Internet DSL Keeps Disconnecting / Possible DNS Server Error
Feb 27, 2011
A few days Ago we finally got our 24Mbps DSL package and so far it keeps disconnecting every 30 mins (sometimes more, sometimes less). The thing is I'm living in some village in Ukraine so there's only one ISP I can choose from and the phone lines here are a piece of crap (I can hear the static, but I can't do anything about it.) Calling the phone company is out of the question as no one here would even think about improving our phone lines (trust me, this place is FAIL). Also, My ISP is bsing me into believing that I'll get 24mbits on some crappy copper wired phone line that makes noise every time you try to use the phone. I'm using a 5 port switch to connect 2 computers to the internet through some so-so modem. The ethernet cables are not cat5 quality either and the phone cable is just some average RJ11 type deal. Now I know the true meaning behind "up to 24mbps downstream and 3 mbps upstream!" which is actually means "10.5mbps down and 0.3mbps up (at max)". Yes, I live more than 2km from the providers. [code]

So the problem is this: I have a Samsung TV (LE32B650) with the most recent firmware installed, connected via wire with the WRT160NL.The router also has a 320 GB disk plugged in with a bunch of movies. When I use the uPnP media server with Windows 7 PCs (wirelessly) or even a Samsung smartfone it all works very well. However the TV has an issue disconnecting from the media server in just moments from turning the DLNA function.Well to be more precise the TV says the the media served got disconnected. The router has the latest firmware, I have tried with HDDs ane thumbdrives (with just 1 AVI to make sure there is no conflict of unsupported file formats), I exchanged the wire (TV<->router), added guest user to access the partition with all scanned folders.

I am having problems with Twonky disconnecting from my PS3 while watching movies from the attached USB drive...
How to manually restart the media server other than turning off the drive or resetting the router? Or perhaps a solution to this in settings...

internet won't stay connected for more than 2-4 minutes at a time. I recently got a new modem, as recently as two days ago. It connects fine but within 2-4 minutes it disconnects then reconnects itself within 20 seconds. It's a plusnet modem and in the corner of my screen I have a little computer screen with 3 signals coming out if it which flash. It's called Wireless Network Connection Status. Beside it are 4 bars not too dissimilar to mobile signal. They too are green and when I click into it it's called Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility.

Haven't been here in a while after going to grad school. My internet keeps on getting disconnected, and I keep having to unplug the power cord, wait 10 seconds, and then it works again. But this has been happening quite frequently. Is it because I need a new router? It is Linksys SRX 200 router it says.

i recently bought a wireless USB adapter so i can connect to my router as my older one broke. The one i had before worked fine and was easy able to connect to my router with high connection, but with this new adapter i can still connect but have pretty low signal like 2 or 3 bars and whenever i try downloading anything or try watching films or just surfing the web for like 10 minutes it says limited access with a yellow exclamation mark on the signal bar and the only way to reconnect to the internet is to first disconnect and reconnect every time.

For the past couple of weeks my internet has suddenly disconnecting on almost a daily basis.Windows troubleshooting the problem always fixes it in seconds and I usually have no further problems during the day but it's getting annoying and I'd really like to know what the issue is and how to fix it.It happened again just now and Windows Diagnostics found the following problem: "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.I'm running Windows 7 and using an ethernet cable, no wireless connection.

About 2 weeks ago my router began acting up. It disconnects when I'm just browsing, downloading or streaming a video. I tried everything! I changed the channel on the router, resetted the router numerous times. I connected the ethernet cable from my pc directly to the modem to see if it was in fact my router and not the modem. My pc never disconnected once while connected to the modem. In order for me to download something or stream a video I have to connect my pc to the modem and it is becoming a pain!

Happens every few hours, but is fixed by reconnecting my router. Although this is inconvenient because I run an IRC chat and a small web server. I'm not sure if those would cause such a problem, but I hope not

I am connected to the router with a cable , a router which my internet provider supplied me with. The problem used to happen before , occasionally , but the disconnecting has drastically increased lately , and these days it has become unbearable , it occurs at least once every hour , especially when i'm playing a game online or so.The disconnects last very shortly , or until i reset my router or disable/enable my network in network connections.I have 2 more laptops in the house , connected via wireless , and they've had no issues with this. The first time these problems occurred i was able to fix it just by doing the windows troubleshoot, which lead to an error saying "Default gateway is not available".I found a lot of threads on the internet regarding this issue , and tried all of them but none seemed to work.
I tried downloading newest drivers from my motherboard site first , then from Realtek's site, then deleting old drivers via DriverSweeper aswell , just in case , but it did nothing.I tried changing the Speed & Duplex to 100mbp/s Full Duplex , which has solved the issue for some , but again it did nothing.I called my internet provider , was told to use static IP address and type it in manually and if it didn't work to try plugging the cable into another slot on the router ,And after all those things , i feel like the problems is even bigger now. I now no longer get the "Default gateway is not available" error , and the only solution is to reset router or disable/enable network , which leads to the network being "unidentified" for some time before it connects.

