Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configuring OSPFv2 On A Nexus 5K Switches
Nov 8, 2012
Configuring OSPFv2 on a Nexus 5K switches, after configuring area 0 or area 10 it shows as 0.0.0.0 or 0.0.0.10 instead, I'm planning to uplink a couple of ASAs with OSPF enabled, just wondering if the area format showing will be a problem, is this how is supposed to look in the Nexus 5K? and will the 5K be able to form adjacensies with other non-Nexus devices that have area 0 and 10?

I'm looking for some input on configuring vPC on the Nexus 3048.I know that it's supported to use 1G interfaces for the vPC Peer-Link, but using 2x1G for the Peer-Link would make the Peer-Link a bottle-neck if the 10G ports are used in a vPC. What about using 2x10G ports for the Peer-Link and using the remaining 10G ports in one, or potentially two vPCs. Should that work or is it in any way not recommended? The reason I'm asking is that the 10G ports are called "Uplink" ports in the data sheets for the 3048.
We are planning to connect some servers to the 3048s using vPC with each server connected by 4x1G interface (2x1G for each switch), and then we want to connect a Netapp storage system with two controllers using 2x10G each (the controllers are active/passive, so you can think of it as two separate systems). We would connect controller A with vPC 1x10G to each switch, and controller B in the same way with vPC 1x10G to each switch.

I want to configure management for some Nexus 5548's?I wanted to manage the switches via an SVI. I have read the following document which gives details about the Management SVI but doesn't answer all questions.[URL]I am not running any layer 3 functionality on the switch, no layer3 license (which it mentions in the above link) Will I still be able to create a management SVI. I know I will need to enable the feature 'interface-vlan' to setup a Management SVI, does that require a license?

I currently have two Nexus 5548UP switches in my environment running the latest code (n5000-uk9.5.1.3.N1.1a.bin). Both of these switches are connected via a VPC Peer Link (two ports on each switch in an Ether Channel) and a VPC-Keep Alive Link (a dedicated port). Hosts connect to each switch via a VPC for both IPV4 and FCOE.
As of right now, everything works. I currently have a stack of two 3750 switches that each Nexus is connected to. This stack is doing all the Intra-VLAN Layer 3 Routing for the Nexus Switches. However, I plan to get rid of the 3750s, and move the Layer 3 Routing the Nexus 5548's, so the backplane is 10 Gig instead of 1 Gig.. I have the Layer 3 Daughter Card installed in both switches, as well as the LAN_BASE license.
So, at the moment, I am trying to find the best way to accomplish Layer 3 Routing on these two switches. Since the Nexus switches are not stacked, and the FCOE portion of HA is taking care of by the Multipathing agent on each host, I believe am just concerned with providing Intra-VLAN routing in an HA build where if one switch goes down, VLANs still route through the other switch.
Again, since the Nexus switches are not stacked, I am guessing the best way to handle this is with HSRP, but my experience with that has always been with routers that have a switch in the middle. Can I make HSRP work without having a switch between the Nexus switches? Can I track the VPC peer link, or how do I do it? I guess I am looking for a sample config.
Let's pretend I had two VLANs:
VLAN 20:
10.20.20.254 - GW and 10.20.20.0/24
VLAN 40
10.40.40.254 - GW and 10.40.40.0/24
And I wanted the Nexus switches to route these VLANs regardless of which switch was up / down..

I'm trying to configure intervlan routing between a cisco 2801 router and HP/Amer switches. Using int fa0/1 and subinterfaces I was sure I had it configured correctly, but I cannot ping the default gateways when I place a host in a particular vlan. Below is what I have configured.
HP switch - port 9 connects to fa0/1 on 2801
ip default-gateway 10.1.100.1
trunk 9 Trk1 trunk
trunk 10 Trk2 trunk - to another switch

I've been conducting research on configuring 3 distribution switches in my network which are Cisco Catalyst 4507's to communicate with our core over layer 3. Our core switch which is already configured at Layer 3 for intervlan routing is a Cisco Catalyst 6509.
I've got the configuration portion complete and all devices are able to communicate my only question is about QoS. Do I have to configure QoS at the layer 3 interfaces for voice, if so how is that completed. We have several vlans and separate the vlans for each building by voice and data. We only configure ports on the access switches with voice vlans for QoS and we use the auto qos option on these interfaces.

I've been asked whether we can use HP-branded 10G SFP+s (P/N 455885-001) in Nexus 2Ks to provide 10G connections to HP C-Class enclosures. We've used HP-branded twinax, and Cisco-branded SFP+s and twinax, but we have a raft of HP 10G SFP+s sat in a store room gathering dust and now we want to save some money by not having to buy the Cisco parts to match.

I have 2 NEXUS switches in VPC. When I create/delete a VLAN gets updated in the same switch, but the VLAN information does not get propagated to the neighboring switch. Revision number remains the same even if I modify the VLAN. Had also tried changing the VTP status to transparent mode & reverting it to client mode but no luck.Have double confirmed on the VTP domain names & password. However the same setup in different location which works perfectly fine.

