Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 - How To Increase Signal Strength

Nov 29, 2010

We have a new e1000 router that was having trouble reaching the TV for Netflix movie streaming. Too many walls and too much distance. A simple solution was to direct the signals from the router by placing aluminum foil behind the router so all the signal was going towards the TV rather than in an 360 degree circle. Now the streaming works great! After the movie is done I remove the foil and everything looks just like it should.

How To Increase Wifi Signal Strength

Jun 3, 2012

I have computers scattered across our home, and in many areas it is not feasible to run ethernet cable. At one location (less than 30 feet away) but through multiple walls, I can barely connect to any POS (I have two). I added a stand alone antenna extension with long antennas on both the router and the WiFi card on the PC, however, this made zero improvement. What should I be looking to purchase to increase the signal strength? I've already tried different routers.

D-link Dir-825 :: Increase Wifi Signal Strength With Software?

Apr 5, 2013

Even though I put high gain antennas on my routers which extended the range of good signal immensely, I wish to try to get even better signal strength also.   When using manual configuration mode on the router, I have set the WiFi power level to 100% (default level).  Is there a way to increase that level beyond 100% and "overdrive" the signal?  I tried to input a number >100% and that was not accepted.

I know this is possible if I go to dd-wrt, and possibly with open-wrt, which I prefer not to do for various reasons, not the least of which is that I have both a Rev. A1 and a Rev. B1 router (Rev. A1 is not supposed to support dd-wrt).  I also know that increasing the power will make the router run hotter.  I am willing to risk it as I monitor the temperature regularly.

Has anyone ever tried to do this or, have the people who want this just gone to dd-wrt?  From the dd-wrt forum it appears that the DIR-825 router in Rev. B1 is not very user friendly to dd-wrt.  After 3 years the code is still flaky.  I would prefer not to use it, if possible.

WiFi To IPad - Increase The Signal Strength For A Longer Distance?

Jun 12, 2011

I use a Linksys WRT54GR router. I recently bought an iPad, and I generally use it in a room that is on the other side of the house and through many walls. When it works, it works nice. But recently, my signal has been weak, and is often dropped. Pages load slowly, or not at all after getting a could not connect to server or whatever message. However, this isnt a huge problem for my laptops when used in this room. I dont believe it is the iPad that is faulty because my iTouch also experiences difficulty sometimes. I need a way to increase the signal strength for a longer distance. I looked at a repeater, but im not quite sure what it is and how to set one up, or where to buy one.

Belkin N150 Wifi Dongle Signal Strength

Jan 8, 2012

My enquiry is about a brand new Belkin N150 F6D4050ed that i bought last week.I had to buy it because my previous Wifi Dongle just stopped working all together, it was an excellent dongle, gave me full signal strength and never cut out. Then i bought the Belkin.. I installed the drivers, plugged it in, since then, i have had 2-3 bars constantly, mostly 2 bars, The router is only 8-10 Feet away from me in the next room which is seperated by a very thin wall, It cuts off all together if a body stands in front of it, such as my brother coming in to chat. I have tried to move it around the room with no joy, All laptops and other wireless devices in the house connect to the router fine (Including downstairs in the garden even),Im a gamer, so i need a stable strong connection and its impossible to stay in games with this dongle.

Wireless Low Connectivity / Signal Strength

May 16, 2011

I have three desktops and one lap. I have TWC RCA modem and cisco linksys router and two usb adapters for wireless connection. situation is this: the modem and router are at one end of the house and one of the pc's is located at the other end. that one gets low signal strength only one or two bars and the internet works slowly to a point it feels like i'm on dial up. I've had people tell me to upgrade the router from wrt45g to n which I did to an e1000, but I still have the same issue. also was told to move the modem and router to the center of the house. but twc says that would not correct the issue.

