Cisco Firewall :: The Number Of ASDM Sessions Has Exceeded 5 On ASA5520 Running
Feb 22, 2011
I have an ASA 5520 running version 8.2(1) and I am having an issue with ASDM sessions.I can SSH into the ASA and have tried to clear the sessions but they do not clear as per below.
An interesting point: the host dguselnx is my linux based computer that I am using to SSH to the ASA. I do not connect via ASDM from this device so it is strange that the hostid for the asdm sessions is showing as my linux host and not my Windows laptop (that I am trying to connect via ASDM from).
I have a problem with ASDM connection to ASA 5520 cluster. When I'm trying to connect the ASDM shows: "Contacting the device. Please wait..." and nothing happen. The http server is enabled with default port. Both cluster members after restart.
Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.4(1) Device Manager Version 6.4(1)
I am creating access rule on a ASA5520 running ASA 8.2 (1) and ASDM 6.2(1) and found that the GUI has less option then when creating access rule on a ASA5505 running ASA 7.2 (3) and ASDM 5.2(3) (see attachment). Is there an option that enables me to get the same configuration options on the ASA5520 running ASA 8.2 (1) and ASDM 6.2(1) as I have on the ASA5505 running ASA 7.2 (3) and ASDM 5.2(3).
We are running a ASA5520 with system image of "disk0:/asa843-k8.bin". I'm also running ASDM ver: 6.4(7)So my question is while I'm in the ASDM on the configuration of the firewall, I'm looking at the Access Rules. When I do a show log on any of the rules that have hit counts on them, it opens up a Real-Time Log Viewer but I don't see any information. It's not showing anything, nothing appears, it just sit's there like it's waiting but no data is coming. Even though if I go back out to all the rules, I can see the hit count incrementing. The same thing happens no matter which rule I pick with hit counts on them.
we have an ASA5520 need upgrade new anyconnect client, but the new version is too big, so it's no enough space. I want to delete the ASDM image to free the more space. My question is when I delete the ASDM image,if I could manage the ASA from web browser?
I have a 5520 ASA running 8.2(1) and ASDM 6.2(1). The ASA has been running for 223 days without issue. Today it stopped showing real time status on the Device Dashboard from within ASDM. All of the graphs state "Lost connection to Firewall."I try to manually reconnect but it will not. I have tried on a couple different computers and cannot get the monitoring connection to work.It is a very busy firewall and I will have to schedule for a restart (which I was thinking of doing) even though I do not see a memory issue as per snip below. I don't want to restart unless it is the best option.
I recently had a vendor configure our 2 firewalls (ASA5520). We are replacing a active-failover PIX525 firewall in 2 locations. After the vendor configured the new ASA5520's, I was unable to access the ASDM. The configurations are a basically modified versions of the config on the PIX525. I did find that they did not set the ASDM image path. [code]
I have tried from my browser as well as downloading and installing th ASDM on my computer.
I have an ASA 5520 new. I am trying to migrate from a PIX 515E. I can connect via the CLI and ASDM on the management port (IP 192.168.1.1 the default) What I am having an issue with though is when I change the management port to 10.0.1.1 via the CLI or ASDM I can no longer use ASDM. I issue the show IP command in the CLI and I see that the IP has indeed changed but I still can not get into it. I must be missing something really simple, but this is driving me insane. I want to change the IP because I need the a different interface to be 192.168.1.1.
I was going through the release notes on cisco website of ASA 8.4.6 and ASDM 7.1.3 but I just can not find a definitely answer: if ASDM 7.1.3 can run with 8.4.6?
I have an ASA 5510 in a live environment. Up til a short while ago I could access this via the ASDM and ssh. However I can no longer connect to it via eithier. When I access It via SSH I get a disclaimer saying the following
*** You have entered a restricted zone! Authorized access only!!! Disconnect immediately if you are not authorized user! ***
It then cuts me off.
When I try to access the ASDM I get the following
The firewall is running all its services without a problem and I can ping the device without any issues. Also none of the config (to my knpowledge has been changed). I set up a console session and http server enable is still there with
I'm running a couple of 5520 (with failover configuration) and fw 8.3.1. Everything worked fine until I try to upgrade firewall to new fw version: 8.4.1. [code]
When I try to upload new firrmware or asdm image, ASA, the appliance reboots during tftp session. I've already tried to upload new images on both appliance, or use CLI either ASDM, but the result is always the same: ASA reboots.
