Cisco Wireless :: 5508 WLC Design / Interfaces And VLans

Oct 8, 2012

just have  few questions about designing WLC 5508. The  scenario is  that currently one of the client has a firewall Tie ring T1 internet facing and T2 internal which has multiple DMZ connected. T2 firewall has a DMZ switch connected which has a router which connects to MPLS cloud to different site across the country. (around 10 sites) all static routing. Now the client is thinking to deploy wireless at all 10 sites using H-REAP. The issue is that client has only one WLC and they are not willing to buy other as i was thinking to deploy two WLC one for corporate and one for guest users. (one in internal network and on in DMZ). Now my question is as follow.

1- Keeping in mind that there is only one WLC where should i physically put it?
2- How guest users will work ? How the authentication will be done?
3-There are 8 SFP ports in WLC how physical topology will look like?
4-How many V LANs i have to make for wireless users  will that be 10? (1 at each site) ?

My last question is that how these ports work on WLC are they just like switch e.g  one port can be assigned to different v lan....just confuse about interfaces and vlans on WLC (interfaces concept).

Cisco Security :: ASA 5520 And Redundant Interfaces Design

Apr 17, 2011

We have two multilayer switches and only one ASA 5520. I'd like to connect ASA in the way described on the picture: each redundant interface includes two physical ones, which are connected to different switches

My question is what kind of link it is necessary to have between switches to make this idea work? I'd have subinterfaces like Re1.100, Re2.200 and so on for my traffic.

I understand that correct design approach is to have two redundant firewalls with failover but we cannot purchase the second one yet.

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 And Multiple AP-Manager Interfaces?

Jan 3, 2012

I have a 5508-WLC appliance and configured multiple ap-manager interfaces to balance the join request from LAPs and the load.I went to console port from some LAPs and saw that there was that balance among multiple ap manager interfaces (Dynamic AP Management Interfaces). Then we torn down one of the ap manager interfaces and confirmed that the LAPs were moved to next ap manager interface automatically. But the question here is, how can I verify which ap-manager interface was used for a LAP from the WLC via GUI or CLI ??  or how can I see the amount of APs joined using that ap manager interface from WLC ?

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 Management Interfaces For Wlans And Lag

Sep 3, 2012

I didn't design the job, but is pretty straight forward, except the following, the design has a single wlc 5508 with 2 physical connection between two non cisco switches. There are 2 initial WLANs to be created.   I am ok with most of the wlc config execpt the following:

Now from my understanding of everything I have read recently, you can't use LAG on the 2 physical connections if they connect to 2 seperate switches,   unless, although not offically supported, the 2 connections are on either 2 3750s in the same stack or a pair of 6500s running VSS. So I believe that in my case 2 seperate connections from the wlc to 2 non cisco switches will not work with LAG. Is my understanding of this correct?

Is there a way to maintain the 2 physical connections from the wlc to the 2 non cisco switches to maintain redundancy? The wlc will have a management interface obviously, but from what I have read, the 2 WLANs that are going to be created have to have their own interface on the WLC. Which I understand as the managment int and each of the 2 WLANs are on different subnets.

If I don't use a single uplink to one of the non cisco switches (either 1 or 2 physical connections) using LAG, it appears to me that each of the interfaces ( management, wlan1 and wlan2) need to have a physical connection from the WLC to the switch, with each interface mapped to a physical port on the WLC, so correct me please if I am wrong, but this would mean I need 3 physical connections between the wlc and the swtich?

Cisco LAN :: Management Interfaces On 7600 Switches And Its VLANs

Jul 19, 2012

I am using a Catalyst 7600.

I set up a VLAN interface (VLAN 3) with an IP-address and I can connect to it using telnet and log in to the switch as admin.I call this my management interface.

How come I manage to log into the management interface when the native VLAN is default 1? I thought the native VLAN determines which VLAN I need to log into to access the switch?

