Actually we have a 4402 controller with 1120 APs both of which are marked as EoL products, we want to jump over the new 2600 APs and 5508 Controller for increase signal coverage but we have the following deals:Last firmware for 4402 controller is 7.0.Firmware needed for 5508 to support 2600 APs is 7.3.Is it possible to configure mobility between 4402 and 5508 even with different firmware branch?
View 3 RepliesI have 2 WLAN controllers, a 4400 series and 5500 series controller. The 4400 series has 100 seat limit on it, with 74 Access Points currently connected. The 5500 series has a 250 max, but we bought it with only 50 licenses, and it is max'd out at 50.The 5500 controller is the controller that has a DNS entry so that the Access Points will know to find that controller as they're being added. BUT, because we've reached our limit of 50 licenses, I'd like to be able to set the 4400 series controller to be the controller that new Access Points try to connect to. By going back to the 4400 as the controller that new Access Points connect to buys me time to plan for more licenses on next years budget for the 5500 controller.
View 29 Replies View Relatedin one of the sites, the client has an exisiting 4402 controller which he moved to the DMZ in order to set it as an anchor & he purchased two new 5508 controllers to control the corporate APs. I configured all the parameters needed for the guest anchoring & then I tested the connection but there was an issue. (all the controllers are running the same firmware version)after testing the setup, the guest users could get an IP from the internal DHCP of the anchor controller (in DMZ), but then they cannot reach the internet or anything outside the anchor controller.Cisco confirmed that the 4400 is fully compatible with the 5500 to work in an anchor-foreign secnario as long as they are running the same firmware version. yet, when I temporarily used one of the 5500 controller in the DMZ as an anchor & I applied the exact same configurations on it as the 4400, it worked perfectly without any issues.
note: on the anchor controller (4400), the management & AP-manager interfaces reside on the same subnet & the wireless guest SSID is also mapped to the management interface. (may be this setup is causing the issue) but on the 5500 it is working just fine?
I have a cisco wireless environment running NCS with a wism, two 4400's, and now two 5500's. The bulk of our AP's are 1131's, however we are now ordering and using 1142's and 3602's. We just added the 5500 controllers in preperation for a large deployment of 1142's. What I would like to do is have the system setup so that the the 1142's will default to the 5500 controllers. Since the wism and 4400 wont support the 3602's its not really an issue for them. I'm trying to find the best way to accomplish this. I've already heard one suggestion of manually going through and setting all the AP's to a primary and secondary controller but I was hoping to find a way to have the system do this for me.

A new requirement has come up and we need to provide connectivity between two buildings (which are within 1 km) using wireless. This link should be able to give >=100Mbps.
As we already have 3500/1130 APs, can a wireless bridge be established using them which can also give >=100Mbps? Can this be done using a WLC based solution? What I mean is: Do I need to have a standalone AP solution or can it be done while both the APs register to WLC? What are the AP models/antennas that can meet my requirement?
I have a existing wireless setup of 4400 WLC with some AP's connected remotely,now i am migrating the whole setup to the new WLC 5500. All the AP has been registered to the new WLC 5500 except the remote location AP's.As there was no option of giving IP address in GUI of the controller in 4400 WLC, i have changed the controller name and restarted the AP, but even though it is going back to the old controller.

Is there a document somewhere that shows a way to migrate the old settings to a new 5508 that we are purchasing? By the time the 5508 arrives I will have a very small window to setup the unit before a new wing goes live. I need the new unit as we have reached our limit of licensed AP's on the old 4404. It seems like everyone keeps talking about an easy way but no one says how to do it.

I have an issue where I have an AP in one room and another in another.When I walk from one room to the other, I lose signal but manages to see the SSID and join.But, I cannot seem to surf the Internet, I have to manually disconnect and reconnect. So far access is working fine using WPA, 802.1x and the client configured to use windows logon credentials..But it doesn't seem to automatically transfer between access points.
I have 3 Cisco 1242 WAPs that I have deployed at a site that has NO RADIUS/AAA devices. I have given all of them a different channel (1,6,11), but the same SSID and crypto (WPA2-PSK). The issue is when a machine boots up it associates with the closest/strongest AP, but as the device "roams" it does not which to a different AP. It stays associated with the original AP until that signal is gone. Then it quickly associates with the closest AP with no problem.
How do I get the device to associate with the strongest WAP? I have research "fast roaming and WDS" but it seems like you need EAP/LEAP and they do NOT have that at all.
have configured Cisco IPPhone 7925G with EAP-TLS setting. (With manufacture installed and Userinstalled certificate). My issue is while roaming from 1 AccessPoint to another AccessPoint the call getting droped. I need to restart the IPPhone to reauthentiate again. In ACS am agging the authentication time-out error. (I had changed the time out value for EAP-TLS to 20 in WLC as per recommendation.)
If am using static web key there is no issue in roaming.
What is the reommended setting inorder for the EAP-TLS to work properly.
I am configuring two 2504 controllers, which I ordered together, however they run different software versions and I don't have a contract/ login to download wlan controller software from the Cisco website. The one with the newest version runs 7.2.103.0 while the other one runs 7.0.220.0 I want to run them together in the same subnet and use them for redundancy (10 AP's will connect).
Is there a way I can download the software from the controller, just like I am able to do with an ASA firewall? Then I can upload it to the controller with the older software version.
I am setting up two 5508 controllers, one in HA mode, and one the primary for the remote sites in question. I plan to have these units service wireless for MPLS conected regional sites (each with their own local subnet). I was planning on using the cabled hosts network in each site for the wifi addressing and was thinking a different addressing for Guest Access, is this common? I'm obviously concerned with guest access clients but don't know enough how their trafiic is segregated from normal wifi traffic.
Also, when I stand up the controllers the management interface and ap-manager won't be in the same network as where the hosts or LWAP's will reside (routing access will exist though).
We have 2 Cisco 5508 WLCs, each wtih 50 licenses. What I would like to do is split the 50 odd APs between the 2 controllers load balancing the traffic. If a controller goes down or there is a break in the path all APs would failover to their configured secondary controller. So far so good.
However there seems to be no way to 'replicate' the configurations between controllers unless I setup HA , but as I understand it HA is Active /Passive, so essentially, unless you get a failover situaltion, completely 'redundant'.
Is there a way or either replicating between controllers automatically with out HA, or is there a way of making HA Active / Active?

Currently we have a few sites that have 8-9 4404 100AP controllers and I'm looking to condense these down to either 3 5508-500 or 5 5508-250 depending on cost. I'm wondering what a good port to AP ratio is for controllers with licenses that can handle over 100 AP's. I know the general rule of thumb is 25 AP's per port, but that seems to me to be 4400 way of thinking. I'm trying to also reduce the controllers overall footprint, i.e. ports on the uplink switch, power consumption, rack space etc.

Both sites utilize the same DNS structure and would like to use the DNS entry CISCO- CAPWAP- CONTROLLER entry for bringing new AP onto the controllers at their sites, how would we go about configuring this?
If we have 2 Cisco 2504 series wlcs and use multicast features in both and both are primary and secondary for LAPs. what about of we use multicast ip address let's say 255.239.1.60 can we use the same ip address for the secondary controller too or we should use any other ip ?
