Cisco WAN :: VPN Design Solution In SRP527W U Units
Sep 8, 2011
I have a pair of SRP527W-U units, which each connect to a seperate ISP by ADSL2+I am attempting to use each simulatenously as follows:ISP-A via CiscoA for general traffic, and to run HTTP server X,ISP-B via CiscoB to run HTTP server Y,HTTP servers X and Y are on one machine, but binding to two seperate IP addresses eg x.x.x.3 and x.x.x.4,In a situation like this, I would normally configure CiscoA and CiscoB with x.x.x.1 and x.x.x.2 respectively,CiscoA would run DMZ to x.x.x.3 and CiscoB DMZ to x.x.x.4,The server would use x.x.x.1 as the default route. Then I would set CiscoA to have a policy route catching source address x.x.x.4 and sending it to next-hop/gateway x.x.x..

Installed 4 AP541N units in a client site and they've now come back with reports of issues with the setup. I went out there today to take a look and the issue is primarily that randomly during the day, clients will loose access to DHCP. The client authenticates fine (we see success logs in the Windows 2008 RADIUS event logs) but doesn't manage to get an ip address. To sum up the things with the current setup:
- Running version 2.0 Code on the AP541N's.
- Using Windows 2008 for NPS (RADIUS) and DHCP.
- Cisco Catalyst Switching in the back end.
Things tend to work fine in the morning. It's as the site hits midday that we start seeing issues. In looking at the issue I've come across a number of posts in regards to issues with DHCP and these units. One item that was suggested to switch off Mutlicast / Broadcast limiting on the Advanced Settings. What's weird with this is that if I do disable this option, RADIUS authentication stops working entirely. Switch limiting back on and RADIUS works again. I've confirmed this with Network Monitor running on the RADIUS Server.

A couple of questions about the AP541N:
1. How to get these installed and working properly, especially in a clustered environment? I have read so many comments about slow performance, no performace, bad coverage, etc... They sound like the perfect product for my intended use if they actually work as advertised.
2. what is the installation requirements for multiple units? (What is the minimum/maximum distance between units? How many units are needed for a certain area?

I have a situation where are three units stack of 3750 which i need to upgrade. The flash memory on all the switches are the same which is 57.4 MB. The tar file which I was trying to use was 21 MB.
Now the trouble is that the client wanted to do upgrade without overwriting the existing file. I tried doing automatic upgrade using tar file. It started all OK with downloading the tar file successfully on the master flash. but then it failed thereafter. It did not show any error on my telnet screen however I could see errors (Error code 10054) on the TFTP server regarding the download of the same file on the flash ( i am guessing this was the flash of the next unit in the stack).
" You need to make sure you have sufficient space available in the Flash of the master switch. The master switch should have twice the amount of space of the .tar image file size. This space is needed to store the .tar file as well as to store the content of the .tar file that you extract."
The tar file being 21 MB and looking at the dir below I dont think it is possible use this option since I dont have that much space. I have 34 MB free which according to the doco should be atleast 42 MB.what is the best option I have with me given the constraints that I cannot upgrade the flash at this stage.
1. Could I use the manual upgrade (using bin file) if that can do the needful,
2. Do I simple try automatic upgrade using tar file but with overwriting option so it overwrites the existing image on the flash.Could i take a copy of the existing image on the tftp server using "archive upload-sw" command?
3. Is there a way I could upgrade without transferring image onto the flash and instead using tftp for the stack switch to boot from?

So I have two Seagate BlackArmor 400 NAS units and I want to transfer a lot of files from one to the other.I can access both through a browser GUI and also are the shares I want to transfer between available in my Network Location in Windows 7. I guess that's the CIFS thing there but not sure. However if I just drag and drop or use something like TeraCopy the speed is very bad. It's like the file actually transfers through my PC which is wireless and not getting great speed.
The Seagate blackarmor has a download manager that supports http and ftp and the share is ftp enabled but I have no idea how it's url would be on local network ( there is no DNS setup for the FTP but it's marked as enabled ). transfer the files between the 2 NAS system without having a PC in between and getting good speed.