From my point of view, the problem isn't the image but could be the firmware I'm running, becouse using fw. 8.0.1 I was able to upalod asdm 8.3.1, but using fw 8.3.1 I can't upload the same image.
I have a new ASA 5510 running 8.3(1) and ASDM 6.4(5)
I am trying to use the real time log viewer to troubleshoot some access issues, but I am getting delays of up to 30 seconds or more between my client connecting to the ASA and the corresponding events showing in the RT Log viewer. I am using a simple filter for source IP as it's quite a busy device.
I've seen an article that says to turn off certain logging IDs (such as 304001 from memory) which I have done, but no different.
I have upgraded my ASA 5520 til version 9.1 with ASDM version 7.1. After the upgrade ASDM shows a lot of IPSEC VPN-sessions in the GUI that i cannot see from the ASA. Right now the GUI says that I have 28 IPSEC-sessions while the output from "show vpn-sessiondb l2l" shows the expected 4 tunnels and the output from "show vpn-sessiopndb remote" shows 0 as expected. (I do not use IPSEC from remote users).
I have a issue with 1142n.If I start from 15 sessions per AP then it becomes a very costly affair. Because there are almost 20.000 student.20,000 students * 60% concurrent use divided by 15 = 800 APs.what is a realistic number of sessions on this AP? What is max concurrent connections on this AP?
I´m monitoring the total number of concurrent sessions of my ACE 20 (using Cacti), and from time to time, with no discernable pattern, I see an instant drop of sessions to half...I don´t detect any disturbance with our traffic and service, I have no complaints, but it's a very accentuated drop.
I´m able to get 1 or 2 days withouth any suddent drop of connections, and then for no reason I pass from 500.000 to 200.000 sessions in a minute. Then they gradually go up again.
I´ve seen in ACE´s session table that she keeps a great number of half-open, or closed sessions, and those are counted as part of concurrent sessions. Is there any flush on ACE´s table when she reaches a certain number of closed TCP sessions or something like that?
I have a cisco 5520 running as IPsec concentrator. On the ASDM homepage is shows like 31 VPN connected. But if I go to Monitor > VPN is show only 18. Then if I use SSH using sh crypto command it shows the same number as on the Monitor > VPN sections. I am running 8.3(1) and ASDM 6.3(1).
How can I increase the timeout value on an IPSEC VPN tunnel running on an ASA5520? The users claim the tunnel is timing out causing transactions to stop flowing.
I have an ASA 5510 running ASDM 6.4(9) and Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.4(4)1.I am trying to configure for the first time and I am accessing the ASA via its Management Interface.I am successfully able to connect to the device and get to the Cisco ASDM 6.4(9) page. When I try to run the startup wizard, a couple of prompts displays up to the point where the java applet runs and aks me to enter my IP, username and password. As it is a new system, password and username is blank so I enter and I get a message saying "loading software from cache" which later changes to "software Update completed" and then nothing happens.I am running MacOSX 10.7 Lion, Java version 1.6.0_33.I did try and run this on a Windows system and i was able to load the interface.
I need to replace an existing ASA 5540 with a new ASA 5525X. I would like to pre-stage and configure the new box with the existing config, migrate license and export certificate files before swapping it with the old one during a change window. The new firewall will run 9.1 on deployment. Now the same 7.2(4) cannot just be copied over to 5525X running the minimum 8.6 version. There is a Web based tool available at [URL] according to Cisco documentation but the page does not load for me (Cisco intranet only tool ?). Is there another tool for automatic conversion ?
while traversing through Cicso ASA Firewall 5520,VPN sessions are disconnecting. In Accelissts for VPN-Outbound traffic from LAN to Client VPN ,we have allowed all Ports. Is there any inspection Rules are cause for this issue. In ASA Firewall, presently the inspection rules are [code]
In our organization ,recently we are facing a issue with VPN connections are disconnecting abruptly in reandom time periods ( 5Min,15Min,1Hr also). We have verified in our SysLog .[code] The same was worked well in Cisco Pix 515E Firewall ,After changed to Cisco ASA 5520,it is giving the issue.- All Ports are allowed for outbound traffic with a Source Network 172.16.40.0/24 to their Client VPN.- This issue is giving for other Subnet Users i.e 172.16.33.0/24 to their Cleint VPN sessions & I allowed all Ports for them for Outbound traffic. Any feature in ASA is casuing for terminating the sessions which was not in Cisco PIX 515E.- ASA version is 8.0.