I am trying to understand what load balancing method is used on a port channel on a Nexus switch . I have a server connected by a VPC to two Nexus switches. The nexus switches are only acting as layer 2 switches. I have a 6509 connected via a upstream link that does all of the routing for my VLANS. If have a server connected to the Nexus switches and it talks to a server on my 6509 what load balancing happens on the Nexus going across VPC 27 which is a layer 2 trunk going up to my 6509. Is it done on layer 2 or layer 3 flows?
My Nexus shows the default load balancing configurations
Port Channel Load-Balancing Configuration:System: source-dest-ip
Port Channel Load-Balancing Addresses Used Per-Protocol:Non-IP: source-dest-macIP: source-dest-ip source-dest-mac

We are looking forward to implement IBM BladeCentre Swiches connectivity with Nexus 2k module.I would like to brief you about my network over as follows:
Coreswitch : 6513 ( Layer 3 switch + Spanning Tree root)
Nexus 5010 : Layer 2 switch
Nexus 2k 10G ports based module.
Currentl Solution : we want to connect the IBM Blade Switches (4) as demonstrated in the attached diagram which will be connected to Nexus 2k module as Ether-channel Access port.
Initially we been proposed by our vendor with this design and Now vendor is recommending us to connect the Blade switch etiher to Nexus 5k switch or directly to 6513 core-switches instead of Nexus 2k modules as they say Nexus 2k modules are only to connect the Edge devices .
We do not have ports available on Nexus 5010 to connect the cables from IBM Blade Centre Switches. Otherthan that, incase if we go ahead and connect the IBM Blade switches as access ether-channel access port with Nexus 2k module what are consequences we have to face realted Spanning tree or any other.

Connecting a legacy Nortel switch (425/450/470/BPS) to a Nexus 7000 via gigabit fiber? I have a customer trying to do it and they say that the connection never comes up. The support on the Nortel stuff is long since expired, so Avaya is not being particularly useful. Apparently Cisco says the issue is "fast link pulse to the BayStack to determine the capabilities of the uplink and the BayStack is returning all zeros." I have not verified this and actually have not yet gotten my hands on the Nexus side of things

- trill or another ethernet ring topology like erps,eapsv2,
- Multi chassis LAG,
- virtual routers, policy routing
- dcb

How to properly power down the Nexus 5000 and the fabric interconnect switches? I have looked up and down cisco's and google web for steps, but they are all coming back with the answer to just disconnect the power cables after you have power down all the windows os and exs servers. Before i do that, I just wanted to make sure that that's the correct way to do it or if there are actual commands that I will need to run on the devices to properly power down. I know that the FI do have a command to reboot, but i need them to completely be power down.

I have a router on which I would like to create a port channel that spans two different Nexus 2248TP switches, and then create a couple subinterfaces on the router's po interface. I've done this successfully on my primary router, but the config doesn't seem to work on the backup router. The primary is running IOS 15, while the backup is running 12.4.25d advanced IP. I do see the trunk come up from the switch side, and my router subinterfaces and po interface show up, however I'm not able to get anywhere from the router. It's not even able to reach other hosts on the same network. As soon as I remove the port channel config and use the physical interface and assign the same address used on the port channel interface, everything works as expected and I have connectivity.
interface Port-channel21
no ip address
hold-queue 150 in

interface Port-channel21.248
encapsulation dot1Q 248 native

The company I work have finally decided to enter the 21st century and invest in a new telephone system (Interactive Intelligence) to replace the legacy system which has served us well for the past 10 years. The project has only just started and involves upgrading sections of CAT3 cabling to CAT6, replacing Cisco 3550 switches in one area of the building with Cisco 4507 switches and upgrading our Core switches with Cisco Nexus 7010's. The area that concerns me most is enabling the network for qos as I have very little experience with it. At the moment Im trying to read as much documentation as I can on QOS to bring myself up to speed.
The access layer switches will consist of a mixture of Cisco 3750 & 4507 switches connected to Cisco Nexus 7010 switches which will form a collapsed aggregation & core layer.
Basically, how I should approach this daunting task of making sure the network will support VOIP.

I am in the process of migrating our existing server farm subnets to our new Nexus server farm and I discovered something I wasn’t expecting. My intention is to migrate our existing legacy server farm which is comprised of for paired 3750 switches off of our core 6509s and onto the Nexus and connect them to the 2232s via multi gig port-channel connections, two port channels per switch stack.
NOTE this is expected to be a temporary move as next year we intend to install additional N2Ks and move servers over to these directly. But to minimize the outage/downtime it will be better to move the subnets and switchs all at once.
These connections would be grouped 1 gig connections as port channels, one from each switch into one of the two 2232s.
Problem I discovered is Cisco does not intend to have switches connected to the Nexus and it immediately disables the ports when they see BPDUs.
I found a config that does work and it does fail over from one port-channel connection to the other but with the limitation that when the original port channel comes back online it does not fail back over to the original one, an acceptable situation for us. But I am wondering if Cisco would support this design if we did experience issues down the road.
The only issue I really see is to get it to work the config is different on the two N5Ks, see the pert config below for the connections. Both are running the same OS

Configuring an application using routing mode on cisco ace clients ---asa--3750--cisco ace--- servers behind vip, visa card transaction servers.i am able to setup a vip on ace using routing mode on ACE,as the servers need to see the client ip ,so we are not performing SNAT,this part is working fine, when a request comes from the client ,it goes to the vip and to one of the backend servers ,and the request will be forwaded back to the ace ,as the default gateway on the servers is pointing to the server vlan on ace.but if the transaction from the servers need to go to the visa card transaction servers ,how can we achieve this ,and after fetching the data from visa servers, does the reply will be fwd to the ACE or ASAs directly.