We had a number of Linksys SRW2048 / SRW2024 switches that had the "bloated capacitor issue" or "bad capacitor issue".These units would basically disconnect/connect their ports.Applications would sometimes crash on workstations. These were all located at different client sites. These were replaced under warranty with the SG300-52 units. When we implemented the SG300-52 units at several sites we noticed the the logs showed disconnect/ connects. We were not seeing apps crash.Support advised they were not aware of any issues. We did a firmware update that was available that made no difference. (1.1.0.73)6 months have now passed.
We noticed at our site very poor throughput one night doing a very heavy file copy data transfer between two computers. It actually ground all other computers on the network to a halt.We inspected the switch. It had "all lights flashing".We thought this strange and shutdown the whole system. Problem still existed.Power cycled the switch. Problem still existed.Noticed their was a new firmware update. (1.1.2.0)We implemented this. The lights on the switch stopped "all lights flashing".Throughput was back to normal. (ie didnt grind all other computers to a halt)
We then had a second site complain of similar issues.Heavy throughput between two computers bought all other computers to a grinding halt.Lights were "all flashing" on switch.Workstation would disconnect/connect in a loop during heavy file copy.We implemented the firmware update thinking this would solve the issue. It now still has the issue of disconnect/connect however and apps sometime crash. We have now replaced the switch with a HP 2510-48G.This is working properly.I have now since been to other sites that also have these SG300 switches and notice the "all flashing lights".

I have three pairs of ASA5510 firewalls, each pair configured as a failover pair. When each pair boots up, even if I boot up the primary first, when they are both up and the primary/active syncs to the secondary/standby, the primary always switches to standby and the secondary thus becomes active.
What would cause this? It happens on all three pairs. Does failover look for the highest ID or IP address to determine which of the pair will be active?

We had several AIR-LAP1131AG-N-K9 devices have a peculiar failure recently.About 10 total units failed in groups of 2-4. Each group was on the same 3560 switch, and they failed at the same time. Now all but one of the units will power and work properly with an inline power injector. But they are either intermittent or not at all when connected to the POE Switch. Even when I use a 3ft patch cable to connect directly to the switch. I have certified the cable and they do the same no matter which port or cable used. 'show inline power' command will show these failed units as 'Iee PD'v

I bought an e4200 about 2 months ago. It worked perfectly for 3 weeks. Then all of the sudden, the 5ghz connection started dropping. Then it's disappeared completely and it would not show up in a network search. Then the 2.4 ghz started going crazy. I reset it completely, that didn't work. I let it sit for half a day, nothing. I sent it back to newegg and got a replacement. When the 2nd one came in, it worked fine until the next day. 5ghz cut out. I called linksys support and they were no luck. I reflashed to 1001 firmware and it mysteriously came back to normal. It was working perfect until today. 3 weeks later. 5ghz went out, and never came back. I reflashed 1001, nothing. Reset, nothing. Flashed the new 1002 firmware, nothing. 2.4ghz still kind of works, but the speed is barely 5mbps. I'm at a freaking loss right now. This was the best performing router I have tried, of all the top models available right now

I'm just curious what others are running. What I really liked about Evolution PBX was how easy it was to setup.I basically need about 25 to 30 extensions, after hours voicemail, and a hunt group.

They are working in Autocad and I need a server on which I have to put windows 2008 server with AD and will have a role as fileserver.I need to know what are suppose to be the minimum hardware requirements for this server. I just installed 2 new units and neither will connect to a new HP gigabit switch - no link light, other devices can connect to the switch OK. Their gigabit ethernet settings are set to auto for duplex and speed. I also tried forcing one of them to full duplex and 1000 Mbps which didn't work either. They're both powered by POE injectors. If I connect them to a 10/100 switch they work fine.

I whish to connect the two switches shown below. The distance between them is 50m (~54 yards), one floor apart, and I would like to link them with the cheapest optical solution possible.I have been given a solution with 19inch patch panel, splitter, pigtail cords, patch cords, SC connectors, i.e., the lot.Not being an expert in networking, I feel that is an overkill solution.

