I have a Synology 1512+ and trying to setup Link Aggregation but no success. I have configured LAG Management with LACP enable or disable but still failed.
At the Synology 1512+ setting page, there are 2 options: IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation and Network Fault Tolerance (Non-802.3ad network enirovement), I selected IEEE802.3ad, which i think S200-18 should be able to support. right?
I am trying to setup a home network where I have multiple low bandwidth or rather lower bandwidth links coming in. They are suppose to be broadband but I do feel the need for a fatter pipe. Since this is in India and we have limited availability of bandwidth options like here in the US I thought if I could double or even get close to doubling my bandwidth using some sort of device for link aggregation or a network / pc setup which can achieve thisThe links I am getting are above 1mbps, possibly even 2mpbs and its relatively cheap, 100$/yr so I can add 3-4 to get desired results. A dedicated 10mbps connection costs nearly 12000$/yr so I have a lot of margin to create a substantial pipe without the cost if what I am thinking is possible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup Link Aggregation on this switch for an HP server with a 4-port NIC which is teamed. I create the LAG and see in the HP Network Utility where each port in the team disconnects then reconnects and the server has internet access, but workstations cannot access the server (can't browse UNC, RDP, ping, etc.) and vice versa. This is the only switch at the site, all the workstations are plugged into it. Rebooting the switch after creating the group didn't have any effect.

Without link aggregation everything works fine so I know the magic packet is being generated correctly and the NAS device is correctly configured to wake. After configuring link aggregation the device does not wake. Have tried dynamic (LACP) and static link aggregation but neither allowed the device to wake? When the NAS is powered off, the ports in the LAG still show as being connected at 100M but it appears the magic packet is not being transmitted.
answer regarding stacking the SGE2010 switches versus link aggregation if greater than 1 Gb connectivity is required between individual switches? Currently have several switches in a stack configuration but would like to increase the bandwidth between some or all of the switches. Does stacking support a link aggregation configuration? If so what ports can be used and how should the link aggregation be configured in conjunction with the stacking?

One department has recently employed more people so we have an SG200 switch to connect the computers and phones to. I don't seem to be able to get any connectivity between the new switch and the SG300 it is connecting to. I have setup VLAN1 and 10 as per the images below:
SG200-08 and SG200-08P fail to hold or update Date/Time.(New installation for a UC320 setup.)I've got both an SG200-08 and SG200-08P that are failing to maintain date/time when set with "Use Local Settings". Every restart/powercycle causes them to reset to Dec 31 1969. Other settings save fine.I first tried to set time via SNTP Unicast using a variety of public time server addresses including the 3 hard coded to the SG200-08 firmware:
Sadly though it always just shows "Active Server Server Host Address: 0.0.0.0" and continues having 12/31/1969 as the date. Both after a config save and a reboot.I can ping the NTP servers just fine from the switches either by IP or by hostname.At this point I've decided that I must be missing something simple. how to connect our new SG200-18 to an existing Cisco network, in particular a C2960S.Here's what I've got:

On the SG200-side I've set the IP-address and default-gateway accordingly, however:From the SG200 I can't ping any other host on the same IP-subnet as the switchFrom the SG200 can't ping the default-gatewaycan't ping from any other host or the default-gateway *to* the switch But:On the SG200 I've got plenty of MAC-addresses under "Dynamic Address Table" - however only MAC-addresses that belong to the management-VLAN of the SG200 (i.e. VLAN9 in my case)The MAC-address table on the SG200 even includes the MAC-addresses of hosts on the same VLAN I tried to ping without success. For example: I tried a PING from a host having a MAC-address of 00:19:bb:31:91:30. This MAC shows up in the arp table of the SG200. To cross check I connected a dedicated PC to the SG200 and assign it an IP-address out of the management-LAN-range of the SG200 - in this case I can access the switch (i.e. PING, WEB etc.)So to summarize: Connectivity is OK when going from directly connected devices to the SG200. No connectivity from devices that are behind the C2960S towards the SG200 and vice versa. (The problem is definitely not with the C2960S-side since we've got plenty of them hooked together without problems.) I'm enclosing the screenshots of the corresponding definitions on the SG200.
I'm baffled by the poor performance that I'm seeing when passing traffic between my two Cisco SG switches.
The configuration is as basic as I can make it, no VLANs, QoS or bonding. Both have been updated to current firmware as part of the troubleshooting process.
When I transfer data within one of my switches I see 50/60Mb/s. When I pass the same traffic between both switches I see 0.6 Mbs/ or less.
I have tried to eliminate every possible factor including switching out the cables. No success.
I'd like to use an SG200 swicth to allocate bandwidth on a 100 Mbps fiber Internet uplink.I will have 5 routers (each supporting a separate network) connected to the SG200, and I'd like to give each network 20 Mbps. QOS configuration, best CIR and CBS settings for this.

