Cisco Switching/Routing :: When Failed 6504 Comes Back Online With Higher Priority And Preempt Set
Jul 17, 2012
I'm having with VSS Failover. Currently I have two 6504's setup for VSS with one connection to the sup engine (10Gig__Connection) and the other connection on the Module 3 10Gig Blade and the same setup on the other 6504.My question is: If the active 6504 has a power outage or the link on the sup engine goes down, and the standby 6504 becomes active, what happens when the Failed 6504 comes back online with a higher priority and preempt set? What happens with the 6504 that took over as Active and now eeds to go back to Standby, what's required?
What I'm seeing is once the Standby took over and became Active in order for him to go back to Standby mode it's asking for a reload to take place is this NORMAL?
Got call saying some users were down, found root cause, card dead on a 6509.

My web browsing/surfing speed decreases when I'm transferring files between other computers which are connected to this modem, and when a torrent client is downloading from 20+ seeds. I want to give the HTTP connections (port 80) the highest priority possible, so that my connection wouldn't delay when non-HTTP connections are active. The interface of the modem related to QoS settings are as below:What QoS settings should I enter (what rule(s) should I define) for giving HTTP protocol higher priority?
Information about my environment:

I have a Cisco 8510msr that is connected back to back with a 7206vxr across a 155Meg connection.I receive lots of Output drops on the 7206vxr interface facing the atm switch. When I do the following command:-

I only have 44megConfig. is ACTIVEkwdair9# I only get 44Meg of the available 155Meg.There is no QOS on the router and the only commands I can find that vaguely see that refer to QOS are on the ATM switch:-

I have two site that has a copper wire ( 2 wire) connection between each router ( No Telco in between ). Now I want to use 1921 router with HWIC-4SHDSL-E card to connect these two site together. Can I use attach configuration to make the connection reference from the diagram ?
I have 2650XM router and 2620 Router Both routers have built in WIC T1 CSU/DSU cards

My question is that cisco website says there are two type of cable connections for this type of config --which are --T1 CSU/DSU ConfigurationSet one CSU/DSU to clock source internal, and the other CSU/DSU to clock source line. The linecode, framing, data-coding, and timeslots must be set the same on both CSU/DSUs.Four-Wire 56k CSU/DSU Configuration For my network connection which type of config i should use??Secondly i try to connect these ports by normal crossover cable it did not work.So for this type of connection i know i need T1 cross over cable-- which has RJ 48 connections at both sides.I check cable from ebay which is RJ45 RJ48 cross over -- will this cable work in my router to router connection.
I have 1 2611xm router and 1 2801 router. For my own lab purpose, i want to configure them back to back to support voice services. I don't know what configuration will be required at each end. in 2611xm, i have NM-2V and its also detecting the card, so i hope it will work ? also what commands i need to run on both ends .
We have implemented VSS on Cisco 6504-E switches using the 10GE links on the Sup-720-10GE. Two Cisco WLC 5508 controllers are planned to be connected in a LAG configuration, (consisting of eight links per LAG bundle) to each of the 6504-E chassis( Total of four WLC, two for the primary location and two for secondary location). WLC HA feature may be implemented on the primary and secondary WLC controllers using the 7.3 latest code release.
In this scenario, i would like to seek clarification on some of the design /configuration requirements on the 6504E switches:
1. VLAN 100 - 200 is configured for the Active Primary 6504-E switch and VLAN 200-300 for the Standby 6504-E switch. The IP scopes for the VLAN are defined in the 172.16.x.x range on the Primary and 172.17.x.x on the secondary. As there no cross links(Multichassis LAG) from the WLC controllers to the 6504-E switches, is it better off implementing a single common VLAN range on a single subnet block for the VSS, which in the event of say Primary switch failure, the Wireless APs do not have to re-associate with a different IP range on the secondary? What is the best design practise in this case?
2. What is the best practise for implementing a single management loopback address for the VSS domain- is this implemented using a port channel (Layer 3 MEC) as below? and is the loopback IP address on a totally different IP range reference to point 1 above?
Can the VLAN IP ranges on the 6504-E VSS be assigned in two different subnets say 172.16/12(100-200) and 17.17/12(300-400) and the common loopback (lo0) in 172.18.x.x/32 or is it better to have one common 172.16/12 subnet spanning the entire VLAN range (100-400). Cisco documentation describes creating port channels from the line card card physical ports as opposed to just creating lo0 and advertising this into the IGP.
int g1/x/1 desc VSS Management channel-group mode 101 active int gi2/x/1 channel-group mode 101 active int po101 desc VSS Management ip ad 172.18.x.x/32
We recently wanted to swap our existing WS-SUP720-base with a WS-SUP720-3B in a 6513 chassis.Had the existing configuration config saved in a txt file and replaced the supervisor. Booting went fine and we pasted in the original config. There was one failure message about unnsupported command but didnt take further notice."boot system flash sup-bootflash:" was probaly the line that the 720-3B didnt support. After wr mem and reload it went in continious loop and rebooting due to inncorrect boot device. Had to put back the old supervisor and have now the 720-3B in a 6504 chassis. Tried some commands in rommon, but are not getting any further.
We currently have a WS-C6506 chassis with a line-card WS-X6408A-GBIC. Currently we need to replace the chassis by a Ws-6504-E and also the line-card. My question is: What must buy line-card and meets the same specifications of WS-X6408A-GBIC?.
We have network topo ( attach file)Two switch run VRRP, if I ping 10.0.10.3 from switch SW-6504-01 with source 10.0.10.2, ping lost one packet every 10 packets. We have other interface vlan with same problem
this is some config:
! interface Port-channel1 switchport switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport mode trunk no ip address ! interface GigabitEthernet3/47
After rebooting a pair of 6504's configured for vss, both switches show active on the sup modules. A show switch virtual redundancy however shows the pair working in an active/standby mode. We have 6509's in vss pairs and they show active on switch1 and standby on switch2 led's. For the 6504's switch 1 was booted first and then the second switch about 30 seconds later. Is there something different with the 6504's? [code]
we are seeing network latency problems and our cpu on the 6509e is spiking and have a above average % for the past week or so. When we do see these spikes it seems that snmp and apr input is high