Can I make management interfaces of all the 48 ports if I want?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5520 / 3560 - VLANs And Sub Interfaces

Aug 20, 2012

ASA's G0/2 interface is connected to G0/1 interface of a 3560G switch in DMZ, below is the config and diagram

Switch Config
int g0/1
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
int vlan 1
ip add 192.168.0.100 255.255.255.0

We are running out of IPs in 192.168.0.X network and planning on creating sub interfaces on the ASA and trunk it to the switch so that we can have multiple V LANs in DMZ. Tried the below config in LAB but that didn't work, can you have a look at it and let me know if I miss anything. No change on the switch config since G0/1 is already a trunk port.

ASA Config
interface GigabitEthernet0/2
description Trunk to DMZ networks
no nameif dmz
[code]...

If I change the V LAN on the switch from 1 to a different V LAN, say V LAN 50 for example, and configure the ASA accordingly its working fine.

Cisco Firewall :: Configure ASA To Send All Traffic From (3) VLans To Interfaces That Connects To 2960?

Apr 18, 2013

I have a an ASA 5520 connected to a Layer 3 (3750) switch (Inside) and a connection to a 2960 switch (Outside) to get to the internet. . I have created vlan interfaces on the 3750 switch and enabled ip routing on the switch to enable the vlans to communicate with each other.

Vlan Interfaces on the switch:
Vlan 100 172.17.1
Vlan 200 172.18.1
Vlan 300 192.168.3.1

I want the devices connected to the 3 vlans to be able to pass through the firewall and get out to the internet.I have connected the ASA to the 3750 by routed interfaces (10.10.10.1) --------- (10.10.10.2) and they are able to ping each other.I have also put a default route on the 3750 sending all traffic from the switch to the ASA inside interface (10.10.10.1)The issue that i am having is that the ASA also connects to a 2960 which has a connection to the Internet, and they are handing off an ethernet connection from the 2960 that sits in VLAN 55 (Vlan 55 is the Internet accessible vlan). How do I configure my ASA to send all traffic from my (3) vlans to the interfaces that connects to the 2960 switch?

Cisco :: WLC 5508 Interfaces Backup Port

Apr 25, 2012

On a WLC 5508 it lists an option to specify a "Backup Port" under the physical information section on an interface. We have two central switched SSID's which are connected to an internal firewall. We are looking at installing a backup/standby firewall and running a virtual firewall between them. Each SSID would have an additional patch from the WLC to the standby firewall.

Does the backup interface port function on the WLC allow traffic to be failed over from a centrally switched SSID via backup interfaces to an alternative device? If this does work will only physical link failure to the primary firewall cause the backup port to be activated or is there configuration parameters which can be specified for load, packet loss or latency which can be used as criteria to cause the backup port to be utilized?

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 Multiple Interfaces For Multiple SSIDs

May 13, 2013

I am trying to build a new network from scratch, I have the WLC 5508 w/ Aironet 3600e APs connected to my Netgear Smart Switches and a Linksys RV082 router that I'm using as my DHCP server with several VLANs for several stuff on my Switches.

I have 2 questions:

1. Can I have 5 Interfaces configured on 5 different VLANs, each SSID on each a different Port:

Port 1: Controller management only=> 192.168.x.x /24
Port 2: SSID 1: WiFi Internal=> 172.16.x.x/12 (Radius Auth with no sharing)
Port 3: SSID 2: WiFi Internal w/ sharing=> 192.168.x.x/24 (Radius Auth with sharing)
Port 4 :SSID 3: WiFi Guest=> 10.0.x.x/8 (Web Auth)
Port 5: SSID 4: WiFi IT=> 192.168.x.x/24 ( Radius or certificate Auth with access to the controller management interface)

2. How can I use the Controller as the DHCP server for all the WiFi traffic, and how should that be configured to work with my other DHCP server?

Cisco Wireless :: 4404 Wireless Design - WLC Configuration

Mar 16, 2009

Soon to be working on a design for a Wireless installation across one of our buildings. The wireless survery has been completed, and we'll be installing 175 APs, across the 3 floors of the building.

