Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can RPS2300 Support 2960S

Aug 18, 2012

When using dynamic configuration tools, if I choose 2960 (not 2960s), I have the option to choose RPS2300 as redundant power, but when I choose 2960s, I cannot choose RPS2300. However, in a document describe both 2960 and 2960s, it said that RPS2300 can be used. Does RPS2300 support 2960S?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 3 Units Of Stack Upgraded

Mar 29, 2013

I have a situation where are three units stack of 3750 which i need to upgrade. The flash memory on all the switches are the same which is 57.4 MB. The tar file which I was trying to use was 21 MB.

Now the trouble is that the client wanted to do upgrade without overwriting the existing file.  I tried doing automatic upgrade using tar file. It started all OK with downloading the tar file successfully on the master flash. but then it failed thereafter. It did not show any error on my telnet screen however I could see errors (Error code 10054) on the TFTP server regarding the download of the same file on the flash ( i am guessing this was the flash of the next unit in the stack).

" You need to make sure you have sufficient space available in the Flash  of the master switch. The master switch should have twice the amount of space of the .tar image file size. This space is needed to store the .tar file as well as to store the content of the .tar file that you extract."

The tar file being 21 MB and looking at the dir below I dont think it is possible use this option since I dont have that much space. I have 34 MB free which according to the doco should be atleast 42 MB.what is the best option I have with me given the constraints that I cannot upgrade the flash at this stage.

1. Could I use the manual upgrade (using bin file) if that can do the needful,

2. Do I simple try automatic upgrade using tar file but with overwriting option so it overwrites the existing image on the flash.Could i take a copy of the existing image on the tftp server using "archive upload-sw" command?

3. Is there a way I could upgrade without transferring image onto the flash and instead using tftp for the stack switch to boot from?

Cisco WAN :: VPN Design Solution In SRP527W U Units

Sep 8, 2011

I have a pair of SRP527W-U units, which each connect to a seperate ISP by ADSL2+I am attempting to use each simulatenously as follows:ISP-A via CiscoA for general traffic, and to run HTTP server X,ISP-B via CiscoB to run HTTP server Y,HTTP servers X and Y are on one machine, but binding to two seperate IP addresses eg x.x.x.3 and x.x.x.4,In a situation like this, I would normally configure CiscoA and CiscoB with x.x.x.1 and x.x.x.2 respectively,CiscoA would run DMZ to x.x.x.3 and CiscoB DMZ to x.x.x.4,The server would use x.x.x.1 as the default route. Then I would set CiscoA to have a policy route catching source address x.x.x.4 and sending it to next-hop/gateway x.x.x..

Cisco Wireless :: Installed 4 AP541N Units In A Client Site

Sep 20, 2011

Installed 4 AP541N units in a client site and they've now come back with reports of issues with the setup.  I went out there today to take a look and the issue is primarily that randomly during the day, clients will loose access to DHCP.  The client authenticates fine (we see success logs in the Windows 2008 RADIUS event logs) but doesn't manage to get an ip address. To sum up the things with the current setup:

- Running version 2.0 Code on the AP541N's.
- Using Windows 2008 for NPS (RADIUS) and DHCP.
- Cisco Catalyst Switching in the back end.

Things tend to work fine in the morning.  It's as the site hits midday that we start seeing issues. In looking at the issue I've come across a number of posts in regards to issues with DHCP and these units.  One item that was suggested to switch off Mutlicast / Broadcast limiting on the Advanced Settings.  What's weird with this is that if I do disable this option, RADIUS authentication stops working entirely.  Switch limiting back on and RADIUS works again.  I've confirmed this with Network Monitor running on the RADIUS Server.

2. what is the installation requirements for multiple units?  (What is the minimum/maximum distance between units?  How many units are needed for a certain area?

Transfer Files Between Two Seagate BlackArmor 400 NAS Units On Same Network

Apr 9, 2013

So I have two Seagate BlackArmor 400 NAS units and I want to transfer a lot of files from one to the other.I can access both through a browser GUI and also are the shares I want to transfer between available in my Network Location in Windows 7. I guess that's the CIFS thing there but not sure. However if I just drag and drop or use something like TeraCopy the speed is very bad. It's like the file actually transfers through my PC which is wireless and not getting great speed.

