our remote office IP, and that had no effect on the VPN aside from eliminating the following message from our logging:
4 Mar 19 2012 15:18:01 106023 67.50.19.230 50234 TWT-hq-e 31326 Deny udp src TWT-outside:67.50.19.230/50234 dst inside:TWT-hq-e/31326 by access-group "outside-in" [0x0, 0x0]
We have verified that both sides are configured the same however the VPN never is initiated so as of right now the ASA is simply blocking all attempts from our remote office to connect.

I have 2 data centers conencted via WAN and each has their own Internet conenction. One of the site's Internet is close to maximum bandwidth and we want to use the second site's Internet for future connections. The problem is the core switches in each site has a default rout to their local firewalls, so even if I can NAT on the firewall, the return traffic goes out whichever firewall is local and will fail.
So, my plan is to change the source IP address of the packets to be an address on the inside interface's LAN subnet. That way it is routed back to the proper firewall. I am able to do this with the following code, but this code only works with a static one to one NAT. I am limited in public IP addresses, so I want to NAT on a per port basis. Each time I try to change the any any to a specific port, it fails.
object network host-inside-int
host 10.1.52.172
object network host-outside-nat1
[Code].....

I am currently trying to apply a reverse NAT on asa 8.2 and not sure how to do this. I have done this on asdm 6.2 for asa 8.3 but the options are not simiar on 8.2. Is there a CLI equivelant?
I am trying to Achieve the object below for any traffic coming from outside interface to the inside interface with any source address to destination 10.X.X.58 then translate it so that it become 192.X.X.X to address 192.X.X.58. This is so that communications can traverse internal network as the server is not ona DMZ.
I have done this on 8.3 (shown below) but do not know if it is possible for 8.2, I have tried replicating the same command on 8.2 but commands are not recognised.
nat (outside, any) source static any 192.X.X.X destination static 10.X.X.X 192.X.X.58
Should I just upgrade to 8.3? never done it before so not sure of the consequences.

We succeeded in making IPSEC tunnel (ending "Phase 2 completed"), but we cannot make L2TP tunnel working. We're using RADIUS for L2TP authentication, but ASA doesn't even try to check credentials entered by use. The same set of credentials entered on Windows {XP, VISTA, 7, Mobile} works ok. Which debugging options should we turned on?

We have an ASA5520 configured with a IPSec VPN, from any ADSL home/office our VPN clients can connect without any problem, but when we use our cellular phones in tetering mode (as an accesspoint) our VPN clients are impossible to connect. Same machines, same software, same operating system, same remote IP (ASA5520 external IP) only change Wifi connection (ADSL to cellular phone). The signal of cellular phones is not the problem we was doing the tests with different phones (IPHONE & ANDROID), different locations (all in spain) and differents providers (vodafone, orange and movistar) of internet by cellular phone. We think that perhaps the problem is the licenses that our ASA5520 has..
Our ASA5520 comes with this licenses:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Licensed features for this platform:
Maximum Physical Interfaces : Unlimited perpetual
Maximum VLANs : 150 perpetual
Inside Hosts : Unlimited perpetual
Failover : Active/Active perpetual

I have an exisitng ASA5520 which is already working with remote clients using Cisco vpn client configured using ipsec over tcp, I am now trying to get vpn access for Iphones working and having a problem where once connected the Iphone cannot ping any internal device. The configuration on the Iphone does not allow for Ipsec over tcp and therefore uses udp 500 by default, if i create a new profile from a pc and do not use ipsec over tcp it has the same issue where it establishes a vpn tunnel but cannot ping any internal device as soon as I change the profile to ipsec over tcp it works fine.

I have implemented a Clientless SSL VPN solution with Smart-Tunnel feature on Cisco ASA 5520, software 8.4(4)1.I have been successful in making Bookmarks which employ Smart-Tunnel feature to avoid content rewritting (if any). And in reality it works fine with some links. However there are some links to an Oracle portal, it doesn't work.I was able to log into the Oracle portal with its username/password. However when i click into a button of the drop-down menu, nothing happens while normally there should be a box appearing. The Oracle portal runs with some Java stuffs which i don't really know as i am not a programming engineer anyway.

How do i acomplish that. Which NAT rules do in need?

I have the need to do an outbound NAT redirection. So what I mean is this. I have a custom program that uses SSH to port 22 from a server inside the ASA firewall. This goes out to a server on the Internet over port 22. The ISP of the SSH server told me that they changed their SSH port from 22 to 2102. So instead of changing the custom code on the developed application on the server... I thought it would be easier to do a OUTBOUND NAT redirection for the ASA to see port 22 from the server and redirect it OUTBOUND to port 2102.
so for example:
The server is at 192.168.0.2 and it uses a program to initiate SSH traffic to 205.246.1.1. The server sends to port 22 but I need it automatically changed on the firewall to port 2201 at 205.246.1.1.
It is a Cisco ASA 5510. The server at 192.168.0.2 does have a fixed IP address on the outside with INBOUND NAT for things like port 25 (mail) traffic etc. Lets pretend that was at 64.18.23.60.

A lot of times our users will have a bad connection from where they are connecting in from. Their Internet connection will drop and the VPN Client disconnects but on our Cisco ASA5520, the connection will still be connected and when their Internet connections comes back, they are not able to connect as the session is still up on the 5520. Is there a way to make the connection clear quicker? I have IKE Keepalives on the RA Profile (Confidence 300 seconds, Retry Interval 2 seconds) but it seems to keep the session longer than that. Is there anything I can do to make the connection clear quicker?