we recently upgraded our 3560 switches to the new 12.2-55 ios version but have not upgraded our 6509 because its ios is on 12.2(33)SXJ1. Not sure if this is related or not but it seems that after we upgraded to the later ios that the latency started.over the last 24 hours the spike is several times an hour and at least one a day that it hits the 90 - 100 % mark.is there a way that we can limit what snmp view but would not effect functionality or network?
We have Four 2960S Switches in Stack. We have created Multiple VLANs. While Pinging from Member PC to Member VLAN IP on Switch, we are getting Higher TTL response & Some ping breaks for One Particular VLAN. While pinging from Member PC to Member PC, we are getting Normal Ping Response.
Have laptop connected to home network. Printer keeps showing offline and wil not print. Have went to control panel and set as default printer. I see no selection to change to "online" Other computer prints with no problem.
I am having Cisco 3845 series router with c3900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M2.bin IOS . I want to install new Licence on it for DATA. When i am trying to install licence on it i am facing the error "% Error: License installation failed with error: XML parsing failed".
I have an older (but still good) computer...it's gotten to the point of being somewhat less than functional due to remnants of old programs and viruses and such scattered thoughout it. After a few weeks of fighting it to get it to run properly I think at this point my best option is to reformat the hard drive and re-install the original OS from CD. I've already backed up all my important files to CD and DVD, pretty much ready to pull the trigger here.... Concerned about getting back online! I have cable internet (Bresnan)...I want to make sure I have the proper drivers and any applicable software to get back online, I know people have had problems with this after reformatting....The computer is a dell dimension 8400, I'll be returning it to a windows XP home edt. with sp2 from the OS CD, (circa 2004ish). I plan on putting a comodo firewall installation on a CD as well, so I have a functional firewall in place (instead of the crappy norton one that will get re-installed) when I go to get the sp2 updates and the sp3 and updates and not just end up re-infected again...
Recently we will add 2 new core Switch 3750X, these 2 equipments will manage the spanning tree ( root)my idea is to change the priority in order to make 1 or the 2 of them the root, my question is if i setup the same priority for both when one go down the other will assume the role of root in the spanning tree topology ?
Why is it when I set the port priority for example to 8192 and I then do a show spanning-tree vlan 1 it shows as 8193, does it add the vlan number? so if it was vlan 10 it would be 8202?
If after having an active peer-link port-channel between a couple of nexus 7010 I change lacp system-priority on both boxes and then I add a new member interface on that port-channel , that interface will be aligned with new lacp system-priority value but the old member do not and so I have to reload those modules which include old member interface.
After opening up Solarwinds NPM, I noticed that a few of my interfaces had lots of discards (who knows how long it's been sets the counters were reset)
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/25description Etherchannel to MamaCassswitchport trunk encapsulation dot1qswitchport mode trunkswitchport nonegotiatepriority-queue outchannel-group 4 mode on
interface GigabitEthernet2/0/25description Etherchannel to MamaCassswitchport trunk encapsulation dot1qswitchport mode trunkswitchport nonegotiatepriority-queue outchannel-group 4 mode on
interface Port-channel4switchport trunk encapsulation dot1qswitchport mode trunkswitchport nonegotiate,It looks as if priority-queue was configured outbound on these interfaces, could this be the cause of the transmit discards which are now up to 79,835, I just reset the counters on the interfaces a little while ago.
I'm not the best in the world when it comes to QoS, we do have some VoIP phones, but they are only a specific network, and do not travel outside, since there are used mainly for VoIP training. I do know both interfaces are running the default of FIFO.
May I know how to manually set the priority (root ID and bridge ID priority) and for spanning tree? Which one should I use based on the command below? and how does it affect the path cost of it?
