View 11 Replies View RelatedI used to have a DLINK router which covered my whole house with its Wifi signal. After upgrading to the SRP541W router, only the very close vicinity of the router has any acceptable level of signal to use devices. I seriously need to improve WIFI range to accomodate my small business. I asked the Live chat technician and the answer was "This device does not support external antennae" and then silence. Okay it is not supported but what I am looking for is a solution, not a dead end.
For example, is there a cisco repeater/extender that I could deploy that works with the SRP541W router? Any experience adding one long cable and putting one antenna at a different location of the house?
How to successfully increas the signal range of the WRT310n? I live in a huge old place and the signal drops to one bar (dial-up speed) about 40 feet across the building. However, at the room before that (maybe 30 feet) my Apple Mac book gets great signal and it's no problem. I need to connect the Mac and 2 PC laptops wirelessly.I'm not sure whether to try a signal booster, set up another access point (or how to do that anyway), or what? Running a cable is unfortunately not an option.I also have a WRT300n (which was replaced this weekend with the 310n). Not sure which one really is better, but the 300n router's range didn't even make it as far as the 310n does. (There was weak signal, no active bars.) Someone suggested adding a more powerful antenna to that router instead?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy router has wireless capability and the signal inside my home is pretty strong so I have no compaints there. The problem comes in when I use my computer which is located in a shed outside. I get a signal maybe 35% of the time, and even then it's weak. I want to use an access point to allow the computer in the shed to aquire internet access. Do I need to hardwire the access point or can I do it wirelessly? Would a repeater be more effective and which config would be best in that case?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless network in my home, mainly for internet access via any of the 3 or 4 machines we may be using. Normally, there's not a problem with normal surfing, email checking, youtube, etc.My wireless router is a Linksys WRT300N, and the wireless adapter card in my desktop is a D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter. In my previous home, the router was in the very same room as my desktop, and had no problems to speak of with this setup streaming Netflix. Now, however, I'm set up in an older home, and the router is removed from my desktop by a few walls and tight rooms. I've noticed that my network status icon on the bottom right of my desktop seems to always show "Signal Strength: Very Low".I like to use my desktop sometimes to stream Netflix. My Netflix streaming sometimes goes OK, but typically it just freezes and shows the Loading bar, and sometimes doesn't really start back. It is so bad sometimes, that I am not willing to wait it out, because I know from this experience that even if it starts back up, it will just freeze again. The video is not downloading and caching fast enough.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wireless router has been spotty since my cable company installed a new modem for cable internet. I have powercycled several times, downloaded new firmware, rebooted and am still having problems. Lately when I do finally get on the internet with a wireless device, the signal strength is very low. It is low on my iphone, on my Mac laptop and also on my Samsung Bluray player. Lately a window keeps popping up when I am trying to watch netflix that states my band width is too low, even though it has been working fine for 2 months. Is my router outdated?

View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrently I'm using one e4200 (v1) as my main router in the house. The wireless coverage downstairs is perfect, but upstairs the signal is weak. To improve this I thought about adding the WAP610N as an access point to my network. But this device gets quite some negative reviews ... Thus I was thinking why not add another e4200 (v2) to my network? The price difference is not that big, especially compared to other simultaneous dual band access points. So my question is, would following scenario work?
- first e4200, connected to my ISP, acting as a router, using both the 2.4 as 5 ghz band (basically my current situation)
- second e4200, connected (via UTP cable) to the first e4200, in bridge mode
- second e4200 also using both 2.4 and 5 ghz band, using the same SSID, security etc but a different channel
So when moving a laptop for example from downstairs to upstairs, automatically the router/access point with the strongest signal would be used.
We have a new e1000 router that was having trouble reaching the TV for Netflix movie streaming. Too many walls and too much distance. A simple solution was to direct the signals from the router by placing aluminum foil behind the router so all the signal was going towards the TV rather than in an 360 degree circle. Now the streaming works great! After the movie is done I remove the foil and everything looks just like it should.

And in some rooms on the 1st floor the signal drops completly. This happens not even 20m away from the router in an ordinary "family house".Is there a setting somewhere which could increase the signal strength ?I noticed that the router has no antenna, can one be bought and attached so the signal increases ?The firmware version is 1.0.02 and i found a newer on your web 1.0.03. I have a two story house with a basement. Right now I have a Cisco Linksys E4200 router on the second floor in one of the bedrooms. I have a DLink GamerLouge 4500 in the basement. Both systems have the same SSID and are running on different channels. Computers connect to the appropriate one automatically. At least assuming that's what's happening.I am getting limited connectivity on the first floor in the kitchen and family room. Dining room, right by the second floor stairs is fine. All the bathrooms are dead zones. Note I have thick travertine tiles on the walls in the bathrooms so may inhibit signals. Trying to figure out the optimal solution for getting the house setup so everywhere has at least decent signals. I have alot of iPad and laptop devices floating around the house so wireless is key. Note I have wired plugs with Cat5e all over the house to a central hub in the basement which is where the DLink router sits. Thoughts on how to improve my signal strength? Especially in the farther reaching bedrooms and the first floor

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT54gh, and the signal strength is extremely poor. Full strength at about 15 centimeters, Then drops to 50% at 50 centimeters. By 1.5 meters, the signal is extremely weak or not visible. Have updated to the latest firmware, factory reset and power cycled. There are no other wireless networks or devices that would provide interference Have experimented with channels, thresholds, transmit type, encrypted/open, intervals etc..No luck. Due to signal dropping off so quickly it seems like a transmit strength issue rather than an issue that can be solved in the menu. I'm wondering if there's a way I can console log-in to the Linux kernel and check the transmit strength and perhaps bump it up by a few DB? It's out of warranty so a solution involving opening the case is also acceptable.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.
The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.
Have two WRT54G Wireless Routers.
-One WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v1.028
-One WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v2.x
With the WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v1.028.When I ran the android app WiFi Analyzer, I get mixed results. On my Samsung Galaxy S3, I saw my signal on Channel 2, and others around me (two on Channel 6 and two on Channel 11).On my ASUS Transformer Prime TFT201 I see the same signals, but my router signal bounces continously between the baseline (-100dBm?) and about -35dBm.
Plugged in the WRT54G ver. 2, Firmware Version v2.x Channel 8.Hooked it up and got good steady signal strength. It Had 'WPA - Shared Key' but did not have the 'WPA - Personal' that was on the ver. 6. So, I had to go and screw things up. I've upgraded this to Firmware Version: v4.21.5 and guess what? I now have 'WPA - Personal'. I also have a signal is bouncing on BOTH units.
On my ASUS, I can see both routers. The ver. 2 AND the ver. 6 are bouncing between baseline and -35dBm, in unison. Apprently something in the ASUS does not like the later Firmwares. On my Samsung I can see the two signals - the ver. 2 on Channel 8 is stable as a rock and the ver. 6 on Channel 2 is also bouncing, but at a much slower rate! Running Speedtest.net a PC hardwired to the ver. 2 - I get 5.34 Mb/s Download and 0.47 Mb/s upload (yeah, my Internet sucks!) Running Speedtest.net through the ASUS/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 2.43 Mb/s Down and 0.65 Mb/s Up.Running Speedtest.net through the Samsung/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 5.07 Mb/s Down and 1.07 Mb/s Up.
Just got an E2500 and installed it with no problems and it was working correctly for 1-2 days. This evening the signal strength of my SSID dropped to LOW and a new SSID now shows up with full signal strength. It s not an SSID from any of my neighbors and from checking several forums it appears this is known problem.
