Dec 23, 2011Currently I have an ASA setup as a Firewall with 1 outside interface and 2 inside interfaces. Initially, the Guest interface was setup to receive DHCP from the ASA and everything was working. I'm adding router and a server for the guest interface and what I'm trying to accomplish now is the following: ASA 5505 > Airport Extreme with a public static IP (69.xx.xx.6), handling DHCP and NAT > Mac Server as DNS Server.Right now, when I connect to my Airport Extreme with any computer, I don't have internet. I don't understand what's wrong. My DNS Server has a reserved IP address: 192.168.226.2 and it's pointing to itself and forwarding the ISP DNS servers, the Airport Extreme is handling the DNS Server IP and the ISP DNS Server IP but I can't connect to the internet from the server. [code]

Mar 1, 2012We have a user who needs to access a vpn from his MAC through an ASA 5505. The user is getting an IP via DHCP and the outside interface of the ASA gets it's address via DHCP as well. The user states that when he is home or anywhere else but behind the ASA it connects fine, but once the ASA is added it times out. He is able to get to the internet from the machine without any issues. Looking over the config on the firewall it isn't set to deny any traffic and there is a global set on the interface and it is nat the inside interface. There is no global policy in place so I was considering implementing the following:

Jan 2, 2013I have an RV220w in office, which I have configure it for ipsec vpn connections. Behind router there is a NAS for file storage. [code]I have managed to connect to router from my home with ShrewVPN and I can ping every client connected to RV220w.The problem is that I can't connect to neither to router's web interface nor to NAS web interface or any other intranet web page ( the browser doesn't give any error, but keeps loading without showing the web page). Although, I can access web pages from my laptop.Also, in windows file explorer when I connect to NAS, although I can browse folders I can't copy files from my laptop to NAS and vice versa, I always get timeout error (I have checked the permissions to NAS and in addition I succeed to copy a small txt file 1kb, but no luck with bigger files).I also tried with QuickVPN client, but I had the same results. When I connect with pptp from windows everything works like a charm.My laptop has windows 7 64bit.

However, one of my colleagues is convinced that the license for the 5505 is *not* based ont he number of IPSEC endpoints, but the number of distince connections via *any* tunnel. So, according to him, if you have a license for 10 IPSEC endpoints, if you have 11 people connecting via *one* tunnel from a customer's network to our cloud, you go beyond your license.

3)Â Â Â Â We allow the website to time out while we are uploading data packets
4)Â Â Â Â When we attempt to re-access the website the ip is blocked a)Â Â Â Â this includes pinging and trace
5)Â Â Â Â After an undertermined period of time the ip is unblocked and we are allowed to access it again.

The ASA 5505 router is the last forward facing stop before entering the VPN tunnel. We have tested by circumventing the ASA and we are unable to duplicate the disconnect. We have reviewed the config file and have not been able to identify what rule/settings could be affecting this.

when tracing port usage, the actions use 2 tcp ports and 1 udp port, the 2 tcp ports open and close by each transaction, when the ip block occures the 2 tcp ports are "dead" the udp port remains open (appearhently sending the remainder of the data packets)

I am able to create 2 LAN networks (192.168.9.0 and 172.16.9.0) Vlan1 and Vlan12 respectively. I also setup 2 outside interfaces (outside1 and outside2).

Network 1 (192.168.9.0 - VLAN1) has no issues going out via Outside1, however I can't get Network 2 (172.16.9.0 - VLAN 12) to go thru outside2.

I put in a static route (route outside 172.16.9.0 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x), the x.x.x.x is the default gateway of my ISP.                 Â

Nov 21, 2012 A client has an ASA 5505 with a base license. The version information and configuration is attached. In 8 hours, sometimes less and infrequently more, it becomes inaccessible. All connections are dropped and the only way to access the device is through a console connection. The WAN interface (VLAN 3) is connected to Verizon FIOS. The interface was set to 100 MBps and full duplex, but I just changed it to auto on both the speed and duplex to see what would happen. The LAN interface (VLAN 1) is also set to 100 MBps and full duplex It has not been changed.

The last time it happened logging was running, but nothing in the log indicated a problem. In fact, the last log entry was a couple of hours before the lockup (there's little or no traffic on the ASA while the problem is being diagnosed).

