Cisco :: After Tunnel Is Established Can't Ping Anything On Other Side

Jan 20, 2013

i successfully established site to site with 2 two ASA 5010. The problem is that traffic on not passing, This is current setup:1) Left side : only 1 private network 3) Right side : 1 private network, management network, 2 DMZ networks with public IP, On right ASA some netting is setup so servers in DMZ can be reached from private network. The goal would be that VPN client on left side can reach all resources on the right side (except management network, Just to get things going tunnel is built with only left and right private networks, but after tunnel is established i can't ping anything on other side.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 Hangs On Reset If VPN Tunnel Is Established?

I was hoping that the latest firmware would fix my (2) 'bugs', but it did not.  We are using the RV042s at our remote medical clinics as an end-point VPN router to our Nortel 1700 VPN router, replacing our old Nortel Contivity 100s.When I try and do a reset when connected remotely via the WAN interface, the RV042 hangs and will only reset by re-powering.

Cisco VPN :: Getting IPSec Tunnel Established Between 887VA And SRP527W Router?

Jul 22, 2012

I'm having some problems getting an ipsec tunnel established between a cisco 887VA router and a cisco srp527w router.I am working from a few text books and some example materials. I have worked through many combinations of what I have got and am still struggling a little bit.I look at debug results and it appears as though the policies do not match between the devices:

Jul 23 05:44:37.759: ISAKMP (0): received packet from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX dport 500 sport 500 Global (R) MM_NO_STATE
 broute1#
Jul 23 05:44:57.079: ISAKMP:(0):purging SA., sa=85247558, delme=85247558
 broute1#
Jul 23 05:45:17.031: ISAKMP (0): received packet from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX dport 500 sport 500 Global (N) NEW SA

[code]....

Some specific questions:

1) on the SRP in the example's I have used (and I have a few SRP->SRP VPN's that work) I see you need to enter the preshared key, I'm not seeing in the examples I have used anything about the IKE preshared key on the IOS box. Any examples where you use the preshared key for IKE? I wonder if this is my primary issue as it states clearly in the log that there is no Preshared key :|

2) I have used a mish mash of names between the various sections as on the SRP the naming convention isnt the same; ie: which parts of the IPSEC negotiation come from the IKE policy section and which from the IPSEC policy section. Do the names really matter across different ends of the VPN?

3) I notice when I perform this command in the(config-crypto-map)#:

set peer FQDN

It is converted to:

set peer XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

Is this expected? I want the device to look at the FQDN as this particular host is using DDNS and not use a static IP address.

Cisco VPN :: 5510 - ASA 8.4.(1) VPN L2L Can Only Be Established Through Default Gateway

Jun 19, 2011

We have an ASA 5510, with two internet connections. One inteded for VPN l2l and the other for general users inet access.

On asa 8.04, I configured the crypto map on inteface "VPNAccess" and a static route to the L2L remote peer through VPN internet access, the default rotue was pointing the general inet router.

We bought a new firewall with 8.4.1, and now asa only tries to initiate traffic if remote peer is on the default gateway.

It ignores more specific routes (i mean longer masks) and always tries to use default gateway, but only for VPN, if I make a trace route for that peers it uses correctly the routing table.

Cisco WCS
Shoretel voip
(Cisco NAC?)

Several different VLANs for wireless guest, student traffic, staff traffic, voip traffic, etc. Which device would be best and should we get the security plus license with it?

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5510 / VPN Tunnel Drops Due To Inactivity?

Dec 12, 2011

I am using a Cisco ASA 5510. Our tunnels always drop due to inactivity, which is a security issue I understand, and it only takes some "interesting traffic" to bring it back up. My problem is that it looks like the interesting traffic has to originate from my side of the tunnel, when our clients send traffic and the tunnel is down due to inactivity it does not come back up. Is there a setting that I am overlooking that will make it come back up no matter who sends traffic? Or, is there a way to make it stay up through inactivity?

Obviously our crypto map's don't match, i have it restricted to specific ports on my end and he had it wide open on his end, but said he is not sure how to restrict it down to specific ports. Cisco VPN :: 871 / 5510 - Any Way To Force Traffic Bound For 192.168.1.x To Go Over VPN Tunnel

Apr 3, 2011

I have 2 Cisco 871 set up to vpn in to an ASA 5510.  Everything has worked even when the 871 is behind a nat.

We use these routers to send to employees home for temporary use.

The WAN ports on the 871 are configured to pick up an IP via DHCP.

Office ASA 5510 - Public IP address
WAN - Public IP
Internal - 192.168.1.0/24
|
Internet
|
Home Router
WAN - Public IP
Internal - 192.168.1.0/24
|
Cisco 871 picks up 192.168.1.x on WAN port from user's home router
Internal vlan1  192.168.10.x/24

The problem is - this user's home router is using the same subnet as the internal network at the office.  Is there anyway to force traffic bound for 192.168.1.x to go over the VPN tunnel?  It does this correctly if the 871's WAN port is not also on the same subnet. The vpn tunnel does come up.  And I can ping to and from the router, it's just the clients behind the 871 that cannot ping or access the corp network.

