Cisco Routers :: RV180W Add Access Point With Roaming Support?

Oct 20, 2012

I have a customer with a RV180w running the latest firmware.  We are currently using the router as a router and to provide wireless access.  We want to add wireless coverage and I am interested in our options.  We have a ethernet backbone which we could use to give the new AP LAN connectivity.  Can we buy another RV180W and use it in AP mode and provide roaming wireless connectivty.  The client wants a guest and business WLAN so we will use the VLAN feature of the router.  How do we configure the new AP?  Do we need to use WDS?   If we use WDS, can we still use WPA2?

Belkin Routers :: N750 - Wired Connection Can Ping But No Internet Access

Belkin N750 Router - wired connection can not access Internet. I've tried direct to modem and have no problem, have tried old router, no problem, but if I shut down desktop completely (Win7) and restart, I get no connection. Uninstalling the NIC (Intel 82579V Giga) and restarting, then I get connection again. However, if I start in safe mode with networking, I have no problems at all. I've disabled my firewall to no avail.

Cisco Routers :: RV180W - Outnumbered Errors And Continuous Lost Of Internet Connectivity

Apr 19, 2013

Looking for a SOHO device that could accomplish not only to connect people from home to Internet, but also to let me remotely access my work stuff (from my home office), RV180W sounded great and really cost effective. I could connect to Internet, FROM Internet, separate home, work and guest VLANs, all in just one device... sounded just GREAT! Bought one but (unfortunately) I have to say I'm quite disappointed with its performance, outnumbered errors (how many!) and continuous lost of Internet connectivity (can't stay a full day without one).I've searched a lot (not only here) and tried many things, listing some:

- Upgrading firmware (now v1.0.2.6): done several times, once with nothing connected to the router besides a local wired laptop, to ensure integrity
- Resetting to factory defaults and performing a "clean configuration", from scratch (done several times)
- Disabling Firewall functions (once all of them)
- Checking the real need of every option and making sure I had just the ones I needed configured

I have (in a very "consistent" way) the following problems:

- Poor performance (it's clearly much better when I directly connect to the cable modem's WiFi OR to another router connected to this cable modem). I could say that it seems to have 50% of the performance I had with my CISCO/Linksys E4200 and Netgear "elder" routers.

- Persistent disconnections / resets: Sometimes it happens only with wireless, sometimes it looses the "Internet forwarding capability", retaining the local wireless connection (to other devices), sometimes it seems to make a full reboot (including a new DHCP request to cable modem). In a day this happens several times, I'd say from 3 to 15 times, depending on the day (couldn't figure out why).

CPU utilization is always shown as being 100%, what sounds amazing, because:

- There are usually just 4 wired connections (3 storage devices + 1 Desktop) and at most 5 wireless connections (including my laptop connected to the main VLAN and 3 Android devices and 1 "guest" laptop connected to GUEST VLAN)
- The utilization % remains when I have jut one laptop performing Internet browsing and nothing more
- VPN wasn't enabled yet (and it will be, as I want to remotely connect to my home office) [code] ......

Cisco Wireless :: RV180W - Internet Access Not Available On WAP Guest Network

Mar 6, 2013

We have the RV180W router and the WAP321 access point in our business. We want to broadcast two SSIDs from both locations: the office SSID, which shares routing to LAN traffic, and a guest SSID.The office computers are attached via ethernet to a switch off of LAN port 1 on the router. The AP is attached to LAN port 2 on the router. On the router, the office SSID and the LAN are members of VLAN 1. The guest network is a member of VLAN 2. From the router, everything works just fine.On the WAP, the staff SSID works fine, but the guest SSID has no internet. Both the office and guest networks get DHCP successfully from the router. Our VLAN membership table in the router and WAP are attached, as well as other configuration details. Why would we not be getting internet on the guest ID only on the WAP?

Cisco Routers :: RV180W Site-to-site VPN And Client Access?

Feb 9, 2013

I am considering to buy two RV180Ws and place them on two separate locations. But before buying I would like to make sure that the units meets my requirements. Lets call the locations A and B. I would like to connect location A with full network access to location B. But at the same time I would like to have that location B also gets full access to the network at location A.Besides this I would like to be able to connect to one of the networks from remote with my laptop.Preferably all connections should be made using IPSEC and not PPTP.I would like to know if it is possible to make such a configuration, and eventually if there is a smarter way to do e.g. only letting clients connect to location A or B and granting them access to all ressources at both location A and B from there.

