Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2821 - Router High CPU Utilization?

Sep 25, 2012

We've got Cisco 2821 for our 90mb/s Internet Access. Its CPU usage is around 80%. Show process cpu does not show any cpu proccess with high utilization. But we have got plenty of policing configured for our clients using policy maps. Can this policing affect cpu usage?

Cisco WAN :: High CPU Utilization On Router 2821 With 12.4 (24) T1

Jan 19, 2010

I have a Router 2821 with c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T1.bin and with a Cisco Integrated Service Engine(s) Cisco Unity Express 7.1.1 in slot 1 , this router shows a high cpu utilization.I think is a bug with the IOS , because there is no voicemail configured on the CUE, there is no traffic to the CUE , just traffic from:

- voice calls
- ospf
The ospf  is not the cause of the high cpu , because the high cpu utilization appears before I put the ospf proccess on the router.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: High CPU Utilization On 3750 - PID 296?

Apr 24, 2013

I've been looking at reported problems with our Vdeio Conferencing kit attched to a stack of 3750's (which I think is down to QoS) but this got me looking at the logs. We get a lot of high CPU utilization warnings mainly for SNMP (315), Hulc running con (95), Virtual exec (289). I understand the last two are normal, and the SNMP one is probably Cisco Works polling as it happens every 4 hours.
However I've got an odd one: Apr 25 07:34:58: %SYS-1-CPURISINGTHRESHOLD: Threshold: Total CPU Utilization(Total/Intr): 93%/0%, Top 3 processes(Pid/Util):  296/85%, 144/0%, 154/0%

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2821 High Interface Discards

Apr 8, 2013

I am having an issue pinpointing why my 2821 router is discarding so many packets when transferring data to our second site.  The traffic flows from the local lan, to the router, where it is redirected via WCCP to a WAN optimization device, back to the router and over a GRE tunnel to the second site where the same process happens.  The traffic does get there, but the LAN/Repeater router interfaces have around 20,000-60,000 input drops an hour.  From the output below, it looks like traffic is being dropped by the RP.
I just restarted the router as a last resort, and here is what has accumulated in the last 30 min:
FastEthernet0/0/1 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is Fast Ethernet, address is 0025.840c.7680 (bia 0025.840c.7680)

And CPU never goes above 40%

Cisco Switching/Routing :: High Fabric Utilization On 3560-e

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X 24SE-12.2 (58) SE2 CPU Utilization High

Oct 9, 2012

We have just purchased Cisco 3750X 24 S switches (QTY 2), last week we put them in prodcution in simple Layer 2 mode. No Core, just act as Access switch in order to only check the performace and availibility of switches.
But strange thing I have noticed the highest cpu utilization, cpu sits on 13 to 14% and from historical logs it hit above 60%. I am confused what is happening. Remember to terminate copper connection we have inserted Copper SFP Modules on both switches.
Both switches connected on Layer 2 mode via trunk, in LAN environment we have here 7 3Com 2824 Management switches which are terminated on Copper SFP modules at Cisco 3750X 24 S. All 3Comm Switches uplink are terminated on Cisco 3750 Switch 1, another switch is idle. Whole setup is running on VLAN1 .
Also refer no port in TCP and UDP packets in show ip traffic. any abnormal condition you predict..basically, In near days we plan to make these switches as Core layer and run intervlan routing, HSRP/VRRP and OSPF. But in this cpu usage how we can go ahead until this resolved..

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960 High Memory Utilization

May 2, 2013

I noticed on the 2960 switches we have deployed that are running the latest IOS, 12.2(58)SE2, memory utilization is really high (almost 80 percent). I have not noticed any side effects but I wanted to verify this is acceptable. My question is does the high memory utilization matter? I see this may be related to bug CSCtw83946 but no resolution is mentioned.
I did some testing various IOS revisions and below is what I have found using a WS-C2960-48TC-L with default configuration and only my laptop connected to a switchport in vlan1. You will notice memory utilization will grows with each version but jumps drastically with 58. One difference with 58 I needed to use a different command to retrieve memory utilization. The output was gathered by pasting the output of the show command into the Cisco Output Interpreter on their website.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: WCCP And High CPU Utilization On 2851

Jan 23, 2010

I have a Head Quarter and a remote site running over a OC3 circuit. [code]

On the HQ, I have a Cisco VXR7204 running IOS 12.4.15T(10) Advanced IP Serviceand the remote site is a Cisco 2851 also running IOS 12.4.15T(10) Advanced Ip Service.  The HQ has a Riverbed Steelhead 5050H capable of delivering 100MbpsWCCP throughput.  The remote site has a Riverbed Steelhead 1050H which can deliver 10Mbps WCCP throughput.  At the HQ, the LAN network is Steelhead residing on the network.At the remote site, the LAN network is and Riverbed resides on the network.
When a host on network download a file from network192.168.251.0/24 network via http, the CPU on the Cisco 2851 goes to 99% utilization and that it stays there for the duration of the http session.  There is very little traffic goes across the WAN whichis the way it should be but the CPU on the 2851 stays at constant at99% CPU utilization.
Why would WCCP consume so much CPU on the Cisco 2851?  By the way, I am only getting about 5Mbps download instead of 90Mbps download, I think because of the high CPU on the router?