With regards to the back-end WLC setup, I have a few queries around the WLC configuration. We're looking at implementing the 4400 series of devices, and due to us having nearly 200 APs, we'll need at least 2 x 4404 or 4 x 4402 - I'm assuming its simpler to have fewer devices to make management simpler. Also, looking at the Cisco reference material, they recommend that a 4404 can support up to 100 APs, with regards configuring the ports on the box, would I need to configure LAG across the WLC

ports in order for it to accommodate all of the Access Points. If we were to go with a scenario of using 2 x 4404 devices, would we be in a position whereby if we lost a Controller, we'd lose

all of the Access Points associated with that Controller? In order for us to have full resiliency, we'd need an additional 4404 controller for the APs to failover on too? From a licensing perspective, we'll be purchasing a licence to cover 200 APs.

Cisco VPN :: 2900 - How To Get VPN Design

Nov 24, 2011

Is GET VPN be a better  choice than DMVPN in order to support VoIP, Video over IP, Advanced QoS  and Multicast? I think it should be the better choice based on what is described as the benefits and how it works but I just want  an expert opinion.

Can separate groups be created using the same key serves? I need to protect two functionally separate WAN segments that terminate on the same DC core routers. However I want the separate WAN segments to have different encryption policies. Is this possible?

It is stated in the deployment guide for GET VPN that "Network Address  Translation (NAT) is not supported by GETVPN. NAT must be performed  before encryption or after decryption when GET is used." However the NAT  capability is required on all the routers.

The 2900 series routers has embedded hardware encryption but according to the router perfomance guide, with a mix of traffic such as NAT, QoS and IPSec VPN they are unable to provide 100 mbps of throughput. Does the new ISM VPN modules would allow the routers to achieve 100 mbps of throughput with the services mentioned above?

Cisco LAN :: 3560 Network Design

The USA offices will be very small and only require a couple of computers, hence the small IP allocation. I have marked the IP addresses of the links on the diagram, I intend to use 3560 switches for all the switches marked and all links will be layer 3 to route multiple VLANs from each site to each site (where permitted). question is this: How do I achieve this in the switches? I'm thinking that OSPF is the way forward, is this right? I want to do as little configuration on the switches as possible to allow for dynamic updates of the network (i.e. I don't want to add static routes for everything).

Cisco WAN :: WAN Design Using Juniper SRX 2800

Local LAN is connected with cisco 2800 router and SRX 210 Firewall, currently all LAN segment will go to my Data Center via ISP A and all internet traffic from LAN segment will go to internet via SRX firewall, there is no relation/connection between cisco router and SRX firewall. I have separate AS no. s for both the ISP

I am having attached scenario. based on current one I would like to do following.

1. I need to use PBR at LAN Switch ( its L3 Switch) such that in normal scenario - local VLAN traffic is equally distributed on both ISP.
2. dedicated internet traffic will flow through ISP B only and if WAN link of ISP B goes down, the internet traffic will pass through ISP A.

( in normal scenario, ISP A will utilized 100 % for LAN traffic to reach it to DC but once ISP B link goes down, the b/w of ISP A will be divided to route 50% traffic for LAN segment to DC and rest 50% traffic of LAN segment to internet)

Site-to-site VPN are for trusted Office and remote VPN clients are only for our staff use.

From the diagram ASA5520 is configured as followed

outside interface is set to security 0 and connected to boder router to internet, inside interface is set to security 100 which is connected to a linux firewall which then goes to our internal lan.DMZ interface is set to security 50 which is connected to DMZ segment ,I decided to use the 4th interface for all VPNs which is set to security 100, and for this 4th interface i have created two sub interfaces vlan 400 (for site-tosite VPN) and vlan 500 (for remote access VPN). I did this because i have to use two separate linux firewall box. Linux firewall box for Site to Site VPN is configured with NAT but Linux firewall box for remote access VPN users are configured without NAT. I also want to know do i need to create a CA server or can i use pre-shared key with XAuth for remote access VPN users?
