I'm not a computer whiz and need exact instructions for how to update the firmware on netgear n750 wndr4000 wireless router. I called netgear and they wouldn't I don't want to spend another 100+ on a router.
View 3 Repliesso I've recently reinstalled my OS (windows 7 32bit) because I got a BSOD for some uknown reason and it kept booting to NTFS file checker, anyway this is irrelevant.since the reinstall, ive been getting pretty annoying latency spikes. The only game I've got installed ATM is counterstrike: source so no I haven't tried out any other games.My connection consists of a netgear wireless G router routing a 10mb virgin media connection to my belkin wireless G USB adapter.my drivers are all up to date, including the adapter. I cannot update my firmware because the netgear router is owned by VM and they don't allow firmware updates from netgear (I've tried and failed to update) for some unknown reason.
In games, sometimes it runs smoothly, and other times I get really bad latency spikes. It will all be running fine at about 30ping but then it will lag and shoot up to 300/350. it will then keep doing this intermittently, rendering the online game unplayable as I'm being owned by AWPers everywhere. It's definitely me as other people in the server also on VM are experiencing no lag. On top of this, I sometimes find my browser will run extremely slow on occasions, as well as downloads becoming slow on some occasions.
My laptop is unable to connect to our router unless I am right next to it. I am in a split level house. When I go downstairs in our family room the laptop will not connect or is very slow loading. Once I move the laptop next to the router everything is fine.
The lap top is an HP Pavilion with Windows 7. The router is netgear n750 WNDR4000. :Laptop was connected to internet this afternoon now this evening I have problems.
I recently bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router. The wired network is working fine, but the wireless network is giving me problems I don't understand.
I am using the following equipment to connect to the wireless network:
- Samsung Galaxy S2 mobilefoon (supports N speeds)
- Asus laptop (supports G speeds)
With both devices I want to connect to the 2.4 Ghz (b/g/n) wireless network with the following settings:
- Channel: auto
- Speed: 145 Mps max.
- Security: WPA2-PSK [AES]
- Preamble modus: long
- Fragmentation length: 2346
- CTS/RTS: 2347
Latest firmware has been installed.
Here is what happens:
- When resetting the router to factory settings I can connect with both devices mentioned (security is not enabled)
- When setting the WPA2 security key for the first time, I can connect with both devices.
- When I try to connect with either device for the second time I cannot connect, messages (from mobile phone):
The nework SSID is visible Trying to connect Connection broken Network remembered
And then a loop is present that keeps trying to connect, but almost never succeeds. Maybe once in a hundred attempts. When a connection is made, it works fine for as long as the connections stays present. After the connection is broken, it all starts over again. The 5 Ghz network is behaving exactly the same (only tested with my mobile phone, laptop doesn't support 5Ghz network).
I have lowered the speeds and tried different channels, but behavior stays the same.
My friend has had constant issues with his wireless network using his dated Linksys router. So he finally decided to upgrade to the Netgear N750. It's a dual band router that simultaneously broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. He setup the 2.4 band for the laptops and mobile devices to access, and the 5 band just for gaming on his xbox 360 Slim. He immediately ran into a problem. The 360 slim's built-in wireless card only picks up 2.4 GHz frequencies. To remedy this, he purchased Microsoft's xbox 360 wireless-N adapter as it can pick up 5 GHz frequencies. However, there was no change after plugging the adapter into the 360 slim. His HP laptop can see the 5 GHz network just fine, so we know it's being broadcast. Could it be the xbox is out of range of the 5 GHz band? Is the adapter not functioning properly with the 360 slim?

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I recently moved a little bit away from where I was. My new area only has one internet provider available called "Hot Spot". We got the 10 down 5 up plan and I get what I paid for in that respect. My issue is that it won't even stay up for longer then 20 minutes. At first I was using the Netgear N750 WNDR4000 router, but I switched over to my ASUS RT-N56U router thinking it might fix the problem. Same thing happening with this ASUS, but when it goes out and I try to load a web page I get the error "you have set the wrong dynamic or static IP address for your RT-N56U." The router setting is set on automatic IP so I'm not sure if that's the problem. I called the ISP and told them I have Dish for TV and they said that is most likely the problem as it can often conflict with the IP or something like that. So I called Dish and they sent me this "Hopper Internet Connector" which supposedly fixes this issue because it directly connects it to the router instead of wirelessly. That still didn't fix the problem. I have tried turning wireless off completely and it still happens. I have reset the router to factory settings probably 4 times. I really don't know what else to do..

I've also tryed saving the firmware file in it's own folder still no luck try updating on my xp desktop & my laptop with vista with same message? is it a problem with linksys with the file on there website maybe?