The Seagate blackarmor has a download manager that supports http and ftp and the share is ftp enabled but I have no idea how it's url would be on local network ( there is no DNS setup for the FTP but it's marked as enabled ). transfer the files between the 2 NAS system without having a PC in between and getting good speed.

Cisco Switches :: SG300-52 Units Would Basically Disconnect / Connect Their Ports

Feb 15, 2012

We had a number of Linksys SRW2048 / SRW2024 switches that had the "bloated capacitor issue" or "bad capacitor issue".These units would basically disconnect/connect their ports.Applications would sometimes crash on workstations. These were all located at different client sites. These were replaced under warranty with the SG300-52 units. When we implemented the SG300-52 units at several sites we noticed the the logs showed disconnect/ connects. We were not seeing apps crash.Support advised they were not aware of any issues. We did a firmware update that was available that made no difference. (1.1.0.73)6 months have now passed.

We noticed at our site very poor throughput one night doing a very heavy file copy data transfer between two computers. It actually ground all other computers on the network to a halt.We inspected the switch. It had "all lights flashing".We thought this strange and shutdown the whole system. Problem still existed.Power cycled the switch. Problem still existed.Noticed their was a new firmware update. (1.1.2.0)We implemented this. The lights on the switch stopped "all lights flashing".Throughput was back to normal. (ie didnt grind all other computers to a halt)

We then had a second site complain of similar issues.Heavy throughput between two computers bought all other computers to a grinding halt.Lights were "all flashing" on switch.Workstation would disconnect/connect in a loop during heavy file copy.We implemented the firmware update thinking this would solve the issue. It now still has the issue of disconnect/connect however and apps sometime crash. We have now replaced the switch with a HP 2510-48G.This is working properly.I have now since been to other sites that also have these SG300 switches and notice the "all flashing lights".

When each pair boots up, even if I boot up the primary first, when they are both up and the primary/active syncs to the secondary/standby, the primary always switches to standby and the secondary thus becomes active.

What would cause this?  It happens on all three pairs. Does failover look for the highest ID or IP address to determine which of the pair will be active?

Then it's disappeared completely and it would not show up in a network search. Then the 2.4 ghz started going crazy. I reset it completely, that didn't work. I let it sit for half a day, nothing. I sent it back to newegg and got a replacement. When the 2nd one came in, it worked fine until the next day. 5ghz cut out. I called linksys support and they were no  luck. I reflashed to 1001 firmware and it mysteriously came back to normal. It was working perfect until today. 3 weeks later. 5ghz went out, and never came back. I reflashed 1001, nothing. Reset, nothing. Flashed the new 1002 firmware, nothing. 2.4ghz still kind of works, but the speed is barely 5mbps. I'm at a freaking loss right now. This was the best performing router I have tried, of all the top models available right now

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 / 4900 - Network Down Cause Switching Supervisor With Redundancy

Jan 11, 2012

we've had an issue with our network, we have 2 6509 connected with redundancy, which are connected with 2 x 4900 Switches, from which are connected to a ESX Chassis for visualization, the thing is that the ESX stopped working, and the 4900 switches, and the main core were suffering from overload, they hang on it very well, in order to stop the overload, one of the links to the ESX Chassis were disconnected from one of the 4900 switches. The CPU usage from the 4900 and the core(6509) went down below 40%, and then they started to migrate the virtual servers from the chassis to another 2 chassis that were added right after. They were actually working well, but suddenly the 6509 changed to the other supervisor after everything was OK. We were wondering what could have been the cause of this, maybe the virtual servers migrations, maybe the overload from the ESX ? We also had a few question, is there any need to reload the cores every few months as a planned task ? Because the cores have been up for more than 1 year. And also is there any kind of of tool to monitor the CPU status, or the status overall from the cores or the switches ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7609 For Switching / Based On LAN (VRRP / HSRP) Feature