Something about dividing the mpbs and the farther the pc the lower the signal. so, guess my question would be 1. does that sound correct to you. would it be better to move the modem and router? would it be better to have the one in question wired in? I did try an extender by netgear, which gave more bars/signal strength but but then would not connect to the internet. but I did that before I got newer linksys router. not sure if maybe I should try the extender again, but then the geek squad, when they came an set up the new router, said that it would probably do the same thing.

Wireless Router - Low Signal Strength Outside Home

May 12, 2012

My router has wireless capability and the signal inside my home is pretty strong so I have no compaints there. The problem comes in when I use my computer which is located in a shed outside. I get a signal maybe 35% of the time, and even then it's weak. I want to use an access point to allow the computer in the shed to aquire internet access. Do I need to hardwire the access point or can I do it wirelessly? Would a repeater be more effective and which config would be best in that case?

Cisco Wireless :: WAP 200 - Poor Signal Strength

Nov 21, 2010

I have purchased two WAP200 units to act as access point and repeater. AP and repeater functionality works fine.

The issue I am having is extremely poor signal from both units. Even when very close to the WAP200, I get poor signal quality. The range before loosing connection is only a few feet.

I'm using the antennas that came with the box and have tried multiple placements both in my house and in other locations. I have also tried changing several of the configurations without any effect on the signal strength. Older D-link and Linksys routers provide good reception to most of my house from the same location.

It not only get's weak signal strength from my router, but every surrounding network, and sometimes can't detect any networks for a few minutes. I've used several other wi-fi devices in the same spot where this system is sitting and they all get excellent signal strength.I've already tried changing channels on my router and re-installing drivers. Neither has any effect. The card in question is a TP-Link TL-WN951N.

Netflix Streaming - Low Wireless Router Signal Strength?

Mar 31, 2012

I have a wireless network in my home, mainly for internet access via any of the 3 or 4 machines we may be using. Normally, there's not a problem with normal surfing, email checking, youtube, etc.My wireless router is a Linksys WRT300N, and the wireless adapter card in my desktop is a D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter. In my previous home, the router was in the very same room as my desktop, and had no problems to speak of with this setup streaming Netflix. Now, however, I'm set up in an older home, and the router is removed from my desktop by a few walls and tight rooms. I've noticed that my network status icon on the bottom right of my desktop seems to always show "Signal Strength: Very Low".I like to use my desktop sometimes to stream Netflix. My Netflix streaming sometimes goes OK, but typically it just freezes and shows the Loading bar, and sometimes doesn't really start back. It is so bad sometimes, that I am not willing to wait it out, because I know from this experience that even if it starts back up, it will just freeze again. The video is not downloading and caching fast enough.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 Acceptable Signal Strength?

Feb 19, 2012

I find myself having to venture out into the realm of wireless (I'm more of a UC/DC engineer...) and i've got a problem i'm trying to track down.  Installed two WLC 5508s, WCS, 3502i APs (123 of them...) in a 4-floor high school.  What i'm finding is lousy throughput from a lab of PCs with little USB b/g/n adapters.  I took my Macbook in and ran iStumbler to get an idea of the SNR but honestly, i'm not sure what i'm looking for.

For the particular room/SSID/band that i was looking at, i found that in the 2.4 range, i was getting 53% signal strength and about 16% noise.  Is that a good level?  In WCS, i can see close to a dozen APs in relation to the AP in question, so i'm wondering if the SNR is too high..

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WET610N Signal Strength

Jan 27, 2011

I have a WET610N on my network with very little signal strength. My set up is:

Router E3000
48 ' (48 feet) to
WET610N

The WET610N is on 5Ghz N, and is the only device at Ghz, and indeed the only wireless device during testing.

The use for the adaptor is to connect an Xbox 360 as a MCE for Video streaming. It is unusable, with unwatchable lags and intermittent failures. The 'Network Performance Monitor" doesn't read in mb/s, but essentially I get about 1 or 2 'bars', well under the acceptable for Standard def reading.

zInterestingly, when I bring the device within 3 feet of the router, I get great speeds (30 Mb/s down),  but the bit rate reading in the status screen reads lower than the below reading.

