now i have some problem on Cisco Switch 3750 and ASA 5510, i would like to do loandbalancing on Cisco Switch 3750 and Active/Standby on ASA 5510.
which topology that we can use on this diagram, i mean which protocol connect 3750(2unit) to ASA 5510(2unit) and ASA 5510 to 3750, which protocol 3750.
1) 2 x ASA 5520, running 8.2
2) Both ASA are in same outside and inside interface broadcast domains – common Ethernet on interfaces
3) Both ASA are running single context but are active/standby failovers of each other. There are no more ASA’s in the equation. Just these 2. NOTE: this is not a Active/Active failover configuration. This is simply a 1-context active/standby configuration.
4) I want to share VPN load among two devices and retain active/standby failover functionality. Can I use VPN load balancing feature?
Active/Active failover is understood to mean only two ASA running multi-contexts. Context 1 is active on ASA1 Context 2 is active on ASA2. They are sharing failover information. Active/Active does not mean two independently configured ASA devices, which do not share failover communication, but do VPN load balancing. It is clear that this latter scenario will work and that both ASA are active, but they are not in the Active/Active configuration definition. Some people are calling VPN load balancing on two unique ASA’s “active/active”, but it is not
The other confusing thing I have seen is that VPN config guide for VPN load balancing mentions configuring separate IP address pools on the VPN devices, so that clients on ASA1 do not have IP address overlap with clients on ASA2. When you configure ip address pool on active ASA1, this gets replicated to standby ASA2. In other words, you cannot have two unique IP address pools on a ASA Active/Standby cluster. I guess I could draw addresses from external DHCP server, and then do some kind of routing. Perhaps this will work?
I have two ASA 5520 version 8.2 in active Standay Mode. What is a good practice to setup IPS AIM ssm-20 for this setup.
Is IPS should be in Fail-Open or Fail-Close mode ?
Is Mangement ip for both IPS module should be same or diffrent. ?
I recently picked up two ASA5510s (ASA5510-SSL50-K9 & ASA5510-SEC-BUN-K) with intentions of creating an Active/Standy configuration. I'm receiving the error message "Mates' license (2 SSL VPN Peers) is not compatible with my license (50 SSL VPN Peers)", but I was under the impression that I didn't have to buy idential SSL VPN licenses post 8.2 in an Active/Standby configuration. am I missing a step that enables the license transfer(sharing?) feature to work correctly before the failover will build correctly?

I installed the license on the 1st ASA and tried to setup the failover via the ASDM wizard. It always fails, because the 2nd device can't have a 'base' license.So does this mean, i really need another license?

In the current setup, if I unplug the crossover cable both units become active. From what I understood from Cisco documentation, each unit should mark the failover interface as down and there shouldn't be any failover. That's exactly how I want this setup to work.

It was until yesterday that we experienced downtime on the primary ISP that the secondary doesn't do the fail-over. I have to manually configure the device to use the secondary ISP. Currently, I'm looking at maybe this has something to do with the licensing.We are currently using a Base License, should we be upgrading to Security Plus?
I have a 5510 ASA and have been given another an told to make them active and standby. Basically the active one is working great but the second one has no config on it apart from the default one, but is the same firmware level. I guess I need a crossover cable, and what happens with the inside and outside interfaces, would they need to go into a vlan on a switch, one inside vlan where the 2 firewalls inside interface go into and another vlan for the outside? Otherwise if it failsover to the standby ASA the inside and outside interfaces wouldn't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just added a new 5510 failover unit to an existing 5510 and when connecting my new outside interface on an Active/Standby firewall pair, i get errors messages (red x) on each port scan (monitor & syslog) although the error message indicate all ports are good...additionally the firewalls flip between active and standby non stop. I remove the new standby unit outside interface from a shared switch and everything clears up.