Want some input on what will be the best solution in this scenario.Basicly this is a small ISP network. In each area, behind the C3750s, there are som DSLAMs, access switches and wireless base stations. Some of the clients need L2 connections across the network, as they have several offices. The C3750s are all Cisco WS-C3750G-12S-E.The management networks must be isolated, but be able to reach each other. What do you think would be the best solution realising this network, based on the awailable hardware?

So I've decided to utilize 802.1x on a switch module on a 2901, reasons being for mobility for a laptop and network security.
However, the 802.1x authentication occurs over the VPN Tunnel (over the Internet). What our concern is, what happens if the Internet or Tunnel goes down? I know that 802.1x does not authenticate against the IOS local DB, so what would be another option in case this scenario happened?
There will only be one device authenticating (maybe 2) and they are 2 HP Windows 7 laptops.

I'm currently moving to a 5ghz solution, due to my WGB's de authenticating due to possible interference. However, the area I have to cover is 350ft in length, with centralizing a 1242 with two Cisco Aironet 6-dBi Omnidirectional Antenna (AIR-ANT5160V-R), that leaves around 150 ft each way.
Do you think this is possible? I currently have a 12dbi high gain antenna on 2.4 right now, but I get the following:
Oct 3 18:05:26.359: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 68bc.0cb8.6a09
Oct 3 18:05:26.359: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 0000.bcc7.ef05
Oct 3 18:05:26.359: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 0000.bc58.c1ae
[code]...
I'm going to assume this is interference causing this, since we are in a factory with lots of noise. When the WGB is directly under the antenna/root bridge, there seems to be very little de authenticating.

Currently we have the Synology DS212J system and that backups to the cloud as well. The problems are not being able to access it remotely easily, space, and the cloud integration is too slow and not reliable enough.
So we need a larger network, that is easily accessible remotely and backs up regularly. The main thing that will be taking up a lot of space over time is a lot of artwork files. A lot of these don't require on site network access, so if we had 30% storage local and the rest remote that would be fine, everything needs to be accessible remotely still though.
One thing I was looking into was Amazon storage gateway, it is pricey though so I'm wondering what other options there are. URL
Perhaps a larger NAS with different backup would work? It needs to run more seamless than the cloud is. We used Jungledisk before this which worked great with only a few users but we are now at 10+ users and growing.

I need setting up a wireless home network. I have never done much networking, beyond linking two PCs directly together. This is my first time setting up a network that has multiple PC/devices accessing it.
It's a big house and has two floors. More importantly, it has impossibly thick walls. The walls are between 18 to 24 inches of solid stone (perhaps to repel a tank invasion?). I want to be able to get at least 15-20 Mbps to the furthest reaches of the top floor, in order to stream high quality HD video without a hitch.
I have settled on the ASUS RT-N16 router, unless a better option presents itself. It's one of the more decently priced high-end router available to me. It has decent signal strength (3rd on the MaximumPC router round-up), supports Tomato USB etc. I also intend to use the router to as NAS, plugging in an external HDD to one of the USB ports provided.
Despite its decent wireless strength, I doubt I will get close to the required Wifi throughput. Here is my plan to get around that. Let me know if there are any problems with it or if it can be done better. I intend to run an Ethernet cable from one of the router ports to the top floor, and attach a cheap .n router at the other end, to act as a wireless access point.I am unsure if this will meet all my requirements.
1) Will there be any problems with having one router connect to the other?
2) Will external HDD connected to the RT-N16's USB port, configured as a network share, be accessible as such to any device connecting to the secondary network?
3) What kind of cable will be needed to connect the two routers (provided this configuration is viable)? I remember that cable type used to depend on what's connecting to what, e.g. cross-crimped cable for attaching two computers directly without a hub or switch etc.). I don't know if these concerns are still valid.
4) Will I be able to access the configuration page of the primary router from devices connecting to the secondary router's network? I intent to run some apps on the primary router and would like to be able to check on them from the upper floor as well.
5) Will there be an impact of the speeds? The N16 as Gigabit Ethernet ports, which I doubt the cheap router will have. I don't think that should effect the speeds, but like I said, I have next to no experience in this area.