I have a 7K running 6.1 code, on F series line cards. I need to set it to prioritise DSCP EF marked traffic, that's all at this stage, but am unclear on the configuration steps required. The packets will already be marked, I just need to ensure they end up in a priority queue.
I have a Cisco Catalyst 2960 with IOS Release12.2(53)SE (because of a contract I can not update it) -> the release notes for this version describe the following:
When auto-QoS is enabled on the switch, priority queuing is not enabled. Instead, the switch uses shaped round robin (SRR) as the queuing mechanism. The auto-QoS feature is designed on each platform based on the feature set and hardware limitations, and the queuing mechanism supported on each platform might be different. There is no workaround. (CSCee22591)
My config is as follows:
interface FastEthernet0/1 switchport access vlan 200 switchport mode access srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20 priority-queue out mls qos trust dscp auto qos voip trust no cdp enable network-policy 1 spanning-tree portfastMy question now is:When the priority queue is not enabled with auto-qos because of the software bug is it nevertheless enabled with the additional priority-queue out command?
I am getting ready to make changes to our spanning-tree configuration in the data center. In familiarizing myself with the network I noticed that our core switch (6509) wasnt the spanning-tree root for the datacenter.
When I enter the spanning-tree priority command on the central 6509, will it be a hitless change (i.e. will there be any disruption to the network) ? All switches are connected to the core/central 6509 by a direct connection.
I know that when I change from pvst to rapid-pvst that the network will bounce because of the change in configurations to all of the switches.
i have a 3560 connecting to a sp with limited bandwidth. i have one interface on the switch whose traffic i do not want to drop. i want this traffic to go into the high priority queue. i am not sure how this should be configured, but here is my best guess and my current qos configuration on the switch:
I am trying to implement priority queuing (LLQ) on a pair of 10GE links between a 4507 with Sup6E and a 4948 which are configured as an etherchannel. I am unable to configure a priority queue on the 4507. I am running into the following issues:
I want to have a priority queue for voice traffic and specify minimum bandwidth for a critical application. If I configure a class with the priority command it will not let me use the bandwidth command on another class unless the priority class is policed. If I try it without the police command I get the message "bandwidth kbps/percent command cannot co-exist with strict priority in the same policy-map ". If I add a police statement to the priority class then I don't get this error.
When I try to apply the resulting service-policy to the physical interface it says "% A service-policy with non-queuing actions should be attached to the port-channel associated with this physical port" and does not add the command to the config.
If I try to associate the same policy-map to the port-channel rather than the physical interface it says "% A service-policy with queuing actions can be attached in output direction only on physical ports" and does not add the command to the config.
All of the other interfaces on the 4500 are working OK. The trunks have auto qos voip trust configured and access ports are marking the critical application traffic.
The 4507 is running 12.2(44)SG1 EnterpriseK9. I don't have the luxury to upgrade blindly to fix the problem unless I can identify a specific bug that is causing the problem.
I need to get some low volume, interactive data, prioritized on frame relay PVCs across our network. I have followed the CBWFQ examples from cisco.com, but my test packets are still showing latency over 1 second. My lab set up has a corporate connected gateway router linked via FE to testrouter 50. TR51 has a T1 frame relay loop to another router acting as a frame relay switch. The other side of the FR switch has a 56k link to testrouter51. I am sourcing test pings from my desktop PC, that are marked as AF43, and leave at a rate of 1/second, when the response comes back in time. I am using a Smartbits to generate some default class traffic at a rate of about 56Kbps only in the 'outbound' direction, toward TR51, as this emulates a file copy from corporate to remote sites, that is causing the AF43 traffic to suffer. Here is the relevant config on the TR50 device:
class-map match-all rtu-data match ip dscp af43 ! policy-map frame-56 class rtu-data priority percent 20 class network-mgt-data bandwidth percent 5(code)