We have 2 ASA 5510's setup in an active, standby failover configuration. When the primary fails over to standby, the 3rd party cert does not failover to the standby ASA. The users then receive the CERT missing, invalid message and have to select yes, no to move on. This does not occur when the primary is not in failover mode. It is my understanding that failover fails over certs but in our case it does not apper to be working correctly.

I plan to configure Static route load-balancing, which just assign different administraive distance to static routes.The route with lower distance is preferred. For example, if ISP A is our primary Internet provider the default route may be configured with a distance of 1 (all static routes are assigned this administrative distance) and the default route through ISP B may be configured with a distance of 100. I have a pair of ASA 5520s operating in failover pair as active/standby, having two contexts on them. I am planning to share the load and make it active/active making first context active on the primary unit and second context active on the secondary unit. I am trying to understand what load balancing method is used on a port channel on a Nexus switch . I have a server connected by a VPC to two Nexus switches. The nexus switches are only acting as layer 2 switches. I have a 6509 connected via a upstream link that does all of the routing for my VLANS. If have a server connected to the Nexus switches and it talks to a server on my 6509 what load balancing happens on the Nexus going across VPC 27 which is a layer 2 trunk going up to my 6509. Is it done on layer 2 or layer 3 flows?

Is it possible to use two different load balancing methods at each end of a port-channel between two switches?
We have a Cisco 6509 at one end of the port-channel and a Cisco blade switch 3020 at the other end. Right now, we are using "src-dst-ip" at both end of the port-channel. We would like to change this. That is, we would like the #3020 switch to use "src-dst-ip" while the 6509 switch should use the "src-dst-port".
Why we want to do this, the reason is that we have FWSMs on the 6509. I've read that by configuring "src-dst-port" on the 6509, one can get a better performance of traffic going through the FWSM. However, the issue is that the 3020 switch does not support "src-dst-port".
I've a network with 28 computers and 2 servers. Each server have a double Gbit port configured in Load Balancing & Fail Over.Now, I want to buy two Cisco's Switch SG 200-26 and I would know the best way to connect them and if it's possible to interconnect them with more than one cable to share the trafic.

I faced one problem in our core switch 4507 R . Active sup lost connection and standby came active. We got lot of errors/alerts on console shown below. To reduce costs and administrative overhead we are considering switching to an active-standby environment when we upgrade to LMS 4.2 where the active system would forward traps to both Openview systems.
Any experience with an active-standby Ciscoworks LMS 4.2 environment, specifically; When one system becomes unavailable (due to network, system or application issues) is promoting the standby system to active automatic?How long does it take?
Does the standby system still monitor syslog events and initiate automated actions? Where the active system stops working or hangs and the standby system does not go active?
Are there any reliability issues with database updates or synchronization from the active system to the standby system? Is there a way to test communications from the standby system for new device turn-ups without making it active?
I have two ASA 5510s running in Active/Active mode. I need to make config changes on them. How do I go about it? Do I power off the secondary ASA and make the config changes on the primary and then power on the secondary ASA ? Or this another way to do this?

I was wondering if I can change the mac addresses of the standby unit's interfaces to be exactly the same as the primary unit. I see an active/standby mac address section in ADSM, but I think that is used in the automatic failover function.

the first unit is currently working, and i now wish to configure the second unit as standby. im configuring through the ASDM GUI. Started the HA Wizard, choose Active/Standby configuration and enter the IP of the peer device. checks come back all ok. On the LAN link configuration page (step 3of6) Interface is pre selected as VLAN99, I give it a logical name as iface_fail, and enter 10.0.0.1 as primary address and 10.0.0.2 as standby, subnet as 255.255.255.248, and select port Ethernet0/5
Note that if i click on the buttons next to the IP fields, i get IP addresses of remote hosts!.

AnyConnect Client Profiles
AnyConnect Client Software
If I upload the software manually to the Standby unit I get warning about them not being in sync and on the active unit if I do a 'write standby' it does not copy the profile or software.