This is an issue I'm currently exploring with TAC, but I'd like a quick reality check. We have a pair of ASA 5510s in Active/Standby stateful failover mode. In some tests failing over from the active to the standby system breaks SSH connections from hosts on our Inside to hosts on our DMZs.
A specific example is our backup server on Inside which is connecting to our mail server in the DMZ2, and running ssh/rsync/scp for the backups. A running backup job fails with network timeout errors when I trigger the failover. Also, sometimes the mail server loses or hangs on its connection to our LDAP server in DMZ1, although sometimes this connection is fine (DMZ2 is more "inside" than DMZ1, and I assume the LDAP look ups are many short connections, vs the rsync backup being one long connection).
TAC has suggested that open SSH sesions will always fail when the ASAs failover. I believe this is true for management connections to the ASA, but I don't see why it should be the case for an SSH session through the ASA to a server in the DMZ. TAC has suggested that I open some connections to servers in the DMZ and test what happens, and I can do so this Wednesday morning during a maintenance window. But, in general, is this true? That is, given an SSH session from a workstation to a server, should a failover break it? If so, why?
That is, all our inside VLANs are routed by our core L2/3 switch to a VLAN that connects to the Primary and Secondary ASA's INSIDE ports. There are also seperate VLANS on the core for the ASA's DMZ1 and DMZ2 connections, which go to both ASAs and to any servers in these zones.
The description of the ASA Stateful failover [URL]says: "The state information passed to the standby unit includes these:
· The NAT translation table · The TCP connection states · The UDP connection states · The ARP table · The Layer 2 bridge table (when it runs in the transparent firewall mode) · The HTTP connection states (if HTTP replication is enabled) · The ISAKMP and IPSec SA table · The GTP PDP connection database
[code]....
I'm not quite sure what the ISAKMP and IPSec SA tables do, but shouldn't an SSH connection through the ASA be just a TCP connection? "For us, SSH from Inside to hosts in the DMZ survives failover," or, "Yah, failover breaks all SSH sessions."
in Cisco ASA 5540 Adaptive Security Appliance Platform Capabilities and Capacities, I see Concurrent Sessions: 400,000. Which mean what device can handle 400,000 session and no more. But if I'm using TCP State Bypass Feature (Inbound traffic pass via ASA but Outbound goes via different device). I can see such connections via show conn command with b flag.
My questions: 1. Will this limit (Concurrent Session) affect in this case? Or ASA can handle more such connections (for example 800,000 ...) in bypass state? 2. It's possible to tune timeout for such connection without using global timeout conn? My problem what I want to do by pass tcp connection for one IP with has very high connection/sec rate.
How to schedule automatic Xlate sessions cleaning in ASA5550. I want to clear few global nat sessions manually every week.Is there any way to automate that?
I have FWSM running version 3.2(23) , configured with interface vlans , all having the same security level , except outside interface vlan which has security level 0 , also same-security-traffic permit inter-interface and same-security-traffic permit intra-interface are configured, my problem is when establishing sessions (I tried TCP only using ssh and telnet , in addition of ping ) from one specific vlan (172.16.1.0/28) to other vlan (172.16.1.16/28) , I can not see the established sessions in "show xlate debug" output ! although I can see these sessions from capture ! the two subnets are separate , two different /28.
I can see the session established from the remaining interface vlans with same security level toward 172.16.1.16/28 , my question is what is the exception with vlan having this subnet172.16.1.0/28, how it can reach other vlan with subnnet 172.16.1.16/28 without showing anything in xlate table ? do you thing it is bug ?
I need to know if I can pull Netflow style data (Top Talkers, Top Sessions, etc) from ASA 5505s? We are looking at buying some but I need to be able to export this kind of data to my managment station which is also a collector. I have read on this forum that 8.2 and above should support Netflow but I have read conflicting information.
I would like to configure an ASA5512-X in firewall transparent mode, but I am having trouble getting ASDM to lauch when I do.
I have created a BVI interface with an IP address, and I hve enabled the mangement interface, but ASDM does not lauch when I enter the IP adress of the BVI I created.
Apprently you need to use the bridge-group command to assign an interfce to a bridge group. When I enter this command at the (config-if) prompt for Management 0/0, this command is not recognized.
What are the general steps for configuring the management interface to be able to launch ASDM in transparent mode?
I would just like to to open UDP port 123 in the ASA 5510 Firewall so that our Primary Domain Controller could use this port to sync time with an external time source. We have already added an access rule for this port under the firewall configuration in ASDM 6.4 and this port was also allowed in the inbound and outbound rule of the PDC's Firewall but it seems that it was still blocked.