Cisco Routers :: RV180w VPN Configuration For Mac OS X

Jul 25, 2012

I am struggling to configure my new RV180w router to accept a VPN connection from my Apple computers.

I wish to use IPSec with Group and Pre-Shared Key authentication. The RV180 has just replaced my 800 series ADSL router and I want my remote clients to be able to connect using either the VPN client capability built into the OS X operating system or the Cisco VPN Client software installed on their Macs.

So far, using the RV180's web setup screens, I have created a VPN Policy and a corresponding IKE Policy was created as well. I couldn't see anywhere to include the 'Group' name. I have created a user but wasn't sure of which Protocol to use so I am trying XAUTH.

At the client end some people are connecting using Cisco's VPN Client software Download Software - Cisco Systems

Some people, with OS X 10.6 and above, are using the Mac OS X network built-in VPN client.

We all connected without a problem to the previous 800 series router using IPSec with Group authentication and Pre-Shared key.

Cisco Routers :: RV180W PPPoE Not Connecting

Feb 18, 2013

I am located in UK which uses PPoA for ADSL broadband. I use a DrayTek Vigor120 ADSL2 Modem to act as an ADSL bridge and PPoA to PPPoE converter. This passes the ADSL authentication requirement  (and subsequent single static IP address) to the Cisco Small Business RV180W sitting behind the Draytek. However, the RV180 (Firmware Version 1.0.0.30) cannot form the PPPoE connection. I have tested the modem, adsl username and password by creating a PPPoE interface on my computer and connecting this directly to the Draytek modem. The computer receives the expected IP address and I can ping remote public IPs. I have entered the username and password into the PPPoE profile,

Authentication type: CHAP (confirmed by ISP but I have also tried all other options just in case).
Connection Type: Keep Connected.
MTU Size: 1400 (also tried default, which worked OK on computer interface).
MAC Address Source: Use Default (I have successfully used combined modem/router so a "fixed" MAC address is not required).

Cisco Routers :: RV180W DynDNS / Update WAN IPA

Apr 11, 2013

I am using DynDNS in lieu of a static ip. My ISP changed my WAN ip last night as expected however the RV180W did not update the WAN ip, and so the router is now offline. Using a secondary internet connection I have logged into DynDNS.com and checked my hosts file and confirmed the ipa has not updated since March. I changed the update period from 360 to 2 so this never happens again, but I need to now change the WAN ipa in the RV180W to match the new one. I remember a screen that shows the current WAN ip address greyed out under the present one, but I dont recll where to go to get to that. I am at a loss as to where I go in the RV180W to change the WAN ip address.

Cisco Routers :: RV180W Wi-Fi Signal Strength?

May 27, 2013

We just recently invested in 5 RV180Ws to serve as replacements for the aging routers in 5 of our shops. Additionally, we bought them because they seem to offer robust WiFi options for customers/guests, such as multiple SSIDs and restricting 'public' traffic to it's own VLAN.

Straight out of the box we updated them to the new firmware, 1.0.2.6, set up 2 SSIDs (one hidden for employee use, and one broadcast for customer use), and plugged them in.

Everything seemed to be going great until we walked to the other side of the shop and watched the signal drop off almost completely. These are fairly small premises and the router can't be more than 8 metres from where the customers are, and yet the signal is so weak that it's almost unusable.

For reference, we have the WiFi running in B/G/N mixed mode to maximise compatibility. with the channel and width set to their defaults (Auto and 20MHz, I believe).

Moving the routers is only semi-viable; these are meant to serve as replacements for existing IT equipment, and the cabling situation means they can only really go in the office space near the rear of the shops. Also, it simply shouldn't be necessary; WiFi should extend well past 8 metres without issue.

How would I know the client's IP if I'm using WiFi connection from different places? Also, I'll be using my iphone to connect and the IP is not static. Is it Cisco not going to support this feature or already working on a fix? I searched the internet and some of the old topic on this forum.