View 1 Replies View Relatedan EA6500 router that has intermmitent connectivity issues. Went into the configuration page and saw he was a couple versions behind on firmware. Used the online update option, firmware downloaded and then indicated that router would reboot. Did not power off router or leave the configuration web page. Watched light go out on router and come back on, but the spinning wait icon never went away after 5 minutes. Powered off and on and was back at the same point with the old firmware still. Downloaded the firmware to local drive and applied from local file, but same results. Waited 10 minutes this time. Surely it doesn't take more than 10 minutes for the router to reboot itself from a firmware flash?
Gave up on trying to update firmware and configured wifi settings. Left friend's house and then got a message about 15 minutes later that the router had locked up again. If he pulls power for 2 minutes it will then work for another short period of time.
Is there anything that can be done to try and restore normal operation to this particular router, or are these all signs of a hardware failure and the unit should just be replaced?
Just got a WRT120N and went online to get the most recent firmware and when i performed the upgrade it's gets about 3/4 of the way completed before it just stalls and start screen blinking like it's caught up or something. I using a modem, wrt120n router connection with a Brand New Sony Vaio laptop. I was able to upgrade my old WRT54G V5 router but can't seem to get the new router to update.

On the mac it looks like a normal zip file but when I click to "unzip" it it just creates another zip file. When I download it on a pc it doesn't even look like a zip it's just a blank white square. Both computers have always downloaded zips fine, so I'm thinking it maybe is a problem with the file?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased 3 E4200v2 routers. As I am prepping them to install, I am attempting to update the firmware from 2.0.26 -> 2.0.37. I downloaded the zip file from the Cisco support site and when unzipped the file is named FW_E4200_2.0.37.131047.SSA. When I attempt to do a manual update from the Admin page, I imediately get an image file is incorrect error.
I've downloaded the file a total of three times on 2 separate networks and have tried three different browsers to attempt the update, all with the same error. The support chat sessions have proven worthless, they seem very scripted and the last one kept trying to sell me a support contract...
I want to stay with the Classic firmware, even though it is lacking current bug fixes. Does anyone have a "good" copy of the 131047 firmware? It appears to me that the one on the Cisco site is broken.
I have been having numerous issues with my router dropping both my wired and wireless connection multiple times an hour. I checked the Cisco website for the firmware update and it says the download is no longer available. I am on firmware 1.02.06. Does someone have a newer version? I'm hoping a firmware update will resolve this issue.

I went to the download section of the linksys website, and it does show that there is an update there, but I have read in alot of places that the update downloads are in a zip file. WEll it definately wasnt in a zip file, and all it did was download a strange file and there was nothing to install or anything. I have my old Dell Desktop connected (hardwired) into the router, and it works when I take the wireless router out of the loop. How do I update the firmware on the router if I can't connect wirelessly or hardwire anymore? I want to go to version 1 to see if that will solve the original issue.
For the original issue of cutting out and reconnecting constantly, would version 1 work or something else? It isn't my cable modem, as internet has always worked fine connecting desktop or laptop directly.
I currently have a WRT54GS ver 1.0 running firmware version v2.07.1Ran through the whole installation procress as described in the firmware upgrade instructions pdf and it said Successful and hit continue. Hit continue, held the reset button down for 10 seconds then powered off the router for 30 seconds and plugged it back in.My firmware version in the router is still saying v2.07.1, I would assume it should say 4.21.4?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the firmware from 2.0.2.1 to 2.0.3.3 and when the router rebooted the interface was missing many items. On the basic setup page the boxes were missing to set the local ip address, subnet mask and anything below that. On the Wireless Security page the security mode box was half it's size and did not have any options in it. The wireless isolation wpa algorithm, preshared key and key renewal boxes were missing too. I rebooted the router and still got the same thing. I was able to get into administration and reset to the factory default. Once the router rebooted I was unable to get into the interface at all. It wouldn't come up at all. The power and light were blinking but I was unable to connect to it. I tried to connect with 192.168.1.245 and the one I had set manually but no luck with either. I was able send back the router for an exchange with Cisco. I received the new one today. It started up and everything worked great. I decided to try the firmware upgrade again. I went from the firmware version that was on there(I didn't right down) to 2.0.2.1 and the upgrade worked as the other 3 I have. I than tried the 2.0.3.3 upgrade and I got the same thing as the other router I sent back. I have 3 other routers in place that I will not be upgrading at this point. I should not have tried the upgrade again on the one today but being a bank the examiners like everything up to date and it's part of the monthly check.