Oct 18, 2011

I am facing an isssues with 7609 for LAN switching , based on  LAN (VRRP/HSRP) feature.Actually  we are having ES+ cards (on 7609) and we are using multiple groups(say  350 vrrp groups) running on the router . the routers are connected as router 1>>> mux(which is working as switches)>>> router2

my questing are

1.  does their will be "multicast packets" (for VRRP/HSRP group) "from backup  router to Master router", when in stable state( ie when Master and  backup are already chosen) , or the packet from backup to master should  be unicast.I know for sure, the packet from master to back is multicast packets denstination to Multicast IP packet and To MAC address.I am not sure but I think from backup to master it should be multicast

2. what is frequency of these packets( from backup to master)

3.  As i have multiper group on a single interface ( we are using q-in-q),  when the connectivity from router's is broken, then does all the groups  will muticast their active roll in the lan sengment "at once" or it will  be in a groups say 100 groups at once, and after few ms few 100's and  sone ( as is on OSPF or RIP)

we are in between troubleshooting I hope we get the ans( Actul problem we are seeing in the router's that we have 2 ports on active routers and 2 ports on standby router , but we are not seeing muticast on 1 port on standby router where as all other 3 ports are seeing multicast packets) [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2921 Process Of Switching Infrastructure Of Firewalls / VPNs

Jul 4, 2012

We are in the process of switching our infrastructure of our routing/firewalls/vpns over to cisco.  We are switching our first location and one of the issues I'm struggling with is windows authentication pass-through for internally hosted web pages.  Meaning, user inside our network has the 2921 as their default gateway, they try to access a web page that is hosted on the internal network but is secured with windows authentication.  In the past, because they are logged into the domain internally, the website authenticates and loads.  After switching to the Cisco, it asks for a password even though they are logged in.

Because its the web server that actually authenticates I'm not sure why the router isn't allowing that to happen, but I can't think of anything else that could be causing this behavior.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Switching Redundancy For ESXi VMHosts Scenario

May 12, 2013

I have the following devices :

-1 VM Host
-2 Layer 3 switches

I would like to provide full redundancy for all vlans being used by VM Guests on the VM Host as well as the management vlan being used by the VM Host.I have created two LACP etherchannel connections on the VM Host. Each etherchannel from the host consists of  4 ports spanning a single NIC. One etherchannel connection goes to a trunked etherchannel connection on switch 1, and the other etherchannel connection goes to a trunked etherchannel connection on switch 2.Switch 1 and switch 2 have an etherchannel connection between them that carries all of the vlans in the topology.Vlan 2 is the managment vlan. Vlans 3, 4, and 5 are vlans that VM guest systems will be using for normal data traffic.

I intend to use switch 1 as the VRRP active router and spanning-tree root bridge for vlans 2 and 3.I intend to use switch 2 as the VRRP active router and spanning-tree root bridge for vlans 4 and 5.The spanning-tree configuration is using multiple spanning-tree with two instances. Instance 1 has vlans 2 and 3 associated and Instance 2 has vlans 4 and 5 associated. I would like to have this topology be fault tolerant to the point where if one of the etherchannel links between the host and one of the switches goes down, (for example, if switch 1 was powered off) traffic will be automatically redirected through the other functional link. I believe that my VRRP configuration would allow for a fairly quick failover of layer 3 services, but I am not certain that my design will be functional at a layer 2 level.

What I am uncertain about is how spanning-tree will converge. I am assuming that the virtual switch on the VM host will not be forwarding any BPDUs being sent by either switch. Would either of the links connecting to the host be considered a redundant link by either switch?Would the link between switch 2 and the host be inactive for all vlans in MST instance 1 during normal operation?Conversely, would the link between switch 1 and the host be inactive for all vlans in MST instance 2 during normal operation? Would all links remain active for ALL vlans? Would this mean that some traffic may travel through switch 2 to reach switch 1 instead of going directly to switch 1?

Master's priority is 10 and Member's is 15.

My question is that due to misconfigured priorities on Distribution 2 stack switches I am failing with redundancy if ONLY Dist 2 is up and Dist 1 is down.