Below is at the 45 foot mark->

Link Status:Connected  MAC Address:68:7F:74xxxx:31  Network Name (SSID):sx  BSSID:98:FC:11:xxxx9:94  Radio Band:5 GHz  Channel Width:20 MHz  Wide Channel:N/A  Standard Channel:36  Bit Rate:43.3Mbps  Signal:10%  Security:WPA2 Personal

Linksys Wireless Router :: Set Up Two E4200 To Improve Signal Strength?

Sep 24, 2012

Currently I'm using one e4200 (v1) as my main router in the house. The wireless coverage downstairs is perfect, but upstairs the signal is weak. To improve this I thought about adding the WAP610N as an access point to my network. But this device gets quite some negative reviews ... Thus I was thinking why not add another e4200 (v2) to my network? The price difference is not that big, especially compared to other simultaneous dual band access points. So my question is, would following scenario work?

- first e4200, connected to my ISP, acting as a router, using both the 2.4 as 5 ghz band (basically my current situation)

- second e4200, connected (via UTP cable) to the first e4200, in bridge mode

- second e4200 also using both 2.4 and 5 ghz band, using the same SSID, security etc but a different channel

So when moving a laptop for example from downstairs to upstairs, automatically the router/access point with the strongest signal would be used.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 - How To Improve Wi-Fi Signal Strength

Nov 26, 2010

I have configured a new LinkSys e3000 as as wireless router in our house.I have left the configuration as default (only secured it and turned on the DHCP server).I have only turned on the 2,4 GHz network ( because the 5GH had an even shorter range).Everything works and all my devices can connect to the router and access the internet. However i find the signal strenght of the router to be very poor.Already in the next room it drops to 60%. And in some rooms on the 1st floor the signal drops completly. This happens not even 20m away from the router in an ordinary "family house".Is there a setting somewhere which could increase the signal strength ?I noticed that the router has no antenna, can one be bought and attached so the signal increases ?The firmware version is 1.0.02 and i found a newer on your web 1.0.03. How to improve the signal strength?

Unable To Connect To Wireless Network - Full Signal Strength Displayed

Mar 15, 2013

I have already seen many threads with the same problem but none of the solutions worked for me.I am unable to connect to my router (Beetel 450TC1) via wireless network. Even if I enter an incorrect security key, no authentication error is displayed. The wired connection works flawlessly and I can access router admin panel through wired connection. Things I have tried:

1) Called up the ISP customer care. They upgraded the router firmware, did a hard reset and did all settings remotely. This did not fix the problem and the executive reported that I have a faulty hardware. I think my hardware is fine because the same problem exists with other smartphone devices and I can connect to college WiFi easily.

2) Changed wireless security authentication and SSID.

3) Tried a manual hard reset and firmware downgrade (same problem persists with downgraded firmware) and again upgrade.

4) Tried different operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 7, Ubuntu 12.04). Same problem exists with each of them.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cisco E4200 - How To Improve Signal Strength

Oct 29, 2012

I have a two story house with a basement.  Right now I have a Cisco Linksys E4200 router on the second floor in one of the bedrooms.  I have a DLink GamerLouge 4500 in the basement.  Both systems have the same SSID and are running on different channels.  Computers connect to the appropriate one automatically.  At least assuming that's what's happening.I am getting limited connectivity on the first floor in the kitchen and family room.  Dining room, right by the second floor stairs is fine.  All the bathrooms are dead zones.  Note I have thick travertine tiles on the walls in the bathrooms so may inhibit signals.  Trying to figure out the optimal solution for getting the house setup so everywhere has at least decent signals. I have alot of iPad and laptop devices floating around the house so wireless is key.  Note I have wired plugs with Cat5e all over the house to a central hub in the basement which is where the DLink router sits.  Thoughts on how to improve my signal strength?  Especially in the farther reaching bedrooms and the first floor