Mar 20, 2011One of my remote sites acquires Internet connectivity via a cable modem service. This goes down intermittently, of course. I would like to purchase DSL service from the local telco and configure the edge ASA (currently a 5505) to use the cable modem path normally ... and fall back to the DSL path if necessary.

These seems hard to do. The edge box would need to evaluate the viability of a WAN path using some set of tests ... perhaps pings to a handful of major Internet sites. If all those pings start failing, it would stall for a minute, to give the WAN service provider time to recover ... then cut over to the second path. Cutting to the second path might mean pushing new DNS server addresses to clients (or perhaps the edge box would hand out both sets of DNS servers all the time and rely on the clients to try them all.) Once the cable modem provider restored service, the edge box would stall for a while (ten minutes? an hour?) and then cut back.

I'm willing to replace the edge box with something fancier (a bigger ASA or something sold as a router or whatever), although I'd like to stay under 10K (list) for such a replacement.

I'am a user of perfect-privacy.com (who provide VPN access for safe internet usage) and want to force the users of my internet connection to use perfect-privacy. On my old router i only allow access to the domain *.perfect-privacy.com and deny all other domains. To surf the web it was nessesary to connect via VPN (example server: moscow.perfect-privacy.com) to surf the web.
I've tested the Parental Control, but when i have activated it, i can access perfect-privacy.com, but i can't open a VPN connection to a Perfect Privacy server. Is there any way to configure Parental Control to allow VPN connections, or realize me needs in another way?

Aug 14, 2011Attached is a diagram of my network. My company has leased some office space to an outside company that handed me a 5505 and said "We want to VPN to our HQ through your Internet". I have two issues: I need this to work and I need to be able to access the 5505 from the management network. I don't care about the VPN aspect as much as making sure that I have basic communication down. I have everything configured per the diagram, but I can't ping the 5505 outside (Vlan 2) interface. I want to be able to configure and test the VPN setup on the 5505 from Putty on my PC.
The default route on the 5520 sends traffic to 10.10.1.1 and the default route on the 5510 sends traffic to the WAN interface. I added this route on the 5510:
outside 10.94.4.0 255.255.255.0 10.10.8.1
I still can't ping the default gateway on the 5505. There is a switch between my PC and the 5520 but the default route passes the traffic to the 5520. However on my tracert I don't even get to the 5520. Do I have to add a route to the switch just to manage the ASA 5505?

May 20, 2012I have ASA 5505 with 8.4(2)8 software for one of my branch offices and I can't configure port forwarding.It seems to be very simple, but it's not working. I use my ASA as a gateway to the internet for users in office and for site-to-site IPSec VPN to HQ. I have pppoe-enabled outside interface, but ISP gives me static routable ip address. I have server behind my firewall and I should "publish" to the WAN some of its' tcp and udp ports, but I see that no packets forwarded through ASA. I tried to configure PAT as stated in official "Cisco Security Appliance Configuration Guide" through CLI and ASDM.[code]

Nov 18, 2012I have a closed network that is not connnected to the internet, just other sites that we want to communicate with. We have a cisco router connected to the outside interface on an ASA5505 and a cisco router connected to the inside interface on the same ASA5505. I have an inside interface that connects our management LAN, five separate DMZ interfaces with a separate LAN (VLAN) on each DMZ interface and the outside interface that connects to the other sites. Data is not allowed to mingle between the five DMZ's.Â

Alll connections to the other separate nodes are handled with the router on the external interface. IPSEC GRE tunnels have been established between all sites and BGP routing has been verified. Pings are good between inside, dmz and external interfaces and between the DMZ's and the other sites, to include hosts on our local networks and hosts at the remote sites. Inter and intra traffic is enabled.

When a remote site attempts an https connection, the initial ACK handshake makes it through the ASA5505, but the return SYN/ACK is being knocked down and I don't understand why (it is not because of ACL's, they are any any at this point).

Why the return SYN/ACK to the remote site isn't getting through the ASA5505 outbound. Will probably have the same issue with FTP, but right now, just trying to solve one problem at a time.

ASA5505 is in routed mode, not looking to NAT since the IP addresses in the DMZ need to be reached by their real IP address.

When I reload the device it prompts me for the username, then the password and it fails and just asks for the username again. I have even tried to delete the username / password combo but it still prompts me for it. When I do password recovery the confreg is 0x00000001.