-n7k-d1 has two interfaces in a Port-Channel connecting to n7k-a1 & n7k-a2. (PC1)
-n7k-d2 also has two interfaces in a Port-Channel connecting to n7k-a1 & n7k-a2. (PC2)
My problem is that Spanning-Tree is blocking PC2 and all traffic from n7k-d2 is traversing the Peer-Link before reaching the Aggregation layer. Is this the best design for connecting two pairs of n7k's with vPC or if a better design would be to connect all 4 links into the same Port-Channel and vPC?

We want a solution for routing between N5K and VSS with aggregated WAN links.
DC1: It has 2 cisco 6509 with VSS. There are 4 server farm cisco4948 switches connected with VSS with redundant uplink via MEC. Server gateway is the VSS. VSS is running Eigrp routing.
DC2: This is a new datacenter we are going to establish soon. We are planning 2 N5K at core layer with L3 daughter card and 4 N2K as server farm switch. 2 N5K will have vPC peer between them. Each 4 N2K will connect with redundant uplink via vPC with this N5K. N5K will run Eigrp routing and will be the gateway of this new DC server.
WAN between DC1 & DC2: DC1 VSS will connect with DC 2XN5K with 2X10G links. we want to do MEC at VSS side and L3 vPC at DC2 side. If we have VSS at both end it might not be a problem. Both the link will work together as 20G aggregated link. But as we are using N5K at one end, so it creates a confusion whether it will work properly is this scenerio or not.Also I would like to know,
1) In VSS I have configured 1 VLAN interface for server gateway. But in N5K do I have to configure at 2 switch seperately?
2) In WAN routing VSS shows as 1 device. Does this 2 N5K will show as 2 seperate hops or L3 vPC will allow them to act as a single device while traceroute from one end to another end.

I've been having some issues lately where if I am copying large amounts of files two and from my NAS and thus saturating my gigabit ethernet, web browsing and internet streaming slows down which is a bit of a bummer. I figured I might fix this with link aggregation.
My switches (Procurve 1810G-24 in basement and 1810G-8 in office) both support 802.3ad Link Aggregation. It works beautifully to connect them together, as well as to connect my FreeNAS box to the switch as well.
how do I set it up to work with my Windows 7 box?

We have a project in which we are using 34 Cisco SG200-18's each with a MGBLX1 (LC Single Mode Fiber) SFP mini-GBIC.All the fiber's come back to one building where we must "bridge" all 34 fiber connections. What hardware should be used to accomplish this? A L2 switch? For example, a 12 port SFP Switch with Fiber SFP's accepting the first 12 fiber connections, then other switch with SFP for the next 12 and so on, until there is a overall capacity of 36 and having patch cables between the 3 switches?