Cisco VPN :: 5510 - Slow Throughput On L2L IPsec Tunnel

Jan 8, 2013

I am experiencing slow throughput on a L2L IPsec tunnel that we have between one of our offices on the west coast (WC) US and another on the east coast (EC) US. The tunnel endpoint on the WC resides on a 5510 and a 5545x on the EC. The DIA circuit speed on the WC is 45 Mbps and 200 Mbps on the EC. The throughput of this IPsec tunnel is maxing out at approx. 4 – 5 Mbps. The utilization of the DIA circuits at both offices is under 5% when running various FTP test transfers. Both devices have low memory and CPU utilization.

We have a 2nd office on the EC (45 Mbps DIA) which I built a tunnel on a 5510 with the WC office and it is experiencing the same slow throughput. In covering all my bases we have a colocation facility on the WC and in building a tunnel between the 2 WC offices I WAS seeing close to full line rate speeds over the tunnel. Additionally, I built a tunnel between the 2 EC offices and I saw full line rate speeds. With the physical distance between the WC & EC offices I would expect some loss in throughput speeds but I would not expect it to drop as low as 4 – 5 Mbps. In thinking something may be up with the 5510 in our WC office we shipped a 5505 to the WC office and we built the same IPsec tunnels on it and it is experiencing the same.

In working with our support vendor to try and solve the WC <-> EC throughput issue they had me change the MTU, TCP mss, DF-bit, types of encryption/hash on the IPsec tunnel but nothing has resolved it.  We are not showing fragmentation or PMTU issues on the tunnel. In contacting the ISP of our WC office they mentioned that they do not have any type or rate limiting in place. Our WC ISP had a CCIE review our configurations but nothing was found.

Cisco VPN :: 5505 / 5510 - Several Devices Not Communicating Across Tunnel

Jan 30, 2012

We have a new site-to-site configuration comprised of two ASAs (a 5505 at the remote site and a 5510 locally).  The site-to-site tunnel is up and appears to be working fine, with the exception of one thing; two identified IP addresses on the remote end cannot seem to communicate across the tunnel.

For example: address 192.168.3.81 is able to see resources at our facility, but 192.168.3.82 (an HP Laser jet P2055dn) cannot.  However, 192.168.3.82 is ping able from the inside interface of the remote ASA and doesn't appear to be having any other connectivity issues.  Also, the default gateway of this device appears to be set properly.  When checking the real-time log viewer, I'm not seeing any error messages, it just appears as if the .82 device is not routing to the remote ASA, but strangely enough the local ASA's logs do seem to show communication with .82.  (See the below logs.)

When we attempt to ping the 192.168.3.82 address from a local PC (10.10.10.10) that participates in the VPN tunnel, we see the following:

Local ASA
6|Jan 31 2012|16:03:53|302021|192.168.3.82|0|10.10.10.10|512|Teardown ICMP connection for faddr 192.168.3.82/0 gaddr 10.10.10.10/512 laddr 10.10.10.10/512
[ code]....

Remote ASA
6|Jan 31 2012|16:03:53|302021|10.10.10.10|512|192.168.3.82|0|Tear down ICMP connection for faddr 10.10.10.10/512 gaddr 192.168.3.82/0 laddr 192.168.3.82/0
[ code].....

We can successfully ping 192.168.3.81 from the same local workstation we see the following on the remote ASA :

6|Jan 31 2012|16:03:38|302021|10.10.10.10|512|192.168.3.81|0|Tear down ICMP connection for faddr 10.10.10.10/512 gaddr 192.168.3.81/0 laddr 192.168.3.81/0
[Code]....

We have no IP address overlapping and neither ASA's logs show any errors. Unfortunately, we don't have access to the remote site's router configurations, but we've been assured that the issue is not on their end.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 To ASA 5510 Tunnel Freezes After 8 Hours?

Apr 18, 2012

I have a RV082 that has an issue keeping an IPSEC Gateway to Gateway VPN running from itself to our ASA 5510. At 8 hours of connectivity (I can almost set a clock to it) the Tunnel will say it is connected on the RV082 but on the ASA 5510 the tunnel is not up.

If I click on disconnect on the RV082 under the VPN Summary page things will come back up. from the ASA 5510 side there is nothing I can do to get things back (ping inside "vpn network" or even trying to make a connection to a networked VPN machine).

To make things more complicated I have another VPN on the RV082 to a PIX 506e that works with no issues. I also have another RV082 at another location with the same settings that keeps its tunnel with the ASA 5510 with out any issue. Some things I have tried to try and fix the issue are:

I upgrade the firmware on the Rv082 V3 from 4.0.0.7-tm (what it was shipped with) to 4.1.1.01-sp) - This seemed to have no effect.

on the RV082 I have changed the MTU from automatic to 1428 and 1452 - all this does is make the connection to the PIX 506e unstable like it is for the ASA 5510 I have changed this back to automatic.

since the time of stability seems to be 8 hours I have changed the "Phase 1 SA life time" and "Phase 2 SA life time" to 28800 both at the same time and individually - This seemed to have no effect.

The current configuration on the RV082 are:
Local security gateway type: IP Only
IP address: (local ISP provided static IP address)