Got a problem with my connection, it keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes or so, usually at the same time every day. Lasts for a few seconds but does not show as an interruption to the line's uptime, nor is there a warning sign in the system tray (like what usually happens when there's a disconnection).-ISP says they do not see any problems on their end-Updated router firemware, no dice-Router is a Netcomm NB6PLUS4W modem/router-Tried with both wired and wireless connections, same problem

My bb connection is very unstable and disconnects randomly whenever it feels like it. I have a master socket with one extention (slave I believe its called) however there is nothing plugged into the extention at all and my telephone and bb are connected to the master with a filter. After reading a few threads I have tried some tips which were to disconnect the bell wire (number 3), replace the faceplate, and filter with new ones and try another router none of which have made a difference. I have now removed the faceplate and plugged directly into the test socket. This definitely works and keeps the connection alive for longer sometimes a whole day but then it goes again but definately no where near as often, (she says as the Internet disconnects!)We have several things connected to to router which are up to 3 laptops using windows 7 and vista, up to 3 phones and 2 xboxes however these are never all connected at once but when the connection goes it disconnects all that are connected. I have also been with 3 different providers and this has been the same with all of them. The house is only 9 years old so I don't believe it can be that the wiring is too old but maybe that there is a dodgy connection somewhere?

I am using wifi on my computer to connect to the internet and every other computer in the house uses same thing and works fine. But my computer keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting to internet for some reason. It just started a couple days ago. Sometimes it goes a couple minutes before disconnecting and sometimes it disconnects after a couple hours but it keeps doing it and is really annoying.

My internet will disconnect and reconnect randomly, nothing works every time to fix it, the time online and offline is random, sometimes it works when i turn on the computer, sometimes it doesn't , sometimes it stops after a while, sometimes restarting works.
I am running Windows XP on a desktop computer with the most current service pack installed and I have a linksys wireless router installed in the computer. I know the router isn't linksys, I think it may be netgear. I have no way of connecting wired to the router. My bf's laptop running windows 7 is used wirelessly in the same room as my desktop and rarely has any problems connecting. I should mention that this problem also occurred on this computer while living in other locations and using different routers, but it was never this sporadic. It was best when used in conjunction with the linksys WRT54G router.
I realized today looking at the status of the wireless network connection that the network name and signal strength will disappear and reappear randomly, all while still saying I am connected and that I have sent and received packets, and sometimes randomly changing connection speed as well. Sometimes an alert bubble will pop up saying that my internet connection is connected and that I have excellent signal strength, with varying speeds, but the internet still doesn't work. Or sometimes it does work. How to access it.

So my router from CenturyLink died about a week ago. So I got a new router from CenturyLink, and ever since then my internet keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting. I have tried to put an ethernet cable in the back of my computer but my ethernet port doesn't work, so I use a wireless adapter. It is a D-Link DWA-552 Xtreme Desktop Adapter IEEE 802.11g, IEEE802.11n Draft 2.0 32-bit PCI Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2. My connection is excellent. Speed is 130 mbps.

I recently had hinges problems with my laptop and that hasn't been fixed yet. idk if its irrelevant or not. but anyway the Internet on my laptop keeps disconnecting and reconnecting and then staying disconnected for a while and then reconnects with limited activity. then i disconnect from it and reconnect and it takes over. 20mins to really connect again. i don't know why this problem is only with my laptop so it isn't the router. the other laptop and the desktop work just fine.

I've had this laptop for nearly a year and a half. I've never had a problem with it but recently, in the last month internet keeps disconnecting every couple of minutes!! Though the times do vary on other days. I'm a student and I live with other students. It seems that this doesn't happen to anyone else in the house but my internet works fine when I go home. I can't work out if it's a problem with the internet here or my laptop.

So I'm having issues with connecting to the internet. I'm connected to the network but cannot browse the internet or play online games. Currently I'm on my housemates laptop. None of my house mates are having issues. My computer is a laptop and connects to the internet wirelessly. I don't have a cable to try connecting straight to the router unfortunately.
Last night my internet provider (Time Warner) did an update that caused all their networks to change their names/passwords. My house mate got the new name and password and when I used it it worked fine for several hours. While in the middle of a game, my internet and my housemates internet stopped working for no reason. Theirs are fine now, mine is still having issues.
I have reset the router, restarted my computer, and looked into some DNS stuff. I've done the commands ipconfig /flushdns along with ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. I also changed my preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 for my Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4) and that did not work. (edit: also tried 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220. No luck there either)
I've tried turning off my firewalls and connecting but that doesn't work.