I am looking after a mixed collection of Cisco and HP switches and use a Perl script to extract configuration data.I use the ifStackStatus table (OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.2.1.3) from RFC1573 to sucesfully obtain the EtherChannel data from the Cisco switches but, though I do obtain data from the same table from the Procurve switches it seems to bear no resemblance to Link Agregation. I could look at other tables and may have to - but would like to use this one in order to simplify the code.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are replacing some netgear switches with the Cisco SG200. The situation is relatively straightforward. We have a series of VLAN's coming in on a trunk from a service provider for our Metro Ethernet locations. These trunks then get cross-connect to various location for connectivity. The problem we have is there are two VLAN's that need to go to the same switch which provides access to our public IP block.
I set up the two VLAN's on the SG200 with the trunk port VLAN tagging on the service provider port. Then I set up a separate port for untagging the traffic with the PVID of the respective VLANS's as follows: [code] The public switch has no VLAN's configured (it is an SG200 too). If I connect GE2 to the public switch everything works fine. When I connect GE3 to the public switch, things die. I thought this might be caused by STP although STP should not be detecting issues like this across separate VLAN's. Disabled STP, no change.The same configuration with the Netgear worked without an issue. FYI, the VLAN's cannot be changed...they are defined by the service provider in this particular case. otherwise we'd just make them the same..
I need to purchase a few Gigabit PoE switches for a small business and I am thinking that SG200 or SG300 switches are perfect for this purpose.
Layer 3 functionality in SG300 switches is not great - HSRP or any other next-hop redundancy protocol is not supported, dynamic routing protocols are not supported, policy-based routing is not supported, etc. I may get one SG300 switch for inter-VLAN routing so that I do not have to send traffic to a Layer 3 device for this purpose, especially because my Layer 3 device (ASA5505) has only 10/100 Mbps interfaces. All other switches in the network don't have to be Layer 3 switches, and I am thinking of perhaps getting SG200 instead of SG300 swithces. However, because I am a long-time Cisco engineer, and know ins and outs of the IOS CLI, I would much rather administer the switches with CLI rather than GUI. So, do SG200 switches provide CLI (even if it is not officially supported) or is the only Small Business switch platform that supports CLI SG300? I do realize that the OS running on these switches is not IOS, but after having reviewed the CLI manual for SG300, I would say that 90+% of commands are identical to IOS CLI commands.
if my SA520w will support link aggregation for network devices within my LAN. If so, is there a Cisco wiki or how-to on how to setup this up in the SA520w? I only find a brief mention of this in Section D of the manaul.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two workstations running 7 Pro, each has a quad port intel card (PCIe) which I have created teams for on both sides using link aggregation. On my switch, a Cisco SG500X-24, I set up two LAG's with 4-ports each and have both servers connected as necessary. I turned on Jumbo frames and disabled energy saving. The teams were set up without LACP turned on, however I tried it with LACP and I also ran into the same problem. Both workstations have a 26TB arrays running in RAID 6 (so plenty of read/write speed), however, with this setup, I can only get about 100MB/s (single port speed) and multiple data streams cause the speed to divide. Only single ports blink on the cards as well.
Questions 1 is probably a no-brainer, but it's my first time setting this up, but once this is working properly, would it allow a single file to transfer at ~400MB/s or would I need to start multiple datastreams to take advantage of link aggregation.
Question 2 is what do I need to change to make the link aggregation work?
I do have a little linksys router plugged into a non aggregated port to do DHCP but that wouldn't mess anything up, would it? Considering I can unplug it once everything is talking, all the transfer should take place at the switch level, correct?
I just picked up a pair of 18-port SG200s, and I'm trying to figure out of there's some secret trick to getting CLI access to them? I've upgraded to the latest version of firmware (1.2.7.76) hoping that may work, but no luck.I can tell the guts to support a CLI are there, because writing the config out to a TFTP server shows identical an identical config style to the SG500 I have here.Is there some way to enable it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up three vlans across two switches. The switches are Cisco SG200 and SG 300 series. There are 20 devices connected to the two switches including a router for Internet. Among these devices are five wireless access points all hardwired to the LAN. If I understand correctly the first thing I have to do is aggregate the two switches. I ran two cat5 cables to ports 1 and 2 of each switch. As I understand it all I need to do is to create SAG with the two ports on each switch. I think I need to use tagging but I don't really understand how to do this. Once I get the trunking set up correctly I want to create one vlan to which all devices will belong for Internet access. The other two would be for data and VoIP. Do I create vlans with the same name on both switches? When I assign the devices (by port) do I need to enable tagging? Which type of port setting should I use? I am assuming that by including the acess points in the vlans will mean that any wireless device connected to them will have acess to the Internet and the devices in the same vlan.

I just purchased a SG200-50P switch to replace a WS-CE500-24LC, that had a limited amount (4) of PoE ports. I was running Cisco 7940 IP Phone, Cisco AP1231 and AP1100 series access points via PoE off of this switch.
When I attempt to plug in these device types into the SG200-50P they do not power up. What is going on? Why do these devices (7940 IP Phone, 7960 IP Phone, AP1100 series access point, AP1231 series access point) not get PoE from the SG200-50P switch?