And if cheap enough the whole site.Ideally I would like a control panel I can use to create new passwords for every customer that wants to connect. I can then set an expiry date on the password after that it deletes the password. An extra would be if the person would have to sign an e-policy before being allowed to browse.

I have a question for Cisco Cat.2960-s Flex Stack switches which are installing on our sties. Two of 2960-s Stack switches as access switch and two of Cisco ME 3600X Series as distribution layer switches are to be installed in our sites. In case of two stack switches, One is will be a Master and the other one will be a member logically, as you know. So, if the master fails, the other one automatically becomes the stack master following a well-documented election process.
Now, it is my question. How long takes to be a stack master from a member switch ? I cant find it on white paper of Cat.2960-s flex stack .
And also, I heard that sometimes a member switches don't election process when the master fails as a result, all stack members become
a panic. Is that really right ? In addition, I heard that the stack switches have many troubleshooting points than stand alone switches.
I really wanna know if the stack switches are good solution for resilience of huge network site. I'm waiting an answer from those who have experience of maintenance or installation.

I want to install a pair of 5508 to manage the whole wireless solution and I have a few questions regarding deployment, Please refer to the topology. The management and ap manager interfaces are conifgured with the same ip address range and thus the same vlan which is 10.160.254.X/24 also all the APs(1,2,3) in that building have the same IP address range for management which will be manually conifgured. The AP's (4 and 5) on the other building have another range of IP address for management and here is the first question. Will the AP's 4 and 5 join the WLC if I manually configure them to point to it? I know I can group interfaces and use them with the same SSID BUT the WLAN vlan in both sides are different and are separated by a router and hence the next question: Can this be done even if they are separated? and if I can, how is this possible, should I configure a dynamic interface in the WLC with an IP of that network even if it doesn't exists on that side? I'm kind of confused with this.

We have a MWR2941 (running 12.4(20)MR) router on site A and one in site B which will be connected over a Service provider L2VPN Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) Network, with 10Mb Bandwidth allocated by the ISP. I have simulated this in the lab by directly connecting the two MWR's back-to-back via the Gig0/0 interface with configurable bandwidth of 10Mb on the Trunk interface.
The E1 TDM pseudowire end to end is working fine, with PTP configured for E1 timing/clocking. In addition I have a 2960-24PC-L switch connected on G0/2 of the MWR (on each end) configured with dot1q trunking. The switch will be used to connect two user groups in two seperate vlans (VlanA and vlanb) and transported across the same 10MB wan Link. Below are the requirements
1) Classify and mark Psuedowire packets E1-DATA coming from a E1/CEM interface and give it priority treatment over the WAN Link with reserved bandwidth of at least 4MB
2) Classify and mark Signalling/Timing PTP packets coming from PTP Vlan and give it strict bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 1MB
3) Classify and mark vlan A traffic coming from the 2960 Switch Trunk port (Connected to G0/2 on MWR) and give it bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 2MB
4) Classify and mark vlan B traffic coming from the 2960 Switch Trunk port (Connected to G0/2 on MWR) and give it bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 2MB
It is important that the E1 Traffic and the Signalling/Timing PTP packets are given priority and strict reservation so that it is not dropped in times of congestion. At the same time Vlan A and Vlan B need bandwidth reservation to give them their guaranteed bandwidth.
Currently I have tried applying policy map to the CEM interface. However, I am having trouble matching anything on the CEM input. Also I am having trouble applying a service-policy outbound on the gig0/0 (WAN Link). Also I can’t apply a service-policy inbound on the Gig0/2 interface with match statement. I have tried configuring input policy map to classify and mark PTP traffic (Vlan 902), but the MWR does not also allow me to attach a service-policy to the vlan interface. how to configure the MWR and have a workable QOS solution.
